Cabin staff are friendly and efficient. The seating is about the same as on every other airline. I was in steerage for the Mexico City - San Jose leg. A lady was seated in my window seat when I boarded, and seemed surprised when I insisted on reclaiming my seat (She had the middle seat). In contrast to Mexico City, the San Jose airport is a model of efficiency. Immigration is rapid, luggage comes out on the carousel in good time, and best of all there is a duty free shop right in the luggage claim area, so it is unnecessary to buy liquor ahead of time."
Cons: "Mexico City is a terrible airport to have to pass through. Everyone has to go through Immigration (similar to US airports in that regard) even if just in transit. However, they have few officers there, and almost half of the available booths weren't even manned. The result was chaos, with the immigration hall filled with grouchy travellers, and other travellers stuck in aircraft waiting to disembark. Expect to be stuck in Immigration for a minimum of an hour after landing; maybe plan on 1 1/2 hours just to get through Immigration and Customs. And if you are making a connection, whatever you do don't go through the sliding doors on the other side of Customs - I made that mistake once! I speak Spanish, so the following comments are not coloured by language difficulties ... Security staff are unfriendly. While there is supposed to be free wifi in the departure lounge, I couldn't figure out how to use it. A gate agent told me there wasn't any free wifi, all the time standing beside a sign that said there was. I was also singled out for a spot check of my hand luggage right in the jetway. The unfriendly lady doing that search so disarranged my stuff that I couldn't find my Kindle when I got on the plane, so was without my planned reading material."

Primitive and time-consuming transportation system between terminals- Had to ride overcrowded buses packed with so many people that your body was pressed against your neighbor. Inadequate number of restrooms and poor signage to find them. Bad selection of restaurants. Then at the terminal, boarding time listed as 10:40, but they did not even announce the boarding gate until 10:40. Then a 10 minute ride on another overcrowded bus to the plane which you had to board by a staircase (and a staircase to the door on a 747 is no small thing!) Although flight was smooth in the air, the pilot landed so "hard" I thought the landing gear must have been damaged!"

Pros: "I fly a lot between North America and Southeast Asia (usually on SQ). My BA flight was a perfectly acceptable long distance flight for a song, so that its best aspect was the low price. It was much better than any US airline's flight to SE Asia that I have been on from time to time, and was a solid B to B+ against the standard SQ A to A-. I flew from Singapore to Charlotte with no issues, then returned two days after their IT disaster in a half empty airplane. I expect they continue to discount while they try to rebuild their brand, so I suspect this kind of flight stays quite a good value for the next year or so."

Waited 20 min only to hear a bunch of lies about how they asked the flight attendant to look but she couldn’t find it - should have just walked back on plane to do it myself. Was told to “go online” and file a lost and found report. This is a small airport - TRI cities TN - absolutely zero customer focus by and American Airline employee - and I asked to sp all with a supervisor and manager with the hope I would get my phone back. Worst service and zero caring attitude I’ve dealt with - and I fly a lot. It will be Delta from here on out. I went on line and filed a complaint and lost and found report - am betting a large amount of money I hear nothing other than an automated reply."

Pros: "All flights to Toronto were delayed due to weather, which really wasn’t bad, but these things happen. The crew, however, weren’t empathetic at all. When it came to food, they ran out and again their empathy was quite lacking. Air Canada really needs to step up their people skills. They will lose customers to airlines that demonstrate that they care (eg WestJet) if they keep this up. This is not an isolated experience for me. They have lost us as a customer. I won’t fly Air Canada again if I have other options, and I’m willing to pay more for the same flight just to avoid them."

She just stood there and if you asked a question she gave you the wrong answer. In Newerk we had to wait 2 hours for our bags. The man st the AC office had no idea why the bags were not coming and could not get someone to tell him and emotionally dithered and then fell apart. I will avoid travelling on AC again if I can. Worst flight ever. They did not have enough food on board either. At least the pilots were competent."
Pros: "They seemed like a good airline. It was my first time flying with them, and I got upgraded to business class on the very first flight of my trip. What a great first impression! They're quite service oriented, with attendants speaking multiple languages. The in-flight magazine was good but not available on every plane. The food was usually pretty good, and the live map was convenient."
Cons: "All of the flights were late (I had 6 of them on this trip, all thru Air Canada, and not a single one departed on time). All of my layovers were long, except one, which was planned to be about an hour but ended up being less than 30min. That one was a pain: had to go through Canadian customs and then run across the Toronto airport, but thankfully my next flight was still boarding - and ended up running late because they had to de-ice the plane. One of the flights ran late, and as we were reaching the gate a passenger felt the need to yell racist/ignorant comments at a fellow passenger who wouldn't sit down, and then the flight attendant - overall that was a real shame."
Cons: "Ended up missing this connecting flight to Calgary . Our plane left 45 minutes late from Phoenix because of a gas spill so when we got to Vancouver from Phoenix, we had to go through customs which took extra time. When we first landed in Vancouver and before we even got off the plane, we had 5 minutes to board onto our next flight which obviously was not going to happen. We rushed through customs and still might have been able to board our flight at the last possible minute except the staff at the airport led us to somehow get out of the secure area and have to go through security again before going to our gate. That took so much extra time. This never should have happened. When you get off the plane and have a connecting flight, there is always a way to get to the gate to board without having to go through security again. When we finally made it to our gate for our connecting flight, our plane had left and we were told to go to the air canada service desk. There was about 10 to 15 of us that had missed our connecting flight because of this so the 2 staff at the desk were trying to help us all but had to wait for their manager to come and confirm they could give us another flight which took quite a bit longer than I thought. We ended up getting booked on standby on a flight straight from Vancouver to Saskatoon in 2 hours which was our final destination, but never was told that because of all this headache, we should have grabbed our luggage. We thought our luggage was going to go on without us on the flight we missed but apparently if you do not get on your flight they don’t send your bags which makes sense. We also had thought for a second that maybe our luggage didn’t go on the flight from Vancouver to Calgary but if it didn’t then someone would most likely put it on the flight to Saskatoon. We should have asked about it but they should also have mentioned it when we were in a panic. And I understand you can’t put extra people on a flight that is booked, but what if the plane we were on standby for was full and we had to wait even longer .. could have taken us a day to get home when this wasn’t our fault we missed our flight, but was air Canada’s."

After a confusing conversation from the officer not understanding that I was not travelling to France ( assumption) I was asked to show evidence I had the right to enter UK !!!! I explained I lived there permanently ; I was then asked why French hate English so much!!! To which I explained only narrow minded people would believe so and that the style of her comment were not appropriate . I explained my children were half French half British and that her comment was offensive ."

I had to find & clear customs before I could even go to my gate. Getting thru customs was like being in a maze. I showed my passport 4 times in the process & finally someone helped me to fill out the electronic form. I made it to my gate in the nick of time just as they were ready to close the door. They radioed ahead to let 2 more people on that plane. Then I get on and someone is sitting in the seat that I previously purchased. The flight attendant didn't make them move either. Air Canada's practices suck! I will never fly Air Canada again."
Cons: "This review is about Air Canada from Los Angeles to Vancouver. Our flight was cancelled the flight for technical reason, without a notice. We found out when we got to the airport with four children. We were put on a later flight that also left Los Angeles later than the scheduled time. We arrived to Vancouver so late that we could not make the latest BC Ferry to Victoria that left at 9:00 pm. We lost our hotel reservation in Victoria. We were stranded in Vancouver till we could find a hotel that cost us an extra $600 (US dollars), an extra reservation for the ferry and lost a precious half a day of our vacation. When we complained about this wasted time and money Air Canada did not utter not even a clear simple apology. It offered a lousy discount on our next flight with the company, believing that we may ever use such an uncaring company"

Food was the worse I have had on any flight. I would rather pay and have something edible. On 2 of my 3 flights the staff were so wrapped up in there own life's, they did not manage to finish the safety checks before taking there seat. Overall a poor experience."
Cons: "Air Canada offers this flight DAILY. Yet somehow the boarding was the most excruciating tedious I’ve had to endure. Passengers who needed assistance boarding seemed to have to deal with haphazard organisation, and the fact that they seemed surprised so many people brought carry-on luggage that the bins filled up is laughable. Changed my return flight to Alaska Air."
Cons: "This flight was delayed by 45 minutes which made me miss my connecting flight. I asked the flight attendants if they could help me get to the front of the plane to see if I could catch my connecting flight and they wouldn't help me. Due to this I had to wait over 4 and a half hours at the airport wheee another 350 people were waiting for accommodations. I was in the airport until 4:30 in the morning because there weren't enough air cansas representatives. In addition, they were working really slowly because they kept getting up to chat with eachother."

Cons: "Instructions on Air Canada's website when you Google "how early should you get to the airport flying Canada to USA" say you should get there 3 hours ahead of time. For a 6:40 flight I got to the airport at 3:40, as instructed, and checkin wasn't even open. Per Air Canada's website "You should arrive at the airport three (3) hours before your flight's scheduled departure time. Pre-board security screening for departures to the U.S. opens at 3:00 AM. Exception: 20 minutes for flights departing from Toronto City Airport (YTZ)." Check in staff told me I should have gotten there 2 hours ahead. This is very conflicting. Considering I was heading to a 10 hour trade show, believe me that hour of sleep I lost between 2:30 when I had to get up for this flight and 3:30 when I could have gotten up sure was missed. Correct and consistent instructions to passengers go a long way."

Cons: "Seated beside a young child with behavioral problems. Father mostly slept. Child stood on seat and jumped up and down, crawled under seats, threw ipad on my foot repeatedly, spilled his drink all over himself and his seat, screamed whenever his seat belt had to go on or his table top couldn't be down. At one point, the dad lost his temper, swore at the child, and covered him with a blanket in a big screaming match before doing up his seat belt--I was afraid he had smothered him but it had the effect of calming him down. No attendant even tried to intervene apart from asking "can I see your kid's boarding pass?" People should have to disclose when they are travelling with a child with severe behavioural problems and attendants should rescue anyone forced to sit beside one or at least make the parent care for the child. Also, a minimum of crackers or pretzels would be nice with drink on 5-hour flight. The entertainment system wasn't operating correctly and kept having to be reset by crew or reset itself. And, after first class etc. board, why don't they board the people at the back of the plane first, not the ones at the front? It took forever because people in front zones hadn't settled into their seats before people from the back zones tried to board."

Cons: "Rouge Flight entertainment does not even come close to any other carriers entertainment system. Additionally, if you have a PC your're out of luck. It only works with IOS. Funny, it took me over an hour to find this out prior to the flight. The ground crew were all clueless if I could use my PC. I could have used my Smart Phone but it's kinda on the small side to watch a full length movie and drain my battery to 0. The Air Canada website was equally not helpful. I had to purchase their Ipad rental for $10 Canadian Dollars in order to watch a movie. Funny, they only had maybe 12-15 movies to choose from. Additionally, the bathrooms were disgusting and had broken parts everywhere. Flight was filthy. Looks like their just trying to scramble turning their flights around. I felt sorry for the people waiting in Honolulu for their flight back to Vancouver. Shame on you Air Canada. Time to upgrade your fleet please. You need to have better cleaning crews and definitely upgrade your Rouge Player system to accept PC's."

Cons: "Customs detained my girlfriend and I for an hour causing us to supposedly miss our flight. We spoke to a Air Canada Rep and they told us our flight had left and they couldn't hold it for us. That is fine but they said they would not provide us with a hotel for missing this. Ok that is there policy but we ran to the terminal E95, for our Flight to Portland which had actually had not left and they were actually holding it for another person. So Air Canada lied about our flight leaving and that there was not another one till the next day. Overall I will never go to this airport nor will I use Air Canada ever again."

I was asked to take my headphones off during the safety speech, which I did. I put them back on after the speech and was yelled at. The lady in front of me had a dog. The lady across from me was talking on her cell phone. And the kids behind me were playing games on their iPad with no headphones and the sound on. No one said anything to them. Screw this airline."

Cons: "YVR airport's Air Canada staff was extremely unprofessional. First, they cancelled my original itinerary and moved me to a flight 3 hours later. Now I understand it was holidays so I was okay thus far. I got to the airport 2 hours before the departure time and even though I had check-in online, I was requested to get into "Check-in assistance" line instead of the "baggage drop". The "Check-in assistance" line had multiple people rebooking their flights when at the counter (on an average each person was being held for 15 minutes by the slow staff). By the time I reached the counter, I was told that the gate had been closed and I will have to rebook. The staff said at that point that it was "just the way it is" and their terms and conditions have this clause saying they don't guarantee people will be boarded. Well, sure, don't board them if they're late but don't delay them on purpose and then strike them off the boarding list. Very Very disappointed."

They have a fully booked flight and instead of making people with hard case luggage check them they crowd them in on the same flight where there are delays trying to get peoples luggage to fit into the bins. Also through the 4 Air Canada flights flight attends were constantly running down the aisle and hitting customers shoulders and not apologizing. it was also disruptive when people were trying to sleep (these were the 3 flights going to hawaii through calgary and vancouver and then back through vancouver. Probably will not fly with Air Canada again till corporate starts considering clients."

Cons: "On the flight from Portland to Vancouver, someone was allowed to board the plane and then leave, with no explanation, no accompaniment, and no way of contacting him. Consequently, our flight was delayed 3 hours while police and bomb squads checked the plane and all the baggage. Why was this person allowed to disembark in the first place? This occurred during boarding, so there should have been attendants there to stop him or at least ask him where he was going. And once he did disembark, why was no one able to track where he went? Seems like an odd security breach and, ultimately, a huge inconvenience for the passengers who remained on the plane."
Pros: "The flight was good and the attendants on it were nice. Wasn't too uncomfortable and in flight entertainment was pretty decent."
Cons: "We were delayed over an hour which in itself is okay as I understand flights get delayed and these things happen but the way in which the staff controlled the situation was horrible. They made multiple announcements making it sound like certain groups should go to the counter to be boarded (children, people needing assistance etc..) yet when these groups of people showed up at the counter the staff acted irritable saying they would need to wait their turn and that they havent even started boarding yet. This led to massive confusion and a huge pile up of people at the counter."

Cons: "Both dinner and breakfast were so bad as to be a joke. Tasteless chicken on pasta with a miserable little salad for dinner. Breakfast far worse, the 'continental breakfast' being a slice of banana loaf or something similar in plastic film and a pathetically small yoghurt. Crew didn't even serve pour row coffee or tea, totally overlooked us. My next flight was with SAA to Johannesburg - infinitely better food and attitude. Not that I expect this eeview to make any imnpression on Air Canada. THey are beyond help and frankly I don't care as I won't fly with them again."
Pros: "Comfortable, well maintained aircraft. Good entertainment. Friendly crew. Boarding process was well conceived. They separated seating zones into different queues, and turned back people who attempted to board out of order."

The crew seemed to have trouble responding to things like...people using restrooms late during the descent, passengers making themselves a little too "at home" and thereby disturbing their neighbors, and repeated chimes due to an errant elbow on a call button...the little things. They are things you don't notice when a crew is highly attentive, as you find on Cathay Pacific, Lufthansa, or Air New Zealand. The crew were friendly, but not quite in charge."

Cons: "The in flight entertainment is a joke, it's a 14 hour flight so why are there only 3 episodes of any tv show? The food was inedible, and beverages were limited to 3 choices coffee, water or juice. I was trying to sleep on the plane but every time a flight attendant would walk past me they would run into me (and I was very much within my seat) and wake me up. They also woke me up to ask if I wanted food twice. The seats were so uncomfortable. I'm an able bodied 20 something and if I am in this much physical pain from flying I can't imagine what an elderly person must feel like after flying Air Canada. The pillow that was provided gave me no comfort what so ever, it wasn't think enough to even offer some back support."

Yesterday, the flight was again delayed for 90 minutes while mechanical repairs were needed. Several people missed connections. It is making me think that I cannot trust the timing of your flights and as I am going to Paris through Montreal on Sept. 25th, I feel I should change my flight to give myself more time to make my flight to Paris. I currently have 1 hour and 5 minutes to make the flight. Do you think I should change my flight and will I be charged for it. Please advise."

Cons: "if i knew the name of the man i talked to at checkin i would make a complaint specifically about him. i lost my passport a few days before coming home and went to the united states consulate where they told me to bring a printed copy of my passport and the united states boarding patrol would let me back into the united states. the man at the checkin didn't want to let me through to even speak to the united states border patrol and told me the consulate was wrong. i almost missed my flight because of his stubborn arrogance. once past him i was able to explain what happened and show what identification I had and everyone was very nice to me."
