Pros: I told them I am severely asthmatic. When I walked into the room I immediately smelled musty old rug that was cleaned at least dozens of times and exhausted its useful life a long time ago. I went back to the front desk and told them needed a different room for medical reasons and willing to pay more. The front desk person and the day manager told me that they did not have availability without any serious they said no without any consideration and force me to sleep in this room where I ended up wheezing all night. They also lied to me that all the rooms were renovated at the same time and were the same. And it turns out that there were at least a few rooms available.

Pros: It was immaculate and staff were extremely helpful and polite. It was 5 minutes from the train station and pretty much in the heart of Edinburgh so getting to places were quick and easy.
Cons: Only downside was one of the lifts were broken but the other one was only round the corner. They also didn't have a designated smoking area and had to go down to the bottom floor and to the front entrance of the hotel to smoke.

Cons: everything was great apart from the fact they had shoved two single beds together to resemble a double bed which wasn't appropriate for romantic night away. Beds anyway weren’t very comfortable at all. Ordered a mojito at the in-hotel bar, sat at the window and awaited my cocktail, the bar man placed it on the table stating he didn’t have mint leaves so he replaced it with basil leaves which was revolting, instead of allowing me to change my drink etc he used something that doesn’t go in a cocktail specially for the price of £8 something, wasn’t fair.

Pros: My husband and I stayed a few nights here for our belated honeymoon. The staff went above and beyond during our stay, congratulating us on our nuptials and allowing us to celebrate with some complimentary drinks. Unfortunately my husband fell ill, and required bed rest. Again, the staff were more then helpful, asking if they could bring him tea, and checking in on him whenever I went downstairs. We would definitely stay here again! Absolutely beautiful rooms and amazing service

Pros: My husband and I stayed a few nights here for our belated honeymoon. The staff went above and beyond during our stay, congratulating us on our nuptials and allowing us to celebrate with some complimentary drinks. Unfortunately my husband fell ill, and required bed rest. Again, the staff were more then helpful, asking if they could bring him tea, and checking in on him whenever I went downstairs. We would definitely stay here again! Absolutely beautiful rooms and amazing service

Cons: 1. For a royal mile suite, main bathroom was standard. Overly spacious living room really could’ve spared space for a more comfortable bathroom befitting suite.
2. Website advertised kids eat free. However, when we ordered meals for the kids via room service, we were told it’s not free. Extremely deceptive and off putting of brand.
3. I emailed the hotel 1 week in advance of 4-day stay and asked for milk, orange juice, and water in room stocked and included room mini fridge. Email from customer service acknowledged request and even confirmed we still wanted wine and beer - a nice catch! However, when we arrived, we were informed juice and milk not included. False service promise should’ve not been made.
Room service food was Not worth price (pizza, burger, and kids chicken meal were only ok but far more expensive than eaterery options all around).

We arrived in Edinburgh 3 hours before check in and headed straight to Intercontinental to drop our bags off so we could go and explore. Despite being 3 hours early, we were given the key to our room at no extra charge! The hotel was modern, clean and everything we needed was provided. We absolutely loved our stay here, we’ve booked to come back already & we can’t wait!!

I travel alot internationally and truthfully feel that this was one of the best hotel experiences I've had in my life. Being that I do travel alot, it means the world when you can sleep peacefully in extreme comfort. From arrival to departure the George was a wonderful experience. I highly recommend it and will return there when in Edinburgh. A gentleman named " Willy" was a gem, very helpful. Thank You.

Pros: We had a third friend join us and the hotel staff added a bed in the same room with no hassle or additional costs. The staff on the day gave us good directions to local venues and sites (even annotating a map for us) and were very approachable and friendly overall. Could not ask for any better.

Breakfast is well worth the money, had everything you could want and an absolute must! Room was compact but very clean and bed was comfortable. You are able to leave bags for later pick-up after check out which was great for us as we left on an evening train. Would absolutely stay here again.

Pros: Hilton are our Hotel Group of choice. I just thought this one to be overly expensive probably only justifying itself because of its proximity to the Old Town and the Royal Mile. The bedroom and bathroom were small and the rest of the hotel just felt like an apartment building. There was no real old-world warmth.
As you would expect the staff were very friendly and helpful.My final gripe was that the parking was public and some distance away down a hill and some very steep steps.This,I concede however,is probably the case with most Edinburgh hotels.

Cons: The room was VERY unclean, it was clear it hadn't been cleaned from the previous guest - items still in the bin, empty can left on window sill - this really let the hotel down as it was a lovely room but it was unfortunate we had to do a clean up before unpacking our own stuff. I would have reported this to staff but they were either busy or not there on the occassions we passed through reception and I had taken photos of the mess but unfortunately deleted them by mistake. Also, the informal set up of the reception is not ideal, two members of staff basically standing with thier backs to customers as the desk is at right angle to the front door instead of horizontal. We arrived and were not noticed straight away due to the set up; I hasten to add, this is not the fault of the staff but it makes no sense to have staff facing the opposite way from where customers enter. Within a couple of minutes of arrival, a large group arrived and it became clear the infornmal set-up was not good.....other customers wandering around looking for the reception as the staff were busy - a traditional reception would have made it much easier for people to know what was going on and who were staff and who were not - access to the floors the rooms were on could have been easily got due to the set-up which obviously is a security concern.

Pros: Room was clean and well presented, service was excellent all easy and not a problem, perfect location short walk from everything you need including a 24 hour car park
Cons: Small things like the shower base wasn’t grippy and I nearly slipped and hurt myself, plus the room was really warm being in the basement but the skylight shut itself at night leaving the room very hot even with the heating off

Pros: Very good location in the new town of Edinburgh. We had a massive room with amazing views. Breakfast was really good and had a good variety. Beautiful hotel in a very convenient location.
Cons: We requested a cab to be called to head to the airport as it was the 1st of January and wasn’t sure about public transport. This was organized the day before. However in the morning of 1st January when we checked with the staff present we were told he’s normally not in that role so he doesn’t know and he doesn’t know where or how to check. This was a bit disappointing.

Cons: This is not a four star hotel by any standard. The bathroom was tiny and had to wedge sideways into the shower. The sink was the size of a cup. There was old musty carpet in the room. I was in fourth floor with no lift, and was not told at check in.

The room doors are terribly loud when folk let the close on their own; some dampening on the frames would stop the loud banging that echos down the staircase. Pros: The hotel is an old building, the floor in our bedroom had quite sank, bit weird though. It is a basic hotel, and so is the breakfast. Staff is friendly. We spent most of the time out, so this was just a place to sleep. Its location couldn't have been better! We had the Christmas market across the road, it was noisy, but every night at 10 pm the Christmas market noise (mainly from attractions) shut down, so noise was never a problem.

Funny British ways about electricity - you have to put a hotel key in to a special reader inside the room to turn on the electricity in the room. They really don't want you to leave the lights on when you're not there, I guess.

Pros: Great price. Perfect location to walk with luggage from the train station (less than 5 minute walk) and close to a bus stop (less than 10 minute walk) to the airport. Incredibly helpful staff. Clean rooms, well furnished. So pleased.

Cons: We stayed in two different rooms. The second room had a bathroom that needed some work. It was clean, but some towel bars were showing rust, and the tile needed to be re-caulked.

Shower didn’t work because of ‘pressure issues’. The same ‘pressure issues’ also meant the the hot water failed to come out of the taps unless they were fully opened for at least five minutes and then it took a good 15 minutes to fill the shallow bath. The maintenance man said this was always an issue on the third floor particularly in the morning because everyone was using the water.
Husband had to rescue something from under the sagging couch and wish he’d left it there - disgustingly filthy and left us feeling queasy that we’d been in the same room as that level of filth. Probably not been moved since the 90’s...
Relative to other hotels it’s a cheaper option but not cheap enough - I’d have paid a bit more for a consistent hot water supply and a room that had been deep cleaned in the last decade.

Cons: The toilet flush was really weak, the sink drain smelled sometimes with the water and the shower leaked water out the side of the glass.
