Professional service, great gas optionPros:Good service. Used option to buy tank of gas in advance, with option of refund if tank returned full. Great idea.Cons:The person at counter was sweet and pleasant but didn't know (or seem to care) how printer worked!Reviewed 28 Jun. 2016

Not informing us of feesPros:Quick and easy return, well done.Cons:The person at the counter added my wife as a driver ran the credit card and then notified us that it would be an additional daily fee. When we asked to reverse it she said that we lose our reservation and have to rebook it at whatever the current rate was. We said to do it and we were going to call to see if that was in fact the case. She then said they could reverse the charge but it would take a long time. After reversing the charge we looked at the bill and it was still about $30 over what we were quoted in the reservation. There was an "optional" tire warranty fee that we had taken off and then it was the amount we had been quoted. It's unacceptable to me to add additional fees without even acknowledging it to the customer. We ended up getting a great vehicle at the price quoted so it all worked out, but the sales approach for upgrades was really unnerving to my wife and me, and we are likely going to add Payless rentals to our no go list.Reviewed 11 Nov. 2016

Pros:Not a thing.Cons:A rental car location at an international airport that is only open between 10am and 6pm... Just let that sink in and then extrapolate to all of the other areas this company could fail, because they do indeed fail in all of the other areas. It is actually impossible to reach anyone at the counter of this location, even if you do call during their limited business hours. Try calling that location and entering the option for lost and found and you'll be taken to some scam line while entering other valid options will actually hang up on you. The list goes on and on. I won't ever be renting from this company again.Reviewed 22 Dec. 2020

Pushy salesmanPros:Easy drop offCons:Geoffry~I believe was our sales rep and he was AWFUL!! He tried to sell us 1. insurance 2. gas He claimed that Washington state was DIFFERENT than every state in the US and if we had any body damage, we would be charged for all days the car was out of service. I declined, as USAA covers me. He also tried to convince me to pay ahead for gas, then bring my gas reciepts to the lower level after my rental to recieve a reimbursement on my gas! ? what? He also told me that Payless offered a competitive gas price of $3.69, when gas was $2.85 in the area. He became very hostile and aggressive, my son was uncomfortable with the whole transition. I had a Kayak reservation and told him to honor it, and he was angry about that!! AWFUL! it was a terribly uncomfortable exchange for what I thought would be a simple car pick up. I am 53 years old, and have never witnessed this open dishonesty at a car rental. Shame on Payless.Reviewed 8 Dec. 2015

Cons:If YOUR website or their website had warned me that the pick up time is now extremely important due to COVId I’d have been more accurate. As it was no one was there for 35 minutes upon arrival.Reviewed 8 Sep. 2020

Check the final price on your statementCons:The representative did not have our car size in and gave us a larger car. Then he tried to charge us a much higher price than the price I was suppose to be originally charged. Good thing I checked the statement before we left the counter! Make sure to check your statement!!! Also, another problem we had was that the guy told us we would get a certain car, but when we went to get our car, he had given us another car which we had told him we didn't want. Had to go back to the counter and have the representative correct the mistake he made.Reviewed 29 Mar. 2017

Cons:Would never, ever recommend or use Payless Car Rental again! If I could give it a 0, I would. They didn't have car ready and said we could wait 2-3 hours until one came in if we wanted. They did have an upgrade available but said it would cost us an extra $100. Unbelievable! After getting nowhere with them, finally went to another company (with no help from them) and got a car. 3 hours later we finally drive out in a car!!! Absolutely worst customer service and company I have ever encountered!Reviewed 2 Jan. 2017

Did not honor reservationCons:The attendant did not honor the reservation even when I showed him the confirmation and the price for a full size vehicle. He instead questioned me on what time I made the reservation and said that priceline reservations would take up to three hours to show up in his system. He refused to help me on the reservation instead trying to quote me an SUV which I did not want. He told me to try somewhere else and that I would not find anything for the price I showed him on my reservation. He insisted that the other rental companies would tell me the same thing because it was snowing outside and they would raise their prices. He was very rude. I asked him for his name and he said Joe. I told him I would follow up on it.. he said go ahead. Never had this happen before. Payless at the rental car center Seatac. Incident at 2.30 pm , 11/5/2017. I did find a full size car for about the price quoted on my initial reservation with another company.Reviewed 7 Nov. 2017

No carsCons:Upon getting to the airport with a reservation for a rental car I waited in a long line to be placed upon a 15-person waiting list for a car as the company had no cars available at that time. My name and number was taken and I was told there was no way of knowing when cars would become available, but they would call me to let me know when they had a car for me. I ended up just going to a different rental car company where I did not have a reservation and paying more than my reservation was for. But they had cars and prices were fair I thought. So I would recommend Thrifty!Reviewed 4 Sep. 2016

Don't bother.Pros:Not much I liked! The car got us around, so that's good.Cons:I made the reservation in my name, wanted to switch it over to my boyfriend's when we paid which I've done with every car rental company. They would not let us change the reservation name claiming employees give reservations away and it is being monitored. However - I was standing there with my ID and credit card and could not transfer. So instead, we had to pay to add an extra person. (Reservations were closed for the day - so we couldn't cancel and rebook.) - fine. Policy. I get it. So we had to pay an extra $13 a day for an extra driver. Then, we were told there was only one car left in their entire lot that fit our reservation. It was a VW Bug. We wanted trunk space to put our luggage out of sight. So we had to upgrade to a higher class for an extra $16? a day. Okay - getting to be a little less fine. Then, we go downstairs to pick up our keys. Our car was FILTHY. It looked like someone drove it through a muddy dust storm. There were blackberries all in the grooves of the trunk and the roof of the car was covered in tree debris. The inside wasn't dirty and we wanted to begin our vacation and definitely didn't want to deal with the women upstairs who seemed to be ripping us off every chance she got - so we just took the car out. The car showed low tire pressure on our way back to dropping it off before our flight out. We get gas at the gas station less than a mile from the rental car place, fill it till it clicks, drive it back to Payless and it says a gallon is missing. Of course we didn't grab our receipt because we didn't think about it and got charged an extra $10 for the missing gas. This car and its terrible customer service was not worth the money spent. I will never waste my time with this company! Save your vacation - book elsewhere.Reviewed 27 Jul. 2017

Failed to keep their promise to waive feesPros:The car was relatively clean. That's about the only good thing.Cons:The service was outrageously frustrating. Upon pickup, which took more than half an hour, the total come up as around $200 more than the quote I got online because of all sorts of fees and surcharges. The employee promised, and wrote on the contract, that the manager would waive the extra fees and change the final cost to the same as the online quote. However, when I returned the rental, they told me that it was impossible to waive the fees and end up charging me the extra $200. I highly discourage anyone who wants to have a good rental experience to use Payless.Reviewed 2 Mar. 2017
