Flights from Lisbon: the best tips from KAYAK users' own experiences

Insights shared by verified travellers who flew from Lisbon to anywhere
LaurenceFlew with Lufthansa-Jun 2026
You need to allow at least 2 hours to get through border control or you will miss your flight. The lines are long.
JohnFlew with Iberia-Aug 2026
It is only necessary to be at the check in counter 2 hours before your flight. No staff available before that time.
MichelleFlew with TAP AIR PORTUGAL-Jun 2026
Very strict on weights for hand luggage and sizes. Would fly again and just plan to check a bag
DeannaFlew with TAP AIR PORTUGAL-Jun 2026
Arrive 3 hrs before flight time to allow for new check in process. Facial recognition is now being used.
Verified travelerFlew with TAP AIR PORTUGAL-Aug 2026
Be prepared for redundant time consuming security measures at Lisbon airport
Verified travelerFlew with TAP AIR PORTUGAL-Aug 2026
If you are upgrading your flight, MAKE SURE that you speak with someone at a ticket counter or baggage check-in counter to make sure that they know your same bags are connected to the upgraded ticket, otherwise they will lose your luggage like they did mine!
BijanFlew with TAP AIR PORTUGAL-Jul 2026
Use a direct flight. Connecting flights are brutally exhausting.
CharisFlew with TAP AIR PORTUGAL-Apr 2026
Make sure your luggage is plastic wrapped if you’re flying in rain!
Verified travelerFlew with TAP AIR PORTUGAL-May 2026
Lisbon’s airport is a mess. Always be ready for a 2-hour line.
BobbieFlew with TAP AIR PORTUGAL-Dec 2025
To definitely go to the airport more than 3 hours ahead of your flight time because Lisbon airport js very poorly designed with no self checking devices and shortage of staff to assist you. Long long lines for going through security, 3 hours or so just for that. Many flights were missed because of that so go at least 5 hours before your flight to be able to make it
Verified travelerFlew with Air Transat-Nov 2025
Reach the airport 4 hours prior to the departure time and check in as soon as possible. Online check in makes no difference unless you want a specific seat.
AllanFlew with TAP AIR PORTUGAL-Jun 2025
The Lisbon airport traffic was such that I could not get an Uber to the airport. Take that into account or use the Metro which is cheap, easy and quick. I also found Lisbon Airport to be more difficult to progress through than JFK. I had thought JFK was difficult but once cleared through the TSA screening your in . Lisbon seemed to have more layers of difficulty.
MikeFlew with Aegean Airlines-May 2025
Dont book seat in a row with just two seats as they are narrower than others with less leg room (row 27)
parveenFlew with British Airways-Jan 2025
Lisbon Airport has a laid-back atmosphere, but navigating it efficiently requires some planning. If you’re taking an Uber, be aware that there’s only one entrance into the parking area, creating a bottleneck. It’s best to allow an extra 15-20 minutes to avoid any last-minute stress. If you’re flying with any airline other than TAP Air Portugal, be prepared to walk further inside the terminal. Also, don’t miss out on FastTrack – it’s a great perk across Europe, and Lisbon Airport offers it as well for a smoother experience
JohnFlew with Air Canada-Sep 2024
Get an aisle or window seat. Those middle seats are brutal!
AmirFlew with TAP AIR PORTUGAL-Jul 2024
For any flight that's part of a Multi-City flight plan, don't miss it. Otherwise, all your remaining flights on that plan will be terminated.
Sheena-Jun 2024
Be easy for the longer lines for passports and going through customs. Give your self plenty of time.
Verified travelerFlew with TAP AIR PORTUGAL-May 2024
Make sure you have plenty of time at the Lisbon airport to get through both security and passport control. There were significant lines for both. Glad we didn't stop and eat after security because when we went towards our gate area we saw the long line for passport control.
MaximFlew with TAP AIR PORTUGAL-Mar 2024
Gate numbers are announced exactly 1 hour before departure time, and gates can close as early as 30 minutes before departure. So, there are about 10 minutes between the time you'll learn your gate number and the time the boarding will start. My wife and I arrived at our gate 30 minutes before departure time, and it was a minute too late: we had to wait for the next flight to Rome. However, TAP staff were very helpful with the flight rebooking.
Verified travelerFlew with Air Canada-Mar 2024
Get to airport early, it’s busy and not a lot of room

We are a senior couple (70+) and chose emergency exit seats so we would have 2 seats together and neither of us had to sit in a middle seat. My husband is type 1 diabetic on an insulin pump and I monitor his blood sugar levels. I am 5'9" and 250 lbs and found the seats extremely uncomfortable. Toward the end of the flight I developed diarrhea which lasted a full 24 hours.

They never sent me a confirmation to say my flight time had changed so I cut my holiday short by 6 hours Had to pay over 50 American for my luggage to be checked on the way home and that’s more that it cost on the way there. Arbitrarily charging more for the same thing when the passenger has no options is shady The cabin was an icebox going there and back, if all the passengers have their gloves on and their hoods up that should be an obvious sign to turn up the heat

I did not like I have been charged for my carry on

Onward flight was okay. return from Lisbon was poor as we missed our flight due to a long line at the passport control. Air Transat made no effort to accommodate us even though we were at the passport control 40 minutes prior to the departure.

Very good. A lot better experience then I expected for an economy flight.

Not so much porter it's your site! Not good

We had things stolen from our luggage, we also were refused an upgrade on a flight that was not full.

Super unproffesional flight . Flight attendants were unproffesional. I could hear them gossiping about theor boyfriends the whole trip

The connecting flight lay over was 4.00 hours, the gate agent booked me on the next flight which was about to depart at no extra cost.

Lisbon, make sure to get food , coffee prior to going to boarding gates as there is no food being served after. Only vending machines. A lot of check points to get to the boarding gates. Not enough seating for passengers waiting to board. Crew was very courteous and kind.

Excellence’s Class booked and we had to wait 15 Hours when we could downgrade to an earlier flight. The logic makes No sense?

Flight was ready to depart on time. We had a 20-minute ATC hold. We still landed on time. The landing seemed fast and rough.

Flight was delayed more than 1.5 hours. Essentially no communication with passengers regarding how long the delay would last or any updates as to the delay.

Clearer signage at Lisbon Airport and more communication about delays

Flight smooth and on-time. Food a joke, crew humorless but efficient. Really a budget airline masquerading as a flagship, but it gets you there.

Overall ok experience as couple feedback: for improvement: 1. The vegetarian food was less and ran out, so many of us didn’t get it. Not all the crew member were polite and could be more hospitable.

No onboard entertainment or food, but that was okay because it was a short flight. Pretty much everyone just slept on the plane. The plane was comfortable enough.

The flight was excellent because I chose to upgrade to Business Class. The only negative drawback was because I upgrade, it screwed their system up and they lost my luggage for 2 days, but it was then recovered.

Web site needs improvement Plane was clean and modern Lay Flat beds were hard and not to comfortable (business class )

Overall, everything was fine—the service, the food, and the entertainment—but the boarding process in Lisbon was a total mess. I’m not sure I’d fly with TAP again. It’s absurd to have to pay for good seats at the front of the plane only to board last; the overhead bins above your seat are likely already full thanks to passengers who boarded earlier—even though they might be seated at the back of the plane. I will think very carefully before flying with TAP Portugal again; it seems to me that they need to review their boarding process. I understand the logic of filling the plane from back to front, but the seats at the front are more expensive. Horacio Rodriguez

Flight was first delayed for 1 hour, then was cancelled. Communication was poor. I ended up booking a new flight on a different carrier to return home. I heard people in my gate area on the phone with Air Canada customer service who had to inform them that the flight was cancelled and they weren't being helped because the system hadn't caught up with what was actually happening.

A marvelous flight experience, from boarding to landing. The full length stretch out seating was excellent. The meals were some of the best in-flight meals I have ever experienced. The cabin attendants were thoughtful and kind. One of the best flights I have ever taken.

Boarding - 3 of 4 flights were delayed and the gate staff did an ok job of managing the lines for boarding. Lots of standing around in line - more than typical. Crew - accommodating. If you are looking for warmth, you will not experience it with AC. But I appreciate their hard work and relative efficiency on 8+ hour flights. Comfort - My first 2 flights were cancelled the morning I was due to depart. AC rescheduled me on 2 new flights that created only minimal disruption and change to my itinerary (a longer layover, several hours difference in arrival time) and provided a 15 dollar food voucher for the layover restaurant which was the equivalent of a measly sandwich. My seats were changed which is a huge issue for my physical size as I require additional legroom for medical reasons, and I was put in a very uncomfortable seat without the option for seat selection. The bathrooms were incredibly dirty and foul smelling to the point of being nauseating and I was next to it during my longest of 4 flights. Entertainment - I always travel with downloaded entertainment on my own devices and a power bank, and am glad I did! The entertainment was completely non functioning for my 8+ hour flight home. We were provided a 15% or 50 dollar voucher on a future flight by way of compensation. Food - always just poor to mid. I also travel with my own food when possible as in flight meals and snacks taste strongly of packaging. Overall, this was a poor to mid experience, and I am resigned to the fact that airlines are never going to improve.

The flight from Lisbon to Toronto was delayed and then our connecting flight in Vancouver was delayed due to “unscheduled maintenance “. We boarded and then had to get off the plane and wait. We were over three hours delayed in Vancouver and missed our final connection to Saskatoon. We were forced to overnight in Vancouver arriving in Saskatoon at noon the next day. That’s over a 12 hour delay getting home.

They cancelled my return flight due to mechanical problems checked me on a flight a day late . Did not inform me kept sending me the old itinerary by email . I called and rebooked myself on an earlier flight still would not send me the right itinerary kept sending me the old itinerary The new airline charged me 150 $ for the first checked in luggage Aircanda was $75 . No effort to reconcile this or any apologies for anything . Sorry flight canceled… you are on your own Air Canada is worse than a budget airline Will never fly them again ..

We are extremely impressed with all aspects of flying with Air Canada.

Earphones provided or sound quality of entertainment isn’t great. Next time I would bring my own.

The air crew were nice and friendly and the flight itself was uneventful. ATC control delayed our departure for 90 minutes, It was chaos in Montreal for those making connections but the AC ground staff did a good job helping.

Flight was cancell at the last minute, We were rescheduled 3 different times and ended up barely making our connecting flight in Dulles ( an airport I will never voluntarily fly through again) The cause was a mechanical issue with air Canada. The many levels of non-ownership involved basically left us holding the bag. Flight was purchase on Kayak, who subbed it out to underpicerm who purchased it through United airlines , who subbed the outgoing to Lufthansa and the return flights to Air Canada. The efforts of the United staff in Lisbon and later in D,C, are the only reason this didn't fail completely. The worst single day of air travel I have encountered including trips that were cancelled. JIMD

The food, information about luggage when they change your fly Still waiting for my luggage after 3 days The crew have no idea how to direct you with information

The airline gets you from one place to another in a reasonable time. Not much more you can expect.

Easy short trip from Faro to Cardiff. Exceptional staff. Early landing and straight through airport in 15 minutes from touch down.

Guide passenger if fhey board from front or back door cause it was a total mess

I didn't know that all connecting flights require online check-in two hours in advance, so I was fined 55 euros. This is a lesson learned.

There isn’t any entertainment. The food and drink was available for a price. I didn’t buy any.

Worst experience ever. First time and last time with Ryanair. I'm not a cow.

Everything was OK but I got the feeling that the aisle seat in row 3 is smaller than the other 2 seats

Good flight. Take off a little late but make up the time

O voo atrasou um bom bocado A tripulação não era comunicativa,não fez vendas... Não abordava os passageiros... A 1°vez que me acontece tal coisa 🤷‍♀️

Bag check in was terrible. Arrived 2 hours and 10 minutes ahead of required time and then waited 50 minutes in line to check ONE bag. There were 4 employees standing around as only two were checking bags and there were 6 gates available to check bags. Process is terrible. Lack of customer concern and service.

Good news was that Bag Check was open two and a half hours before the flight, which is essential with the chaotic immigration process. Flight was okay, but sitting at the back of the aircraft, 3 overhead bins on both sides were filled with crew bags and other misc items, so we couldn't put our cabin bags anywhere near us. To add insult, twice the crew managed to drop items that they were taking out of the overhead bins onto my wife's head, who was sitting in an aisle seat.

Sitting on the last row in between the aisle and a massive person, all people going to the bathroom bumped into me including the flight attendants.

The true is that travel from London to Faro on 11/12/2025 by BA was cancelled, so I did not go to Faro, so i did not board easy flight. The mediocre qualification to you was because even when i bought an insurance, i could not change date neither obtain reimbursement. It could be ideal if you do something in order for me not to lose the purchase Thank you

Liked. The check-in was pretty quick as they had 5 desks working.

We boarded and then sat on the tarmac for an hour….probably not E Jets fault. But the gentleman that checked us in and took our luggage was exceptionally friendly and calming for early morning/ confused passengers. As always, it’s the people that make or break an experience, right?

I was hesitant to book with a low cost airline due to previous experience but Easy Jet surpassed my expectations. I would definitely book a flight with them again! Seemless booking, upfront about baggage fees, professional, and helpful staff.

Well Is extra charge for everything and other companies include that and the price.

Comfort isn’t a word one uses on economy airlines! Boarding was okay, delayed but okay, the flight was good, quick and time was made up.

With stairs on a rainy tarmac, EasyJet flights are ok for younger travelers with backpack only. Seniors with mobility issues find it challenging 😰. However, the crew and disability assistance folks at both ends eased that discomfort as much as possible for their various roles. Kudos to airport and EasyJet employees for their kind service.

The flight boarded a little late but made up the time in flight - much appreciated. The staff were efficient and fairly friendly One of the toilets wasn’t working - having only one functioning toilet for a flight of hundreds isn’t really acceptable. I still find it amazing that the budget airlines can’t even offer free tap water to passengers.
