Pros: "on time"
Pros: "The staff was very friendly and did a good job."
Cons: "The entertainment on this flight was non-existent unless you paid extra for the iPads or internet. There were no tv screens on the back of the seats, which was not very pleasant for a 9 hour flight. We tried connecting to the plane's wifi and watching movies on our phones through the Air Canada app, but the wifi was so slow that the movies never even loaded. Additionally, not every row of seats on the sides has a window, and we were in a row that had a wall instead. The plug in our row did not work either so we couldn't charge our phones with it."
Cons: "Some of the crew was a bit rude and snippy"
Pros: "The flight attendants were nice and helpful"
Cons: "The in-flight entertainment behaved extremely glitchy and even after the flight attendant reset the system it still gave me problems to work on my tablet. This really needs to be fixed as I had the same issue on my flight to Barcelona."
Pros: "Nice crew and efficient boarding."
Cons: "Exceptionally small seats and warm temperatures made overnight flights challenging. They do not offer free alocohol on international flights. But the worst part of the flight was the entertainment situation. There are no tv screens on the plane. They wait to tell you until after you've taken off that you can download the air Canada app to stream their selection of tv and movies to your personal devices. Once you do, they'll explain to you that it's really hard to get the streaming to work properly because so many people are trying to use it at the same time, but don't worry - they have preloaded iPads available ... for rent. It feels like a blatant cash grab on top of an already disappointing flight experience."
Pros: "Staff was nice"
Cons: "Way too long of a flight not to be able to recline much, stretch your legs much or get comfortable. Miserable"
Cons: "No one told us the only inflight entertainment option was streaming via their app, until we were seated on the aircraft with no access to wifi."
Cons: "Extremely dirty planes. Rude staff."
Pros: "Of the five planes we were on, all but one had comfortable seating (I'm 6'1" tall)"
Cons: "The lady helping us through the Toronto airport between flights made my wife cry. We had to stop to go to the restroom on the way to our gate, and the lady complained when I waited to go in after my wife came out. I told her I was going to do that, but she was apparently pre-occupied when I told her, because she was looking right at me when I said it. I then told her that I had let her know that was my plan, but she denied it, then told my wife she was just one of a hundred people. This left my wife in tears. This was a stain on an otherwise good flying experience, but it' tarnished the whole."
Cons: "I am filing a complaint with regard to my recent flight on Dec 31, 2016 from Barcelona (BCN) back to San Francisco, US (SFO) on Air Canada, with a connection in Toronto, Canada (Flight # AC1915 and AC739). My wife and I were denied boarding at Barcelona because we did not have an ETA to visit Canada. However, we actually qualify for the Transit Without Visa Program, allowing us to transit through Canada to the US without an ETA. Please see below. My wife and I arrived at BCN airport in Barcelona before 11 am, more than 3 hours prior to the departure time of 2 pm for flight AC1915 to Toronto. Please see the attached bus ticket as proof, indicating we boarded the bus at 10:30 am at Barcelona city center. This is more than enough time for check-in processes. I knew about the ETA requirement prior to travel. However, I also knew that, as a Taiwanese national, we qualify for the Transit Without Visa program, allowing us to transit through Canada to the US without an ETA. The Canadian Government website states that: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/visas-all.asp#eta-exemptions “The following persons are exempt from the eTA requirement: • Foreign nationals seeking to transit through Canada under Transit Without Visa or China Transit Program.” Furthermore, also on the Canadian Government website: http://www.cic.gc.ca/ENGLISH/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=1092&top=16 “Travellers whose planes refuel in Canada going to and from the United States, as well as participants in the China Transit Program and Transit Without Visa Program, do not need to have an eTA or a visa to transit Canada.” We qualify for the Transit Without Visa Program because according to the Canadian Government website: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/twov/travellers.asp • We are citizens of Taiwan • We hold valid Taiwanese passports (please see attached passport photo) • We hold valid US visas (please see attached green card photo) • We are traveling to Canada on an approved airline: Air Canada Rouge • We transit through an approved Canadian airport (Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, terminal 1, without a change of terminal between flights) • We hold a confirmed onward ticket to the US the same day (AC739 to San Francisco, departing at 6:55 pm the same day) • We arrive during operating hours for the US in-transit pre-clearance facility. During check-in, we were told that we needed an ETA and denied us boarding. I tried explaining to the supervisor on duty that day that an ETA is actually not required for us since we qualify for Transit Without Visa, using the arguments I presented above in this letter, as well as showing him the websites from the Canadian Government. However, the supervisor insisted that we needed an ETA, citing the general policy that Taiwanese citizens require ETA to visit Canada. What he did not realize was that we satisfy a very unique case that did NOT require an ETA."
Pros: "Food was good and flight attendants were very professional. Our first time flying Air Canada and I was very impressed!"
Cons: "To pay so much for a transatlantic flight and have to pay $10 for an IPad on the 8 hour trip home??? It would be nice if even limited internet was included so we could use our own device. The worse experience was getting through customs at the airport in Barcelona on the way home. Only two agents available to stamp passports on a Sunday morning when the world's largest cruise ship (Royal Caribbean Harmony of the Seas) had docked earlier that morning? We arrived at the airport at 8:30 and no Air Canada agents were available to check us in until 9:00. After waiting to get through customs and we proceeded to our gate, our 11:45 flight was just beginning to load! Lots of shoving and people cutting line to avoid being late for their flight. I heard one person mention they had missed their flight, and I'm certain many others did as well. With the chaos and delay, I'm surprised altercations didn't happen. The airports/airlines need to work with the local authorities to avoid these delays and provide their customers better service."
Pros: "Cabin was clean and got the seats I wanted."
Cons: "Cabin was understaffed. The entertainment system required their app which you have to download before you get on plane."
Cons: "We were quite disappointed when we were told there would be a delay due to mechanical issues after already boarding and being on the plane for over two hours. Imagine our distress at being trapped in a narrow seat inside the confines of a plane still sitting on the tarmac and going nowhere with very limited climate control and circulation that added even more discomfort. This level of stress was compounded by the manner in which our minimal nutritional and hydration needs were not only met but as fare paying passengers, we were teased by a meager slice of packaged and processed sliced banana bread and a mere two cups of water. This fact is especially important because it more severely impacted my father who is diabetic and it was not sufficient for him, especially at 11:44 p.m. Also because there was no communication relayed to passengers that the problem would not be resolved the second time we boarded, Air Canada agents should have recommended or handed out dinner vouchers while we were waiting in the airport after they evacuated us the first time (since everything was closed the second time we were evacuated). We were stuck on the plane for a total of 4 hours two separate times they boarded us and in between that we waited back in the airport for 2 hours; therefore a total of over 6 hours of time past the original boarding time which lead us into 1:30am of not going anywhere. Flight was rescheduled for 23 hours later! We understand the challenges of operating an airline and trying to meet schedules and the needs of the customers. Furthermore, we appreciate diligence when it applies to the safety of flying. However, the myriad problems, distress, physical and discomfort not to mention the over 23 hellish hours, was exacerbated by the following: the lack of communicaton and bad information; the paucity of empathy reflected by all Air Canada employees toward our aggregation; the measures taken to mitigate the damage inflicted to what was to be our “dream vacation” and finally the scarcity of adequate accommodation and compensation for all that we endured. We too lost one night at the Barcelona Universal Hotel worth $207, not to mention a lost vacation day worth over $600 in salary for 8 hours for us. Air Canada should be held to higher standards and more responsible for keeping up to date on their aircraft maintenance checks and regulations. There was also no specific hotel address on the voucher issued which caused us to drive to two different sheraton 4 points locations until we finally reached our destination which there was no vacancy. Luckily after lingering around in the lobby and me having to call multiple hotels to verify vacancy, one room became available and we ended up inviting another family to stay in our room that night (other Air Canada victims). We didn’t get to bed until 5am that following morning after all of that ruckus!!"
Pros: "I rented the iPad for movies and enjoyed that option much more than trying to make the in-seat touchscreen TV work on a previous flight on Air Canada."
Pros: "The boarding process onto the plane in Barcelona was excellent. I also find the Air Canada crews to be very professional and the food was good."
Cons: "The seats are very tight and the overhead bins are only large enough to hold one roll-on bag. Also you have to download an app in order to have any entertainment."
Pros: "food was fairly good. crew very nice."
Cons: "The selection of movies was poor. not enough current releases. would have liked to have an alcoholic drink for free. (one would be nice)"
Cons: "Food was terrible even for flight standards. No screens or movies shown. Had to have pre-downloaded the ap to watch movies. No wi-fi available for purchase. On one of the drink passes I was skipped."
Cons: "No leg room, narrow seats and no individual air control's. It was a surprise when they came around and offered movie rentals which they didn't do on the flight over from Toronto to Barcelona. If we fly with Air Canada another time we'll check first to make sure it isn't Air Canada Rouge before we book."
Pros: "The crew was nice"
Cons: "9 hours + flight with no entertainment and HORRIBLE food (it didn't even bit hunger). Not that it would make a difference, but the people on the back of the plane only had one choice of food instead of the usual chicken or pasta, for example."
Cons: "Didn't like not having a screen on the back of the seat in front of me, that I would have to pay $10 to rent an ipad."
Pros: "The staff was very friendly. The flight attendants were attentive and very nice."
Cons: "There wasn't much to like. They left an hour late with no explanation and forced us to run through the airport to catch our connection, they lost my baggage, the in flight entertainment was awful. The Rouge Player had no current movies or TV and the food portions were very small for a 9 hour flight."
Pros: "I had an exit row seat so the extra room was much appreciated."
Cons: "Aircanada's method of multi zone boarding is a mess. Everyone queues up and blocks whatever zones actually can get on. The seat next to the exit door was freezing. The food was horrible. I understand airplane food is bad but this is some of the worst I have had. Our flight our was fine. There was no inflight entertainment for an 8+ hour flight - you had to rent iPads which is crazy these days. We were late to takeoff due to airport traffic which isn't the airlines fault but then because the customs baggage scanning system went down at Montreal my husband missed his connection - was eventually put on my flight after two trips to ticketing and three calls to aircanada but his bag never arrived in Chicago. We are still waiting for it."
Cons: "That was a first time i saw a paid entertainment system. That was a long-haul (9 hrs) flight. Either you pay and have an iPad with movies, music etc. or nothing. Very interesting."
Pros: "Some of the cabin crew were very nice and friendly."
Cons: "It is the first international flight that do not have any television screens, music stations or any entertainment on board. Alcoholic beverages are not free! We sat in seats that cannot recline - for the whole flight from Barcelona to Toronto. Cabin crew did not keep the cabin clean. Although we flew Air Canada from Barcelona to Toronto and have not left the inside of the airport, we had to go through customs again and almost missed our flight to Atlanta due to that. Airport officials were rude; some of the crew members treated us with disrespect and not approachable. It is the worst international flight ever - even worse than some third world carriers that I used before."
Pros: "Flight was late. No device from air Canada"
Cons: "No tvs. Delays. Worst airline ever"
Cons: "The entertainment was non-existent unless you had an Apple device or paid the $10 to rent one for an hour or so. Really disappointing considering other Air Canada flights."
Cons: "* No animation screens during the flight * Available tablets but you had to pay * The electricity plugs weren't working so i couldn't recharge my computer"
Pros: "flight was smooth and on time."
Cons: "Maple Leaf Lounge at Pearson airport was shabby. We expected a bit more than soup and gherkins, but that's all that was available, except for some dry nacho chips. No electrical outlets. Indifferent staff. Shame on Air Canada! We have visited airport lounges all over the world and this was by far the worst!"
Pros: "Great boarding options...Zone 2. I love that."
Cons: "No issues on this flight....took a bit long to board, but overall it was fine. Nice crew. Your entertainment system suck!"
Pros: "We were delayed leaving Barcelona. Liked that Air Canada rebooked flights and kept us up to date on other flights with short connecting times."
Cons: "This is for Air Canada Rouge which is their low cost portion. Had outlets to charge but did not work or very slow to charge phones, no wifi available even to buy, flight attendants are young and inexperienced in handling questions about challenges. No entertainment on flights which I did not know until after my first flight to Venice with no entertainment (iPads were all rented out) or Wifi available for over eight hours. Bathrooms are old and several bathrooms did not have brighter lighting after you lock door."
Cons: "Flight was delayed nearly two hours. Gate signs were never updated. 7 gate attendants spent 1.5 hrs standing at the gate talking laughing and joking amoungst themselves. They appeared annoyed when anyone asked for an update. They finally announced they were waiting for a wheelchair to unload a passenger from the previous flight. They announced they were ready to board zone 1 and 2 and then did nothing for another 25 minutes. Funny when we finally boarded nobody ever saw a wheelchair go on or off the plane. Understand that flights are delayed but no updates or explanations and a gate crew that seemed annoyed that the passengers were disrupting their social time was unacceptable."
Cons: "My flight with Air Canada from Barcelona to the final destination of Atl was an awful experience. Our flight was delayed for no apparent reason causing my friend and I to miss our connecting flight. The Air Canada crew did re-book our connecting flight, however there was so much confusion on whether or not we had to go through customs since we landed in Montreal and our new flight was with Delta not Air Canada, that we ended up rushing through lines after lines of customs in the Montreal airport only to learn we could have avoided it all. On top of that, we were told multiple things about our baggage. To be safe we tried to go through customs and pick up our bags to be rechecked, but our bags weren't there. When we asked they said they had been put on our Delta flight, however in actuality they were stored in a closest. Needless to say, our bags did not travel with us and my friend and I had to spend hours at the Atl airport trying to locate our bags and arrange to have them flown to Atl and delivered to us. The flight itself was okay but their in flight entertainment options were awful. You either have to download the Air Canada app (which wouldnt download) or rent an Ipad for $10. The food wasn't great either. The crew members were nice but a little impatient and the bathrooms were gross. Overall, I won't fly Air Canada again."
Cons: "Food could be better"
Pros: "Everything was basically on time."
Cons: "Air canada should still give snacks like west jet."
Pros: "Good onboard entertainment"
Cons: "Overhead cabin extremely small compare to US planes"
Pros: "The flight attendants were lovely and the flight itself was fine and comfortable."
Cons: "As there were no screens on the seats, there were limited entertainment options. I was unable to download the Air Canada app before the flight due to very weak airport internet, and then was unable to rent an iPad because only credit cards were accepted: not cash or debit, or even VISA debit cards. As for boarding, the departing gate kept changing and being removed from the screen before the flight; also there was a 30 min boarding delay."
Cons: "The entertainment doesnt work well."
Pros: "The Crew´s attention"
Cons: "Is terrible that in a flight of 9 hours the airplane did not have TV programs or Films is deplorable we should rent an Ipad for enterteinment."
Pros: "It was on time"
Cons: "Food was not as good as american carriers and there were no movies. Also, no one told us that we would have to retrieve our bags and put them on belt so we had to go through line twice"
Pros: "Initially I chose Air Canada because the price was better than United. But the hassle was not worth it."
Cons: "Rouge plane was dirty. Flight attendants gave incorrect information regarding immigration forms that caused us problems after landing."
Pros: "Crew was always very happy and helpful. Came by a lot for drinks and such"
Cons: "It was really cold, even with two blankets. Sometimes hard to hear the intercom. Food is kind of iffy"
Pros: "I liked that I was able to get an aisle seat and have a decent amount of room. The food wasnt bad and there were plenty of bathrooms available on the plane."
Cons: "I missed my connecting flight due to the flight to Toronto being delayed for some reason. No other flights were available to get me to my final destination for 24 hours and the gate team doesnt report to the gate until 20 minutes til boarding time. Not much in the way of customer assistance. Zero movies available and no wifi on the planes make for a long trip to Europe from N. America."
Pros: "Seats were wide and very comfortable"
Pros: "Flight had lots of empty seats, so it was easier to get comfortable. Flight attendants were kind and helpful."
Cons: "In air entertainment is supposedly through an app, so I can't speak to the quality because by the time I was in he plane I didn't have service to download it. It makes for a pretty long flight overseas when you have no movies to occupy you."
Cons: "To have to pay for entertainment"
Pros: "I got to Montreal"
Cons: "Old plane, no entertainment, bad service"
Pros: "EXCELLENT LEG ROOM AND SPACE"
Cons: "THE FOOD SUCKS....EAT A DECENT MEAL BEFORE YOU BOARD. THANK GOD I WASNT HUNGRY OR I WOULD HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED."
