FAQs for booking Toronto to Istanbul flights

  • Should I take public transportation from the airport into Istanbul?

Taking public transportation from the airport into Istanbul is a better option for passengers who are travelling light. Although it’s the cheaper option, each one-way ticket costing ₺ 2,5 (around C$ 0.59) per person, it takes more planning than getting on a taxi or arranging a shuttle with your hotel, and it's not the most comfortable or direct trip.

  • How do I catch the metro from the airport to Istanbul’s city centre?

Follow the signs that say "light rail" from outside the baggage claim area to line M1A (red line). The metro station is about a 10min walk away from the airport. The final stop for this line in the city centre is Yenikapı. One token costs ₺ 4 (about C$ 0.95) but you need to buy a new token every time you change lines or transfer to another form of public transportation. Please note that operating hours are from 6:00 am to 11:59 pm, so if your flight from Toronto to Istanbul arrives outside of these times, you’ll need to plan for another type of transportation.

  • Can I get a private shuttle from the airport to the city centre?

If you haven’t arranged for your hotel to pick you up at the airport, you can book a private shuttle with a company like KiwiTaxi for a fixed fee before you arrive in Istanbul. Prices vary depending on what district you’re travelling to, but the fixed fares start at ₺ 120 (about C$ 29) for a trip from the airport to the Sultanahmet district. You must book online, and the driver will meet you outside the arrivals area.

  • Should I exchange currency at one of the offices at the airport?

Currency exchange fees at Atatürk International Airport are higher than anywhere else in the city. If you don’t want to use the ATMs located at the arrivals area, and can’t wait until you get into Istanbul, the supermarket at the tunnel connecting to the metro station has better exchange rates.

  • What is the cheapest flight from Toronto to Istanbul Airport?

In the last 5 days, the lowest price for a flight from Toronto to Istanbul Airport was C$ 525 for a one-way ticket and C$ 1,038 for a round-trip.

Very kind crew. Vegetarian food better than usual. Prompt take off. Entertainment worked well. Could always do with more room!

The dinner was bland and boring, but the economy seats were surprisingly comfortable. The flight was very packed.

Great crew and entertaining Captain. Seats were not what we had expected based on my booking but things worked out in the end. Of course, like all airlines these days not enough leg or elbow room.

The entertainment system was down; food by purchase only; several people did not receive their luggage. No one answers at the local office or online about the luggage.

This has been the worst experience I’ve ever had. Basically, I lost my round-trip tickets because one of my last names was missing, and you didn’t allow me to correct it. I had to purchase a full ticket again. Once I get home, I will start legal proceedings against you.

It’s ok just the boarding point is far too far

They are a sister company with Air Transat and the two companies do not work well together. If you have any issues the two companies will blame each other and you will miss your flights. The help line does not help

Flight delayed any hour and couple of big gate changes

We were unable to land in Liberia. It was not the airline’s fault, but we had to be diverted to SJO.

I sat in the club. The seeds were fantastic. The meal was great and Entertainment was good. The crew was fantastic. I recommend it to everybody.

Amazing crew, delicious food and drink selection. 12hr felt more like a 4hrs. Comfortable beds. Can’t wait for the new business class cabin

I have flown over 2million miles. Great flight but bizarre boarding process. They must have paged half the passengers to the desk for documentation check before boarding anyone. Overall great value.

Boarding was delayed for an unknown reason for more than an hour. While the airplane was at the gate, the boarding time was moved by 10-20 minutes every 15 minutes. No entertainment on the plane.

The flight itself was pleasant and on time. Crew was very good. However, breakfast food was barely acceptable. Unfortunately this satisfies the recent industry standards. I asked for a sandwich with ham (another choice was cheese), but received a sandwich with roast beef.

Boarding could've been improved a bit, the rest is excellent.

Agents helping disable person doesnt know connections to Poland and after 9 agents helping and 2hours ,we made it to proper terminal. Polish Dreamliner its Polish nightmare liner with so narrow seats and no room under front seat for bag and feet,in economy class. To upgrade, to higher standart cost an arm and leg ,even there are empty seats No good experience overall

Seats were so uncomfortable, my butt hurts so much, I wish they have more cushions,it really was horrible, Except that, Stewarts were polite food was decent

Boarding was impossible to navigate. Had mobility issues and a business class ticket, but still boarded almost at the end of the queue because there was absolutely no organization or assistance.

Together with my family, we all agreed that the LOT crew provided the most wonderful service that could be. We are grateful for such a great experience they provided to us! We will return and share our experience with all our friends and family.! Keep up the good work!

Lost my suitcase. And communication was poor. No offers of compensation for over 24 hour delay of bag

Turkish Airlines made a long flight from YVR to IST a great flying experience. From the attendants, to the food, to the entertainment program to all the extras, a twelve hour flight ‘flew by’. Late departure and arrival was not the airline’s fault.

The flight attendants were great! The seating for business class is better on other airlines. The food was also good!

Great food, great entertainment and very helpful, caring & attentive staff.

Food is getting worse. They use to be different than other airlines. Their economy classes food sucks. Stuff was very helpful.

Horrible, they forgot our luggage, the food was terrible, the crew were rude, the flight was delayed, I hated every aspect of this flight

The flight was delayed so connection was missed. In Istanbul we were taken to a hotel and no one in the hotel knew so we had to wait hours in the lobby of the hotel while the airline and hotel coordinated. The airline staff is rude at times

The checking line was very long , when checked the bags and got the boarding pass but moved fairly fast . The boarding line was long and the ground crew didn’t provide priority to kids boarding . But the air crew on the plane were very nice and polite . Too bad my daughter’s table try was broken which made the trip less enjoyable.

Food could have been hotter. More padding needed in economy seats

Was not able to check in online, so had to stand in line for 90 minutes to get a boarding pass, and I had no luggage to check. Why not let people check in in advance on line? Or at a kiosk at the airport?

seat didn't fold children noise in the air plain. no foot space

Bluetooth to use earphones with the onboard entertainment system failed. WiFi worked at least.

Pilot missed Fredericton airstrip on first go, so had to ascend again, turn around and try it again, successfully, albeit a little jittery...perhaps a new or inexperienced pilot. Not the greatest Air Canada experience. Delayed us even more.

The floor plan on the website indicated I was selecting a seat at the front of the cabin with ample leg room. In fact, I was in the row behind it. I should have wondered when the seat was free to upgrade, but it meant I traded an aisle seat three rows back for a middle seat, which was quite cramped. The Internet didn't work and the live TV didn't work until the last half hour of the trip. On a night of World Cup soccer games, not good.

Canceled my flight in March and have been waiting for 3 months now without the refund after it was promised

Smooth ride but I wish they have better food selections.

Aircraft is designed with all 3 washrooms at the back of the plane, meaning that when there is service underway, there are no washrooms available and it gets very crowded at the back of the plane.

I was through check-in right away and on the plane before I knew it perfect in every way

Excellent flight crew. Very comfortable plane. Entertainment options on air Canada were great!

Flight was oversold. Seats assigned to multiple passengers. Delay 1 hour to sort out.

Greetings to all the employees, they were very kind and welcoming. Excellent pilot, thank you for your efforts

Need thicker and wider blankets. Food was below standard especially in the fist leg.

Decrepit planes, poor business class layout designed to maximize revenue, no decent movie selection.

Boarding was efficient. Flight left on time. Wasn’t full so we could spread out a bit. Food was ok.

Business class to Istanbul. Packed flight. Cabin crew seemed incapable of differentiating between economy and business passengers with regard to access to the WC which meant whole flight I had people standing in aisle and leaning into my aisle seat, queueing for the front WC. Crew put it down to a lack of curtain between the two classes. The seats, for a 3hrs55 min flight were just standard seats with middle seat unoccupied. So nothing special apart from the food, which was mediocre. Aside from the roast chicken dinner (‘special’ traditional British menu option, which looked poor but tasted good I gather). However 2 king prawns does not make a main course salad.

we departed 5 hours late. Instead of 10pm it was after 2AM and the business lounge thew us out at 1AM and everyone was standing around the boarding gates. When we did board, the crew was nice, served dinner and then was not to be seen again until we landed. No breakfast (which is not great for diabetes)

Terrible. Missed my flight to final destination because of delayed British Airways flight. Had to spend 12 hours in airport and $1500 for new plane tickets

I asked for a wheelchair. I have a back health condition. I had to walk a lot

Boarding = No one respected the boarding groups. The ground crew did nothing to enforce the boarding system. What is the point of being a Gold member when there are no benefits to that? Tired old plane

The flight and the staff was excellent. Only bad thing is no entertainment and you have to pay for anything other than water.

Flight departed 45 mins late Crew great Food items missing from breakfast
