Upon arrival in TPA we found the Advantage desk was closed and nearby car rental agencies said that Advantage had been closed for more than two months although we had received no notification. We called the phone number listed on our reservation only to be directed to a call center that could neither help us obtain a rental car with another agency nor assist us in any way. Advantage appears to be a scam and Kayak should not make any reservations with them.Reviewed 28 Feb. 2022

My reservation number was NPRL8BADE5 The experience was actually less than POOR. It was awful. I had my reservation for a four day minivan rental from Tampa and back to Tampa . Saturday, Feb 19 - Wednesday, Feb 23 , 8am . I went to the Advantage booth to pick up my minivan at 8am on Feb 19 ........ AND THERE WAS NO ONE WORKING AT THE ADVANTAGE BOOTH. Basically, it was closed. Another worker from ACE rent a car came over and said........."Advantage has been closed for a while now." WHAT ???? I called the Advantage toll free number. The receptionist said she was going to call the local Tampa number and I waited on HOLD. After a few minutes, she came back and said ........"nobody answered, can you try the 800 number back in 10 minutes?" I said........"I'm here. There's no one here." And, I then took another half hour and proceeded to go past every rental agency in the airport and (being a school holiday week)......they were all "sold out." I had booked my rental van on July 6, 2021. That would be over 7 months ahead of time. So, my question is ..........should I NOT use Advantage Car Rental again ? Or, should I NOT use Kayak again ? Advantage never showed up at 7 a.m. at the desk in Tampa. Ace Rental took my reservation at 7. They got into Advantage's computer. The car's transmission started having problems half way through the drive from Tampa Airport to my destination in Ft. Myer's. I called Ace, they called back and asked if I wanted a tow truck to tow me back. I said no as the car somehow readjusted itself when I turned it off and restarted it. Then I continued on the highway, and the transmission started having trouble again. I could only go 40 in a 70 mph zone. It was dangerous. Advantage said I did not show up for my rental. I said yes, but Ace took it over. I was told that was not possible. It was. The check engine light turned on. I sat for 30 minutes on a road off of the highway. I was told people would call me. They did not. I drive 30 mph to get to my sister's house with noises under the car. I finally made it to my sister's house. Later that evening, a tow truck dropped off a different car and took that one. The man could barely drive the car up onto the truck. He has to back it up and gun it. What should have taken me 2 hrs and 10 minutes took 5.5 hours. I understand that cars have mechanical issues. But it was the lack of communication and failure to take responsibility by the staff that was the most troublesome. I am considering challenging the charge on the car with the company because of the personal danger I was in on the highway, and the stress/amount of time it took to get to Ft. Myers. The first car had a front end shake at 44 mph and I had to drive it back over the bridge. Very unsafe and scary!!!! Advantage should have sent someone to pick this car up from me. This could have become a serious liability. I was not offered anything for the inconvenience and safety. Very dissatisfied!Reviewed 4 Aug. 2021

Pros:Staff during the check-in process was great. The lady at the counter was very friendly.Cons:Getting the care was different. Unfortunately, Advantage didn't have any staff there and one of the other companies was handling their vehicles. The poor guy was flying solo while handling his company and Advantage. To top it off the first car had an issue with the seat and they had to get another car cleaned and to me, which added about 20-minutes. Also, if you can update the information on the site to show that the pickup location is in TPA's Rental Car Center. It shows an off-site location and I was momentarily lost until someone pointed me in the right direction.Reviewed 28 Jun. 2021

Pros:Staff at the counter was not very friendly. Charged me a $150 deposit. When will that be returned?Cons:The sign for the counter at the Tampa airport is not very clear. We followed the signs and it led down to the garage and had to go back up to get the keys.Reviewed 20 Apr. 2021
