FAQs - booking Kenya flights

  • Do I need a visa to travel to Kenya?

Canadian citizens are required to apply for a tourist visa prior to their arrival in Kenya. You can get an e-Visa by visiting the website of the Kenyan Department of Immigration Services. A single-entry visa costs 5,770 KES (51 CAD) and is valid for 90 days. Once your visa is approved, you should bring a printed copy with you to the airport. Be aware that your passport should be valid for at least 6 months beyond your expected departure date.

  • Are there direct flights to Kenya?

While there are no direct flights from Canada to Kenya, many national carriers offer one-stop flights from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and Montreal-Pierre Trudeau International Airport (YUL). Most flights include a layover at one of Europe's major airports. Kenya Airways offers a direct flight from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, which might be a convenient option if you search for a cheap flight to New York.

  • Where should I fly to within Kenya?

While Moi International Airport in Mombasa services some international flights to Europe, the vast majority of international flights to Kenya arrive at the main airport, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi. If you are flying in from Canada, you will probably find better and cheaper connections to Nairobi.

  • I want to visit the Masai Mara. Which airport should I fly into?

To visit Kenya's largest wildlife reserve, you can fly into one of several airports such as Mara Serena Airport (MRE), located in Masai Mara. Most connections depart from Wilson Airport which is the domestic airport in Nairobi, but you can also catch a flight from Mombasa if you are travelling from the coastal region.

  • Which airlines offer the most frequent service between Kenya and Canada?

Among the numerous large companies that offer flights linking Kenya and Canada, Qatar Airways is recognized as one of the most reputable. If you want to improve the dependability of your flights when travelling between Canada and Kenya, Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) is one of the greatest airport options to take into account. Flair Airlines, Air Canada, and WestJet are a few of the carriers that use this airfield as their main hub.

  • What airport should a visitor fly into if they want to enjoy frequent sporting events in Kenya?

The best way to observe local sporting events when visiting Kenya is to fly into Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO). Most of Kenya's stadiums are in or nearby Nairobi City, the country's capital. Some excellent locations in Kenya to see your preferred local sporting events include Nairobi City Stadium and Nyayo National Stadium, especially on weekends. From NBO Airport you can reach these stadiums via rental cars, train, taxis, or buses.

  • How does KAYAK find such low prices on flights from Canada to Kenya?

KAYAK is a travel search engine. That means we look across the web to find the best prices we can find for our users. With over 2 billion flight queries processed yearly, we are able to display a variety of prices and options on flights from Canada to Kenya.

  • How does KAYAK's flight Price Forecast tool help me choose the right time to buy my flight ticket from Canada to Kenya?

KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool uses historical data to determine whether the price for a flight from Canada to Kenya is likely to change within 7 days, so travellers know whether to wait or book now.

  • What is the Hacker Fare option on flights from Canada to Kenya?

Hacker Fares allow you to combine one-way tickets in order to save you money over a traditional round-trip ticket. You could then fly from Canada to Kenya with an airline and back with another airline.

  • What is KAYAK's "flexible dates" feature and why should I care when looking for a flight from Canada to Kenya?

Sometimes travel dates aren't set in stone. If your preferred travel dates have some wiggle room, flexible dates will show you all the options when flying from Canada to Kenya up to 3 days before/after your preferred dates. You can then pick the flights that suit you best.

Top tips for finding cheap flights to Kenya

  • Enter your preferred departure airport and travel dates into the search form above to unlock the latest Kenya flight deals.
  • Most flights from Canada to Kenya include a layover at a major European airport. Due to its economic and historic relationship with the European Union, many cheap flights to Kenya are available from European countries such as the UK, Germany and the Netherlands.
  • While some resorts and national parks in Kenya accept U.S. dollars, in most places you will be required to pay with cash, using the Kenyan shilling. Be aware that it is easier and more favourable to exchange U.S. dollars, British pounds or euros in Kenya.
  • Kenya is mostly a cash-driven society, even though some of the high-end resorts and hotels accept credit cards. You can use your credit card to withdraw cash from ATMs, which are readily available in airports and in the major cities such as Nairobi and Mombasa.
  • If you are planning a trip to Kenya's famous Diani beach, consider flying into Ukunda Airport (UKA), which is located approximately 3 km from Diani beach. Air Kenya offers daily connections to and from Wilson Airport (WIL) in Nairobi.
  • To visit Tsavo East National Park, consider flying into Moi International Airport (MOI) in Mombasa, which is closer to the park than Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) in Nairobi. You can then travel to the park by car. Tsavo East is about 3h 30min away from Mombasa.
  • To get to Malindi's marine reserve and Watamu beach, you can either drive along the Coastal Highway from Mombasa or fly directly into Malindi Airport (MYD) from Nairobi.
  • The majority of travelers from Canada arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO), Kenya's main international entry point. The NBO Airport is perhaps the best airport to fly into if you want to explore more of Kenya's well-known towns and cities, including Kisumu, Nakuru, Ruiru, Kiambu, Thika, and Limuru.
  • Although Moi International Airport (MBA) is an alternative airport with regular flights to Kenya from Canada, the majority of commercial travellers opt to fly into NBO Airport. NBO Airport is a preferred airport for travelers on official commercial trips due to its proximity to Nairobi City, which acts as the country's capital and is home to the bulk of Kenya's large businesses' head offices.
  • The Nairobi city centre is accessible through bus number 34, which is run by Citi Hoppa, which departs from the airport's bus terminal located halfway between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. The green and yellow color scheme and slightly larger size of the buses make them easier to identify than the common "matatu" buses in Kenya.

Airline reviews

To the Ethiopian Airlines Customer Relations Team, I am writing to formally express my disappointment regarding my recent travel experience with Ethiopian Airlines on . Unfortunately, the level of service provided fell significantly short of the standards I expected from your airline. I would like to highlight the following serious issues encountered during the journey: • Cabin Condition and Hygiene: The aircraft cabin was notably poorly maintained. The seating area was dirty, and there was a persistent, unpleasant odor throughout the flight, which made the environment very uncomfortable for passengers. • Inadequate Service: The overall level of service provided by the staff was unsatisfactory and did not reflect a professional passenger experience. • Baggage Loss: Upon arrival, I was informed that my luggage was lost. This is particularly distressing as it has caused significant personal inconvenience and disruption to my schedule. As a frequent traveler, I value reliability and a clean cabin environment. I request that you investigate these matters immediately, provide an update on the status of my missing baggage, and outline how you intend to compensate for these failures in service. I look forward to your prompt response and a resolution to my lost luggage claim. Sincerely, Puguh

A bit chaotic boarding flight but over all good experience.

We had a good flight experience with this airline despite reading many negative comments

Delay not posted, only departure time listed- not boarding time. We left an hour late and arrived 45 min late. Restrooms had backed up sinks and toilets not flushed ) passenger error). Lots of screen for entertainment didn’t work. But we arrived with our luggage

The plane was old and the luggage racks above us were visibly shaking during turbulence. Water was dripping on our heads during landing. Our flight was over 2 hours late departing but we were not updated or told what to expect as the screen at the gate continued to read “on time”

I had a memorable experience. I dont have any comments at this time regarding waht could be better.

The crew was not helping us in the airports ..Very bad experience..the washrooms are not meeting the expectations..need more good service... The hotel service was good but there is a very long wait time which wasted time to go through..

Need to do a lot of improvement on service and cleaness

They only gave us 30 minutes to make an international connecting flight. We didn’t make the connection but they did do a good job rebooking us despite the chaos. Our bags didn’t make it back and their process for customer support is pretty bad when it comes to luggage.

Baggage check is an aggravation. We had four 4 bags, if a bag is just .10 of a kilo you cannot check it on AC self baggage check. It is not possible to check the weight of the bag at the self checking. Should you check a bag that is under the limit it will go right through and you can’t get it back to redistribute weight from a heavier bag.

I cannot think how they could put more seats together but they did. So elbow to elbow leg to leg for these long journeys they should consider leg space at least. Since they did not offer to check people's carry one space was tight and if you did not get on first people used your assigned overhead storage so now your doing these same to another. Cascading inconvenience.

Despite exit row seating, which gave leg room, seating was so narrow, the next passenger spilled over onto my seat. WiFi did not work.

It was okay. The seating didn’t give you much space especially when you book a premium. It was still pretty close. The seats had no screens which was a disappointment. The crew was awesome though. Again I wish the wait between families with children boarding and general boarding was a little longer to give families some time to get situated especially those bringing a stroller like myself or for solo parents travelling like myself who has to do everything. The time between boarding zones especially with chilling is so short, I had to gate check my stroller and did not have enough time to pull it down and transport my luggage inside all while having my infant strapped to me or to even ask a flight attendant to assist as they’re busy with the the general boarding going on

Complimentary food options could be better. There should be a little wait between people boarding with children under 6 and the rest of the boarding. There isn’t enough time to get yourself situated before take off.

Flight itself was not bad at all. However: my checked bag (checked in Calgary) did not make it onto this flight as I found out after I landed at EWR. I still don't have it but it appears that it is on its way to me.

I was tired enough to fall asleep soon after takeoff and slept until "we are starting our descent to Toronto" announcement. That's not bad at all.

Very tight seats - no legroom at all, very tight to the person in front of you. If you have basic fare, you are loading zone 6 regardless of where you are sitting in the plane - meaning even as a middle aisle person at the front of the plane, I had to get people to get up and let me in as they had boarded earlier. Having to pay for a carry on is criminal. I am a frequent flyer, and air Canada has now joined the list of other terrible North American Airlines.

The crew was amazing! I was a bit surprised and disappointed that there was not wifi available for personal use. The only thing I would change would be the seat cushions. They are not comfortable at all for long flights.

Flight and attendance were very good we had 2 hour delay that took the shine of it

Was never allowed on and not refunded the full amount of the ticket plus charged a $300 processing fee.

The flight got delayed 3 hours from Montreal and we missed our connecting flight so it was a long journey

The service and food was excellent. The remote control for entertainment did not function properly.

All was good, except my USB charging did not work, so my phone got drained and I could not charge it. Same happened to my neighbour.

A bit more space? Not practical, I know. I felt squished in but part of that could have been the man sitting next to me.

The plane (Mitsubishi CRJ) felt old, creaking and not very new. The crew was okay. Hot water provision was broken so hot beverages could't be served.

Not bad. We had preboarding tickets but the preboarding was badly managed. We lined up behind all the parents with little kids etc and when we got to the front of the line the attendant deliberately turned away from us and ignored us until I asked to be allowed to go to the gate. She started telling us that we had to wait until I told her we had preboarding then she let us through.

Exit row seat that cost extra to book had a bad monitor marked as out of order, so clearly something they should have fixed.

Everything well done and customer oriented There entertainment system is difficult to navigate

They delayed my flight from Toronto Pearson for one hour and Frankfurt to Abuja for 2HRS, So sad

Overall good experience but for long distances there really needs to be more room.

there really needs to be more room with each seat for such a long flight.

They boarded backwards so our zone meant nothing!!! My TV was broken, the remote was broke, the head set jack was broke! So i was stuck for 15 hours with no form of entertainment!!! The service was ok but they didn't check on us or serve many snacks. They acted like you were a burden when you hit the call button.

The plane was delayed almost three hours because boarding was unorganized then we were delayed even longer because the plane had an issue. The plane didn't look well maintained, there was also alot of tape on the exterior. I won't fly kenya air ways again after this trip.

Sadly, flights were delayed both ways with no reasons given other than " operational".

The crew was good but the entertainment was poor . All old movies and TV shows and very few of them. Needs current entertainment. Seats too firm. Food just ok. Nice though to have option with upgrade of no one sitting in middle seat

I purchased the upgrade to have 3 seats open, so I was able to sleep 9 hours. Without that I would have been miserable

Our luggage was supposed to be checked through from Arusha to Cape Town. We didn't know that it was a self transfer in Johannisburg. Kayak should not have sold this flight combination with out a self transfer alert.

There was chaos checking because of a canceled flight the day prior. Also, we had an issue with tickets. The KQ agent went above a d beyond to help us get on board the flight Overall the 13+ hour flight is uncomfortable in coach. I may try to upgrade on return

For a long haul flight, the seats were too narrow. Paid for extra legroom but wish I could have paid for width! I was pressed against another person for the whole donation of the flight.

Boarding crew were extremely rude. At check in, I showed a medical note from a surgeon stating that I had a medical problem that caused me to end up in an emergency room. The surgeon requested that I get an upgrade so I can travel back home comfortably since I was in a lot of pain. I was alone with my daughters (9 and 14). They made a huge deal about giving me seats although there were so many empty seats in business. Finally, I paid a hefty price for it and the seats were exactly the same as in economy cabins but not as good because there was a forced tray in the middle seat that I couldnt even lift so I can lay down.

Easy, straightforward boarding process. Flight attendant was lovely and attentive, food was delicious - especially dinner, I had the roasted chicken in a mushroom sauce with potatoes - and entertainment selection was top notch. I would fly with BA again.

I like everything about British Airways. Excellence. Perfect. Exquisite service.

Need thicker and wider blankets. Food was below standard especially in the fist leg.

Decrepit planes, poor business class layout designed to maximize revenue, no decent movie selection.

⭐ British Airways Review — A Journey of Highs, Lows, and Lessons ⭐ I recently flew Business Class round-trip from Boston to Mumbai with British Airways, and my experience was a tale of two extremes — from disappointment to exceptional service, and then back to inconsistency. Boston → London: A Surprisingly Poor Start My journey began on a disappointing note. On a 6-hour Business Class flight, I was surprised to discover that there wasn’t a single proper vegetarian meal option available. I was offered a few bakery items only after repeatedly requesting something to eat. The flight attendant shrugged, offered no solution, and eventually — quite literally — threw some bread at me after much delay. This was not only disheartening, it was extremely surprising given my wonderful Business Class experience with BA last year. I stepped off that flight genuinely hungry and had to make a mad dash to the lounge just to get a proper meal. London → Mumbai: A Complete Turnaround The next sector restored my faith in British Airways. The entire crew was warm, welcoming, attentive, and genuinely caring. A special shoutout to Phiroze, Sara and the entire team serving the Business Class cabin — their professionalism, hospitality, and thoughtful service were extraordinary. They truly embodied what makes British Airways a global leader, and I am deeply grateful for the experience they provided. This is the BA I know and love. Mumbai → London: A Strange Meal Schedule This sector was generally fine, but the meal timing was puzzling. Lunch at 10:30 AM — for a Business cabin — felt unusual, and most passengers, including myself, barely touched it. The rest of the service was smooth, but the scheduling definitely needs a rethink. London → Boston: Mixed Experience Again The flight itself was decent, but the Business Lounge at Heathrow for this leg was a letdown. Arrived during lunch hours: no hot vegetarian options available Lounge area: dirty dishes everywhere Even after politely alerting the staff, the dishes were ignored and left uncleared For a premium cabin passenger — and at one of the world’s busiest international hubs — this was disappointing. Overall Impression My journey with British Airways felt inconsistent — two great sectors sandwiched between two that fell short of the BA standard. When BA is good, it is world-class. When it misses, the gap is noticeable. I genuinely hope the airline takes this feedback as constructive insight. I continue to believe in British Airways, and I commend the outstanding crew on the London → Mumbai sector — they were the highlight of my entire trip. With a little more focus on vegetarian meal availability, lounge service, and consistency across crews, BA can ensure every Business Class passenger experiences the premium journey they promise.

I didn’t know i’d be flying AA for the long legs.

All good. Loo’s weren’t great and as clean as i would like.

Was delayed on first leg and missed connection. They would not let me board although I arrived at the gate 5 min before take off. I was delayed 24hrs

The wheelchair service was good. Staff and crew were helpful/supportive. The business of 'being overbooked' ....."you may not be able to travel tonight/we may have to put you in Economy'" was rather unsettling. Even Economy Plus in a MIDDLE seat felt cramped. The seating and experience felt very basic even though I had struggled to pay for extra - Economy Plus.
