Top tips for finding cheap flights to Madeira

  • Travelers setting off from Montreal will primarily use Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL). As one of Canada's busiest airports, Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport offers numerous international flights, including possible routes to Madeira. It's always a good idea to monitor multiple airlines and booking platforms for optimal deals from this airport.
  • Madeira's primary airport is Cristiano Ronaldo Madeira International Airport (FNC) located near the capital, Funchal. It's a stunningly constructed airport, with part of its runway built over the ocean. Upon landing, you'll immediately be greeted with the beauty of Madeira.
  • When planning your trip, ensure you're aware of the baggage policies of the airline you're flying with. Different airlines have varying limits and fees for both carry-on and checked luggage, especially on international routes. Airlines like TAP Portugal, which often operate flights to Madeira, have baggage stipulations that travelers should familiarize themselves with to avoid unexpected fees.
  • Given the distance and routing, direct flights from Montreal to Madeira are less common. Common layover points might include Lisbon or other major European hubs. When booking your ticket, it's helpful to know these common transit points, as it allows you to perhaps plan a brief city tour during a longer layover or just prepare for the transit experience.
  • If sustainable travel is important to you, it's worth investigating airlines with strong green initiatives. Some carriers have adopted measures to reduce carbon emissions, invest in sustainable aviation fuels, or participate in carbon offset programs. A little additional research can help you align your travel choices with your environmental values.

The facilities at PDL are absolutely appalling during a 4.5-hour connection. Passengers from multiple flights were crammed into a small area with insufficient seating and only a snack bar. The only bathroom was unisex, with one stall for men and another for women side by side. This is for hundreds of passengers. The connecting aircraft from PDL to JFK was downgraded/switched out to an Economy Class-only configuration without explanation, even though the aircraft with Comfort Class we arrived from FNC on remained at the stand. Those who paid for Comfort Class could not enjoy the better seating or catering. Food and drink aboard was sub-par. I would qualify it as one of our worst travel experiences in years.

The crew was great. The only problem is that electrical outlets were not working in what seems to be a half of the rows on the plane. Considering that passengers are asked not to use power banks, this leaves us out in the blue without any entertainment option.

Reasonably comfortable. We were about an half an hour late. But no personal impact. Seats upfront have a good amount of recline, but do not lay down flat. Food and drink can be improved. There are no soft drinks available on the flights. Water, juices, and wines are provisioned.

Flight on time. Staff pleasant and responsive. Food could be much better. Snack before landing was a few dry crackers and a drink. Nothing else. There was a very lumited selection of beverages available on a 7 hour flight. No soft drinks, even in the front cabin.

Delayed departure of one hour and half, inflight entertainment NOT functioning. Plane did not crash and I arrived alive, so I guess it was a good flight.

This was a long flight - 6 hours - and nothing is truly comfortable for that long... but the flight crew was friendly and attentive. The airport in the Azores is small but we weren't there long enough to explore any amenities.

There is one flight a day and it was canceled with no explanation

Flight was ok. Food on way there great a pork dish way back tuna and pasta was not good. Flight attendants were great. Wish they had more soda options like ginger ale seltzer water. Good experience overall. Worst part of trip was car rental Klass company car broke down we were on side of road late night 4 hours awful awful experience all they wanted was 500 euros for help to come absolutely horrible experience we were scared side of highway they offered zero help!

Coming from USA it was nice to be treated nice for a change. Even though our flight was pretty short we were served breakfast. On time flight with very caring staff. Please teach American carriers how to treat people.

More space between seats and in bathroom. I don’t think there was any entertainment offered. If there was, I wasn’t aware.

Efficient, calm when things were delayed and kept us regularly informed of what was happening.

Airbus plane, nice and polite staff, entertainment even as it was a short flight.

Very nice and clean plane. Transit time between flights was tight though

Our flights got changed from United to Air Canada and our purchased seats did not get transferred so we had to pay for seats twice. I brought it up with Air Canada and they stated I had to go back and chase it with United. The united seats were $21 Canadian each and Air Canada were $56 each so we have paid $77 for each seat. Very unhappy

So far so good but food and entertainment are not available for this flight

Plane temperature was comfortable (not to hot) when boarding and waiting for takeoff.

Michael, our FA was very attentive, even finding me a chocolate brownie from economy class when the dessert selections were all dairy based. ( intolerant, not allergic so don’t usually need to order dairy free)

We tried to upgrade to economy premium but were told this was not possible as we had booked through United Airlines (and Air Canada was operating the flight). This seemed silly given there was ample space in economy premium. Additionally, we had to wait almost 1.5 hours upon arrival to taxi to the gate. Otherwise, the crew were very pleasant and passengers were friendly.

It was my first time with United Airlines and I would say it was very good experience and best of all the flights were on time. Will definitely fly with United Airlines next time.

headphone jack didnt work for the first flight and not much variety

Service Director cut all cabin lights and window screens defaulted to dark, but it was an afternoon flight going west. I spent hours trying to see what was reading as reading lights weren't working either. What the hell.

The food could have been better. The flight attendant was the friendliest and most helpful I have ever had.

Almost no food given on a 5-hour flight (only a cookie, which is almost a joke). Boarding was a mess (as always, in Montreal boarding by zones is chaotic and the lines are a total mess). The entertainment system was old and with a limited selection.

Very nice comfortable spacy Airbus 321. I liked the offer of food on the Bistro menu. The idea is very good to pay and cost was low.

Received email saying that there won’t be a seat back entertainment screen and inflight WiFi would be available. But no WiFi both ways. Say it in the email.

Staff was very attentive! Food was good for premium economy airplane food. Clearly an older plane - seat back had to be pulled up manually after being reclined.

Good, only discomfort was consistent turbulence through the 3 hour flight. Not sure if in companies control though.

No frills very ordinary, charged me twice to book my seat assignment will.need to complain for reimbursement.

Everything ok, but it was a lot of turbulence during the flight.

Crew was pleasant and efficient. The speaker system for instructions was hard to understand

Food was edible, not great, and served by attendants who looked like they really were not happy working the flight. The section I was in was too warm making the 11 hour flight uncomfortable. Other areas on the plane were fine.

I’ve never had worse food in business class ever!

Checked bG chstgr was extremely high. Over $120. It was s bsit and switch knowing an international passenger would have t9 check a bag.

First, communication was terrible. The gate on our ticket was not what was reflected on the airport screens and TAP personnel were not present at either gate to answer questions. The flight was delayed and there was no announcement. Also, there was an equipment swap to a smaller airframe which affected our level of comfort. The root of all these issues was as a lack of communication. With air travel in foreign countries already being a stressful affair, lack of communication needlessly raises the level of difficulty.

Checkin was very slow, we had checked in online and hoping we could do a bag drop at the airport. However everyone with checked bags had to queue up and it took over 40mins. Our advice arrive extra early or you will be rushing to the gate.

On time, politeness, food okay but entertneiment mediocre with only old movie and the so called new we’re 2 or 3…

Do you have a bad service And And treat customers terrible

Awful. I told them to cancel my return flight and they didn’t then charged me +$800 days before the flight for a biz class upgrade bid. When I called to confirm cancellation and get refund on buz class upgrade they said I had to go thru orbitz and it was too late. Scammers. Beware.

Little leg room in business. I am tall and could use more.

Was a cheap flight and it got me to Portugal on time. For economy there was ample leg room and the flight attendants were pleasant and helpful.
