Tried to scare tactic us into further insurance.....using anectdotal references. ie. " The last one was total nightmre..the guy had to pay $75 000 out of pocket. Cars get broken into a lot in Vancouver. "
( I live in WA state but grew up in Vancouver. I told him, I know the area and it s bad areas well, we arent going to be in the bad areas and I know how to make a car less..... etc)
We rent about 3 times a years...NEVER experienced this.

Way expensive charge when you get to the counter
Cons: I originally quoted $120 online, and I understand they will add insurance etc to the total when I arrive at the counter, and when they calculate the fees up, the total comes up to $700+, they added way too much unneccesary stuff in to your policy without asking you, if you don't ask, you will be screwed. Please be careful if you have to choose them, don't let them charge you more than what you need.

Cheap but poor advise by counter staff
Pros: Car was cheap and ran fine
Cons: Counter staff said it would be suitable for snowy conditions, however it was not and I ended up having to abandon it after it got stuck

Be careful when checking in...
Cons: Guy tried to upsell us (without being upfront about it) to a car 3x the amount we booked online. Felt like he was trying to pull a fast one. Definitely be careful of what you agree to at the counter!

Pros: I got a deal with Hertz with a location right at the airport (some are outside) in wchich i pay part of it ar reservation and the rest at return - being almost the same amount as quoted- and got a great deal for the 3 days.

Not what I supposed to get.
Cons: When I was reserving car printout stated it will be for 5 people and 2 -3 bags. Car could only fit one medium size bag. When I aquired about it at rental counter I was told to upgrade the car if I need space for second bag. I chose budget's offer since it supposed to fit more bags, but Budget did not fulfill their offer.

Good value for money
Pros: The weekly discount turned out to be very economical for us . The buget car rental was flexible with the cars .. they helped us to find a suitable car for a large group and luggage.
Cons: Booked this months in advance, Staff wouldn’t accept my UK credit card. Were very dismissive and unhelpful.

nice and good price too
Pros: Everything.. Specially when I did drop off the car.. It took less than a minute! The price was amazing.. I paid 208 CAD for a Mustang ( insurance included ) for a week.
Cons: You have to drop off your car at the same place you pick it up from (which is YVR) .. Otherwise you have to pay 50 CAD for downtown drop off.

Second time a charm
Pros: Immediate replacement vehicle for faulty/dirty one was a Mitsubishi ute that served quite well. Remember that the 4x4 switch in the center console is easy to inadvertently activate so be careful when temporarily storing items there.
Cons: Initial vehicle had front-left suspension clunk upon pickup and driving around the lot. Was clearly not cleaned or vacuumed.

unable to use music on phone was horrible/painful
Cons: didnt like how there wasn't bluetooth for music though there was the SYNC bluetooth option. also didnt like how there was an AUX plug but no AUX button/setting to use AUX...weird. especially with no satellite radio, FM radio only can be painful.

Pros: Everything was good. I really appreciate that the rep didn't try to upsell me to a bigger car after I told him that my friend is getting a big car already. He helped me check out as quickly as possible as I declined additional insurance (my credit card has coverage).
I had a Ford Edge...no complaints about the car. The return was quick and courteous.
Lastly, a very nice touch to offer hot chocolate as we checked out...unfortunately there was a sip left. Had a bottle of water though...little things like that makes it feel like they actually care about customers. Brownie points there!

Cons: There is no ace rental in Vancouver . It actually called discount rental. When I got there they said they are not open at the time of my return and they are not in the airport so there was no way for me to get to the airport at 6am after dropping off the car. So I didn't take the car

Vacation rental in Vancouver
Pros: Nice car and friendly employees
Cons: When I rented the car, I was not informed that it was off-site whereas most of the rental companies are on-site at the Vancouver airport. There are no signs at the airport directing you as to how to get to Ace Car Rental. Turns out it also has a different name (Discount Car Rental) which is not in any of the rental info. The people were friendly at check-in but the process was quite disorganized and chaotic. They also changed the price I had been quoted when I reserved the car. When I showed them the agreement, they wouldn't budge. I guess I should've considered 1 star but they seemed more clueless than nefarious

Cons: Off site pick up with bad hours. Our flight got delayed, we got in after 9:30 pm. They were closed. We had to get a taxi to our hotel. Next morning I had to get the train to them. They wouldn't pick use up or drop off.

Terrible!!!!! Ruined my trip
Cons: I got to the airport after having reserved a car the night before and was told that I had no car reservation because I was within some BS reservation window. I was like, thanks for emailing me or calling me and letting me know that before I got to the airport and apparently they don't "recieve" emails or phones numbers until confirmed. Convenient. This place is a scam you should avoid at all costs

Cons: Arrived only to find that no cars were available because the rental agency closed down shop at this location. I will be contacting Ace directly for refund and compensation for the new rental I had to go get but which someone would have notified me!

Terrible rental car
Cons: My reservation is at 9pm and I arrived at YVR airport around 9:30pm. I went out and look for the ACE shuttle and there is no sign of it, so I called the 800 numbers, they said they closed at 9pm. So, I have to take a Taxi to the hotel. What kind of rental company close at 9pm???
Next day around 8am, I took the Taxi to the car rental company and no where can be found because they called themself Discount rental car not ACE rental car. So, I walked in to the office and talked to one of the staff about my situation that I have a reservation last night because my flight delay so I was not able to come to get the car and she said the car have been given to someone else so no car available for me and I have to wait and to speak to the manager. The manager went out to pick up customers from the airport. The manager finally came back from the airport and help me to get the car and took almost an hour to get all the paperwork and car ready for me. It is terrible car company, they are not located at the airport. It is about 5 minutes ride from the airport and there is no sign said ACE only Discount rental car.
Pros: Location was near where we were staying so walking over was very convenient. We were upgraded to a 7-seater for free which was a big plus. The car itself only had 3500km on it so pretty much driving a new car. Needed to extend the rental an additional day and had zero problems doing it over the phone.
Cons: I returned the car on a Sunday when they were closed and instructions on how to do that weren't great. Also, there's limited spaces available to drop off the car but I got lucky and grabbed the last one. It would have been great to get some more directions on how to return the car and what happens if there's no spaces available in the parking garage.

Tricky to find
Pros: Did upgrade to a premium.
Cons: Off airport shuttle and attendants were fast and courteous. However, drop off site is tricky to find near a highway cloverleaf area. Missing a quick exit and turn can cost time and frustration when returning the car.

Pros: Car was good. Service was good quick and easy. Very nice feature to have them sell gas for 1.00 a litre as a service with the rental, and the need to not return it with a full tank.
Cons: Location sucks, have to shuttle to and from airport. Everything else pretty good.

Efficient return but drop off area is inconvenient
Pros: The person who reviewed my return was nice and the process was efficient
Cons: Enterprise driver dropped off customers to a lot that is closed to the airport and you have to walk into the airport yourself.
The driver was not friendly and he seemed like a deadbeat who doesn't like his job. A great way to end your journey with Enterprise.
Pros: Dropping off the car at the airport took just a few minutes. Great service.

Rates charged not the same as the rate booked.
Pros: The condition of the car was good
Cons: 1) The staff we dealt with wasn't helpful.
2) Never clearly answered our questions on insurance
3) The daily rate charged to us was $90/day whereas the rate we booked was about $49/day. Didn't have enough time to discuss because we were in a hurry and a not so friendly staff didn't help matters

Beware of CarRentals.com Avis rates; charged $400 above reserved price
Pros: Car was fine. Service was not.
Cons: Total failure / bait-and-switch pricing. Kayak promoted a rate of $89 at CarRentals.com for an Avis car, which was confirmed by Avis.
When I picked up the car in Vancouver Airport, Avis refused to honor that rate, telling me it was CarRentals.com's mistake. They charged me $478.11, over 5 times the reserved rate. They kept claiming it was a 'well known' problem with CarRentals.com and took no responsibility.
Pros: Don't miss this gem! Staff is friendly, great service, great rates, new and clean vehicles.

Small company that has value if the market price is too high.
Pros: Car was new and comfortable.
Cons: Car was not in the best cleanness, and they have gave me the gas at 3/4 - when I brought back it was at almost full tank, but they did not give me any credit for that like other companies do such as Enterprise or Hertz.

Didnt honor reservation, zero attempt at helping us
Pros: Shuttle driver was pleasant during the drive.
Cons: Landed at YVR after an international flight, took the shuttle and waited in a very slow-moving line. Finally spoke to someone about our reservation and we were told that my Visa debit card (used to make the reservation) would not be valid for payment - only Visa credit cards were accepted. They also would not accept my Discover card, and since my girlfriend didn't qualify as the primary driver they wouldn't take her Visa credit card either. We didn't understand why they wouldn't accept her card even if she wasn't driving, but were told "it's company policy." We explained that we had just flown in from the US and would be stranded without a car if they didn't honor our reservation, and were asked if we wanted a ride back to the airport. No suggestions, no offer to call anyone to see what could be done, just basically told us to leave. I tried to go back inside to ask more questions but was completely ignored.
Since it was a busy holiday weekend, ended up having to pay almost double elsewhere for a last minute reservation.
Nice company policy, you just told a $400 reservation to walk out the door. Hope that works out for you.

Cons: Despite having a reservation- no car available and no attempt to find an alternative and no apology. I will not book with Europcar again.

Cons: Discount cars had run out of vehicles and we're planning on not picking up waiting customers from the airport. I had to put pressure on them to do so as there were a couple of families with kids and babies waiting anxiously.
Phone at pick up point was not working.
The process took ages and was a stressful start to our family holiday.

Cons: Shuttle took very long to get to airport, when i arrived at car rental place, they told me they ran out of cars and would not be able to rent me a car even though I had a reservation. They then told me to walk to Enterprise 10 minute walk down the street in the pouring rain. Manager was incredibly rude. Shuttle driver was however very nice. Overall, terrible experience.

Terrible service at Discount
Pros: This rental was serviced by Discount Car Rental. The rental counter was incredibly slow and inexperienced. Worse than any car rental experience I've had. They showed my rental as a day shorter than what I'd booked with kayak, and while they said it would not be in issue on return, the guy returning his car next to me was being asked to pay an additional day for the same weird error in date. I allowed 20 min to return my vehicle, and even though I was the only customer when I arrived, they still took so long that my bus to seattle was closing the door as they dropped me off. Almost missed my coach and subsequently my flight. Would never use europcar or discount in yvr again, regardless of price.

Great car, very slow pick up from airport
Pros: Great car, very slow pick up from airport. Fortunately, they only had an a credit card. We had a high-end jeep that was fully loaded with everything. You have XM radio, navigation, it was extremely comfortable. I have a sunroof etc. Gas mileage was good. Was a great car. Check in and check out process was fine. People are friendly.
Cons: It took over an hour to have the rental agency pick us up at the airport. Some was related to traffic, but most was related to confusion by the pick up driver. They said they would not post the deposit to the credit card, what they did.

Excellent car, very poor service
Pros: The car was easy to drive and comfortable, absolutely no issues from when we drove out of the centre until we drove back. Overall quite decent value for money.
Cons: The service especially at the start was dreadful. Firstly, when we phoned to ask where we should be collected from at the airport, the directions given were poor. Then at the centre, they repeatedly tried to give us a car we didn't want, (we could see the car we reserved and pointed this out), the reason it seemed because they would have to move another car to get our one out, and they had misplaced the keys. When we eventually got the car we reserved, our attendant put the wrong end date into the computer (despite the fact he had our booking confirmation) and charged us for one day too few. We pointed this out after paying, and he said we would just have to pay an extra $65 on return, which he wrote on our form and we accepted. On return, we were first asked to pay the full amount, which obviously we didn't do since we had already paid for all but one day. Then we were asked to pay $82 for this day, which we agreed was correct but wasn't what we had written on our form from the first attendant.

No Car for me!
Cons: Arrived with my family and told they have no cars, my reservation was made 4 days prior. No notice, no solution, just ' Sorry no car for you"
Cons: When I arrived I was quoted a price of C$680 (CAD) when I had originally been quoted C$420 (CAD) when I reserved it. When I questioned the woman told me the price was the price. Awful experience. I will not be using this service again.
