Flew Business Class that gave me privileges at the Maple Leaf Lounge which I was looking forward to as this was the Saturday before Thanksgiving, but LGA was quiet. Regardless, the Maple Leaf Lounge was really tranquil and relaxing, sto=cked with a large breakfast selection that had 2 omelettes, sauteed onions and peppers to throw on them, really good bacon, delicious fingerling potatoes, oatmeal with a big variety of garnishes, fresh fruit and cheese, bagels, muffins and other continental items. There was a good coffee machine with terrific espresso (EVEN DECAF ESPRESSO), cans and pitchers of juice, soda amchine and beer taps. By the time I left they had switched the fruit out for salad in advance of lunch and it look like a thorough selection with chicken. The view of the gates and fray below added tot he cocoon I felt I was in. I would pay to do it again and it definitely added to it. For the two flights I was on (to YYZ connecting to YQB) I was served a nice cheese and fruit plate even though they were about an hour. Impressively, on te shorter YYZ to YQB leg I was served warm nuts as well as a hot towel. I only get that when flying long flights on a lie flat seat on the American legacy carriers. Service was warm, welcoming and just made me feel wonderful. I would consider Air Canada for any destination if price were competitive based on the great service.
We did not like it much. There were so many delays. From getting there to check in, to the delay on flights to get home. It felt so disorganized and it gave us a lot of anxiety and stress. We followed the instructions that were given to us but no one seemed to know what they were doing. We missed our first flight due to the poor management of the airline.
Luggage was lost and Montreal airport is my least favorite for navigating .
My advice to anyone using Air Canada to not risk your vacation with them. Against my better judgement, we opted for 3 flights to go from Charlotte NC to Quebec. CLT to Toronto, then to Montreal, then to Quebec. Thought since we left at 6 AM on the originating flight with plenty of layover time, on the same airline (Air Canada) all would work out. NO SUCH LUCK! Try to get an originating direct flight to your destination. Learn from our mistake.
Rouge is the budget division of Air Canada and it shows. Minimum seat pitch so an uncomfortable flight for anyone over 5 feet tall and 140 pounds. One pack of pretzels and a can of soda. Entertainment was on your own device.
The flight was 1.5 hours delayed. No food nor entertainment in this flight
Our luggage was not transferred to final destination. There was plenty of time for the transfer. Just a mess up on AC.
FORCED to check our carry on luggage at the gate and then had to wait HOURS to claim it at the baggage claim. Sent family member who came to collect us home and then had to pay for a taxi, all this while in a wheelchair pushed by my husband because AC was short on staff. Was told we had to wait for drink service when we ordered a beer to have with our lunch. Then an hour later, drinks were limited and in the smallest glass ever. Inexcusable and unconsciousable. Will never travel with Rouge again.
The Air Canada Rouge flight is great value with amazing route and punctuality. The ground staffs in YVR and YQB are also extremely pleasant, helpful, and competent! I’m impressed by the value offered by this line. The plane is older, but it has the free movie streaming similar with many of the US airlines equip their domestic jets. While this should be a good overall flight, during my flight, one of the air crew was extremely rude for no reason. When I brought her an empty cup to discard in the galley (at the back of the plane), she refused to throw it away claiming that she’s not taking garbage at that time. Her associate always then kindly hung a trash bag in the galley so passengers could free up their seats from garbage. When they were serving drinks on flight, she repeatedly refused to make way for people to pass such that many passengers m who used the restrooms were trapped behind the plane. She told everyone to wait at the aft until she finished serving the entire plane. Again the other male air crew stepped up by giving way one person at a time. It is odd to see this lady air crew behaving that way. But she gave her phenomenal colleagues a bad name 😢 Having said that, I think the offering is still good. It was relatively on time and deliver the promised value. The experience wasn’t anywhere first class due to this lady air crew’s behavior that may have been ab outlier
