Won't go to St Paul Hertz againPros:The car ran fine, got decent mileage per gallon, despite its size. The rate I was quoted through Kayak was a good rate.Cons:Dishonest service at Hertz's St Paul, MN Union Station. 1. When I showed up at 4:30 to see if the car was available, I was knew it might not be ready until 6:00 as that was the time on the reservation. It was ready and waiting and I was charged for 2 extra hours (2/3 the rate for a whole day), for taking it early. Okay, that would have been acceptable ONLY IF the "Manager Associate" had informed me I was going to be charged for it and how much; instead, he hid that charge by not mentioning it and lumping it in with the prepaid fuel cost. I saw that right after I left and called to talk about it. 2. The person who answered my call said the "Manager Associate" was out and no one knew when he'd be back, but she would get him the message and have him "look into it". Never heard back. 3. I declined the extra charge for insurance because I had my own, and "Manager Associate" accepted, but then assured me that whatever I had wouldn't cover the whole cost of the car. Didn't ask what kind of coverage I had, just tried for the scare. 4. As often happens, the class of vehicle I reserved was not available. When I found out that I was not getting the class of vehicle that I requested was as the "Manager Associate" walked me through the parking lot to the vehicle. Not when I checked in, not as we were completing the paperwork. He didn't seem distracted or busy or rushed, he seemed to have calculated when he could deliver that news with the least chance of hearing a complaint. I get it, man, you want to get out of the office at the end of the day, but do your job. Recognize that your job isn't a hustle, too. Be up-front.Reviewed 18 May 2018

Great CarPros:Car was awesome, the pick up and dropoff couldn't have been easier.Cons:Not terribly upfront about insurance. Ridiculous price at the desk for insurance without time to verify my own insurance coverage...ended up paying way more than I needed to. Whether this is a kayak issue or a hertz issue, not sure, but this needs to be more clear when booking. Mediocre at bestPros:Ability to choose my own car. Worked with me on a future discount for the issues we had.Cons:Arrived at Hertz counter at airport to find out my reservation was for the downtown location after I specified the airport when I reserved. Paid an additional $120 for airport pickup. Once on the rod the vehicle had a lot of wind noise and shaking when braking. Upon closer look the vehicle had been in an accident. Very unhappy to think that Hertz would allow a vehicle that has been wrecked to be rented without my consent, especially for the high price.Reviewed 6 Aug. 2018

Cons:The car was dirty, the pick up was not the airport it was st Paul in a small remote lightly staffed location and no shuttle service. Due to the prepay option there was no way to change or modify the drop off to be at the airports despite calls to Hertz. The staff was friendly but could not help.Reviewed 31 Mar. 2019

Terrible car rental companyCons:We reserved our car for 8 days and paid for it all online, and upon arrival the person behind the counter told us to keep our reservation for the number of days we paid for would be an additional $60. When we refused, we were told we would have to bring the car back a day early, which created huge problems getting a ride back to the airport. When we returned the car, we were told we still owed an additional $40. We will absolutely never use Hertz again as a car rental company, and will make sure nobody we know has the displeasure of using them either.Reviewed 21 Sep. 2017

Pros:Staff was fine, as was the pick-up. Drop-off was poor simply because we had been told that a staff member would be there on Saturday afternoon (June 8) to receive the car and issue the final bill/receipt. Unfortunately the office as closed. We did not know where to park the car, etc.Cons:We should have been informed that the office would be closed, and we should have been instructed on exactly how to proceed in order to complete the business transaction.Reviewed 9 Jun. 2019

Pros:Staff at the airport was nice. But on the time of booking they booked us at a location far away from the airport and the front desk service person could not find our reservation. Also we had to extend the rental later and the lady scheduling the change request talked fast and was very hard to hear.Cons:Sending the car through a maintenance inspection and putting and air freshener in the car.
