Hard SellCons:Everything was fine with the rental except for the hard sell to upgrade the car the coverage. The woman who checked us in clearly did not understand that I wanted the rental I agreed to and did not want to be repeatedly offered upsell products. I politely declined her aupsell attemps and became genuinely pissed off when she did not stop trying to upsell me. The experience was very unpleasant and I will be reluctant to use Budget in the future. It is absurd for your staff to ttry to upsell me a vehicle more than 3X more expensive than the car I reserved. If I wanted the luxury vehicle I would have reserved the luxury vehicle and I did not appreciate being made to feel cheap in front of my family. Very poor behavior. Your people should ask once and then leave it alone, I dont think being badgered to upgrade is acceptable behavior.Reviewed 14 Dec. 2017

Free upgrade wasn't free at allPros:We liked the convertible Mustang we had for 10 days in Vancouver and on Vancouver IslandCons:I made a reservation through kayak for $495, at first the gentleman checked us out for over $1600! I called AAA and indeed I didn't need an extra $40 the day of protection. And he said he would upgrade us at no charge to the mustang convertible. My 14-year-old son was stoked and we told him repeatedly how grateful we were. I returned it half a day early with a full tank ready to check out and the bill is now 1100… They had charged us for the upgrade! The front desk told me too bad and the manager literally shoved my bill back at me! He told me it wasn't his problem to call customer service and walked away. Incredulously I asked for his managers information and he proceeded to get on the phone to call security. When that didn't deter me he finally took just over $200 off the bill seen clearly there must've been a misunderstanding. I can't believe how duped and manipulated I felt. And how appaulled at their unwillingness to be compassionate or understanding and to instantly blame me.Reviewed 16 Jul. 2017

Wrong information!!!Cons:I wanted to rent a car with this company. Lady on customer service line said to me that they charge a deposit for foreigner debit cards 350 CAD. I said ok, that is fine. I made up all my plans. When I went to pick up a car, they wanted deposit 750 CAD!!! I ask them, how it is possible. He said that they take a deposit 350 only for credit cards and 750 for debit cards. I went mad because I asked that lady on phone two times for the price, and she confirmed the exact amount for foreigner debit card. We rang the customer service line again and explained our problem. They said the same thing like lady before. We went back and ask again but nothing happened. Another thing was that I made already an insurance for a car earlier and waste my money :-/ Thanks God for other company on the airport, which rent us a car (deposit 200 CAD) and we did not miss our appointment! Only thing is that I could not use my insurance for the other company.Reviewed 2 Oct. 2017

Poor customer servicePros:It was easy to pick up and drop off the carCons:At pick up I asked about availability of a GPS, after some conversing with his colleagues, the representative went on to try and charge about $80 extra for my rental, when I noticed (a second before swiping my card), he claimed that I asked for a fancy car with a GPS, which of course I didn't, I just wanted to know about availability of GPS device to rent. Then he went on convincing me that it wouldn't be worth my while to rent a GPS device etc. Bottom line, he tried to charge me a significant amount extra without even asking me! Car was dirty at pick up, both inside and outside, when I mentioned it at drop off, I received a "sorry" response and then they charged for three missing liters of gasReviewed 22 Sep. 2017

upsellingCons:deliberate misrepresentation in order to upset. said a basic Camry was available and recommended a Mustang for much more money, when a Mustang was declined offered a four wheel drive Ford when that was declined offered another vehicle with "rear view camera" and GPS. When that was declined it was accepted that I was not going to upgrade - I received a Malibu with a rear view camera as I ordered initially. Obvious disappointment from the agent - expect that from less reputable rental car agencies.Reviewed 26 May 2017

Some things just didn't workPros:Car was in excellent condition, drop off was easy.Cons:Contrary to what the WEB site indicated I was unable to modify my reservation when I found my flight was arriving several hours before originally planned. The car I booked wasn't available and I ended up with a ponderous Toyota van which while big and comfortable was almost impossible to park in the tight parking spaces in Vancouver. I had to opt for valet parking because the self parking option was way to challenging in those tight spaces. I also was forced to pay considerably more than what I had agreed to when I booked it online, like double because the size of car I wanted wasn't available. Probably won't go with Budget again.Reviewed 16 Apr. 2018

Not what was promisedPros:Ford Espace was a nice carCons:I got there and they said that winter tires were not included and charged me an extra $40/day for it. I mean come on, winter tires are mandatory in Vancouver, BC, but they don't include it in the price??? And then they didn't even bother to come out and inspect the car with me. I didn't see it until I left the dark parking garage already, but there was a crack in the windshield in the upper left corner. mI am just waiting for them to charge me for that as well. That's ridiculous. Overall, NOT HAPPY AT ALL!!!!!Reviewed 7 Mar. 2018

Disappointed by the service at the airportPros:The car was great, pretty much brand new, clean and in excellent condition.Cons:I paid about 3 times more than the quoted price for the car which I was quite upset about. I understood that there would be additional costs at the counter including insurance, extra driver etc but the break down of the costs was poorly explained by the assistant. I felt very overwhelmed and a bit harrassed when the person also tried to upsell me another car. I didn’t feel this was appropriate when my decision making skills were impaired after travelling for 20 hours. Although the car was brand new and in excellent condition, it would have been helpful if someone explained the features or included a manual in the car as it was a very modern/technical vehicle.Reviewed 7 May 2018
