Formal complaintCons:Hello. Please take this as formal complaint and demand for refund. I booked with kayak after trolling the net for best deal. I booked for 300 something usd. Actual costs 676 usd. Whilst fees and taxes are standard on car booking disclaimers they need to be reasonable. Fees were 370 odd dollars making your quote misleading and deceptive. My travel insurance always covers car rental insurance so I never take this up. The rental company refused to give me the car unless I paid it, effectively doubling the cost. This is unacceptable. I have booked cars all over the world and never had this problem. Kayak should not represent an agency with this policy and I therefore hold you responsible. Further the Honda Civic I booked does not even exist in their fleet so again diceet on their part I received a Hyundai with the bumpers falling off. Please process refund immediately to avoid a social medi beat upReviewed 17 Jan. 2016

Economy rent a cPros:No muchCons:First of all I was forced to accept " Third party insurance " otherwise they would not rent me a car. At that point at the Airport all other car rentals were more expensive. I was made to leave a $1,200 deposit as guarantee in case of an accident. All the above may be normal, BUT I was also forced to sign a Blank form, we I accepted risponsability for an accident that had never happened. This was a form that you really should fill and sign if an accident happened. But this people required you to sign it at the time you pick up the car. Also I received a dirty car, which had just been returned by someone else, with sand all over, a trunk full of leaves and dirt. The gas tabk was not full but 5/8 they called it. Very difficult thing to match when returning the car. So either you returned with more gas than you owed or they would charge you extra. The car was terrible with scartces and bumps all over. I could probably have got in a couples of accidents and would have not noticed.Reviewed 6 May 2016

Sketchy experiencePros:It seems like I got my money back at this point and I wouldn't normally write a bad review, but it's more a warning to anyone reading that renting a car isn't the best idea in the DR. Just rent a taxi.Cons:First, they said that they didn't have a car for us to take. Then they told me someone with my name had already taken the car. After I showed him that they just had the same first name, but they were a completely different person, then they told me that the insurance I bought on Kayak wasn't valid in the DR and that we needed to buy their insurance so it went from the rental being $220 with insurance to being $472 for the same amount of time with their "special insurance". Needless to say, we cancelled the reservation and got a taxi.Reviewed 20 Apr. 2016

Pros:Really negative experienceCons:All of their cars use cheap wire tires so one of our wheels got flat on the road. Road assistance changed it to the spare tire and that spare tire also go flat. They changed our car and send us one that had been hit to the side of the passenger door - the doors didn’t open or close easily and the a/ c threw out lots of water underneath the passenger seat legs. A total disaster. I asked for reimbursement of some sort or at least a discount voucher for all the issues. Customer service said there was nothing they could do. Terrible rental experience- from the cars they offer to the customer service itself . Also once you get to the counter they charge you an absurd amount of money ($250 for a week) for mandatory insurance in case of damage to another car. They are ripping off customers . Stay away from this placeReviewed 2 Dec. 2019

Pros:NOTHING!! IT WAS A COMPLETE RIP-OFF!!! DO NOT RENT FROM ECONOMY!! DO NOT RENT FROM AMERIRENT, WHICH IS AFFILIATED WITH ECONOMY! Wouldn't rent to me unless I bought liability and collision insurance, for which they wanted $840 on top of the $198 rental fee for the car for 13 days. I refused, and we went through a 2-hour haggling process where I kept refusing...mainly because I had ALREADY purchased the Allianz collision and liability protection online, when i booked the car. Their justification: A small line in the online reservation that said (approximately) "There may be various local charges which must be paid at the point of rental.' From that, they justified charging criminal prices. Ultimately, we couldn't argue with them forever. We finally skipped the collision coverage entirely, and received a 'discounted rate' for liability insurance of 'only' $240. RIP-OFF PRICING TACTICS!! i kept refusing the insurance, and polled several other rental counters...but they were all supporting each other by claiming cars were unavailable or asking outrageous prices. DO NOT RENT FROM ECONOMY!! DO NOT RENT FROM AMERIRENT, WHICH IS AFFILIATED WITH ECONOMY!Cons:An honest quote with fair pricing would resolve this problem entirely. DO NOT RENT FROM ECONOMY!! DO NOT RENT FROM AMERIRENT, WHICH IS AFFILIATED WITH ECONOMY! Classic bait and switch pricing tactics.Reviewed 18 Mar. 2021

Pros:Tried to force me to pay $300 more for liability insurance that was "required by law." I stood my ground and they relented, but not after wasting hours of time going back and forth.Cons:Car smelled like cigarettesReviewed 19 Mar. 2021

Cons:Do not book with this company. Not only did I not get the car I requested I had to pay extra 570 dollars for a beat up gigantic fan that they held 3,0000 US dollars in credit card deposit. They said they would replace the car the next day but we spent a LOT OF MONEY on gas for the one they didn’t exchange. Do not get ripped off as we (and other people did who were being helped by another attendant.) You can’t get through to customer service either. Don’t let them direct you to this company. Stick with Avis or budget especially if you don’t speak Spanish!Reviewed 3 Jun. 2021

Got a totally beat up car and had trouble communicPros:Got an upgrade SUV (reservation was for medium sized car)Cons:The original car (medium size) was tremendiously beaten up (lot of damage which made me not accept that) but the upgrade (SUV) also had a lot of damage. Personel spoke mainly Spanish and could not not speak much English and I could not speak Spanish at all: hard to communicate. One would expect that personel speaks multiple languages (i.p. common languages like English) in such jobs.Reviewed 31 Oct. 2016

Good Car - Hidden feesPros:The car had bangs all around, which was actually a good thing considering the traffic and way people drive in DR. I wouldn't want a perfect car over there.Cons:I bought insurance with Allianze at the time I booked my car, and when I went to pick up the car they told me that insurance was not affiliated with them, and I had to either put down a $3000 deposit, or pay $20 and a $800 deposit. That was very unexpected, and really turned me down from the whole experience.Reviewed 9 May 2016

Renting from the DRCons:When you reserve online, the rate is about $12/day. Once you get there you find out insurance is mandatory so the price sky rockets to $40/day. Something should be done so that they numbers on the reservation actually come close to what the actual price is. My reservation was for a little over $100 and I paid over $400 (for 10 days) for a little tiny hyundai.Reviewed 30 Nov. 2015

Don't believe the priceCons:Everything about this reservation was a lie. They wanted an extra insurance fee plus a $1200. When I was told this, I didn't take the car and because of this I got a $100 chargeReviewed 16 Nov. 2015
