Pros: "The crew was very friendly, helpful and accommodating. We were in business class and appreciated the use of the Clubroom Lounge at Gatwick airport, (although none of the ground people told us about it, we happened to ask on our own.)"
Cons: "Baggage check in was a hassle. Too automated."
Pros: "staff did the best they could to assist"
Cons: "Flight change, would have like more options to reschedule flights. However good service from overall."
Pros: "Member of the crew was not too helpful. Despite my malfunction"
Cons: "Customer service. Understanding customer needs and provide best possible travel experience."
Cons: "Charging customers for meals on a transatlantic flight is a terrible way to nickel and dime your customers for the most basic provisions. Not all travellers carry accepted credit cards, including the woman sitting beside me. Because it is so common (formally standardized) for airlines to provide food on longer flights, many travellers assume their WestJet flight will the same and arrive unprepared. I normally love WestJet for their customer service, but these flight attendants talked down to customers with legitimate questions. I am choosing another airline for my next international flight, although reluctantly so - I hope to see some changes from WestJet for a more comfortable flight."
Pros: "The flight staff were excellent. Very pleasant to deal with and very accommodating. They really let you feel that they were there to help and if they could they did."
Cons: "The only real irritation was the check in process. I have no issue whatsoever with the 23kg allowance per bag but the process for checking your bag, especially if you were over the limit and what the consequences may be were not obvious. My wife and I had two bags, mine was 4kg under the allowance and my wife's was 2kg over. If I had known this was going to be a potential GBP45 charge we would have shuffled things about to balance the bags. It needs to be made clear to people that they can actually weigh their bags first to find this out. My bag was already tagged and gone when we went through a lot of hassle to reduce my wifes bag weight. Anyway, this is a suggestion so that future passengers do not encounter the same frustration."
Pros: "Sensible ticket price"
Pros: "Most of the crew were nice. Captain very informative."
Cons: "It was freezing! The headphones they rented me didn’t work, or maybe it was the tablet—could barely hear the movie."
Pros: "The staff were super helpful and friendly, and the accommodations were clean and decently comfortable!"
Cons: "The food was very pricy and not that great. Also the boarding took a long time and seemed a little unorganized."
Pros: "I like the head rests that move and the GF options. The flight attendants were fabulous."
Cons: "No meal for a long trip. 9 hours is too long with out offering food no matter the ticket cost. Also, having entertainment at every seat would be more welcoming"
Cons: "Haven’t yet reached our destination, it’s our honeymoon and would have hoped to have got ther by now instead of which we are having to layover in Vancouver until the next flight because of delays on first Leg of journey we missed connecting flight"
Pros: "The flight attendants were wonderful. The macaroni and cheese was tasty."
Cons: "The plane is so old that you can only use the entertainment system on your phone, which gets tiring to hold up in front of you. Even though I was on a 10 hour flight, meals were not provided."
Pros: "Despite an ontime boarding, weather (thunderstorms) and air traffic congestion left us stuck on the tarmac for over 3 hours. Kudos to the captain for keeping us informed of every development and for taking the initiative to negotiate a southern flight plan routing that allowed us eventually to depart when other flights were being cancelled due to congestion in Heathrow airspace to the north. West Jet also put together a special team in Toronto to rebook passengers with connecting flights to later flights. This meant they had a new boarding pass ready and waiting for me by the time I got to Toronto, so the disruption was minimized."
Cons: "I had counted on buying my meal on the plane, so had not purchased any beforehand. Unfortunately, we ended up delayed on the tarmac for over 3 hours and they ran out of hot meals before they reached my seat row. I had to make do with crackers, cheese and fruit as my dinner. Lesson learned: always reserve my meal (or buy one) before boarding my flight - you never know what kind of delays will occur. To be fair, the crew did offer me a free glass of wine to go with it, which was a nice touch."
Pros: "Crew was very pleasant"
Cons: "As it was a budget flight, all food had to be purchased and the cost was high for the quality received"
Pros: "Upgraded to Plus - it was great."
Cons: "Too bad we have to pay extra for Plus to get a reasonable amount of room."
Pros: "The basics were all up to standard, the flight was very full and because it's such a long flight it is expected to have a few discomforts from time to time..."
Cons: "TURN DOWN THE VOLUME on the announcements, it was so loud I could feel the book I was holding in my hands literally vibrating. I had to plug my ears to tolerate the blasts over the PA. I requested the volume be turned down repeatedly but it was never changed... from London to Calgary. More frequent offers for food/beverage would be appreciated, there were only two rounds made for the entire flight of almost 9hrs. It's just nice to have a bit more flexibility..."
Pros: "Very fast today"
Cons: "Man these flights are boring"
Pros: "The friendly company of stranded passengers before and after boarding and crew who did their best not to get rattled."
Cons: "It took so long to get home and it is a long trip anyway."
Pros: "Piot gave clear and timely announcements as flight was delayed do to weather,. In-flight crew were friendly and providing a relaxing environment. The include meal was very good."
Cons: "Plane is showing its age. Bathroom was in terrible condition."
Cons: "It did not happen. Being transfered to air canada in Toronto was a night mare"
Pros: "The crew were lovely and I felt very safe and well looked after."
Cons: "Only credit cards or Uk debit were accepted to buy food. I paid $13.99 CAN for wifi for the entire flight that went down after about 2 hours"
Pros: "The economy class seats were surprisingly comfortable."
Cons: "It's a personal taste thing, but I don't like flights where it is necessary to separately purchase all the normal things that other airlines provide on international flights (blankets, wine, food, etc). I'm sure others appreciate that level of economy, however."
Pros: "Re-booked on Westjet after my WOW airlines was cancelled. Didn't know what to expect - pleasantly surprised, Great service from top to bottom leaving Gatwick Airport. Will make them my top preference in searching future flights out that way."
Cons: "Nothing - the entire experience (check-in, flight, deplaning) exceeded my expectations."
Pros: "Plane was clean"
Cons: "Waitjet did not perform preventative maintenance and had to change a tire at Gatwick delaying flight by 2 hours with terrible/late/inaccurate information about when flight would resume = FAIL Result was overnite in Toronto. Lets see how the 6:45 (3446) goes ?"
Pros: "It was a smaller aircraft and the staff were friendly"
Cons: "was right at the back of the plane and could not hear the announcements clearly."
Pros: "The plane was less busy so many people had an empty seat next to them. It was great for leg room and I slept the whole flight!"
Pros: "The plane ✈ flew without incident."
Cons: "Airplane left late, no in flight movies, menu of food was very unusable. Because I am lactose intolerant, still, lots of cheesy entrées on the menu."
Pros: "The flight and crew were great, great flight. Arrived earlier then stated. I still enjoy flying in and out of Hamilton. Great airport. If I can book West jet again, I will, great airline. Took some great pictures from the aircraft. Thank you !!!!"
Cons: "Security, too much, even when we arrived, customs twice."
Pros: "Exact on time."
Cons: "Refreshment should have more choices"
Cons: "That the fare advertised didn’t include a seat or a suitcase. Very unfair comparison."
Pros: "We arrived early."
Cons: "Checked bag fees. Agents at check-in tried to get me to check my carry-on claiming my carry-on was too big. My carry-on is a pilot crew bag by TravelPro, which I pointed out to them. Had to get a supervisor. No free food during the flight. Luckily, someone told me. I ended up purchasing food from a restaurant in the terminal to bring on the flight."
Pros: "Main stewardess was very pleasant. Not full flight so I moved back and had a seat to myself."
Pros: "Comfort, attention to detail and above all else, feeling welcome and safe throughout check-in to thanking crew de-planing. Incredible experience as always."
Cons: "Nothing comes to mind"
Pros: "Comfortable seat with lots of leg room"
Pros: "Got to my destination..."
Cons: "Westjet will nickel and dime you for everything. Did a +9h flight from Vancouver to London and no meal is included during the whole flight. They keep trying to upsale you for everything. Not only is the food expensive it is also real garbage. Flight was delayed by 75 minutes and nearly missed my connection. Of course no checked baggage is included in your already expensive ticket. You have to fork in another 30$ for the privilege of checking luggage. WestJet pretends to offer 200-300$ cheaper plane tickets compared to the competition, but this is false. I found plenty of other flights for same or even cheaper prices with quality airline companies like Lufthansa or Air Canada that include a meal and checked baggage and other perks, but in my case I had already booked. I really recommending you looking for other airline companies for any flight that is not short haul. WestJet's slogan is an airline company with owner that care... Whatever the hell that means. Maybe someone can explain? WestJet brags about it's outstanding customer service while at the same time cutting every corner possible on service. Kind of a contradiction."
Pros: "Crew was cheery, in-flight entertainment innovation evident, plenty of opportunity for water/snacks"
Cons: "We were heckled by gate crew about whether my dog’s carrier was too small for him. Many suggestions were made that we were subjecting him to animal cruelty, and that we were abusive to him. He’s 7lbs, so he can’t be much smaller a dog, and his carrier it turns out, doesn’t fit under WestJet seats, despite being within carry-on luggage dimension limits (their life jackets take up most of the legroom), and thus could not be any bigger. Did they want me to have a smaller dog, or a Euclidean space-defying carrier? I suppose they were suggesting that taking a dog aboard WestJet is abusive, because they certainly don’t provide adequate space for anything larger than a hamster, they hassle you about it, and they charge you $50 for the fun of it. One agent had the nerve to reach into his carrier without permission, unannounced, and invade his personal space, him being a rescue and very anxious."
Pros: "I flew through the air in a metal container across the country in the time it would have taken me to drive 400 km, so that's pretty neat."
Cons: "Provide complimentary movies West Jet. Parading around tablets to rent for $6 is a bad look."
Pros: "No Comments."
Cons: "The Female Stewardesses either conveniently did not see me sitting in the middle row seats, or perhaps had other alternative means. I felt totally and absolutely ignored, particularly when Meals and Beverages were being served."
Pros: "Friendly crew"
Cons: "Terrible food options. Sandwiches and croissants vastly overpriced: $8 for a croissant ($1) with a slice of cheese (25cents) and ham (50 cents) is ridiculous. Flight delayed on the ground for 1 1/2 hours."
Pros: "The crew was nice enough, although I did overhear them talking negatively about some other customers out of earshot."
Cons: "The food options were pretty poor for an eight hour flight. I'm happy I brought some food with me because there were few options (snacks - biscotti and party mix, no meals). They also charged customers for checking a bag; most airlines allow the first checked bag to be free for international flights. Not the case here."
Pros: "More leg space than I was used to and pretty spacious bathrooms (I'm 6'5")"
Cons: "The purchased Wi-Fi went down immediately and didn't come back up until 8 hours into the 10 hour flight."
Pros: "Great crew"
Cons: "Entertainment system was playing up"
Pros: "The lead crew member was extremely positive and apologetic and at the same time he was very entertaining whenever usually-boring announcements were made to the passengers."
Cons: "It sucks that the crew had to deal with so many angry passengers after we were stuck on the tarmac for 2 hours and in the gate for 1 hour, with a total delay of 3 hours, causing many other passengers to miss their connections. That said, the crew did their best to remain positive and accommodating."
Pros: "Our choice to pay the upgrade to Plus seating was WELL worth the cost. My husband and I had never flown 'first class' before and thought on this almost 9 hour flight we would give it a try. Wow! Seat comfort was fantastic. Service was wonderful. Food was great. We were made to feel like royalty."
Cons: "They didn't let us know ahead of time and there wouldn't be televisions. If you hadn't downloaded the WestJet app you couldn't watch TV. You had to rent a tablet for seven dollars or buy an Internet package to download the app. That's fine just frustrating"
Pros: "The return flight was acceptable. seats were comfortable. Would recommend on spending the extra $$ on get extra legroom seats."
Cons: "Flying out on December 24, the airline kept us at the airport for 6 (including 2 hours on the plane) hours before cancelling the flight because they could not get water pressure to the washrooms. We were supposed to leave for London (LHR) at 8:35pm and were notified of the cancellation at approx 2am on December 25. The only other flight that would be available would be on December 25 at the same time the 24th flight was supposed to leave. The service desk was not taking any requests for finding or re-booking flights, we were supposed to call their support number at 7am on the following day. We were offered cab fare accommodation from and back to the airport. They offered hotel stay which I passed on. They provided $60 of airport food that could only be used at certain restaurants, not compatible to purchase chips or drinks (non-alcoholic) from other stores. The coupons as compared to Air Canada, which are valid for a year were only valid for 24 hours. In the end the only "monetary" compensation I got from WestJet was 250 westjet dollars that expire in 12 months."
Cons: "Plane was 3 hours late to leave, Plane was old so the overhead bins were small, Had to pay for food on 7 hour transalantic flight even thought plane was delayed 3 hours on tarmac. USB power plug didn't work - if you want cheap flights to Gatwick, stick with Air Transat"
Pros: "The staff was friendly. The food was great."
Pros: "The crew was great for both flights that I took. The flight that I was able to use WestJet Connect was very nice to be able to watch movies & also track the flight's progress."
Cons: "It should be made more clear in the email correspondence the importance of downloading the app before the flight. I read the email briefly but the most important information was that there was not to be an Note 7s on the plane. It was less clear that the only way to get movies on the flight was through the app & by the time I realized this I was already on the plane & unable to download it fast enough before departing. However the flight home I had the app & that was lovely."
