Pros:The people were nice.Cons:The price advertised was no where near what I had to spend. I arrived late in the evening so I had no choise but to spend $700 more than advertised. I was told I would receive a deposit within 48 hours which I still have not been given.Reviewed 13 Aug. 2016

Avoid them at ALL COSTPros:Absolutely nothingCons:Had a reservation for $57 but when we arrived the Economy agent quickly pointed to the FINE PRINT on my conformation email which he then indicated that I was REQUIRED to get their insurance and pay a $5000 deposit plus an additional $445 for the car rental itself... Needless to say I DID NOT RENT FOR THEM, and you shouldn't either... ThanksReviewed 5 Apr. 2016

Be weary of EconomyCons:They are very dishonest with the way they price their cars. The base price you are quoted online means NOTHING. You have to buy mandatory insurance. Our base was around $400 for 11 days and then $370 for mandatory insurance. Yes, Costa Rica does make you get mandatory car insurance but Economy is only paying the INS (car insurance gov agency) $2 a day and we had to pay $33 a day for insurance!!! Be cautious when doing business with them.Reviewed 10 Jan. 2018

Cons:$17.50 USD quote got transformed to $370 USD total with "insurance". Without it, they refused to rent out. PS: just noticed the other reviews, should've read them before using them.Reviewed 7 May 2016

Cons:The cost of insurance was too High. 100 $ par day just for the insurance is unacceptable. And we bas To pay that during 35 days....Reviewed 20 Feb. 2019

Terrible experience - never again Economy Rent a CarCons:At the counter I was asked to pay 300$ extra minimum to pick up the car. (i was also proposed another option to pay 500$ with full insurance coverage) to get my car. I refused to pay extra charges as total charge was provided by Kayak.com through Pricelist.com and additional extra insurance by Allianz. Car was not rented and the Officer in charge (Dennis) was very arrogant. I was left without car with my family 10km from the airport.Reviewed 26 Mar. 2018

Hidden Insurance Fee of $20/dayPros:Drop off was easy, and the airport shuttle took us as soon as we were ready.Cons:Didn't like the hidden "mandatory $20/day insurance fee in Costa Rica" even though we elected for insurance through Allianz. The car was $14/day, and the insurance was $20/day?!?Reviewed 10 Mar. 2016

Third Party TaxPros:The car was reliable. We got the smallest car, it did the job, no complaints.Cons:We thought we were getting a car rental for $35 for 8 days. We thought this was a sweet deal. Well when you actually get there and they tell you that there is a third party insurance that is mandatory by the government, it is no longer a sweet deal. I would have appreciated this information at the time of reserving the car. Also, if you deny the insurance as I did because I have insurance through my credit card, they will put a $3000 hold on your card. We ended up paying $245 for 8 days, which all in all not that bad, but when you think you are getting a car for $35, you feel blindsidedReviewed 5 Apr. 2016

More than three times the quoted amountPros:The car we ended up with was fine. The shuttle service to and from the airport was easy and friendly.Cons:We got off the flight 2 hours later than planned, and they didn't honor our reservation price. They waited until far into the paperwork process and after we'd already shuttled far from the airport to give us a quote because they no longer had the type of car we wanted, and we were forced to get an SUV for several hundred dollars more than our original quote. They also pressured us hard for insurance, and the girl kept threatening that the law-required insurance wasn't actually okay. Not a good experience.Reviewed 30 Dec. 2015

Cons:Unlike renting a car through Southwest Airlines, you charged a cancelation fee and no show fee if it's not cancelled at least 24 hours in advance. And charged me $25 even though I asked you to remove that fee. I was trying out your car rental for the first time, since I regularly rent from Southwest because of their super easy and super convenient csncelation policy. I will go back to them and will never rent from Economy again. You got $25 from me once, but have lost my business forever as a consistent business and world traveler.Reviewed 14 Dec. 2015

Costa Rica scamPros:NothingCons:Arrived at the kiosk inside the terminal and was told that my reservation was voided because my arrival was an hour late (my departure was delayed in Miami due to weather) My question to Economy : why do you bother asking for flight information if you don't care to use it! Just because my flight is delayed does not imply I no longer need the car! The reason they voided the reservation was because they could rent it for much more than the rate they quoted through KAYAK. I ended up paying twice as much for the car because of their non existent customer service and unprofessional business practices, a warning to anyone traveling to Costa Rica and renting a car from "Economy"it is almost always cheaper to hire a taxi than to pay $100 per day and drive yourself. The Costa Rican rental car insurance requirements are criminal. I have travelled to Costa Rica since 1979 and will never rent a car from Economy again.Reviewed 9 Mar. 2016
