Then they came out to answer the phone and said we were 10 minutes past the cut off and we could not fly."

Cons: "People may think,that the delay of the flight has set my mood for this review but I can ensure it has most definitely not. With all the bad weather, I was already very happy to connect right on time in Paris. However, a long haul A380 flight with such a tight seat configurstion is almost embarrassing for an airline. The in flight entertainment is at a very poor level, not only with the screen being very small and outdated, many of the movies are only available in French and the international selection very limited. The food was not much of a delight, whereas the presentation was nice. However, in all the 7 h between the services, nobody came around with refreshments in a completely booked flight, neither was announced that a trolly would be set for self service in the galley. Lucky the ones who got up and found out about. In terms of amenities, again, the airline is lacking of originality and saves cost. Bottom line: you get from A to B, but there are so many better competitors in the market, which I shall definitely consider on my next travel."
Pros: "The food was pretty good and the staff were friendly. During our transfer in Paris, my mum had a medical emergency and had to go to the medical centre. As such wr couldnt go to our final destination in Morocco and had to get our luggage off the plane. The staff at the AF counter were very helpful in that aspect. And when one of the luggages was completely damaged, it was replaced it with a brand new one which was fantastic. On the way back, we had some issues with the ticket because we didnt go to Morocco as planned which resulted in some trouble checking in. But the staff at the counter were quite helpful."

Cons: "Disorganized uninformed staff. One says I have to have an additional "random" security check after going through the same thing in security. Turns out it wasn't random and I didn't need it. Both times they read my boarding pass wrong thought I was going to Tel Aviv - not random. Airport was hot as hell! Flight kept getting delayed then we had a gate change as well. Finally got on the plane and it took forever to take off so we were basically sitting in a sauna for 30+ minutes."

The pilot missed the first landing, was going too fast and had to turn around. We circled the London eye 3 times. When we were actually landing it was extremely bumpy and on the way down the plane was tilting back and forth a lot. They were going too fast when we landed as well, I have never been in a plane that has landed so poorly, and I have travelled a lot and used many different airlines. It was worse than any budget airline I've been on. As we were driving back to the terminal, the pilot stopped short for some reason. Things were not explained clearly. I will not be flying with airfrance again and will be sure to spread the word of this awful experience."

Should have waited a little longer at 1st de-icing so we could have left in allotted time period (20 minutes after application). Which resulted in many passengers missing connection flights (myself included) with as much as a “We are sorry” from Air Canada. I know the weather was an issue, but wasn’t sole cause."

Cons: "Ended up missing this connecting flight to Calgary . Our plane left 45 minutes late from Phoenix because of a gas spill so when we got to Vancouver from Phoenix, we had to go through customs which took extra time. When we first landed in Vancouver and before we even got off the plane, we had 5 minutes to board onto our next flight which obviously was not going to happen. We rushed through customs and still might have been able to board our flight at the last possible minute except the staff at the airport led us to somehow get out of the secure area and have to go through security again before going to our gate. That took so much extra time. This never should have happened. When you get off the plane and have a connecting flight, there is always a way to get to the gate to board without having to go through security again. When we finally made it to our gate for our connecting flight, our plane had left and we were told to go to the air canada service desk. There was about 10 to 15 of us that had missed our connecting flight because of this so the 2 staff at the desk were trying to help us all but had to wait for their manager to come and confirm they could give us another flight which took quite a bit longer than I thought. We ended up getting booked on standby on a flight straight from Vancouver to Saskatoon in 2 hours which was our final destination, but never was told that because of all this headache, we should have grabbed our luggage. We thought our luggage was going to go on without us on the flight we missed but apparently if you do not get on your flight they don’t send your bags which makes sense. We also had thought for a second that maybe our luggage didn’t go on the flight from Vancouver to Calgary but if it didn’t then someone would most likely put it on the flight to Saskatoon. We should have asked about it but they should also have mentioned it when we were in a panic. And I understand you can’t put extra people on a flight that is booked, but what if the plane we were on standby for was full and we had to wait even longer .. could have taken us a day to get home when this wasn’t our fault we missed our flight, but was air Canada’s."

Cons: "i am à French National ( France) living in UK. After a confusing conversation from the officer not understanding that I was not travelling to France ( assumption) I was asked to show evidence I had the right to enter UK !!!! I explained I lived there permanently ; I was then asked why French hate English so much!!! To which I explained only narrow minded people would believe so and that the style of her comment were not appropriate . I explained my children were half French half British and that her comment was offensive ."
Cons: "Everything was sub-par, the food, entertainment, the crew responsiveness, I asked for two drinks and was told that I could only get one at a time... really? The crew was multilingual, which was great, but also very annoying to have to listen to announcements in 5 different languages. They could use media with standardized messaging and a choice of an appropriate language, but these would make too much sense I guess. This was the tightest coach I've ever flown in, the seat ergonomics was horrible."

So friendly and helpful although it was an hour wait to get to customer service she was very helpful in getting me on a flight hours earlier than the one I was booked on. She was very empathetic to the fact I was supposed to be in Calgary at 10:30am and the flight I was booked on wasn't going to get me there until 11:30pm"
Cons: "All day I had been reset for flights I were going to miss. When I fianally made it to Toronto and I get put on the 3rd flight to leave for Calgary...thankfully for the last noted above. In the end I missed my ride from the airport and had to rent a car. It made for a very long day!! Although the staff were friendly I just felt shuffled all day"

Pros: "The whole experience from boarding to landing was great. Zone 2 boarding is one of the first called and the premium economy section has larger seats that recline more and don't affect the person behind as much. Food was decent and serve on a ceramic plate with real silver wear. On demand entertainment was adequate with a number of recent titles and even audiobook options."
Cons: "The section was set up in a 2-3-2 seat configuration and I booked the middle 3, but were given 2 in the middle and one one the left aisle. One of the middle seats was left open for the pilot to come back and watch movies during the flight. When I asked the attendant if we could swap the left aisle with the "pilot's" the attendant made it seem like it was a bigger deal but eventually asked the pilot who said he didn't mind. After all, it was just changing one empty seat to the other side of the aisle."

Cons: "Boarding process was poorly organized, crew started the passport checks too late and caused delays on the boarding since people were still stuck in the passport lineups when their zone was boarding. All my documents were re-checked despite a "doc ok" stamp from the first go."

Cons: "The trip took about 48 hours. After a cancelled flight I got no hotel discount. Several flights were delayed or cancelled and in the end I ended up just going to a city 3 hours from where I live and renting a car to drive home. My luggage still hasn't arrived. This was the worst, most stressful travel experience of my life."

Pros: "I flew roundtrip to Japan on Air Canada business class. Buying a ticket late, I noticed it was only $500 or so more for business class. We did have to touchdown in Canada coming and going, but short and efficient hops. On the way back, it probably saved time because we were cleared in Canada so arriving back in Philly was like a domestic flight. Great Food and service. The trip to Japan on their new Dreamliner business class featured an amazingly designed pod - super comfortable, lay flat for sleeping, But has good layout and table space if I had wanted to work on laptop. Thumbs up!"
Pros: "Treated well and basically enjoyable flight, which is saying something on an eleven hour flight."
Cons: "On the return flight we arrived an hour late, and though we were told that they were holding our connecting flight, it left on time, five minutes before we got to the gate."

Return flight was first late then was told that the Restroom inside the plane is not working which is weird (atleast i never experienced this before)."

Having seen that ALL flights were delayed (it was 9:40 pm when I connected through Toronto) I asked 2 Air Canada employees about my 10:30 flight that showed on time on the monitor but Kayak already said it was late. They said it was late due to late inbound aircraft. A fellow passenger informed me that TO was down to one runway and things would be late late - which they were. TALK to us Air Canada!!!"

Cons: "There was a build-up of delays for domestic flights, namely from Toronto to Edmonton, Ottawa and Calgary (the ones I heard). I was on the Toronto to Calgary flight, which was supposedly delayed from 16:45 till 18:55 EST, but the actual boarding time was closer to 19:45 EST. Once all the passengers were boarded, the crew informed us that the pilot was missing. Another 20 minutes went by before he was located, at which point we were informed that the first mate was missing as well. By the time the pilot and first mate were both on the aircraft, it took another 30 minutes for them to get the aircraft ready. My flight from Toronto to Calgary was supposed to arrive at 19:40 MDT, the actual arrival time was 23:00 MDT. As a passenger, I am annoyed to say the least."

Cons: "I had a very large man behind me and couldn't recline my seat an ounce therefore I couldn't sleep the entire flight. I think if your a certian size you should have to buy a seat with more room instead of make everyone else uncomfortable. The food was almost inedible, and there wasn't much more than chips or chocolate bars to pick up in That section of the Airport before flying out :( Entertainment choices were excellent though!"

Cons: "This was the last leg of a 24 hour journey from Venice to Seattle for my sister and me. After having a 3 1/2 hour layover, our plane was supposed to leave at 6:30 PM and kept getting delayed. One of the biggest frustrations was the lack of communication by the staff! We could see them at the counter where our gate was but no one would come out and talk to us! Our plane finally got off the ground at 8:30 PM!"

Cons: "Connecting flight was repeatedly delayed. Then finally cancelled because no crew was provided by the airline. Since this was only announced so late - after midnight - hotel rooms were no longer available we had to try to sleep on the floor in the departure hall. Maybe ok for 20 year old travelers. Not for 75 year olds like me who paid business class fare so as to hopefully avoid some of the rigors of travel. I managed to catch up on some sleep the next day in the business lounge while eating for my rescheduled connection. Still it has taken an additional period to physically recover from this experience."
Pros: "I liked the newer plane and cloth seats with mild colors. The chargers were a nice accessory but sacrificed leg movability which leads us to the negatives --->"
Cons: "Wow, I know that business means remaining competitive and as such any and all cost cutting measures are taken along with profit increase measures but............... Wow, talk about being crammed in like a sardine. I'm a male of average height and usually this is a blessing because it feels as though all vehicles, amusement rides and doorways are custom made just for me with the exception of Air Canada planes. I have never in my 300+ number of flights ever felt so confined in any seat. The distance from my knee to the seat in front of me was a claustrophobic finger length at best. Getting up to use the restroom required the other passengers to get up, and I had to stand and walk across their seats to get in/out. Luckily the lady next to me was nice enough and the flight was pleasant overall, but I will certainly think twice before booking another Air Canada flight!!!"

Cons: "The boarding crew did a poor job of giving direction. In spite of the fact that boarding by zone was not specified, I was reprimanded by staff for boarding when I did. I found it very disrespectful that the staff reprimanded me for their own error. When I pointed out that they had not called a zone the ground staff lied and said they had called the zone. I strongly recommend staff receive remedial customer service training. This was an incredibly negative experience - not to mention undermined the otherwise decent experience that the Air Canada flight team provided."

Cons: "Boarding process. We had four flights on Air Canada, and were put in the last boarding group on every one of them, which makes it hard to get overhead space. It seems statistically impossible for them to assign the worst boarding group to the same people every time, but they did it."

Not too much, not too small, just right for a 6 foot man to not have his knees pressed against the seat in front for the whole ride"

Split our group after rescheduling due to aircraft issues despite seats available on both connectors. Said to wait until next stop to fix. Next stop said nothing they can do since we checked a bag. Put 2 hours between arrivals just because they can. Blamed it on the computer. Did provide a $10 meal voucher. Good to know Air Canada values my total trip delay time at $2/hr"
Pros: "The flight itself was excellent, no comments there. The head stewardess was a bit stressed and bossy (not only to the passengers, but her staff too) but the other crew members made up for that with their excellent, professional attitude."
Cons: "Calgary Airport was DREADFUL!!!! The long lineups for Customs & Immigration actually caused me to miss my next flight, even though the Frankfurt flight was early and I had over 90 minutes between flights. Several passengers were expressing concerns about missing their connection, but the staff just shrugged and made everybody wait in line without even trying to organize matters. I spent well over an hour waiting for my passport to be stamped and when I finally got through and tried to locate my suitcase (which was MIA), my next flight was closed. At least my suitcase will be delivered to our home, which is a slight relief."
Pros: "Food - Free dinners even for economy class. Entertainment - Every seat has a TV that offers multiple languages and tons of blockbuster movies from a variety of genres. Airline had to change the aircraft and as a result all passengers had to be transported to the new aircraft by buses rather than via boarding bridges. It was the longest airport shuttle ride ever because no one told us what to expect. People complained. But airline could have managed expectations better by giving notice to customers what will happen next, customers will be more forgiving that way."

The "foot rest" also dug into my upper shins the entire flight (I had it in the upright position, but I have long legs). The food was really bad, basically inedible. Not just on this flight but on all the Air China flights I've been on, and both food options are usually identical other than the option between fake chicken or fake beef or seafood. The flight is super structured (referring to my 13-hour flight), that you're not allowed to sleep when you want because they have such a regimented schedule of when to turn on/off the lights, etc. On multiple occasions the flight attendants have turned off my tv monitor while I'm in the middle of a movie just because it appeared I was sleeping. With my 1 hr layover in Beijing that ended up being less than 10 minutes due to a delay, I made the rush through security quick enough, but my bags did not and needed to be shipped to me a day later at my destination. Air China purposefully schedules flights with such short layovers, putting customers' travel at risk. Not a major issue, but the crew surprisingly also had pretty limited English on the Beijing-Washington DC flight. For connecting flights, I have no expectation of English language ability, because it doesn't involve travel to an English-speaking country. However, if you're flying to the US, you should expect to communicate in English well, at least one of the cabin crew."

The "C" shape plus the headrest jutting out so far make it impossible to get comfortable enough to fall asleep and there is very little leg room. I had finally drifted off when my friend poked me awake because they were serving dinner even though there were about 4 hours left in the flight. I was half asleep and had no appetite so I ended up giving them the whole tray back. There was also a shrill toddler several rows ahead of us who was yapping loudly for the entire second half of the flight. I obviously understand that children will be children and it was a long flight, but would have been nice if staff had asked the parents to try to quiet him down as they were not attempting to do so at all. Finally, our bags did not make it onto the next flight in time."

Cons: "The problem is the time Air China to make the connection flight. It only allows one and half hour from the flight from Hong Kong to Beijing and the latter to Washington Dulles. When the plane touched down in Beijing, it took over half an hour just to taxi to the gate. I have to run literally from the gate to the immigration and to TSA. I had also cut the line to get to the front so I don't missed the connecting flight. There were people screamed and yelled about our action (I Have 2 other couples under the same situation and don't want to miss their flight). But I finally made the security understand that we were told by Air China (with the red Air China round sticker) that we should cut the line to get to our plane. This is second time happened to me and Air China won't wait to close its gate when departure time arrives. I am not sure what will happen if I miss the connection. I stranded one night in Beijing with Continental couple years ago because of typhoon and was told the airline is not required to do anything for you because of weather related. But the connection issue needs to be addressed as I am sure some of my fellow passengers had missed their connecting flight yesterday. For now, I will stay away from Beijing connection ( ie no more Air China) until the latter makes some realistic adjustment to its connecting schedule. This is not difficult but they need to be aware and lessen stress to its customers. Beijing airport authority needs better facility with properly trained personnel to facilitate the transfer process. On the tv monitor we were watching our final approach as we bypassed the airport and made three 360 degree turns 50 miles out for 30 minutes and not one word from the Captain what was happening, very nerve racking. When I advised the ticket agent of this at the gate she attempted to deny us pre-boarding even though I explained I was given permission. When I wouldn't back down she let us in reluctantly. Then she proceeded tell an additional security check right before the doors to check me because I was suspicious. She followed this will telling them to check me thoroughly and slowly. This made me even madder because I was the only one they did this to. Everyone else that was randomly (randomly I might add because it is supposed to be random) got swiped with a little wipe and was let through. I had to take articles of clothing off and have all by carry on bags gone through. Even my 6 year old sons whose bag I was carrying because he couldn't. This set off my son by the way who doesn't do well with the stress of boarding because of all the people (which is why we needed to pre-board the plane). So I had to have a friend leave with him to board the plane and couldn't be there for him because of this one agents problem of me not doing what she said and standing up for myself and my family. Oh, and by the way I was very respectful when speaking with her and their could have been no confusion between the language as I was speaking to her in Chinese."

Cons: "After long, chaotic lines to transfer planes in Beijing to head to Shenzhen I was showing my passport to the security guard, and suddenly he calls for someone, and another guard walks away with my passport. I had no idea what was going on. I wasn't told to follow him, but he had my passport, so I followed the guard to get my passport back, and the guard hands me my passport, laughs, and points upward. I walk upstairs and see a mess of lines. A bunch of flights were canceled due to a small storm. The machines to rebook a flight were broken, so I had to wait in a line for 2+ hours in order to rebook a flight for the following day. We were told that there would be a complimentary hotel, but I waited in a line for an hour to inquire about a hotel room, only to be told where my luggage was. They could have held up a sign saying where everyone's luggage was, instead of misleading us, saying it was a line for a hotel room. My suitcase was in a pile of suitcases from all the flights that were canceled, and was difficult to find. After spending 6 hours at the airport sorting out new travel plans, I ended up with no place to sleep, but fortunately found a friend of a friend to stay with. The next day, I arrived at the airport for my new flight, with no seat assignment. I waited in a long line to get a seat, then went to board the plane, and the flight was delayed 3 hours. Overall, it took 34 hours to arrive in Shenzhen after leaving San Francisco. If I had automatic updates sent to my email, or, if there was signage at the airport giving people information, that would have been helpful for the crowds of confused people. I also might have had a chance to reroute my flight Hong Kong to get in earlier, but I had no idea what was going on. There was terrible communication that was not due to a language barrier."

Because they did not do this, and multiple flights were delayed for the same gate, the gate was extremely crowded. When an earlier delayed flight was boarding, there was no announcement and no indication on the signs! As a result, some people were uninformed of their flight departure! There was also a tremendous amount of jostling and pushing to allow people to board. This is clearly a problem for the ground crew and airport to make more efficient and flyer-friendly."

I was particularly surprised at their approach to any passenger who could potentially cause problems for the flight or other passengers. I'm American and to be frank, we are total jerks in flight. You tell an American to put away their mobile device and as soon as you turn your back they're back at it. Americans in general are unreasonable people. The flight attendants' approach to solving problems before they have an opportuniy to become problems was a sight to see, friendly, non-confrontational. They brought beverages around at regular intervals which was very comforting. Also, not only were blankets and pillows at every seat before takeoff, but they were fairly decent. Very comfortable. On a US carrier you can expect to be charged extra for any little thing, and so you don't even bother to ask for it. On Air China you don't have to worry about it."

The seats are the most uncomfortable I've dealt with on an international flight. And my luggage didn't make the connection for my Beijing-NY flight, so I had to deal with lost luggage after waiting at the baggage claim for a long time. Luckily, I live in NY and could have my luggage delivered later that night. Other people were not so lucky and were told FedEx would get it to them 4 days later. However, having said all that, I feel like you get what you pay for, and I got an incredible deal on this round-trip flight."

Cons: "But it takes more just being nice to be a good service. I always flight business and occasionally first class within the Star Alliance system. I'm a Chinese and I love my people. By still keeping my Chinese citizenship after 27 years living in US may show that. But I have to say my dear Chinese crew members always miss some details on service. For instance, this time on my way back to JFK, they woke us up five hours before landing to serve us the light meal, that other Star Alliance airlines usually do around two hours ahead of landing. I took Air China four times in the past 10 months and they always did the same thing, even though I specifically requested that don't wake me up if I'm sleeping. They turned on the cabin lights and talked with passengers next to me very loud. I hope it's not the case that they serve the light meal so early in order to get their jobs done earlier ahead of landing. Other Star Alliance airlines never do this kind of thing."

The flight the next day was late as well!"

My girlfriend is on medication and shouldn't become dehydrated so I was forced to "acquire" a bottle of water from the service area when the attendant left. The food was atrocious, far worse than when we flew from San Francisco to Beijing for some reason. I believe the crew was understaffed and tired. Overall it was extremely disappointing and I will do my best never to fly with them again, or through Beijing airport."
