Top tips for finding cheap flights to Hawaii

  • Your journey will begin at Ottawa Macdonald–Cartier International Airport (YOW). Direct flights to Hawaii are not offered, so you will be looking at flights with at least one layover. These layovers typically occur at major airline hubs such as Vancouver (YVR) or U.S. cities like Los Angeles (LAX).
  • Depending on your Hawaiian destination, you’ll likely land at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) in Honolulu, the primary gateway to the Hawaiian Islands. From here, inter-island flights can take you to neighboring islands like Maui, Kauai, or the Big Island.

These include a diverse entertainment selection, with movies and TV shows, and the provision of special dietary meals upon request. For added comfort on this long journey, Air Canada also provides complimentary blankets and pillows. Be sure to specify any special meal requirements in advance to make the most of your in-flight experience.
  • Long layovers can provide an opportunity to explore another city along your journey, so you might want to choose an extended stopover. For instance, a layover in Vancouver or a U.S. city can offer a chance to stretch your legs and explore if time permits. Conversely, if your goal is to reach Hawaii as quickly as possible, opt for the shortest possible layover to minimize your total travel time.
  • For travelers flying from Ottawa to Hawaii, consider an example of what different ticket classes on Air Canada might offer. In Economy Class, you'll find cost-effectiveness with basic amenities like standard seating, in-flight entertainment, and meals. Airbus plane, nice and polite staff, entertainment even as it was a short flight.

Boarding seemed to be organized bedlam. For what ever reason, preboarding took longer than 20 minutes. Made the plane 20 minutes late taking off. Luckily we arrived on time. Flight crew seemed very friendly. Only slight turbulence.

The personnel were professional and friendly. The Boeing 737 Max 9 is too claustrophobic and was very warm at both airport gates, and still warm in the air.

Very nice and clean plane. Transit time between flights was tight though

Our flights got changed from United to Air Canada and our purchased seats did not get transferred so we had to pay for seats twice. I brought it up with Air Canada and they stated I had to go back and chase it with United. The united seats were $21 Canadian each and Air Canada were $56 each so we have paid $77 for each seat. Very unhappy

So far so good but food and entertainment are not available for this flight

Electric plugs didn't work. Entertainment system wasn't working

The design of the light switch on the arm rest is ridiculous.

Plane temperature was comfortable (not to hot) when boarding and waiting for takeoff.

Michael, our FA was very attentive, even finding me a chocolate brownie from economy class when the dessert selections were all dairy based. ( intolerant, not allergic so don’t usually need to order dairy free)

Not the greatest experience everything was pretty mediocre. My seat was by the washroom in the aisle and was not located well as everyone past each other people were right in my seat and space.

The small prop plane was crowded and the overhead luggage storage is a smaller than on the jets. Other than that, the crew was good, the flight was on time and the landing was smooth.

There was a medical emergency that the crew handled very well. There was no “entertainment” of any sort-no movie/music/whatever. Food was typical of airlines: mediocre.

Late departure, so I missed connection in Detroit. But Delta gave me a great hotel & breakfast. Just sorry I could not get anything from my checked baggage.

Crew was friendly. Lost our luggage and told us it’d be in later in the evening of the day we returned. It was not. Still after 5 days have not received it.

Internet on both flights was sketchy. Thus in flight entertainment was non- existent on MN - Balrimote leg.

We never had an experience they canceled the flight and they did not offer us an alternative flight. I had to book one on my own expense. They offered us food voucher and we could not use them at the airport it kept saying not attached to an existing flight. The people at the counter were rude and cold and they did not care about our situation

It took 30 minutes to check in with the Westjet rep. They didn’t have enough seats and she needed to make a call… I am always “randomly” selected to be checked at security. Their “randomly “ selection system may need some updating. They treat people like criminals. It is not appropriate behavior.

Found the seats very crowded—too close together ! And waited a long time for our luggage All staff at both ends were excellent!!!

Flight cancelled and Kayak switched our return flight to a red eye. Ridiculous.

Just a little improvement on food but everything is excellent

Somebody either kayak or Air Canada booked my flight under my preferred name Betty instead of my legal name and I almost was denied boarding my flight

From the kind young lady (w/Vancouver air security) who expedited our check-in to U.S. Customs to the Air Canada gate crew who gave us pre-boarding, the flight attendants who actually offered a strong hand to help me board once I had surrendered my rolling walker at the door, they are all reflections of the thoughtful, genuinely helpful Canadians we have grown to appreciate. Water and other beverages were offered throughout the flight to make sure we weren't dehydrated and the cookie was great. (Husband bought the fruit & crackers snack,) I was delighted to see three movies that I would not have otherwise seen and appreciate that AC left the last film viewable until its conclusion although the flight had actually landed. Last, mahalo to the kind strong gentleman who not offered his hand to help me debark the plane, but gave me an AC pin that I'll truly treasure.

The ground staff was so rude in Toronto airport ...very rude and did not answer simple questions, and made me look like a fool. Very rude ground staff.

My flight got delayed 5 times and then got cancelled eventually, I had to get a hotel and uber and pay for food for an extra night without any plans. It was a horrible experience, instead of Air Canada, I was flying with United .

I had a nice flight with free wifi. So I was able to message family members and stream music during my flight, which made the trip go by fast. I also enjoyed flying on there Airbus A220. The plane looked very new and it also got up to speed fast down the runway and didn't need much runway to get airborne.

They lost my checked in luggage, why do I pay for my cargo not arriving at the same destination as me?

Overall good experience. The flight from Toronto to Denver does not have entertainment - movies to watch.

Poor planning meant the plane was delayed an hour, then a thunder storm started and the ground staff couldn't work. Eventual arrival in Santiago was 3 hours late resulting in missed connections and the need to buy new tickets.

Ensure prepaid food arrangements are appropriately understood by flight crew of who purchased and who did not
