Half an hour before the flight was to depart we were told that the plane is her, but it is in the hangar and they are trying to get it to the terminal for loading. (can you believe) Once it miraculously got to the terminal the crew had to do a safety check etc etc and we boarded the flight 30 minutes after scheduled departure time. We were then informed that the plane had to be fuelled with 20,000 lbs of fuel while we were boarded. This took another 20 minutes. Then they had to de ice. We departed 1 hour after the scheduled time. They ran out of meals on row 14. The entertainment system did not work. When the fasten seat belt sign was on and an announcement came on to stay in your seats, people were wandering around aimlessly and the crew never enforced the announcement. All in all a less than satisfactory experience and an airline I would not fly again if I can help it."

Cons: "When I drove up Toronto’s Pearson Airport, I expected the usual check-in process upon entry for my flight from Toronto to Warsaw (with connecting flights in Halifax and Frankfurt). However, my first surprise, despite me asking ahead of time, was that my small check-in bag would could $100 CDN instead of the $25.00 I was quoted. Despite the WestJest/Condor representatives best effort, I was told that I would, unfortunately, have to pay for the baggage despite the quote I was given. I paid the fee, was given tracking numbers, and asked for my boarding passes. I found it odd that my final flight from Frankfurt to Warsaw did not print out. I asked if this would be a problem for me and my bags arriving on timed, and I was told it would not be, as it is sometimes the case that passengers have to print out boarding passes at the next stop. I flew to Halifax and asked for a boarding pass from Frankfut to Warsaw (which I was told was still a Condor plane), and it was printed for me. Upon arriving in Frankfurt and waiting patiently, something inside caused me to ask about the status of my bags. To my utter shock, and the genuine honesty of my Condor representative in Germany, I was told that my next flight would actually be LOT (Polish Airlines) flight, and that my bags needed to be picked up from baggage claim and checked into my LOT flight. With less than 10 minutes left before boarding and the suggestion of an honest Condor official I was told not to bother trying to go to baggage claim and fill out a missing/delayed baggage claim at LOTs station in Warsaw Chopin Airport. At no point, despite my asking, was I ever informed about having to re-check bags I paid $100.00 to check-in. Moreover, at no point was I told that, on my flights from Toronto to Frankfurt, that everything from simple entertainment to food would cost significantly high cost (in Euros) to purchase. Be aware of these issues fellow travelers, and make sure you pay for food and entertainment (ahead of time) and make sure ALL your bags will be on WestJet/Condor planes or they will NOT be transferred!"

Pros: "Before taking this flight, I was very nervous because of all the bad reviews on here and other sites. The only good reviews seemed to be by people from Alberta (not really trustworthy, as they seem to support anything that's from Alberta, and note that Westjet is based in Alberta...). But I was blown away by how organized Westjet was and how nice they were. All the flights were on time (I had a few layovers), the staff was helpful....I really have no complaints. Sure, they don't have a plethora of great in-flight entertainment such as movies, etc. But when I fly, I'd rather pay less, have the staff be nice/organized, and just bring a darn book to entertain me. It was a great first flight with this company. I would fly with them again....and I can't remember the last time I said that about any other airline. So do yourself a favor: Don't listen to the bad reviews on here (unless you're obsessed with in-flight entertainment and big-butt first class seats)."

Arm rests are almost non existent again very uncomfortable on a long flight. No Monitors in seat so no uou have to 1 have your own device or RENT one from WestJet. No place you put the device, so you must hold it in your hand for hours. VERY uncomfortable."

Cons: "Everything could have been better. Boarding was terrible. Apparently the Air Canada devices did not work at this gate? Because boarding was so delayed, we lost our spot to depart. We were stuck on the tarmac for an hour. The seats were too crammed together and very uncomfortable for a 4+ hour flight. Food service did come through, but they were out of most things. It’s advertised you can buy a meal/snack/drink combo but the drinks did not come through at the same time and that was a mess. There didn’t seem to be any air vents above the seats so the flight was very stuffy. We will never fly Rouge again."

Cons: "Connections to US destinations now require your checked in baggage to be processed before you can proceed to your connecting flights. The real problem is that this is no sign or communications describing this. Everyone is simply stopped in the corridor and told that they cannot proceed farther until their name comes up green on a monitor. Unfortunately the monitor switches displays so frequently that it is almost impossible to read. In addition to that it seems names do not always appear on the monitor unless you get your boarding pass scanned a the desk (this is not communicated to you unless you ask why your name is not on the monitor at all). People late for connecting flights (because of inbound flight delays) are required to wait without explanation sometimes needlessly if they don't have a checked bag. A nightmare if you're trying to make your connection. In addition once you've cleared that hurdle you need to go through security again (something we were unprepared for since we were already in the secure area. You then proceed to customs and then your connecting flight (if you haven't already missed it by then). Allow lots of time to get to your connecting flight, and ask to get you boarding pass scanned at that mysterious "checked bag" stop in the corridor."

Folks were practically sitting in the crew staging area and literally directly next to the bathroom door. So glad we didn't get one of those seats."

In flight entertainment was by app...that you have to download first, I should have known beforehand. Food was little munchies. Seemed like an old and tired airline"

Pros: "the crew are super friendly. even on a little plane from DC-Toronto they had entertainment options which i wouldn't have expected. boarded quickly and landed on time. nobody bats an eye at my wife's weird beverage requests."
Cons: "the cabin of the plane on the return flight didn't have any air conditioning running during boarding and it was uncomfortably hot because it was about 85F outside. the crew only bothered to inform us of the issue when a poor hungover guy behind me asked about it because he was suffering... as were we all. plane didn't get comfortable until over 30 minutes in, at which point we were beginning our descent anyway."

I had a few questions on our flight, so I emailed them and received a form letter that I would get a response in 25 business days. If you have any other choice, take it over Air Canada. I will never fly with them again."

Cons: "my flight was late leaving midland and therefore I missed my flight from houston to toronto NO one at the Houston United airport counters would help me I stood in line at customer service for an hour and a half just so they could tell me to go see some one at the Air Canada to confirm my rebook and that my flight was delayed an hour anyway and I probably could have made it!!"

Pros: "This was my first time in Canada never been there before I had a great time until that one moment I had to deal with workers from air Canada except one agent at the ticketing desk....I had checked in online the day before however I had some card issues because they got shut down by my bank and due to the holiday in America I was unable to call my Bank prior to the airport....got to the airport and tried to explain that all I wanted to do was pay for my bag with cash ...but no one took the time out to listen each time i tried explaining myself I was send to a different location to join another line ....by the time I got to someone who was willing to listen my flight was closed ..her name was Aurora and gave me nothing but attitude when I explained my story......anyways finally got to ticketing and a met the only agent that day who exercise some level of customer service that day...if only I could remember her name ...sigh she went the extra mile because at this point I was frustrated and unsure if I would make it out of the country a sane person due to the amount of chaos I experienced prior. She got LISTENED .....SHE TOOK THE TIME TO LISTEN...got me on a new flight and went above an beyond to assist me that morning I was on the verge of a breakdown at that point all other staff member was very disgusting not only to my self but the other individuals who had mishaps that morning."

Pros: "The most important thing of course is that we arrived safely of course. The plane was clean, the staff members were polite."
Cons: "The seats were so small and terribly uncomfortable. I looked it up and it seems they are some of the smallest seats in the industry. They packed the dreamliner with more seats than it was meant for, making it really cramped for an international flight. Most people had to sit with their feet in their chair because it was so uncomfortable, and my knees were jammed up into the back of the seat in front if I put them down. And I'm only 5'7" so I can't imagine what it would be like for people 6' and above. The seats are hard, narrow and sloped at an odd angle. The bathroom design is poor - the lids of the toilets will NOT stay up and come crashing down on your back when you sit down (disgusting!!). I tried 4 toilets before I could find one that worked without the loose lid. Also the food was really inferior. It is the worst food I have had on an international flight, and I have flown many trips including Delta, Emirates, British Airways, Air France, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, etc. There was also a much smaller movie selection than I am used to. Overall it seemed like a budget airline and was one of my least comfortable trips."

Pros: "Flew through custom and was comfortable on the flight. Flight attendants were nice and attentive and made sure i had what i needed. I was happy with everything overall and intend on flying again soon!!!!"

Cons: "The in flight entertainment is a joke, it's a 14 hour flight so why are there only 3 episodes of any tv show? The food was inedible, and beverages were limited to 3 choices coffee, water or juice. I was trying to sleep on the plane but every time a flight attendant would walk past me they would run into me (and I was very much within my seat) and wake me up. They also woke me up to ask if I wanted food twice. The seats were so uncomfortable. I'm an able bodied 20 something and if I am in this much physical pain from flying I can't imagine what an elderly person must feel like after flying Air Canada. The pillow that was provided gave me no comfort what so ever, it wasn't think enough to even offer some back support."

Cons: "My trip was suppose to have two stops from Saint John to Louisville (one in Toronto and one in Chicago) but instead it ended up being a one stop flight from Saint John to Toronto to Cincinnati because I had to change my whole itinerary due to delays in air canada flights that caused me to miss my other connections. This made me to fly into an entirely different city and have my reception drive to get me for the only other option I was told by an air Canada representative was to take the delayed flight and miss my last connection and overnight Chicago (one of my original connections) and then fly to Louisville the next morning. This was not something I planned on doing and didn't have the time to do so had to find an alternative arrangement to get me close to where I needed to be. The first flight I was on from Saint John to Toronto was also delayed causing the flight to be late upon arrival at the Toronto airport. Not only that but then had to wait in line at the customs center for over an hour for only one customs officer was there to clear over 100+ passengers. Even if my other flights were on time I would have missed them due to the delays all around. Over all I was very displeased with how the day progressed, how I wasn't given much help from the air canada representatives at the airport other than them saying "there's nothing we can do" and for how the day continued to get worse with delays and problems all linked to air Canada."

Lack of proper competition in Canada allows Air Canada and WestJet to charge whatever they want since there are no other real options"

Second really unpleasant flight with Air Canada in less than a year. Will avoid Air Canada from here on."
