Pros: "Crew great"
Cons: "Legroom tiny"
Cons: "Boarding took forever, worst seat ever, not many options for food on the flight, flight was delayed, it took almost 2 hours to receive our luggage. Mine got lost, and I have yet to hear from them as to where it is. If I have learned one thing from flying Icelandair is that I better be patient..."
Pros: "Great crew. Very friendly and helpful."
Pros: "It worked, the price was fine."
Cons: "The lavatory smelled of urine, which made the flight on the last back row seats quite uncomfortable. Never experienced anything like this before."
Cons: "Seats both support and recline"
Pros: "The in-flight entertainment system is very good (once you get past the spam video ads for Icelandic attractions). The flight crew on both flights was very attentive and friendly. I really appreciate that IcelandAir gives out toy boxes to the children on the plane; that's very nice."
Cons: "My first flight was over 50 minutes late. Since I only had 1 hour and 5 minutes to begin with to catch my connecting flight, this forced me and several other passengers to do a mad sprint through Kevlavik Airport. We made it to the gate drenched in sweat and gasping for air - not a pleasant experience. There was also no time to use the airport restrooms or refill my water bottle. The cabin crew on the first flight completely ignored the fact that we were this late - there were no announcements about flight connections, or even an update as to that we were running behind at all. This should have been handled very differently. (Also, general pet peeve: They give you no food whatsoever, even for transatlantic flights, and they do not make you aware of this prior to being on the airplane. If you want to eat, you have to purchase their overpriced airplane food from the menu.)"
Pros: "Very speedy embarkation process"
Cons: "The seats weren’t comfortable, no snacks were offered at all unless you paid for food, & we had to get off the plane in Iceland on the runway & walk to a bus that took us to the terminal."
Pros: "Crew seemed okay comparatively to other airlines/crews."
Cons: "airport delays up to 2 hours, not knowing which gate and changing it all the time in Reykjavik, seating was hyper cramped, no food to compensate for the extra long trip, my carry on was taken from me even though it easily fit in overhead (it's a legal size duffel bag). I was exhausted after spending well over 14 hours in airports and 2 planes from Paris to DC."
Cons: "When I booked this flight last March the booking info said 1 free bag. When we got to the airport we were told that we had to pay $94 Can per bag because we had Economy Light class. We had the same issue returning but the cost was $55 US. On top of that Iceland Air changed planes and bumped us from row 10 to 41 - the last row. Bizarrely there is no customer service desk at the Reykjavik Airport - they just give you a little card with the website for customer service. I don't understand how any airline does this! BTW, they blame the third party for the issues! That is you!!!"
Pros: "Nice leg Space"
Cons: "They were missing lots of food on the menu. There was an delay but we didn’t get any info or apology."
Pros: "Straightforward and friendly crew."
Cons: "The layout of the terminal in Reykjavik is obviously under renovation, but they could still make it look presentable"
Cons: "It was a very uncomfortable flight as there was a box under the seat in front of seat 26E so I could not get comfortable and I’m only 5’7”. As it’s in the middle of the plane they we were the last row to be served"
Pros: "Crew and food was nice If you are a Saga class passenger like my wife and I left something to be desired"
Cons: "Boarding procee in Iceland for Saga class means you get called up first to wait in line for bus to plane. There you wait for others to check in the gate. Then you proceed to board the bus. Saga class was with everyone. By the time we got on board waiting to climb the stairs we were soaked from the rain. Our bags were marked priority yet to our dismay it took 20 minutes for our bags to come on the carosill after others started getting there bags. Glad We had those priority stickers as we were clearly in the last of the bunch. 0"
Pros: "The plane was nice and I truly loved the movies offered on board."
Cons: "I wasn’t aware of the fact you need to order your food prior to departure to get it on board."
Cons: "The booking was too tight. We BARELY made our flight to Minneapolis and the airport in Rehkjavik is way too small for the number of flights coming in at the same time. We were in a winding, snakelike line for security that went on forever and then when we got through, the lines for the gates were mixed up, without proper seating areas and separation. People were in the wrong lines because it was too crowded to see where we should be. This is a POORLY run airport that needs significant expansion and improvement."
Cons: "I was charged for baggage FLYUS confirmation did not clearly explain about the charge before I booked the flight. Not good!"
Cons: "I have never had a flight with Icelandair where there was no delay"
Pros: "Meh, it's cheap"
Cons: "Their planes have old jank interiors with weird layouts, and stern, unhelpful flight attendants. They don't bring water by much but they're more than happy to hock duty free BS"
Cons: "I missed my flight because my flight into Chicago was delayed by 3 hours. I called Icelandairs customer service 7 hours before I missed my flight and told them the situation and they gave me the wrong information and gate number. Once I arrived in Chicago I couldn’t find anyone to help me at the airport and I was brushed off multiple times. After staying on hold all night long with icelandairs customer service I was hung up on. I ended up buying a completely new ticket and still haven’t been able to talk to a representative about it."
Pros: "Hard to say what I liked as my experience was soured right from the onset"
Cons: "I was surprised by being charged almost $100 to check in my luggage, and over $100 on my return leg. (Yes! I could have looked at their baggage policy, but there was no glaring notification alerting me to this fact when I purchased the ticket, nor when I was checking in online) Then, I was further surprised that you had to pay for food on board. This was a first. I mean, on an international long distance flight? Everything became mediocre after these, and I mentally swore off flying this airline ever again."
Cons: "The pilots was great, but the baggage was partially lost and we had to wait an hour while they found the rest and loaded it. For that hour, the airport positioned another jet with its engines firing into our air intake, so we spent the whole time coughing in fuel fumes. The crew had forgotten to put blankets out for about 1/3 of the plane on the overnight flight and didn't have enough to go around when the mistake was pointed out to them. Also, the check-in kiosks and web check-in were both faulty, so the desk assistants were overworked. Overall, the service was well intentioned, but inept. Not worth the cheaper ticket price."
Pros: "The flight crew was kind."
Cons: "Good evening, I’m not sure under which category our complaints should fall on your website so I will include them here. To summarize our complaint, we booked our tickets on Icelandair through Kayak (and Webjet) and upon arriving at the check-in counter on December 2, we were informed that the baggage fee for our flight would be $95 each! Understandably, we were shocked and very displeased. Nowhere in our confirmation emails or flight details was there anything about having to pay such a high rate for our luggage. The first employee we spoke to said that your airline has recently started charging such fees to compete with WOW Air and as I said to him, I would like to point out again that this is the very reason why I never choose to fly with WOW Air: they clearly state that there is a high baggage fee from the beginning of the registration process and I know of too many other airlines who don’t have such inflated fees. This ticketing agent and the manager said that the level of our ticket (apparently called Economy Light) indicated that we would be charged this baggage rate. It is now my understanding that on the Icelandair’s website, these levels are described but no such options were listed or explained on the Kayak website or any of our confirmation materials/emails. It is the responsibility of your site to post these important details in a conspicuous place so that travelers can make informed decisions. We could’ve flown with Air Portugal for a mere $50 more and saved not only over $200 each but also the inconvenience and frustration. Upon the check-in manager’s suggestion, I looked up our flight by the booking reservation number (LCWNEG) and again, the only “flight type” shown was called Economy, nothing more. The same is true for when we checked in online and reserved our seats - there was never an indication of the fees that were awaiting us. All this to say, we were incredibly upset to be surprised with an additional cost of $200/person (round trip ticket) but then, to add insult to injury, not only did we nearly miss our flight due to the length of time spent at the check-in desk, once we got on the plane and we realized we would not be served anything other than water or soda - since all food/meals must also be paid for in most Economy levels. This was our first experience with your airline/website and I highly doubt we will ever choose you in the future. I know now for a fact that other passengers who have booked through 3rd party sites have found themselves in similar bad situations. If you choose to work with airlines and offer lower rates, it is only honest and fair to make your policies clearly known to your potential customers. We felt mislead and deceived as these rates seemed hidden until it as too late. I eagerly await your response and look forward to hearing what steps will be taken to rectify the problem and make amends for this unacceptable situation. Sincerely, Mandi Vermilyea and Judith Arp"
Cons: "food and drink is a nickel and diam which doesn’t go with the brand."
Pros: "The lights in the cabin were great set up to look like the Aurora"
Cons: "Offered 1 drink and no snack. Rarely do you see the crew on their flights"
Cons: "There was no food on the flight provided"
Pros: "Punctual and no toilet line ups"
Cons: "Seats were hard and food was very expensive."
Pros: "I need a cheap flight and at the time that was my best bet. Didn't have a bad time but next time I will fly direct from the US."
Cons: "Seats were so so, leg room was barely substantial. Iceland is expensive even on a layover, thankfully it wasn't very long."
Cons: "I've travelled to 40 countries in my life and this is the FIRST time on a international flight that I was NOT given ( free ) food."
Pros: "Swiss air and Lufthansa are probably better than Icelandair"
Cons: "I barely made my flight because I was rebooked to an ealier! flight via Switzerland instead via Iceland and that only three hours prior to regular departure, and without any notification on my cellphone. If I had not been more than two hours early at the airport I'd miss my re-assigned flight because it was leaving more than an hour earlier than my original flight. In the meantime I still got messages that the flight via Iceland would be delayed (which could have mislead me thinking I might have even more time than I actually had). Due to the subsequent rush at check-in my bag got pulled out by TSA and arrived two days late at Frankfurt! Meanwhile I had to travel to France without clean clothes and medication."
Cons: "Airport in Iceland cannot accommodate the number of passengers that fly through there. Long lines, no seats, standing for hours. I won't fly Icelandic air through Rejikyvik again. Also the plane departing from IAD to Iceland was old and uncomfortable. Overall, I feel that I had to run the gauntlet of discomfort and tedium before I could actually enjoy my trip----as if the suffering was part of the package. This airport impacts the flight itself. Now we are supposed to accept an hours delay without apology as if that's ok. Standing in line at the airport for two hours in Iceland just makes me commit to traveling less and becoming more selective in my choice of airlines."
Pros: "I will start positive: I eventually got To my destination and I eventually returned home. That said, my flight from Chicago was 90 min late and therefore missed my connection in Iceland to Paris. Icelandair put me in a nice Hotel for the day and covered meals, but if they were more efficient with boarding and take off, we could have been there on time. The return home? Orly flight was total chaos, as was the boarding process to Chicago. Herding would be more effective with border collies. I will never use this airline again. What you save in airfare you lose in aggravation and inconvenience."
Pros: "Friendly crew, boarding via two doors made for a quicker boarding experience."
Cons: "No meal or even snacks for transatlantic flights! Even by today's standards, that's stingy. United, American and all European carriers serve a minimum of 1 meal. Also had shuttle boarding and deplaning for all flights. This negated any gains made by front and rear boarding. Also be advised, Keflavik airport (Icelandair's hub) is usually mobbed and was not built to handle the volume it sees during most months."
Pros: "Once we got to the shuttle, boarding was quick and efficient. Flight was not expensive. Flight from Reykavik to Chicago had numerous movie/tv selections. Many were older, but plenty to choose from."
Cons: "Seats very close together--if the person in front of you reclined all the way, you had to as well. Seats were a little stiff (not terrible, but not very comfortable). Boarding at Reykavik was chaotic. Airport was boarding 4 big flights all from the same small (but new?) end of the terminal and it was hard for people to figure out which line they should be in due to the placement of the screens and the sheer number of people all boarding simultaneously. This is not an IcelandAir problem but likely an issue of Reykavik airport being under-prepared for the ginormous amount of visitors and layovers."
Pros: "There were so many things wrong with our flight from Gatwick to NYC. The check in staff were rude and homophobic at check in, forcing my partner and I to separate for check in while we watched heterosexual partners check in together freely. The disabled toilet alarm broke as we descended into NYC and we listened to end-of-the-world death sirens as we were landing. It was not communicates that food was a microtransaction on flight and was so overpriced so we went nearly 13 hours without food because the flights were also delayed on the tarmac. The de-icing tow truck in Iceland was broken down so we were delayed two hours on the layover. On return, both Icelandair gates opened late. During the layover we were kettled in hot container units before 20 min before being bussed to the plane and held for 15 minutes. Then, the icing on the cake was landing back at Gatwick and seeing my brand new luggage I bought on the trip damaged with thr back pocked ripped out along the bottom seam. I will never again ride with these rude, price-gouging, apathetic amateurs."
Pros: "I loved the videos about Iceland! It was very informative. The visibility on the ground when we landed wasn't very good, so we had to make a few attempts to land, but the pilot did an excellent job!"
Pros: "Flight good. Missed the pay for food trolley, so didn't eat."
Cons: "Reykavic airport has the least amenities I have ever experienced. Very few seats in the lounge. Most are forced to stand or lie on the floor. Don't think that getting through the gate will mean getting on plane, it's too another waiting room with a few seats, mainly standing. The airport has no seated restaurants or cafes. So getting off a plane hungry id not pleasant. I will never again fly to and from New York via this 'airport'"
Pros: "The water and longer seat belts."
Cons: "Poor communication at the gate when boarding leaving many people looking around lost and confused. No real boarding process - a real scrum once on board. Can't even provide a small bag of nuts or chips, very limited selection of beverages which are complimentary and the foods offered for sale did not have much option for people with dietary restrictions (and I didn't see a place to special order). Besides hard seats and outdated movies and screechy classical music, what can I say about the entertainment. Not all seats and entertainment equipment in working order."
Pros: "My seat was actually not too uncomfortable. I had travelled on Iceland air a few years ago and thought the seats were pretty tight and uncomfortable. This was better."
Cons: "Minimal beverages. Must bring your own snacks as they are only for purchase."
Cons: "The gate situation at the Iceland airport is terrible. They have no place for people to sit. We flew through Iceland from Amsterdam continuing on to Portland. When we went to our out bound flight there was no place to sit. Hundreds of people were sitting on the floor. Eventually it was standing room only for over an hour. Immediately adjacent to our gate were 4 other gates. All flight departures from these gates were scheduled with 20 minutes of each other! That's nearly 1,000 passengers gathering in a narrow concourse with no separate gate seating. Very miserable conditions. Need I say more."
Pros: "Staff was friendly"
Cons: "There was no way to reserve seats for the flight. I made our reservations eight months in advance and there was no way via kayak or Icelandair to choose seats. When we tried calling the airline, they told us we needed to call back 36 hours before the flight. When we called 36 hours before the flight they told us all of the seats were alr day taken and we needed to speak to the agent when we checked in. When we were given seat assignments at checkin and asked why we'd had no input into the seat selection, they said we should have called in advance. It was really frustrating, especially because we ended up in th back of the plane. I was in a middle seat, winch don't have any space for a bag under the seats in front of them. Then there were no meals served on the overnight flight. I bought a small salad for 12 euros. I have never in my life taken an overnight flight where they don't serve at least dinner, if not both dinner and breakfast. The flight was on time and the attendants were friendly, but I wasn't terribly impressed otherwise."
Cons: "Flight was almost an hour late departing IAD, and arrived too late in Reykjavik for us to make our connecting flight to Paris, which Icelandair did not hold at all for the many passengers who were connecting. We were sent to England, then connected with another airline after a four hour layover. Our arrival in Paris was 8 hours late, and our bags did not get to us at our hotel until four days later. This was poor customer service by Icelandair all around, that could have been avoided by holding the connecting flight for 45 minutes. It affected many passengers, not just us."
Pros: "Great food and comfortable seats."
Pros: "Entertainment system"
Cons: "No food, beverage service very limited."
Pros: "the plane seemed safe"
Cons: "no seats in the airport; long wait for boarding and totally confusing/interfering messages on airport PA system; chaotic boarding "process""
Pros: "The flight themselves were fine. Crew and planes were all up to par"
Cons: "The layover in Iceland was very tough for me. our the first leg of our journey has been delayed which is fine those things happen the airline had auto rebooked us as we were going to miss our second leg. However it wasn't until we attempted to board that new flight that we were told we needed new boarding passes as we had been rebooked again. We went and got our boarding passes and went to our gate to wait. We had been waiting there for maybe 15 minutes and became worried as no one standing around us was headed toward our destination and our flight was not on any television screens. I went back to the service desk and found out that there had been a gate change. We ran accross the airport and were nearly the last people in line for our next leg. Naturally our luggage did not follow us. We did receive our luggage a day later."
Pros: "The air personel were really professional, nice and accomodating except for the flashing light of the duty free cart at 2am in the middle of a dark sleepy plane."
Cons: "Where to start? I'm traveling with my wife and we decided to consolidate our stuff in one luggage since she is pregnant and I don't want her to carry any bag... We are allowed for 2 luggages of 23kg each combined it's 46kg, our bag was 30 kg. Through my previous trips with various airlines we had no pb with that until we reached the check in counter, the lady very politely explained that she has to charge me 35£ back and forth for excessive wait on the bag which I found outrageous so i had to squeeze a bunch of stuff in the hand luggage to send it as a cargo Then she infomed us that the plane is gonna be late for 1h while eventually it was delayed more than 2 h On the plane the staff was very friendly however the variety of food is so limited and the hostess passed by in the middle of flight with the duty free cart decorated as a Christmas tree while the lights were off and everyone was sleeping Finall we reach the airport, the bags took 45 minutes to reach us I love Iceland but i will not book with the same airline again"
Pros: "flight itself was fine and on flight service was good. Flight was cheap."
Cons: "Strikes at the airport in Iceland are causing significant delays and causing people to miss connecting flights all over Europe and in the US. The airport was completely jammed with people waiting to fly out to the point you could not access the bathrooms. My checked bag also must have been left outside in significant rain for quite some time because it was soaked completely through with water. I had a thick wool blanket on top as well as my clothes in packing cubes and it was all soaked with water. Terrible!! You get what you pay for."
Cons: "Seats very uncomfortable due to poor padding in seat cushion, broken recliner button that did not control recline and tight legroom in middle seat aggravated by medal box under seat in front; cabin too hot"
Pros: "Service was good, no real complaints"
Cons: "It was very warm, and trying to sleep while sweating is never fun....not sure why there aren't personal vents on that plane!"
Cons: "My wifi was not working for the entire trip!"
Pros: "they gave me the special food"
Cons: "Air Canada only offered drinks during the flight. If you do not have a credit card with you, you can not eat anything. the flight was 4 hours and 45 minutes but there was a problem, this detour was an additional 2 hours and 30 We were a total of almost 7 hours inside the plane and without eating any"
Pros: "It arrived on time."
Cons: "The temperature in the cabin was way too cold. People we wearing their jackets and when I mentioned it to the cabin crew member she said a few other people would have to make a similar comment before she could request turning the temperature up. There was also a glitch in the system so that the reading lights for each seat could only be operated by the seat directly in front. The food was very uninspiring and poorly presented. The tea and coffee were awful!!!!!! The choice of movies, etc was very limited. Thank goodness it was a night flight and not too long!"
Pros: "Once on the flight, everything went well."
Cons: "Real nightmare as I had booked YUL-LYS-BRU with Brussels Airlines (SN). YUL-LYS was operated with Air Canada. Came within 4 minutes of missing flight despite being at airport 3 hrs early. SN had not released ticket to Air Canada so they could not check me in. Had to call SN customer service after AC could not check me in, then wait and wait as they had to try to correct the mistake 3x before AC counter could issue boarding passes. Terrible experience going through this with 2 small kids waiting. It’s as if the two airlines’ systems don’t communicate but passenger is responsible for resolving."
Pros: "Every thing expert the food"
Cons: "The food"
Cons: "Lack of communication. Crew was unattentitive and seemed to not know protocol or appear to have things under the control."
Pros: "If there is good weather, everything will run smooth and on time."
Cons: "Be aware of the snow... My flight from YUL (Montreal) to FLL was delayed 4 hours!! The inbound flight was diverted to Toronto just because of ONE inch of snow in Montreal Airport."
Cons: "Was put on a Turkish airlines flight - landed in India 12 hours AFTER scheduled landing. My luggage did not reach India. After numerous calls got only 1 out of 2 of my bags ; 2nd bag still missing 1 week after landing in India WOW"
Pros: "Nice flight, staff"
Cons: "Seats are so hard on the but that it's hurts to the bones for a few days...!! I travel a lot, and this is the only airline/aircraft that this occured. Also even checking in online, and gaving your boarding, they managed to get us to go to the counter to tag our carry ons..."
Cons: "I want to seriously complain about Air Canada and Kayak booking systems. I reserved the tickets to Shanghai but there were no place reminding me that I need Canadian VISA to connect flights between two Canadian cities. I am a Chinese citizen who is working at USA and not allowed to change flights in Canada based on the newest government rules. However, in both booking systems, there is no reminders. In my opinion, either Kayak or Air Canada can add a simple checkbox to let the potential guest choose his or her nationality status, then this kind of trouble can be mitigated. We talked and called Air Canada people but no buying. They kept saying this is our responsibility. We bought United Airline tickets at the last minutes and cost us about $2,400 because we cannot wait to get back China to prepare our wedding ceremony and US Visa interview. We are very very disappointed with Air Canada and will keep complaining about this issue. As a service supplier, how cannot you think on behalf of a customer? The air company definitely knows more about government rules than a customer. We did have mistakes of not researching government rules. However, the biggest mistake was we trusted Air Canada and Kayak who we thought had taken care of those kind of issues for us. Thanks."
Pros: "The food and service were very good."
Cons: "The entertainment system is a bit outdated and had to be rebooted more than once. But this was only a minor inconvenience."
Pros: "The tvs are awesome! They are new and have touchscreens that are actually well designed and can scroll etc. Resolution and sound are great, so I actually feel like I watched my movie and didn't just look at moving blurs with half the dialogue missing. Also the USB ports are great. And the brownie with the meal was delicious."
Cons: "Only one meal on a >9 hour flight, plus one snack which was an uninspiring-looking rectangle of cold pumpkin loaf (it tasted good, but after 7.5 hours in the air it'd be nice to get something more appealing). Other airlines give two meals. It's ridiculous that Air Canada insists on being so stingy with the food."
Pros: "Comfortable seats, friendly crew."
Cons: "Almost two hours delay each way."
Pros: "Friendly staff, scent collection of media on offer."
Cons: "Size of the seats, baggage fees, insulting attitude of the baggage check in staff in MTL."
Pros: "The gate agents were polite and the boarding was relatively smooth. Food was fine and flight attendants were Excellent!!!"
Cons: "First point of contact was incredibly rude. First she told me she couldn't find my reservation. Once she did, she gave me a lecture about my married name. Next she refused to let me take my carry on bag saying it was too large even though it fit on all flights to Montreal. Once I proved it would fit with the luggage sizer she had moved on to another customer and ignored me for 10 minutes while I stood there even though my boarding passes were printed. When I got to the flight, I found it could have been gate checked but there was no need as the flight was NOT FULL and my bag fit with no problem at all in the overhead bins. In 35 years of flying this was the worst experience I've ever had."
Pros: "Ease of boarding - no long queues. Offer to put hand luggage in the hold with no charge."
Cons: "No movies to watch, they told us to download their app and we would be able to watch movies. Tried to download the app on my phone without success, then tired to download the app on my laptop, again no luck. The staff had no clue how to help me, really old plane."
Pros: "On time,good boarding."
Cons: "Out of food to buy for dinner."
Pros: "Plenty of room in economy for my 6'3" frame, friendly and helpful crew."
Cons: "Everything was great - more selection on the movies/tv would be a plus"
Pros: "They provided a meal, a snack, and plenty of beverages. The crew was pleasant, attentive, and helpful."
Cons: "Our flight was delayed three hours. My flight and one other were the last to leave that night. There were no TVs on this flight. The only way to watch movies was on a smart phone or electronic device through their app. My poor old fashioned dad, didn't bring his phone so he would have just sat there for seven and a half hours if I didn't let him borrow mine. AirCanada's alternative is to rent an iPad from them, just another way for airline companies to get money out of us. The movie choices on their app were bad and older. International flights usually have new movies to so it is less likely passengers have seen them already."
Cons: "Extreme delays on my return flight which made me miss my connection and get rebooked on another flight for the next day. We were delayed on departure, then on the tarmac, then in the air, and finally when getting off the plane. I am glad that I was rebooked and was given a hotel to stay at, but I did not like the way I was treated by Air Canada staff at customs. I passed through customs only to be sent back into Canada after having crossed through security because the staff decided to close. We were told by other staff members that it was up to them to decide when they were done and to talk them. I ran through the whole airport with about 7 other people to make it. Why make us cross through security only to send us back? There was no one there to guide us on what to do. I had to go through the whole thing again the following day only to have my face cream taken away (it is technically cream, not a liquid) and then be detained. None of this happened AT ALL the day before. I'd give more details but it was a complete mess."
Pros: "the pilot did a great job. the crew was nice."
Cons: "It was interesting to me that the plane used for a 4 hour flight (this one) was smaller than a plane used for a 1hr flight. I was uncomfortable the entire time. this was a redeye flight, departing at midnight. the cabin lights stayed on for the first hour making it impossible to dose off. we were given a 'snack' of a disgusting chicken wrap slathered in mayo. it was inedible. oh, and accompanied by a large kitkat bar. I mean. Who came up with this combo? there were no screens, no in flight entertainment unless you wanted to run down your phone battery or rent an ipad for $10. I was truly disappointed."
Pros: "Boarding was good, but pretty bad flights overall. One of the worst I ever had in my life! The plane seats we had had so little cushion that is was painful to sit. My husband was avoiding touching the back by leaning on his arms and he is great shape, don't think elderly and in pain by himself...Entertainment simply non-existent and food as well... The crew were borderline okay. Plus the plane drove for about 20 minutes at Montreal and about 20 in Chicago before we left and after we landed...Let's say I saw parts of O'Hare in Chicago, I didn't even know existed!!!"
Cons: "Pretty bad flights overall. One of the worst I ever had in my life! The plane seats we had had so little cushion that is was painful to sit. Pros: "Air crew was nice. Pilot nice too."
Cons: "Old plane. Smaller seat size than comparable airlines. Terrible food: a slice of oily cske, served in a plastic sleeve, must be the new low for an international breakfast...no individual tvs on the sets....hello, step into the 21st century.... And the selection available via your iPad or laptop and their wifi was small, and old...we had paid to upgrade our economy tickets to the next level, and we expected more...the size of the upgraded seats was not great and there wa no foot rest to put your feet on, which is a significant help to someone who flies so many hours and can assist with circulation...."
Cons: "Tough to have a long-haul flight without functioning seat-back entertainment. Mine never worked. Asked three times about it - three times the system was "rebooted" - to no avail. I told each subsequent flight attendant that it had already been reset - they just "tried" it again. Very frustrating over the course of several hours. No one ever checked to see whether their re-set actually worked. Also, not sure why the window seats now have an arm rest on the window side of the seat - seriously interferes with passenger comfort when trying to sleep."
Pros: "The flight was no cancel because the weather"
Cons: "Waiting too much after landing in LGA"
Pros: "Decent movie selection on one of my flights"
Cons: "I had booked my Air Canada trip and had a single stop-over while I switched to a different plane. Both of these planes were Air Canada. I Even though I made it through Customs in the shortest time possible, and back through security, I still managed to narrowly make my second flight. They were final-calling my name and actually taking off earlier than expected. Had I been 2 more minutes late, my flight would probably have taken off. I didn't check any bags either, so had I checked one, I don't think I would have made my second flight."
Pros: "friendly pilot"
Cons: "Delayed 25 minutes, and threatened to fly without 15 passengers due to strong headwinds and need to reduce weight. Never heard that one before."
Cons: "One man wanted me to check an empty carry on bag I travel for 10 years with this high quality foldable carry on bag, it is a tight in their test cradle because of the wheels but it does fit. Even a passanger offer me is support telling the agent he was not reasonable after getting the bag in and out 4 times he still wanted me to check the bag in ? After 10 min arguments he said ok put it on the floor ! I could of put 2 of my foldable bag on the top storage if I had 2.... it was a connecting from same airline a much smaller plane which accepeted the bag . Very unpleasant ! Some people like to feel in power."
Cons: "had to pa for poor selection (the cheese "platter" ran out quickly :( )"
Cons: "Air Canada failed to transfer my bag from flight 1 to connecting flight 2. This not only happened to me but to other people traveling on the same connecting flight as well. My bag was delivered later then the promised time, it was also returned damaged. It is now almost one week since I have taken my flight and I am unable to process a claim because they have not updated my file via their Bag Tracer program. It is clear that they still have a lot of work to do to be considered a real commercial air line company"
Pros: "Had a great conversation wih a guy from Switzerland an it really helped to pass the time."
Cons: "I didn't like that they either started boarding too early or we waited a long time to get off the runway as it seemed we were on the plane a long time before we actually left. Also we just received our snack and our drink and as soon as we received them, a stewardess told us to all put our tables up and I do believe that it was because we were descending to land. It seemed like forever before we received our snack and then we're told we couldn't use our tables. I think they should have started the snacks earlier as it was quite a big plane and it probably would take quite a long time to serve everyone and the worst part of it all was that I had asked for a can of pop, so I had to hold my can of pop, my glass pop and try to get my snack out of the package which was not easy at all."
Pros: "Air Canada personnel made sure I made the connecting flight from Paris to Denver through passport control and the repeated safety checks in Montreal. The small aircraft was spacious even in economy."
Cons: "A male flight attendant was unwelcoming when I finally got to the plane (being late was not my fault). Did not want to help looking for a spot for my normal size carry on. When I pointed out one above him, he left my bag there and just walked away. I am 69 years old, 5'1"."
Cons: "previous flight was late so we had to be rebooked. The line was insane with 3 agents. The 3rd said go to the other 2 lines. The second went on break leaving one agent. A manager came down and gave the sorry here is our corporate email speech to two girls in line but left without acknowledging all the rest of us waiting. It was a mess. When I got my ticket she was like here you go without explaining anything or a sorry. When I asked for a few details like am I in a hotel overnight or when do I leave she gave me an eye roll. When I got to the plane after traveling all day and waiting extra hours there was an empty row right in front of me. I tried to lay down but the attendant made me move because I hadn't booked comfort plus even though the flight I booked I would have been in Denver hours ago. Things happen but it's all how you deal with it and air canada does not deal well."
Pros: "-Direct flight -The boarding by sections. Less of a stampede."
Cons: "When I arrived to my seat, the overhead compartment was full. I had no room for my carry-on. I mentioned it to the flight attendant. He just shrugged and told me to put my carry-on under the seat in front of me. So, #1, I guess some people bring more carry-on and the staff lets them. And #2, I guess it wasn't tight enough in those seats and even though I'm over 6 ft, the staff had to make it tighter. Also, when it was time to land, I thought my seat was all the way up. It was not fully all the way up. I was half asleep, and all of sudden, instead of telling me, one of the flight attendant pushed on the button to raise my seat. I would've appreciated him telling me. The landing was delayed, but that's no ones fault at rouge. I am trying to be as objective as I can. Hopefully, when (and if) someone at Air Canada-Rouge reads this, he or she has enough "pull" at the company to ask the proper authorities:"what kind of company are we? Are we a bargain basement flight company that offers just basic flights for extremely low prices? Or are we an average flight company that offer great value for the money the customer pays?" Because, from my perspective as a customer who is at his second experience with Air Canada-Rouge, the feeling that I get from flying with you guys, is that your company offers basic flights that doesn't offer great value for the money. It's more a company that "plays on both fields", taking what suits them, and leaving what doesn't , regardless of their customer. I understand that a company has to make money. It's normal. But, at a certain point, don't you have to think about your customers? To be honest, the only reason I flew with Air Canada-Rouge is that I was stuck with no other choices but to fly with you (schedule, cost, etc.) And I know for a fact that I'm not the only one. The feeling that I get, is that your company counts on customer like me. Customers that are "stuck", with no other alternatives. If your company wants to offer many "cheap direct flights" like Ryanair and Easyjet offer in Europe, I have 2 suggestions: #1: lower your prices. #2 :your staff should be more customer friendly savvy. Because those 2 companies, that's what they offer. Always remember: you can put a lot of maple syrup on a pile of sh***t, it still won't taste like pancakes. Thank you."
Cons: "On the way back from Quebec City to Montreal we were asked to check our carry-ons as luggage, because "there is no room' on the plane. It was an empty flight. ALL overhead compartments were empty. Both flights - Quebec to Montreal and Montreal San Francisco were late. As the result, we have to spend 1.5 hours in the baggage claim area, because "there are no baggage agents in SFO available". THAT WAS THE WHOLE REASON WE ONLY HAD CARRY-ONS! By far, one of the worst flight experience in the last 10 year."
Pros: "Besides a french men close to us that doesnt know what is a deodorent , everything was fine for the travel : ontime, friendly staff, no problem at all. Always recommend air canada for its quality standard. Complimentary drinks ok"
Cons: "Pay-to-eat only, no little crackers like before , come on!"
Pros: "Good Crew The crew was sharp, efficient, attentive and very good."
Cons: "Better Food Needed Even though this was a short flight, the meal could have been better. The small amount of smoked salmon was inadequate. This meal has been served over and over. Increasing the amount of smoked salmon would at least be a step in the right direction."
Pros: "Nice airplane and very friendly staff once finally on board."
Cons: "Please read previous comments (copied and pasted below) I should never have been sold the flight. The connecting time was too short - even under normal circumstances without delay I was told that I had a solid chance of missing the flight. Furthermore, once I finally made it into Montreal for my connecting flight, no one did anything to expedite my experience. They tried to get me to my final destination 24 hours after I was supposed to be there - they had a packet of accommodations for hotel and flight already prepped (mind you, I had only missing my flight by 10 minutes so clearly my seat was sold to someone else), and they didn't want to accommodate me in any other way. Explaining that I was meeting a friend who had taken another flight, I was told that the problem was not his and there was nothing I could do. Even though I found flights on Kayak and on Air Canada site for an alternate flight getting me out to Europe a few hours later, I was told "no can do." I asked him to speak to a manager and suddenly he was on the phone and (successfully) accomodating me. BUT. The flight was a connecting flight (connection in Rome to final destination Barcelona) - and he hadn't booked me the Rome to Barcelona portion. i was told - "go see the stand in Rome and they will have your ticket ready to go." They didn't have anything on their record but did tell me that this flight should not have been booked for me without having a ticket for my final destination. This was a hellish experience and I will be writing reviews and contacting Air Canada further to discuss this whole process."
Pros: "the crew on that flight was very pleasant and helpful"
Cons: "I missed my connection in Montreal because the flight was 2 hours late to get in and Air Canada staff in Lyon had told me I did not need to get my luggage in Montreal but only in Toronto to go through US custom ... which was not true. The airport staff in Montreal was absolutely unhelpful and sent me in 10 different directions. I was finally rebooked for a later flight, and the person there was finally very nice and helpful."
Cons: "In Toronto they told us that we most likely will miss our flight. Why?? Plenty of time!! No need for miss information. Ground crew not well trained. No boarding pass was given (which is fine). 1 hour wait because of power failure at the airport in Montreal and then we are about to take off and there was an engine failure so we had to come back again . Not good stuff!!!! How would you feel flying again air canada?"
Cons: "On the Montreal-Athens leg the meal was free but of poor quality and quantity. Breakfast was just a piece of banana bread... No entertainment system in the aircraft. Had to rent iPad with very poor quality earphones (struggled to listen to the movies) Also some of the movies were not adjusted for the iPad which translated into using only a portion of the iPad screen."
Cons: "We didn't like having to pay for carry on luggage. When we left SFO and flew to Montreal, if your bag was 21 inches, not 20 they checked it for free. Traveling back to SFO the counter person made us pay to check a bag, even though we knew if we went to the gate, they would take it. This was not good or consistent. We will not fly on Air Canada"
Pros: "Nice plane."
Cons: "The flight was quite late. I was traveling alone with 3 kids and asked the attendant if he could help us get off early and/or find out at which gate our connecting flight was located. His response, "most people on here have connecting flights." We were unable to board the next flight despite running to get there with time to board, as "our suitcases would not make it." I feel the staff made no effort. At least 12 others also missed this connection and the very small plane could easily have been delayed to load the suitcases."
Pros: "It wasn't a full flight, so there was more room to stretch out"
Cons: "Left my luggage behind (both mine and my daughter's) and I still haven't received it 3 days into my trip. Air Canada reps were not very helpful with information or solutions. I was in hold for almost 20min total (international call). Horribly unacceptable. All they initially offered was $50 to cover expenses (insulting)."
Cons: "Changed the non stop flight on me to stop in TO from Montreal. Really lame and added 3 extra hours to my flight back to Los Angeles."
Pros: "AC gave special seats for free when we told our travel agent that we did'nt like to be seated in the back of the plane. V"
Cons: "Old model 767 with uncomfortable seats. No video player unless you bought your own or rented iPad for 10$. Kinda steep for an overseas trip. No free booze either."
