Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews
Pros: "Great value. Free beverages including a small selection of beer, wine and whiskey. Otherwise no frills, no with, no entertainment. Short haul flights, no problem. Best bargain airline"
Cons: "There is a fee to change your assigned seat US$10-20(?), regardless of whether it's a "better" seat. Fortunately, this trip our seats (family of three) were near where we wanted to be. But, it would have been disappointing to have to pay for each seat change for each leg, each way."
Pros: "Great and helpful crew"
Cons: "Porter airlines mechanical failure caused 13 passengers to miss connection to DC"
Pros: "Staff on the checkin desk was very kind and helpful."
Pros: "The crew was great and friendly."
Cons: "Nothing, I think for the flight duration it was good."
Cons: "Gate checked bags sent to baggage claim instead of given back at the gate safely because flight was 95 minutes late and they were in a hurry. Flight was 95 minutes late because of inability to balance weight. Spent 50 minutes on runway “burning fuel”. I will never fly Porter again."
Cons: "The flight was delayed by 2 hours . We missed our appointment and want to be compensated!!!"
Pros: "The almonds."
Cons: "Aircraft was stifling throughout the entire flight."
Cons: "Delayed for unknown reason. Boarding was unusually disorganized."
Pros: "Very friendly crew, we were a bit delayed but they dealt with us as quickly and politely as possible."
Cons: "A better idea of what was happening when the plane had to be delayed-we all lined up, then they got notice that we couldn't leave yet."
Pros: "Crew really nice"
Cons: "Those seats à te a bit tight even in the front end"
Pros: "We waited 45min in the plane before taking off, I missed my transfert flight and I had to wait for the next one in Toronto"
Pros: "Easy on/easy off"
Cons: "The lavatory was dirty and had a very high odour. There MUST be a way to clean it between flights."
Cons: "Flight canceled and booked to the next day. Then figured out to get another flight. Too tired and hoping to not fly Porter again. Both my flights, to go and come back from Canada, got canceled."
Pros: "I slept the whole flight"
Cons: "b/c i booked (at the recommendation of kayak), my flight was cancelled and i was refunded by airline. My return trip was not returned to me."
Pros: "I thought the staff - all of them, ground and cabin crew - were just extraordinary; so attentive, welcoming and really trying to make travel as easy and enjoyable as possible. For instance, my original first flight leg was delayed, which would jeopardize me making my connection in Toronto. The gentleman at the check-in desk at my departure airport immediately arranged for me to take an earlier flight into Toronto so I would not miss my connection. I didn't - or indeed couldn't - ask for anything more. Thank you to the Porter crew!"
Pros: "Shuttle/downtown convenience / ease of boarding procedures due to small size / coffee in lounge!"
Pros: "Ground and air crew were very friendly and attentive to every passenger's needs."
Cons: "Pilot's landing was very rough and sloppy. It almost felt like a rushed landing (and I would believe it since it was landing at YTZ, a smaller airport.)"
Cons: "Sat behind two people who were treating a child pretty badly and were loud and rude to everyone else. Crew did nothing. It might seem cheap but you pay for everything. Seats. Bags. You get free wine but you’ll need it after trying to fly this airline."
Pros: "Free snacks"
Cons: "The flight was delayed twice and they didn’t tell us until 5 minutes after we had to leave. Also, I received the email that my flight was delayed from porter until 30 minutes after they announced it at the airport."
Pros: "The service was great and fast"
Cons: "Both of my Porter Airlines flights were delayed. It seems they often delay / cancel flights"
Pros: "Plane and crew great."
Cons: "Check in and ground crew rude and poor. Flight delayed and no one told us anything."
Pros: "Crew was really nice and personable."
Cons: "Of 4 Porter flights in 3 days, the first two legs of each were delayed, resulting in 0 time between connections. You'd think that because we're traveling on one airline with two legs, there'd be some communication between flights that passengers on the first delayed flight are going to misconnect on their second flight. Didn't seem like there was... really stressful."
Pros: "Once they were up and running, Porter was a great airline. Flight was short so i didn't expect anything fancy on the food menu anyway"
Cons: "My flight got delayed at least 5 times. Not a great first experience. Had an eerie likeliness of Spirit, which we all know is just not a real airline. not sure if I would fly again if that is the general perception of Porter airlines. I could care less about comfort as long as I get to where I am going on time, which I did not."
Pros: "Cancelled with no explanation and a very last minute email notification. No compensation provided or lodging. They just booked me on a flight two days later! Unbelievable. I will avoid flying with them ever again."
Cons: "Cancelled with no explanation and a very last minute email notification. No compensation provided or lodging. They just booked me on a flight two days later! Unbelievable. I will avoid flying with them ever again."
Pros: "Johnathan at the gate was very informative and gave us information. But it was very obvious how unorganized the company is run."
Cons: "We were delayed going from Newark to Montreal (both legs), as well as Montreal to Newark. The reason given for the delays was "there is an international pilot shortage" by a Porter gate women, meaning that Porter books more flights then it has hired Pilots. Probbaly one of the most unorganized and unprofessional business models in the industry. The lounge does not even have food for purchase, the refrigerator shelves are empty and no where to go get food. Has been an awful experience."
Cons: "Flight was delayed for six hours causing many customers to miss connecting flights, customers were rudely handled. Porter staff were extremely unhelpful. Customers were verbally attacked when asking for help and several walked away in tears."
Pros: "Toronto City airport is a convenient place to connect and Porter makes the experience nicer with a very good waiting area/lounge. Porter flies small planes but the seating is far more spacious than on the major carriers. I actually had legroom to spare whereas my knees are usually crushed on other airlines."
Pros: "Porter was very prompt on their loading and take off. Complementary wine and beer in delight was a bonus. Complementary beverages and he mix was a nice surprise during my layover as well. Their waiting area was large, adequate in seating and comfortable."
Cons: "The bathroom stalls at the waiting luge were small. You can barely fit your luggage in there with you."
Pros: "There was a delay on my first flight with a very short layover and everyone I talked to helped ease my worry that I'd miss my flight. They ended up prioritizing us through security and holding our connecting flight back until we got on."
Pros: "-quick connection and lounge -having real glass to drink out of on the flight is a real treat"
Cons: "Stairs in and out of plane"
Cons: "They double booked our seats. Another woman was asked to leave on an over sold flight. The flight attendants (not all) were rude and curt. While I understand that they have had long days but their job is customer service. We were talked down to multiple times."
Cons: "Flight was delayed and an earlier one with plenty of room the crew refused to book us on."
Cons: "There were some weird smells"
Pros: "Glass !"
Pros: "Lounge and snacks at Toronto were great. Staff were excellent. Flight was enjoyable."
Cons: "Delays mainly. Flight from Toronto to Montreal was almost jeopardized due to lateness of first leg (Newark to Toronto). Understandably there was heavy rain that day. Return journey, (Montreal to Newark via Toronto) the connecting flight was delayed by an hour. In general, on-flight food could be more substantial, considering the time between Newark and Montreal."
Cons: "It was an hour late taking off"
Pros: "Complimentary buffet for lay overs."
Cons: "Hot in plane. Late"
Pros: "Professional staff, couldn't ask for more."
Cons: "Turbulence, can't blame the small plane and the whining 40 year ol that made things so dramatic, grow up. I understand flights can be scary, yes I was a bit scared myself, but I did not feel the need to wheep so loud to freak everyone else out. Panicaning is the worst attribute any person could have. Best small airline I've ever flown with."
Pros: "Very friendly crew"
Pros: "Trying to get refunded is like trying to pull teethe"
Pros: "Porter is fantastic. Was shocked by the lounge in Toronto -- felt like first class, just by having such spacious areas and free food. Service on the plane was great -- loved the glass cups and generous snacks."
Cons: "Nothing. Everything was great."
Pros: "Boarding, my carry on got to go in the hole. Nice not to have to muscle it around. Personnel were so nice."
Pros: "The experience was great overall. The aircraft are modern and the crew are congenial. There are advantages to riding in such small aircraft, as boarding and deplaning are quick and easy."
Cons: "There really is nothing to complain about."
Cons: "I needed to get to Boston that day so I woke up @ 5AM for that. I arrive at the airport only to find out that the Porter airplane just "didnt arrive from last night, we're so sorry". I asked that I get to Boston the same day - that's why I purchased the ticket. The crew said "they're so sorry all flights are booked". They could either have us get a later flight (not to arrive on the same day) or refund us and have us find another airline. We asked that they take care of our flights themselves - even with other airlines. They politely but categorically refused. We got our money back and flew with Westjet, and will likely never fly with or recommend Porter again."

Pros: "I liked the price for my flight however I booked using my AirMiles."
Cons: "I have travel with WestJet many times is the past and had nothing but good to say. This was my first time using WestJet Encore and was totally shocked and disappointed. The flight crew i found to be very rude with and had an attitude. The biggest shock was the greetings and all announcements were in English accept the safety rules where the pre-recorded tape was played. If asked about the return flight from Halifax to Montreal, one word to describe it "disaster". I was totally turned off with WestJet. I will for sure continue using Porter as I was always pleased with there service. As they say "you get what you pay for"."
Pros: "Crew was nice enough and there was more leg room than on some flights I've been on."
Cons: "The power outlets didn't work and it was a long flight so my phone died and there was 0 entertainment provided, made for a long, boring flight. Ended up trying to sleep most of the time and missed the food service. The plane was also weirdly cold."
Pros: "We were late getting to YUL because of traffic, and a West Jet employee went above and beyond to make sure we made it on our flight even though we missed the cut-off time."
Pros: "We upgraded to Plus when we checked in and it was totally worth it. Extra space, food, drink. It was great!"
Cons: "No entertainment on the return flights Yeg/Yul !! Makes for a long flight."
Pros: "Always great services"
Cons: "Our flight took a 2 hours delay because of fueling error."

Cons: "I think for a flight of that duration a light meal should be served."
Cons: "Economy too cramped."
Pros: "Phenomenal all around!"

Cons: "the 40 minute delay in toronto.not so bad in middle of day but when the delay means we get home at 1:00am this is not so good"
Pros: "entertainment is good"
Cons: "im just sitting before the restroom (seat 29 C)im realy tall and the people pushing onmy seat all the time and bang my arm and the smell is realy bad and i see to much but in face for long long time because the people waiting on my place .. another bad im telling the crew and the girl she said my only option is wake the girl just beside me for asking to change the seat ...i refuse because SHE SLEEPING ! realy not happy sorry !"
Cons: "Staff was rude and lazy."
Pros: "The flight comes into Vancouver at a very good time."
Pros: "The flight attendants were very nice. Especially « Big John », he was very funny."
Cons: "We were delayed 45 minutes without reason, we asked to have our flights switched as we were nervous of missing our connecting flight and were told we could not switch. While we were waiting on the runway for over an hour I asked our flight attendant to check on the status of our connecting flight and she basically told us to hope for the best and that we would have to deal with it when we arrived in Toronto"
Cons: "Flight was cancelled then rescheduled on a flight that was over an hour delayed. We almost lost our connection to Hong Kong as a result. Made for a very stressful journey with 77 year old parent and 8 years old child long waiting/ tiring time and running to gate our flight."
Pros: "Fantastic flight!"
Cons: "Being stopped at every connection for screening. No communication about why. Nearly missing the connection due to the screenings. Being held in holding because it was being confirmed that my bag would make it on my next flight and then once confirmed it never made it anyways!!! Unprofessional and poorly executed all the way through."
Pros: "The staff are always super friendly on Westjet."
Cons: "The entertainment system is terrible. It does not work on my laptop and they sell out of ipads quickly."
Pros: "The crew."
Cons: "Everything else. Flight was delayed by over an hour, seats are slippery and SO uncomfortable. No food, no entertainment (flight was only an hour)."
Cons: "Snack was very minimal with no selection or option to purchase more."
Pros: "I liked that the inside of the plane was new, bright, and modern. Really great craft."
Cons: "It was a propeller plane and it doesn’t say that when you book. And they only gave water and pretzels. Nothing else. No soda, no coffee, etc. I was interested in purchasing a snack on board and the stewardess said they don’t sell on the flight because it was so short (40 min flight time.) lgehixh I could understand, but AirCanda offered a variety of snacks and drinks during the same 40 minute flight, so not sure what’s going on."
Pros: "It was a comfortable experience, the flight crew were attentive and friendly."
Cons: "The lack of space beneath the seat in front of me can be frustrating, especially when one is required to push their small bag underneath it."
Pros: "Quick boarding and quick to disembark."
Cons: "tiny! you get what you pay for with a turbo prop."
Cons: "You should hire agents who don't lie to passengers. That's not a good reputation 4 the company. Have an office for the baggages where passengers can address their issues."
Pros: "The flight was on time"
Pros: "The view of the ocean and all the lakes and ponds coming into St. John's."
Cons: "You don't have any good connections from New Brunswick to St. John's."
Pros: "- Flight was on time - Friendly crew"
Cons: "- My flight was from Montreal to Seattle with a connection in Calgary but the agent at the check in in Montreal was unable to confirm whether my luggage would be transferred directly to Seattle or if I had to collect it in Calgary and check in again. The crew should know or be able to verify the information in their database or somewhere at the departure not only when I arrive in Calgary! It adds a stress to the customer not knowing. - Flight of 4.30 hours and no free meals. - Impossible to use my hear phones in the plane so I couldn't hear the TV channels. I was also expecting movies and series like in Delta."
Cons: "The flight was delayed by 2 hours. So we reached almost at midnight to Vancouver."
Pros: "I liked that the pre-ordered food was given at the beginning of the flight."
Pros: "West Jet left on time. ."
Cons: "A 4 1/2 hour flight turned into close to 5 hours. Considering that a person has to be there well ahead of time, go through customs etc. a cup of coffee and 2 cookies and no entertainment anymore, it's a long and boring flight ."
Pros: "Boarding was quick and efficient, Crew was nice, competent and friendly. The Flight was quick and uneventful."
Cons: "1. Unexpected 25$ checked baggage fee 2.No meal: They only served drinks, pretzels and hard cookies. Extra food needed to be paid for. 3.Older aircraft so no entertainment options other than TV and Movies. (no way to start, pause or end any movies or programs."
Pros: "Free wine and beer."
Cons: "Our flight for Toronto on Sept. 5 , # WS589 was delayed of about 1 and half hour; so, me and about 20 other passengers missed our connection in Toronto. The crew said that Pearson airport was on a shut down due to severe thunderstorms. But the weather was nice and sunny when we arrived Toronto; in fact my connecting flight ( Hainan airlines HU 7995 had left 20 min. earlier- on time- for Bejing. The crew in Westjet plane told me that all airlines were delayed in Toronto airport due to bad weather , and so that I would not miss my connecting flight."
Pros: "Great service, on time, comfortable seats."
Cons: "Could improve the snacks quality."
Pros: "Leg room"
Cons: "Unprofessional staff. Made a mistake during boarding that caused 2 hour delay"
Pros: "all the service was very good to us"
Pros: "The fact that air Canada had a flight around the same time"
Cons: "Kept delaying with no clear idea of when we'd actually take off"
Pros: "Made it to toronto in time to catch my next flight"
Cons: "Flight was canceled Next flight was delayed 30 mins"
"Great flight, arrived early.....perfect"
Pros: "I liked everything, Air Canada and Lufthansa did everything to facilitate travel for the passengers during these uneasy times. Everything is really well organized, on schedule, with outmost courtesy and effort"
Pros: "Quiet flight in fairly empty flight"
Cons: "food choices, no blanket"
Cons: "My wifi was not working for the entire trip!"
Cons: "Travel agency did not notify me that I needed to get a Yellow Fever immunization"
Pros: "It arrived on time."
Cons: "The temperature in the cabin was way too cold. People we wearing their jackets and when I mentioned it to the cabin crew member she said a few other people would have to make a similar comment before she could request turning the temperature up. There was also a glitch in the system so that the reading lights for each seat could only be operated by the seat directly in front. The food was very uninspiring and poorly presented. The tea and coffee were awful!!!!!! The choice of movies, etc was very limited. Thank goodness it was a night flight and not too long!"
Cons: "Connections to US destinations now require your checked in baggage to be processed before you can proceed to your connecting flights. The real problem is that this is no sign or communications describing this. Everyone is simply stopped in the corridor and told that they cannot proceed farther until their name comes up green on a monitor. Unfortunately the monitor switches displays so frequently that it is almost impossible to read. In addition to that it seems names do not always appear on the monitor unless you get your boarding pass scanned a the desk (this is not communicated to you unless you ask why your name is not on the monitor at all). People late for connecting flights (because of inbound flight delays) are required to wait without explanation sometimes needlessly if they don't have a checked bag. A nightmare if you're trying to make your connection. In addition once you've cleared that hurdle you need to go through security again (something we were unprepared for since we were already in the secure area. You then proceed to customs and then your connecting flight (if you haven't already missed it by then). Allow lots of time to get to your connecting flight, and ask to get you boarding pass scanned at that mysterious "checked bag" stop in the corridor."
Pros: "Once on the flight, everything went well."
Cons: "Real nightmare as I had booked YUL-LYS-BRU with Brussels Airlines (SN). YUL-LYS was operated with Air Canada. Came within 4 minutes of missing flight despite being at airport 3 hrs early. SN had not released ticket to Air Canada so they could not check me in. Had to call SN customer service after AC could not check me in, then wait and wait as they had to try to correct the mistake 3x before AC counter could issue boarding passes. Terrible experience going through this with 2 small kids waiting. It’s as if the two airlines’ systems don’t communicate but passenger is responsible for resolving."
Pros: "The crew inside the plane was friendly pretty much the only thing good about the travelling"
Cons: "The seats were not confortable and old and no entertainment at all ! The food was horrible and the customer service from air Canada at Montreal airport was rude and unprofessional 3 hours delay without even an apology or an explanation! I went to see a person from a air canada at a desk at the boarding gates and he wouldn't even have the courtesy to give me 1 minute of his time to explain why the plane is late his awnser was wait for the announcement and you will see his attitude was very apathetic. Overall I was very disappointed"
Pros: "Our daughter's first time traveling alone. She slept most of the time and she said it was fine and comfortable enough."
Cons: "The flight was delayed by an hour and then once up in the air, passengers were told the food cart didn't make it the 6 hour flight so no food or snacks for the entire flight from Montreal to San Francisco."
Pros: "Every thing expert the food"
Cons: "The food"
Pros: "The steward on the plane was friendly, funny and accommodating to all. He took time to engage some young children before takeoff. Took into consideration who was travelling together and left a positive impression! Plane boarded early and was loaded and ready to roll AHEAD of scheduled take off time."
Cons: "Was put on a Turkish airlines flight - landed in India 12 hours AFTER scheduled landing. My luggage did not reach India. After numerous calls got only 1 out of 2 of my bags ; 2nd bag still missing 1 week after landing in India WOW"
Pros: "the crew was nice and helpul with my worry about loosing the flight to tel aviv because the flight to toronto was late due to snow in toronto."
Cons: "while on my way to the airport i got a message that my flight was cancelled. luckily i had a friend who took care of putting me on another flight to toronto. weather created changes but just sending a message your flight is cancelled is not the right way to deal with things. when finally arriving to toronot i had to rush to my flight to tel aviv, it was insane, just to realize that also this flight was postponed due to the weather. air canada should be more involved in helping travelers to deal with their connections."
Pros: "The seating was good and the pilot was friendly."
Cons: "There was not a good movie selection and there was not a lot of information regarding the altitude and there was not very much warning during turbulence."
Cons: "Although we boarded on time, there was a wait of over 1.5h in the plane. First time in my life i was beyond uncomfortable. What i couldn't understand was why we had to be in the plane for the refueling. It makes more sense to wait in the airport at the gate rather in a tight confined place. I'm overall pissed at the situation. Not to mention my seat was defective and although the seat was up, it would push back the moment you put weight. The flight attendant kept on asking me to place my seat in the upright position (which wasn't possible). To get her off my back, i held my back up with my own weight. I'm disappointed with aircanada."
Cons: "crew was rude and unhelpful with delayed flight"
Cons: "I want to seriously complain about Air Canada and Kayak booking systems. I reserved the tickets to Shanghai but there were no place reminding me that I need Canadian VISA to connect flights between two Canadian cities. I am a Chinese citizen who is working at USA and not allowed to change flights in Canada based on the newest government rules. However, in both booking systems, there is no reminders. In my opinion, either Kayak or Air Canada can add a simple checkbox to let the potential guest choose his or her nationality status, then this kind of trouble can be mitigated. We talked and called Air Canada people but no buying. They kept saying this is our responsibility. We bought United Airline tickets at the last minutes and cost us about $2,400 because we cannot wait to get back China to prepare our wedding ceremony and US Visa interview. We are very very disappointed with Air Canada and will keep complaining about this issue. As a service supplier, how cannot you think on behalf of a customer? The air company definitely knows more about government rules than a customer. We did have mistakes of not researching government rules. However, the biggest mistake was we trusted Air Canada and Kayak who we thought had taken care of those kind of issues for us. Thanks."
Pros: "Service was excellent - staff was very attentive, pleasant and helpful and seemed like they truly enjoyed their job. We will definitely use them again when flying from Montreal"
Pros: "The gate agents were polite and the boarding was relatively smooth. Food was fine and flight attendants were Excellent!!!"
Cons: "First point of contact was incredibly rude. First she told me she couldn't find my reservation. Once she did, she gave me a lecture about my married name. Next she refused to let me take my carry on bag saying it was too large even though it fit on all flights to Montreal. Once I proved it would fit with the luggage sizer she had moved on to another customer and ignored me for 10 minutes while I stood there even though my boarding passes were printed. When I got to the flight, I found it could have been gate checked but there was no need as the flight was NOT FULL and my bag fit with no problem at all in the overhead bins. In 35 years of flying this was the worst experience I've ever had."
Pros: "Ease of boarding - no long queues. Offer to put hand luggage in the hold with no charge."
Cons: "Extreme delays on my return flight which made me miss my connection and get rebooked on another flight for the next day. We were delayed on departure, then on the tarmac, then in the air, and finally when getting off the plane. I am glad that I was rebooked and was given a hotel to stay at, but I did not like the way I was treated by Air Canada staff at customs. I passed through customs only to be sent back into Canada after having crossed through security because the staff decided to close. We were told by other staff members that it was up to them to decide when they were done and to talk them. I ran through the whole airport with about 7 other people to make it. Why make us cross through security only to send us back? There was no one there to guide us on what to do. I had to go through the whole thing again the following day only to have my face cream taken away (it is technically cream, not a liquid) and then be detained. None of this happened AT ALL the day before. I'd give more details but it was a complete mess."
Pros: "Great food, comfortable seats."
Cons: "Long delay on departure, the ground crew decided to leave without clearing us for the flight. Probably helped cause the luggage catastrophe that followed on the next flight."
Cons: "This flight was two and a half hours late. We lost an hour and 45 minutes due to a mechanical problem with our airplane, then lost another 45 minutes due to a storm in Toronto. Air Canada blamed the weather for our late arrival, my missed connection and claimed no responsabilility for the fact that my trip ended up taking more than 24 hours when it was supposed to take about 9 hours. Also, there was the matter of the lost luggage which was a carry on that I accepted to have checked as the Air Canada staff seemed desperate to check our carry ons on a full flight to Toronto from Montreal. I ended up spending the night in the Vancouver airport without access to my luggage."
Pros: "Movies for free, although the seat next to mine didn't work. Plenty of leg room."
Cons: "Some of it was air canada, some of it was weather and some of it was the montreal airport. scheduled for 6:00 rescheduled 7:00 rescheduled 8:00 boarded 8:30 took off 10:00 1. air caanda - boarded the plane, then came on with announcement that we would be sitting on tarmac for an 1.5 hours. We were delayed for hour and half already, why load us and make us sit in a warm aircraft. Air Canada offered us 10.00 vouchers for dinner... problem was they did it so late nothing was open. It should have been done earlier. 2. weather - caused the initial problem in NYC, no fault of air canada. 3. Montreal airport - Our gates were switched 3 times during the delays. Which happens, however the gate changes started at one end of the airport, moved to the other end of the airport and back to the original end."
Pros: "Boarding was good, but pretty bad flights overall. One of the worst I ever had in my life! The plane seats we had had so little cushion that is was painful to sit. My husband was avoiding touching the back by leaning on his arms and he is great shape, don't think elderly and in pain by himself...Entertainment simply non-existent and food as well... The crew were borderline okay. Plus the plane drove for about 20 minutes at Montreal and about 20 in Chicago before we left and after we landed...Let's say I saw parts of O'Hare in Chicago, I didn't even know existed!!!"
Cons: "Pretty bad flights overall. One of the worst I ever had in my life! The plane seats we had had so little cushion that is was painful to sit. Cons: "Our flight was turned around after we had gotten to Toronto. They claimed that they had shut down the airport due to bad weather. They took us back to Montreal where we sat in on the tarmac for two hours. They said that there was a second storm Coming through Toronto and that the airport was shutdown again. They then canceled our flight. After standing in line for three hours at customer service they told me they couldn't get me on another flight until tomorrow night and ariving at my destination two days later. The coustomer service rep then told me to just go ahead and call the customer service number because she couldn't help me. They said they wouldn't pay for any accommodations because it was weather related. The issue with their argument is that only one other flight was canceled into Toronto. Air Canada actually had several more flights that day that that landed in Toronto after they told us the airport was closed. The customer service was embarrassing. They had us wait for over three hours to be helped and there were four desk which at most times they only had two people working. Many times there was only one person. The entire thing was pathetic."
Pros: "Air crew was nice. Pilot nice too."
Cons: "Old plane. Smaller seat size than comparable airlines. Terrible food: a slice of oily cske, served in a plastic sleeve, must be the new low for an international breakfast...no individual tvs on the sets....hello, step into the 21st century.... And the selection available via your iPad or laptop and their wifi was small, and old...we had paid to upgrade our economy tickets to the next level, and we expected more...the size of the upgraded seats was not great and there wa no foot rest to put your feet on, which is a significant help to someone who flies so many hours and can assist with circulation...."
Cons: "Tough to have a long-haul flight without functioning seat-back entertainment. Mine never worked. Asked three times about it - three times the system was "rebooted" - to no avail. I told each subsequent flight attendant that it had already been reset - they just "tried" it again. Very frustrating over the course of several hours. No one ever checked to see whether their re-set actually worked. Also, not sure why the window seats now have an arm rest on the window side of the seat - seriously interferes with passenger comfort when trying to sleep."
Cons: "One of my three flights was unnecessarily delayed by two hours, enough that I missed my last connection and had to stay overnight in Vancouver. There were no technical complications or weather complications. It was simply because something had been misscheduled and the flight crew needed a longer rest time between flights. This is completely avoidable, and the attendent who checked me in even said so. While the hotel and shuttle were paid for, Air Canada only gave me a $7 breakfast voucher, which was only redeemable at the hotel's measly breakfast counter rather than anywhere in the airport. For the unnecessary delays I had to deal with, i should had received more credit. This was an utterly disappointing travel experience."
Pros: "The snack selection is excellent"
Cons: "No complaints"
Cons: "The 6 1/2 hour flight from Montréal CANADA to San Francisco, CA USA, is considered a "shared border flight," which means 1) you pay $25 for your first checked bag, $35 for the next, and $100 for subsequent bags. The food is horrible and the type you'd expect on a puddle jumper from NY to Boston. Clearly Air Canada executives are aware that Canada and the US are separate countries. This is just an attempt to gouge the consumer. Unfortunately Air Canada is the only Airline I can fly out of Montreal so I'm stuck with them. : ("
Pros: "friendly pilot"
Cons: "Delayed 25 minutes, and threatened to fly without 15 passengers due to strong headwinds and need to reduce weight. Never heard that one before."
Pros: "The plane was nice and spacious. A CA agent stationed by customs helped about five of us get to the front of the line, so we'd make our next flight."
Cons: "1. After playing 20 questions at the check-in kiosk, it was unable to print our documents. 2. So we played 20 questions again and the second machine failed to check us in. 3. The flight was delayed about an hour (due to weather, not your fault), so our connection was tight. We alerted the agent at the gate (along with several others). She didn't help at all. She just told us to go to the gate. Well, we had to go through customs, so that wasn't helpful. What we were asking is if she could alert the gate agents at the next flight that we were running as fast as we could. 4. So five of us get to the next gate as they're paging us that the doors are closing. 5. Our bags didn't make the flight, which wasn't unexpected, but it was worrisome when the agent at our final destination told us she couldn't tell where they were."
Cons: "One man wanted me to check an empty carry on bag I travel for 10 years with this high quality foldable carry on bag, it is a tight in their test cradle because of the wheels but it does fit. Even a passanger offer me is support telling the agent he was not reasonable after getting the bag in and out 4 times he still wanted me to check the bag in ? After 10 min arguments he said ok put it on the floor ! I could of put 2 of my foldable bag on the top storage if I had 2.... it was a connecting from same airline a much smaller plane which accepeted the bag . Very unpleasant ! Some people like to feel in power."
Cons: "had to pa for poor selection (the cheese "platter" ran out quickly :( )"
Cons: "Air Canada failed to transfer my bag from flight 1 to connecting flight 2. This not only happened to me but to other people traveling on the same connecting flight as well. My bag was delivered later then the promised time, it was also returned damaged. It is now almost one week since I have taken my flight and I am unable to process a claim because they have not updated my file via their Bag Tracer program. It is clear that they still have a lot of work to do to be considered a real commercial air line company"
Pros: "Boarding process was good"
Cons: "No free snacks offered"
Pros: "The ONLY part of flying Air Canada that I used to like was your partnership with SAS, over the past ten years I have lost more airtravel points through Star Alliance troubles than I could have made in the decade before. Luckily when I fly from my birth place of St. John's NL, you're ground staff are the absolute best! I can give "shout outs" to each and every one of them. From those ready for retirement to the new staff just in from "who knows where", they get the whole "customer service" priority that your airline needs to focus on. Your management in Halifax "Sharon" is out of this world too, other than that whether through Lufthansa, Air Canada or anywhere I would travel, seeing that red leaf on your wing would make me ashamed to be Canadian."
Cons: "I paid extra for a seat to ensure leg room, all I got was ear ache! The flight - although half empty had no place for my briefcase, but I was "ordered" to push my sealskin bag under the dirty greasy seat in front of me. When I requested they store it upfront for take-off & landing - the french female steward started flirting with the man sitting next to me and didn't even offer a response. When drinks came around - I was handed a half empty glass with juice on it's exterior and borrowed a napkin from the next seat. Later I did get a napkin "thrown gently" over the person she enjoyed speaking with. I was happy to wait until connecting passengers disembarked before the local traffic, but was appalled when the more senior female steward stopped a local passenger who I know has anxiety about flying - to insist she let the other passengers off first. Air Canada needs to be educated on what human behaviour entails, before they can graduate to customer service. Together with my first name, you can know my last name is Floyd"
Cons: "Boarding was slow and chaotic because of the number of passengers bringing oversize carry-on bags, presumably to try to avoid the checked-bag fee. The overhead bins filled up early, and passengers squabbled over the available space and objected when flight attendants told them they would have to gate-check their bags. The aisle was congested and blocked for long periods of time as people tried to fit their bags into the bin, and the plane left the gate more than 15 minutes late because of the slow boarding. There were about 100 people on the flight, but only about 20 at baggage claim (including at least two family groups), another indication that the checked-bag fee caused passengers to bring oversize carry-on bags. The overall rating for this flight would be significantly higher if it weren't for the boarding process."
Pros: "Nothing in particular stood out in Montreal or the flight to Boston, as better than average...meh"
Cons: "Our Swiss crew told us over the loudspeaker several times that "even if connecting we still need to get our luggage" which turned out to be false as our luggage was transferred to the Boston bound plane automatically... We were ushered out as a group to a connection security check which required electronic kiosks to be used for scanning our passports photos and fingerprints... They fraught with malfunctions then after waiting in line for s while we did the whole check all over again with s human security agent in s booth... There were only 2 security agents in the booths as well but there really needed to be several more to keep the line moving quicker... After security we walk directly out to departures but no mention of baggage claim, which was fine had we not been misinformed by Swiss initially... We ended up inquiring several times with SirCsnsda staff until it was clear Swiss had misinformed us."
Cons: "The port for the earphones didn't work 100% You had to jiggle it to get it to work"
Pros: "Had a great conversation wih a guy from Switzerland an it really helped to pass the time."
Cons: "I didn't like that they either started boarding too early or we waited a long time to get off the runway as it seemed we were on the plane a long time before we actually left. Also we just received our snack and our drink and as soon as we received them, a stewardess told us to all put our tables up and I do believe that it was because we were descending to land. It seemed like forever before we received our snack and then we're told we couldn't use our tables. I think they should have started the snacks earlier as it was quite a big plane and it probably would take quite a long time to serve everyone and the worst part of it all was that I had asked for a can of pop, so I had to hold my can of pop, my glass pop and try to get my snack out of the package which was not easy at all."
Pros: "They didnt loose my luggage this time."
Cons: "do your self a favor and find a different airline. When i got home and talked to others about my travels the said " what did you expect, i wont fly air canada" I wish i would have know before i booked my flight."
Cons: "on march 13/ 2016 booked my tickets on kayak.com so end up getting it with vayama.on july 28 missed my flight for a family raison called vayama and explained the situation they said they will help me just they need to confirm with the airlines (air canada) and they will give me new tickets.no body called me back ,called air canada said: we have ticket but you need to get it from vayama.called vayama again he said sorry about that i will let everyone know and he promise me that i will get help a.s.a.p.did't hear from them left with my wife and two kids in morocco for a week end up buying new tickets from laufthansa"
Cons: "On the way back from Quebec City to Montreal we were asked to check our carry-ons as luggage, because "there is no room' on the plane. It was an empty flight. ALL overhead compartments were empty. Both flights - Quebec to Montreal and Montreal San Francisco were late. As the result, we have to spend 1.5 hours in the baggage claim area, because "there are no baggage agents in SFO available". THAT WAS THE WHOLE REASON WE ONLY HAD CARRY-ONS! By far, one of the worst flight experience in the last 10 year."
Cons: "After waiting 30 minutes after our boarding time, I got an email on my phone saying the gate had changed. No one at the current gate knew anything about it and I went to ask but no one could be found. I asked a man sitting behind the gate, who happened to be the pilot, and he also knew nothing about it. Needless to say, the gate changed and absolutely nobody was told about it. 2 hours later, our flight finally took off, and I was thanked by the pilot for getting us to the right gate... At least he provided a little humor to the situation! Plane also wasn't cleaned, pretzels and trash all over the floor."
Pros: "The crew and their sincere attitude to be of help. Wonderful team of professionals."
Cons: "One hour delay, which was very tiring for someone who already had gone through the 9 hour flight torture from Athens. The Global Entry for US bound passengers procedure is very confusing. Maybe it would help if the steps were communicated on the US bound passengers before disembarking. First the passport process (easy) then there is this confusing process where we need to see our names in green on the screen, with some staff telling us to move on while others insist that we need to stay back and wait for our names to go green on screens that keep changing. Good idea and intentions to help clear bags, and can be improved. Overall the Montreal to DC flight (with the exception of the awful Montreal airport and the long delay) was excellent."
Pros: "I had a wonderful experience with the crew on broad. The pilot was amazing. The cabin Attendent in first class was very lovely and sweet. She was the reason for my nice experience since I had a horrible time with the gate staff."
Cons: "I had a horrible time with the gate staff. They made me check my bag at the gate even though it fits in the overhead bin. I did three flight with air canada prior to this flight with the same carryon. I didn't appreciate the ladies attitude. She said I don't care who or what class you fly so took my roller and tagged it. Then she let the guy next to me get on with his bigger roller only because he was first class. I had to upgrade myself to first class to keep my roller on me. I had things that I couldn't part from my carry on. Cost me $500 US dollar and then she said to me. What ever thrills you. Wow. I am star alliance gold with two airlines and I have never ever been treated this way ever. I will never take air canada ever again. The 1800 customer service isn't any better."
Cons: "The fact that because I was late for my flight, my reservation was cancelled. I was not given the opportunity to change my flight at all, I just lost out on the return portion of my travel. I would have been willing to pay a fee to change my return, but not given the opportunity. Had I booked directly with the airline, they would have had no problem making a change. Buyer beware!!! If you don't book directly with an airline, you may suffer the same fate as me! This was an almost $1,300 dollar learning experience. Do not use third party online booking agents! You do not have the same protections as dealing with the airlines directly."
