Pros: I like the car they assign to me and they have a good customer service

Cons: I had issues with my flight and had to re-schedule the date and location of pick up and Hertz was not helpful in facilitating this. There were cheap cars available but they would not help me book them

Pros: Ease of drop off.
Cons: Car had multiple dings and scratches which were not reviewed with attendant at pick up.

Pros: Easy and fast. The counter personal when we picked up the car was super friendly and helpful!!!! The drop off experience was great and fast, overall it was the best car rental experience I've had!

No CARS. Waited 2hr.
Pros: The car was clean. people where nice and returning it went ok.
Cons: No cars to fulfill reservations, had to wait for cars to be returned, processed and cleaned. So no time estimate of how long the wait would be. And to make matters worse cars returning go to THREE rental companies. So we were in line twice in effect. They had to email me my receipt when i returned it because they couldn't complete my transaction, they hadn't entered it right to begin with.

Pros: It was all so EASY!
Cons: The smell of the car. I guess it's just the "new car" smell, which was kind of toxic. It was headache inducing.

Needlessly poor customer service
Pros: The car itself was in good condition, clean, a decent rental.
Cons: 1) There were no cars for my rental in the lot when I arrived. 2) After 20 minutes, I had to find someone to tell them that I (and other people waiting) needed a car. 3) No one in the parking lot came to check in with me (or three other people waiting) that they would have a car for us. 4) When someone else asked for a manager, that person deflected saying they couldn't go get one. 5) The person checking me out at the gate practically gave an eye roll when I asked them to please record the dent that was on the front of the car. They also seemed frustrated that one of the rental associates had given me a larger car in lieu of the fact that they didn't have anything available in the size I had requested. In short, I think there was really bad communication between the people on the lot driving cars and the people in the main office. All it would have taken to make customers happy was a quick heads up from people at the sales desk that there were no cars available and the customers would have to wait. Communication again was poor when a line of us formed to get a car and no one told us why there were no cars nor how long we would be waiting. One of the other customers got aggravated and her interaction with another sales rep was also bad/unfortunate in that they didn't try to help her out. Maybe that Hertz office was just having a rough day, but they have some work to do to create a better customer experience.

They did not have cars to fill my reservation nor the 3 in front of me
Pros: I never got the car
Cons: I was told that my car might be available in 30 minutes, but after another customer told me she had been waiting for 90 minutes, I booked a reservation with another company. I made my reservation several weeks in advance, and I'm also a Hertz Gold member.

Had a great rental experience with Hertz
Pros: The customer service at the counter was excellent, from the time I picked up the car, and when I returned it, I left my phone in the car and had to go back I went to the counter the ladies were able to locate the car that had been taken they cleaned and after 30 minutes a supervisor had found my phone, I will be renting from Hertz again whenever I need a rental.

Pricey 2 Day Weekend Rental
Pros: Car drove fine; no problems with it.
Cons: Sorry, but $178 for a 2 day rental over a weekend is not a good deal. 24K miles on the car seems like a second tier provider's car.

Long wait for pickup at Hertz office at OAKLAND airport
Cons: We were made to wait nearly 30 minutes at Hertz counter at OAKLAND airport despite a confirmation from months back. Apparently the reason given was that sufficient managers were not available in the morning.

Pros: The car rode smooth and very comfy.
Cons: The first one had a wheel alignment problem which caused me to switch out but as far as the 2nd vehicle goes I would have rather picked up from sfo for the same price.

Pros: The rental process was quick and efficient. The return was quick and easy. Great lady who checked me in on the return. wish I recalled her name.
Cons: I picked the wrong car. The Nissan sucked. It's ready to be pulled off duty and sold. Or service the damn car so it doesn't drive like a Chevy Vega.

Car good, personnel sucks
Pros: I got an upgrade and I enjoyed the car.
Cons: The agent who unfortunately processed me was rude and made it clear she didn't want to be there. She hardly said a word to me and assumed that I knew what to do. After she keyed in some things she just looked at me and I realized I had to sign something. What kind of customer service is that. Good thing I waited as she gave me the receipt, which I didn't know was coming. This lady should not be working with people. I hardly use Hertz, but this lady made for a bad experience.

Pros: The Car was clean & return was fast.
Cons: The up charges were insane! At initial checkout we DID NOT approve the extra services they offer however upon return they charged us for them. When I called the Hertz customer service they said they could only take the counter employees word for it. In other words they typed accepted when we denied the services so we still pay. Even on a full tank of gas for return the still charge a gas fee & I had to call 3 Times just to get a representative wouldn't talk back & hang up on me. All in all I'd never return to Hertz. Our initial plan from spending around $200 went to $400 ($600 with deposit) after the deposit was returned.

Good after pick up
Pros: Drop off was easy
Cons: The line to pick up the car in Oakland was excruciatingly long. The desk was understaffed. After the flight, it was frustrating and we were about 4th in line. I can't imagine how long the last person in line was there. Also, since I booked the car through a travel website, we could not change vehicles. We didn't realize the car I booked would be difficult for my disabled vet husband to get in and out of. They would not change it to a higher profile car without just paying full price for the higher car with no refund for the one we had. Disappointing. I'm missing the human touch companies used to provide.

Great rental but poor return experience
Pros: Reasonably priced full-size sedan which was in good shape (~20k miles) and clean.
Cons: Return process was not clear and the lady at the desk was quite short with me despite me clearly being confused and just trying to understand the process. Service left a bad taste in my mouth.

Cons: My flight got rerouted to SFO and their rebooking fee was over $480 so I was unable to experience the rental due to their absurd rebooking fee.

Pros: Went for the price only
Cons: Terrible car, pulled to the right. Place was busy, i guess, so had to take a dirty car. And, at the drop off there was an additional charge for tax, which wasn't clearly stated upon renting. Not worth the hassle of Ubering from airport and back to get to this location

Pros: Overall the car was great. It got good gas mileage and was dependable.
Cons: The cruise control let the car go pick up speed to fast going down inclines. (Didn't work as good as mine). But we did fine.

Pros: Easy to pick the car up, and the car itself was great. Nissan Altima that was clean and drove great. We drove a good amount and did not have any issues.
Cons: None, no issues with the pickup of the car at Oakland.

Hours of delays
Pros: The car, once we got it.
Cons: It took over an hour in line to be told they had no cars and we would need to wait an additional 1-2 hours. Employees were rude other than the manager who had control of all the vehicles and who were helped and in what order. Not a way to start any trip, felt like a hostage for those hours. Their offer of assistance was to rent with someone else, as we had prepaid was not an option for us. Tons of people all over the rental agency were in the same boat. It was a circus. Everything else was a normal rental car experience.

I didn't get the car I paid for.
Pros: Service was exceptionally friendly. Car itself drove well, was good and comfortable. Pickup and dropoff were relatively easy, quick, and convenient.
Cons: I paid in advance for a full-size car, but when I arrived there were none available. I would have had to wait at least 20 minutes to who knows how long (according to the person who helped me) for the right car. I got a lesser car, but since I'd paid in advance, she couldn't refund me the difference between the rates for what I paid for and what I got, which is ridiculous.

No car. Terrible service.
Cons: I arrived to pick up the rental I'd reserved so I could get to a job interview. After watching the employee make multiple calls, I figured out that there was no car there and she was looking for one from other (not nearby) locations. She never bothered to alert me to the issue on her own, and waved me off when I tried to ask her what was going on and how long I might need to wait. I told her I didn't care if all they had was something smaller--I was happy to be flexible since I needed to get on the road for my interview. Other than rolling her eyes at me, the agent ignored me. I tried to talk to another agent. She was equally unconcerned. I understand that sometimes things are beyond employees' control. People had not returned cars on time, and I'm sure that's frustrating for the Hertz employees. However, a polite apology and a little concern for a huge inconvenience would have gone a long way. One of the worst customer experiences ever.

Pros: Not getting a car
Cons: I made the reservation online after carefully searching for Oakland Airport. However, my reservation was not at the airport. It was downtown. It was for 6:30 but downtown closes at 6:00. The airport location would not honor the rate. I chose another company and i am really ticked at kayak for such a fiasco. I want a refund.

Oakland pick up
Pros: Staff was amazing at check in and exiting the facility. The van had enough damage it needed to be noted and they were amazing even apologized which wasn't necessary. Great experience.

Not what I expected
Pros: Friendly desk staff at pick up. Car ran great. Attendant did a thorough check of the outside of the car when I picked it up.
Cons: The car looked like it had been in an accident right and immediately given to me; Taillight was busted, scrapes all over the car; it supposedly was the only car they had left. Pick up took forever(1 1/2 hours) as well and I was the only customer in the building when I got there.

Cons: Pick was not possible at time offered - location was closed. After multiple calls to the company they offered no other response that "we are unable to assist you because you book through a third party, so they are the only ones able to access/modify your reservation"

Beware of Hertz Rental locations from the Oakland Airport
Pros: Nothing at this point.
Cons: I thought Expedia would save me a some money. This was not the case. The Hertz location for my car rental was about 30 minutes from the airport in Downtown Oakland and NOT the Hertz location at the Airport. Considering I am not from Oakland, I did not find this out until the Hertz person at the airport told me to get on a shuttle to the area where all rental car companies are only to find out my rental location was downtown. Then my wife and I had to get back on the shuttle with our luggage back to the airport then take a $45.00 30 minute taxi ride to the rental location downtown only to wait about 45 minutes for the car to get ready. The money I saved vs my time using Expedia to book a car rental was not worth it and cost me more than booking without using Expedia I doubt I will use Expedia to book a car again and most importantly let other people to carefully research what they are buying and not buy into all advertising hype

Wait at Hertz in Oakland
Pros: Nice car reasonable price personable staff unlimited mileage Reduction in price due to early drop off(ordered for 3 days, returned at 2 and paid for 2)
Cons: Few staff at location so my wait was nearly an hour. A bit less at return Car was reported to have 1/4 tank of gas...it was closer to 1/8

Pros: I reserved this car believing the location was the Oakland Airport. It was actually 15 minutes from the airport and I needed to take an Uber from the airport to pick up the car. Once there, the pickup was fast and the attendant was friendly. The car only had 700 miles on it (practically brand new). The cost was very reasonable. To drop off the car, we once again had to take an Uber to the airport from the rental location, but that was not a big inconvenience, and everything worked out great.

Horrible long wait to get car
Pros: Not much
Cons: We've had reservations for over a month only to get there and find out there were no cars available for anyone except Gold members! They were waiting on cars to come in and couldn't tell us how long it would be. Several people in front of us waiting. We were told after initial check-in that we would only have to wait 15-20 minutes (I asked). It turned out to be over an hour! The worst part was not knowing if even after an hour when they would have a car for us, as they did not even know. Another guy had an appointment at Pixar and was very distressed that they had no answers for him either. I asked someone that worked there if this was normal and was told "sometimes". That is not acceptable and I will never rent a car at least at the Oakland cite with Hertz.

Cons: Rental reservation was at 6pm, which was also the time hey closed. Without any notification, I show up shortly after 6 (in the rain) to a locked building. Customer service could not supply another car at another time or location without increasing the rate 3 fold. At the very least I was able to get a refund, but ended up booking a last minute reservation elsewhere for a higher rate.

I was billed twice.
Pros: The car was OK, and Hertz at the Airport was fine, but I got billed twice. I am trying to sort it out. The site I used was a bit confusing and somehow I got billed for a car I did not use.

Cons: Couldn't find the location was on phone got 10 minutes untill they picked up had to get other transportation to get to my appointment the rental park was further than my appointment lol they said take the Bart to rental yard lol

Pros: Toyota Yaris was good little car, speedy enough, good on gas, a bit small for 2 suitcases tho. Pickup site away from airport was considerably cheaper than airport pickup site but required BART and Uber to get there.
Cons: 1. Pick-up location: chec-kin on ground floor of downtown site, get car on 4th floor, going thru pay garage. Car return was quite confusing. 2. Yaris had door key only [no remote key] and manual sideview mirrors. Trunk area barely accommodated 2 small suitcases.

Bad service, multiple locations
Pros: I'm still dealing with Hertz and my trips been over for 24 hours now. My girlfriend and I rented a car to go to the Grand Canyon over the holiday. I had a reservation for noon at the Oakland Hertz on Webster street. When I got there I was told (along with others that had been waiting ) that there were no cars available. This is the 2nd time this has happened to me while renting from this location. They told me come back and after getting some lunch and walking around, there was a car available for me. The car was fine, no issues there. I rented the car for a week and when the car was due in the location was actually closed for the new years holiday at 1pm. Well there was someone there but they said they could not take my car anyway. They sent me to the downtown location, which was also closed but had a drop off. I dropped the car off, put the keys in the drop box and figured I was done finally. I woke up today and another 60 dollars was charged to my card as if I still had the car out on rental. I called both locations and after 24hrs since dropping the car off the return still hasn't been "processed". I think the keys are still in the drop box even. I foresee me having to talk repeatedly with both locations to make sure I don't pay for the additional rental day. Perhaps renting from the airport location would of been a wiser move. :(

Great Service, too expensive.
Pros: The car was clean, the tank was full of gas, and the staff were extremely nice. The car had no problems and was great with gas milage.
Cons: I felt that this was extremely expensive for a car rental. Perhaps it is at market value, but I have never rented a car for this much. I only will use Hertz again because I am under 25 and this is the only company that allows it. Otherwise, I would seek something cheaper. Service was great, but just cant afford such expenses, especially ones that exceed what was promised.

Be Careful of Sat. Hours
Pros: I liked the price of the vehicle and overall, the vehicle I paid in advance for but the person who checked me out bumped the car as she was backing it out, damaging it.
Cons: I absolutely did not like the fact that the car was rented to me for 2:00 p.m. for a week rental, returning the vehicle at 2 p.m. but the office is closed on a Sat. at 12:00 p.m. so I had to run around trying to find another open location and fight over being charged for dropping the car off to another location. I was not informed in my rental that the office closes after 12:00 p.m. on a Sat. and is closed on a Sunday. Again, I rented the car at 2:00 p.m. The person checking me out should have made it very clear that I'd have to return the vehicle by 12:00 p.m. and I should have been given a discount for the abbreviated rental hours.

Deceptive on Kayak
Pros: Despite the mistake on my Kayak rental, Hertz was very helpful in finding me a car that while not what I rented, was good enough to get me through the trip successfully.
Cons: Have to be very careful on the rental location on Kayak. Despite doing a search for oakland airport, it gave me a location and I rented the care from downtown oakland, which didn't do me any good.

Cons: If i start my car search for a specific pick up location it should be that location...you stuck me with extra airport fees and hire costs that were not in the origonal quote...i will never use kayak again. This is not a review of hertz they did great ....KAYAK WILL CHEAT YOU

Pros: The Ford Mustang convertible was brand new, very clean and tons of fun! Hertz provided excellent customer service, easy pick up/drop-off.

Cons: The wait time picking up the car. The transmission felt like it was slipping when you take off, Burnt hole in the back seat and the rubber window strip on the windshield of the driver side was coming off.
