An overall very good experience, after bad first iPros:I was very pleased with the vehicle, the value for money, the facilities, and the ease and efficiency of the collection and drop off, and the staff were very friendly and helpful.Cons:My only complaint was that the customer services agent, Sharon, who processed the pre-booked order initially on arrival at the Alamo desk at San Diego, was firstly flippant, sassy, and unfriendly, and then proceeded to use fear based tactics to upsell add-ons for legal cover and insurance. I appreciate that Alamo is a business with a responsbility to return profits to shareholders, but the approach she took was not effective and has somewhat put myself and my companion off using Alamo in the future. Relative to experiences with competitors, such as Enterprise, this left a bad first impression and could be handled better.Reviewed 26 Mar. 2017

overall good experiencePros:Check in and getting the car all told (shuttle to Alamo, check in, escalator, car, booth, etc.) was pretty fast - about half hour total. Taking car back and getting the ok to head back to shuttle took about 45 seconds. The car was a good sized, the back up camera isn't as nice as my Nissan's, but it worked, and I drove ALL OVER in 3 days, and didn't even get down to half tank - however had plenty of power to merge onto California freeways, go up hills to Balboa park, etc. Perky yet efficient. My favorite part? Ron at the check out booth/gate. What a superb gentleman and so helpful.Cons:I was expecting a Toyota and got a Chrysler...not a fan at all. it was keyless entry and keyless ignition, with a knob shifter - which was set too close to the knob for the temperature controls - I often reached for the wrong one because really you got a 50/50 shot at that point. The car can be locked from the outside with the key fob while the very quiet engine is still running...come to your own conclusions there. the back up camera isn't as nice as my Nissan back home, but it was better than nothing. I opted for Alamo to fill my tank when I got back, so didn't deal with any gas stations. Use siri to get you back to the return if in San Diego - freeway not clearly marked to get back to rentals and I along with a line circled the airport first. Don't try to wing-it.Reviewed 24 May 2016

Pros:Drop off was greatCons:Have the selected class or better available. I don’t consider an infinity to be the same class as an EscaladeReviewed 21 Sep. 2020

Cons:Would not rent as one way even though it was preplanned that way. Will not do business with them again after leaving my wife stranded 2300 miles from home.Reviewed 21 Jul. 2020

Pros:The Enterprise staff was very helpful since there was no one in the Alamo booth at that hour to pick up the vehicle. I was upgraded to Premium Premium due to no Suburban available to pick up. I enjoyed driving the Cadillac Esclade.Cons:Nothing.Reviewed 2 Sep. 2020

Pros:Alamo was great. But it was my second choice, after my first choice -- some no name rental agency called Mex, selected initially via Kayak, which routed me through Rentcars.com -- was a friggin disaster. I landed at 6 pm, the time of my reservation, only to discover that the rental office was already closed. There was no one to help me, no number to call, no customer service from anyone in that chain, including Kayak. It was a friday evening at 6. I tried 4 other rental agencies; they were either out of cars or were asking insane amounts of $$ for them. I had to get a ride from the airport, and come back the next morning to rent from Alamo. (Which was great.)Cons:Alamo was great. Avoid Mex Rent a Car and Rentcars.com at all costs. No one picks up the phone at Mex and you can't leave a voicemail. The number for Rentcars doesn't work, and the email responses are all in Portuguese. I'm not kidding. Why Kayak continues to use these vendors is a mystery to me. Makes me reconsider my choice in travel apps.Reviewed 13 Oct. 2020

Racist Employee at Alamo San Diego spoiled the expCons:The attendant at the Alamo Car Rental San Diego Airport Office was extremely rude to me due to my Indian Passport and he had the nerve to suggest that lot of Alamo cars are getting crossed into Mexico by Non Americans. He wanted to see my Indian Passport and my Return Ticket when infact I had already confirmed with an Alamo Landline Representative that Passport and Return Ticket is not required.Eventually took Fox Rental right across the street.Very satisfied experience there with minimum hassle and better rates.Reviewed 31 Oct. 2015

A few mix ups on their part but they triedCons:The first car we rented had a bad tire sound, we had to bring the car back and lose a few hours from our vacation. THEN they told us they were out of the car type I ordered. Then, when they told us to exchange our car which we did, they CLOSED the rental which should have been good for four more days. I didn't find this out until a day later when we complained that this car now wouldn't let us turn up the volume (some parental restriction blocked us from turning up the volume past 30%). They told us to exchange that car, when I went to do that I had top talk to three different people, they realized they didn't even have me in the car I had (they didn't have record of it because they CLOSED the rental days earlier). This took hours to figure out. They finally got that straightened out and gave us a discount on the additional days I was adding, and she allowed us to return the car without filling up the gas which was nice. Would I rent again with Alamo? Maybe.Reviewed 2 Mar. 2017
