The cost of a taxi ride from the airport to the city centre depends on what type of taxi you choose, as you'll find both official and unofficial taxis at the airport. The official cabs, called Llama Taxis, have counters in the baggage claim area where you can book a cab and pay your fixed fare. A trip from the airport to the city centre will cost S/ 35 (C$ 14). The unofficial taxis can be found outside the airport. You can flag one down, but fares must be negotiated with the driver as these cabs are not metred. Taxi drivers typically start by requesting S/ 30 (C$ 12), but you shouldn't have to pay more than S/ 15 (C$ 6).
There are no public buses that travel from the airport to the city centre, but you can walk to the gas station outside the terminal to catch one of the local public buses, known as combis. Although this is a cheaper option than taking a taxi, with a one-way ticket costing S/ 0.60 (C$ 0.24), this will not be the most comfortable alternative for passengers travelling with a lot of luggage.
There are no on-site car rental companies available at the airport. Most travellers heading to Cusco will book either a guided tour or a car with a driver in order to get around the city or to get to other destinations in Peru. However, if you want to drive yourself around, you can rent a car at Europcar, Sixt or Hertz, all found in the city centre.
There are a number of things to consider when visiting Machu Picchu. If you want to travel to Machu Picchu straight from the Cusco airport, please note that there is no direct transportation from the airport to Machu Picchu. Travellers should be sure to check the schedule of the site, and account for at least 2h of travel time from the airport to the train station closest to the site. Visits to Machu Picchu are limited to two different time slots, one from 6:00 am to 12:00 pm and the other from 12:00 pm to 5:30 pm. Cons: "Terrible airline and airport system... the boarding system is a disaster... after waiting in line for so long they send you to different counters to pay for bags... on top of that they didn’t check in one of the 6 in my group by the attendant’s mistake and they closed the flight in us...there is a bussing system that “takes you to the plane” and when we finally made it to our gate the bus made their last of the 2 trips to the plane. So we lost our flight to Cusco and ruined our entire first day of touring in Cusco..... your system or multiple check in/ cashier/customer service counters is a disaster and it makes zero sense. My knees were already tightly pressed to the seat in front of me when I sat down, and as soon as the man in front of me put his chair back, it folded my legs down and to the side in an exceptionally painful way. I got to sit like that for hours. The man next to me was also tall, so he got to experience the same kind of pain when the woman in front of him put her chair back. I am going to skip that leg on the way back and just fly out of Lima."

With the 7 hour delay, I'd have to go directly from the airport, after a horrible night, to my board meeting. It was a no go. I declined to travel and expect a full refund"

I really would like my money back but they wouldn’t even give me anything because it’s not ‘there fault’."

The front desk person got upset out of nowhere just because he briefly had to wait for us to remove the shoes from the bag. He then purposely issued us tickets for three that were all spread away from each other when we were originally suppose to sit together. The flight was delayed for 4 and a half hours. Every 30 mins they would add another 30 mins to the delay. Made it nearly impossible to know when we were going to board. The flight attendant on the plane wouldn't allow me to get up to use the restroom until everyone was on board. I have bladder issues, so that was not ok. The flight attendants were rude as well. No one seemed to enjoy their job on that flight. The overall quality of the plane was pretty bad. They advertise having the newest planes, but that was by far the oldest and most run down plane that I've been on. No leg room at all, and the seats do not recline at all. Made it a very tight squeeze. Never flying with VIVA AEROBÚS ever again."
