Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews
Pros: "The crew is always friendly at Porter. The free wine is awesome."
Cons: "There’s no entertainment."
Cons: "I was ripped of by baggage check!! They sold my a basic fare, which is 20 less than standard, but never told me I had to check my back which cost 40! Ended up costing me more!! I was furious"
Pros: "Efficient check in. Liked the shuttle bus service from subway to airport."
Cons: "As expected this is a commuter flight so very stripped down in terms of amenities. Tight plane seating and those overhead bins just barely accommodate the carry on."
Pros: "Crew on plane were very good; gate agent was not."
Cons: "Assertive gate agent in Toronto insisted I check my carry-on even though it was within regs and there was lots of overhead space (I was 2nd on the plane) but he insisted saying it would be waiting for me as I debarked (not true-came down carousel with checked bags)"
Pros: "Cheap price of the airline ticket."
Cons: "I was booked where someone was already sitting. It was difficult because I was with my two young children. And someone else was booked in my child's seat also."
Cons: "The 4pm flight not leaving at 10pm. Or at least being informed that the flight was gonna be delayed before 3 pm"
Pros: "It was a short flight."
Cons: "The departure was delayed by one hour. No explanation was given."
Pros: "The crew is lovely"
Cons: "Porters flights out of Toronto have been significantly delayed every time I’ve flown"
Cons: "Take off was delayed delayed delayed. Boarding was chaos with many of us directed to three different gates. Super chatty flight attendant with her peers was disruptive/unprofessional"
Cons: "Perfect for what I needed."
Cons: "Heads up to US citizens coming in from Canada: customs took 45 minutes, on a week day morning when there were very few of us."
Cons: "Same as previous answer, but due to cancellation of earlier flight and our connection being delayed, ended up not landing in Newark until about 10pm when we originally should've landed in around 3. This caused us to miss a Broadway show we had bought tickets for ($150/ticket) as well as lost out on dinner reservations we had made. We then had to take an Uber as our friends could not pick us up at that time (a further $80). My son had taken off three days from work and we lost most of the first one due to Porter's incompetence. Their only comment was that they weren't obliged to do anything for us because we had booked through an agent and not directly with Porter."
Cons: "the flight was late!!!!!!!!!! without explanation"
Cons: "1 hour delay due to weather"
Pros: "Landing at Billy Bishop is very convenient."
Cons: "20 minutes delay on the incoming first flight, 35 minutes on the out coming flight. Our organization sent 100 persons to an event in Toronto this weekend. Some colleagues that had a 2 pm flight were told that they would leave by the 10 pm flight. Our flight eas already delayed, the door had been already closed, but it was reopened so that a passenger, who had arrived last, could go back to the lounge to pickup some fhat he had forgotten. Porter has become a very unreliable company. Like some of my colleagues, I will now consider flying out of Pearson airport sadly."
Pros: "City Center airport and staff at Porter was great"
Cons: "Flight kept getting delayed without explanation or rescheduling. Each "new" time had already passed when it was set, e.g., "The new departure time is noon" when it was already 12:15."
Cons: "Weather, plane and crew delays. Poor communication."
Pros: "Free drinks."
Cons: "Delayed flight"
Pros: "The flight was great. Left on time and arrived on time. Great service from the flight attendants."
Cons: "The gates and waiting areas are like kennels. No order. No information on the flight board. Just don’t fly it. Don’t do it. Delayed flights. No information or confusing information from various crew. Don’t fly this airline. Unless you have days to kill and aren’t in a rush to go somewhere or get home. It is really awful."
Pros: "This was my first time flying Porter. The flight was a reasonable price, the service was great. The aircraft was a little on the smaller side but still spacious enough for comfortable travel."
Pros: "Lounge Snacks"
Pros: "Ease of boarding. Carry on luggage is handled by crew staff - makes boarding much easier as passengers aren't struggling to find space for the carry on bags. The bags are ready for pickup upon exiting the aircraft. Would highly recommend Porter and would use again."
Cons: "Flight was approx. 10 minutes late, but the time was made up during the flight."
Pros: "The complimentary drinks at the Toronto waiting lounge."
Cons: "The price. The porter domestic flight was more expensive than the flying from Canada to USA on AirCanada."
Pros: "There was a 30 min. delay. The waiting area was crowed and the audio system poor. The speaker's speech was so garbled it was hard to decipher what was being said about the delay and boarding. The flight itself was fine with very friendly crew."
Cons: "the flight was delayed many times with no real explanation. i tried calling customer service to get on an earlier flight, wait time was 75 minutes, and i found out that the earlier flights had been over sold so there were no openings... and they cancelled other flights later in the day which is why the earlier flights were overbooked. Also, the flight attendants seem to be militant about everything during take off and landing (this is not a good thing). If a customer wants to land with headphones in, i do not see a problem. this seems to be a change from every other porter flight ive been on."
Cons: "it was the last connecting flight and it was cancelled."
Pros: "Nothing. My first and last time to book with ghem"
Cons: "See above"
Pros: "Waiting for your plane, the actually gate in which you waited was nice."
Cons: "I did not like how there kiosk worked because I didn't have access to a 6 digit confirmation number or they didn't give me an email todo online check in early."
Pros: "My past 4 Porter flights over a few months have had at least 40 minutes of delays. They all also had the annoying pattern of announcing that the delay would be extended a few times, then saying no more delays, then not boarding until after the newest departure time while claiming no more delays. Toronto airport is cute but wifi is pretty bad and hasn't worked at all a few times. Recently gate area has been ridiculously overcrowded, people sitting all over the floor. Free food/drinks is nice but still very limited options and unsurprisingly people make a big mess of the free food area. Overall I prefer a large clean airports where wifi always works well and you can always find a seat for the 30+ minutes you wait for your flight."
Cons: "Wifi Crowded gate Delays Bad communication/dishonesty about delays"
Cons: "Our flight to Chicago was cancelled, we didn't get so much as an email letting us know (checked the flight status at 1am for a 8am flight and it said on time) we found out at the porter counter at the airport that or flight was cancelled and we were delayed until the next day!!! Next day we realize they didn't schedule us on the first OR second flight of the day but the third so we were delayed by 36 hours instead of 24!!!! The planes are tiny, very old, quite dirty. The staff seem totally non chalant about all these cancelled flights and allllll of the delays and repeatedly say that the airline is understaffed... hello i don't care why my vacation was cut short by 36 hours and i got stuck paying 200$ for a hotel room tat i didn't get to stay in!!! Get your act together Porter!!!!"
Pros: "On the whole a great experience"
Cons: "Nothing to not like"
Pros: "Onboard crew was very nice"
Cons: "Crew didn't answer any of my questions, were snappy, and rude."
Cons: "Flight left without us despite being a connecting flight and the customer service rep was rude and useless. Future flights were cancelled or severely delayed. Had to cancel that flight and use Air Canada to get to Montreal"
Pros: "Free to switch to earlier same day flight flying Toronto to Newark. Lounge in Toronto with free snacks, soda, and coffee. Free snack, drinks, and free alcohol in flight."
Cons: "Baggage policy unclear: carry on bags must be under 9 kg, supposed to be tagged as "approved" before boarding but process unclear at least at Toronto."
Cons: "Major delays. Flight hot. Crew very nice."
Pros: "Best service"
Pros: "Small airport. Easy to find everything. Ferry ride fun. Staff did not seem happy to be at work nor did they smile or acknowledge me. I asked 2 staff questions and was barked at: red line! And was told to get into a line that was non existent outside of security."
Cons: "I asked if I was supposed to leave my luggage in the rack that was just outside of the plane because I saw that's what everyone was doing. I was told it was my choice but that if it didn't fit in the overhead I would have to come back out and put it on the rack. I was very dismayed when I got off the plane to see that I had to wait in the hallway for quite a while until my luggage appeared. It was a real traffic jam of people. I really wish I had put my luggage in the overhead. Also, minutes before boarding we were told to go and verify our passports. It was quite a rush to run to the other end of the room, wait in line and then get to the boarding gate. I barely made it back in time even though I had been waiting there for nearly an hour ."
Pros: "There were mechanical delays, so Porter gave an $8 voucher to spend in the airport, which was a nice touch since I had never received that from other airlines who also had mechanical delays."
Pros: "I love the lounge, the free drink, and the snacks. The free drink ad lounge are why I choose Porter."
Cons: "Flight attendants are polite but can be slightly intimidating. I asked if my flight attendant had a pen I could borrow for my customs card, and he seemed irritated at the request. I think they should decline requests in a more friendly manner."
Cons: "Specifically purchased a $350 USD one way ticket with 2 1/2 hr travel time from Montreal to Windsor with a 30 min layover in Toronto, After landing in Toronto, same plane flies to Windsor once some passengers de-board and others board. There were only a 6 or 7 passengers left on the plane after landing in Toronto and in 5 min Porter announced that they are cancelling the flight without giving a reason. The actual reason is there was not enough passengers to make it worth for them to fly plane to Windsor, so gave us the option to be booked on the next flight in 3hrs or the following in 6hrs. Issued a $50 CAN voucher (good for 6 month on Prorter) for the inconvenience and a $10 meal credit. NOT really a good deal, as they value your time at $20 per hour in voucher credits, but charged $350 for the ticket in real money. No representatives there can help in any other way or offer anything other than the $50 voucher. Just sit and wait in an overcrowded lounge. The flight to Windsor 3 hrs later was completely full,"
Cons: "Same issues as above"
Pros: "Very convenient and very good service"
Pros: "Comfortable experience. Porter Airport offered great city views of Toronto."
Pros: "Service. Location of both Toronto Island and Chicago Midway are closer to downtown than the bigger airports in each city."
Cons: "Porter was a nice, small, well-kept secret. Now they have expanded quite a bit and the lounge is always full, to the extent that people are sitting all over the ground. Flights are almost always late to take-off. I guess all good things must come to an end."
Pros: "I took Porter many times in the past. Many delays, never major, and I found landing at city airport were convenient enough to Override the annoyance of the delays."
Cons: "This time my flight was cancelled. For no particular reasons (not due to weather). That was the only flight that was cancelled of the whole day. All other were flying. They did not say why. My guess is not enough passenger on the flight to make it worth it to fly for them. They rebooked me 24 hours later. I called customer service to ask for support and I received no support at all. I explained I was having a high risk pregnancy and was out of medication and needed to be at my DR appointment I had the next morning in Chicago. They said that there's nothing they can do. They also said additionally we also want to mention that we do not support for accomadation cost. I did not even ask but it's like they wanted to highlight that no support is given. I asked to speak to a supervisor. Told him I would like support to rebook a non Porter flight to get on time to Chicago. Again he said I am sorry we don't do that. I mentioned I was shocked that they don't even care that I was saying it was a medical reason and I asked for his name saying I will hold Porter responsible if any difficulty would happen because of this. At that point they searched for a solution. He said ok you can be on a flight but you need to board in 30 minutes. Impossible for me to do where I was but this should have been proposed to me earlier so I could have made it. And I would have done it. Second solution he gave me was to be in Ottawa boarding in 1 hour. Again impossible I was in Montreal with no car. He said you cannot hold me responsible if anything happen with your pregnancy I offered you solutions. Thank you Porter all impossible to do at the time you offered them. If you offered them all to me on time that would have maybe be possible. Anyway they made me miss 2 days of work + my doctor appointment I had to go without medication for a few days + paid for a extra hotel room. Next time I am taking air canada delta or United . I will pay more but at least I will have the guarantee to be taken in charge by their customer service if delays or cancellations happen."
Pros: "The flight was smooth and quick. I liked the free shuttle to the airport from downtown Toronto. Also, there was an underwater walkway from the main building to the gates instead of having to wait for the ferry since the airport is on an island. Boarding was quick and take off and landing were equally as quick. One additional note, the airlines uses drinking glasses instead of plastic cups which was a nice change!"
Cons: "There was about a 30 minute delay to board the flight due to weather conditions even though the weather was pretty clear for both destinations. It was a little overcast when we left, but there was no inclement weather from what we could see."
Pros: "Thank god, I found a gentleman at a different counter to help me. The lady at the counter said "not my problem as I did not cancel your flight, its the airline" !!!! Totally unprofessional"
Cons: "I booked an emergency ticket in the morning for a late flight to get in to newark for my sister's surgery the next day. The flight got cancelled, no email sent to me even though service counter people kept saying that they did. I am at the airport in a long line with only one counter open and the rep not even bothering to help me. I am a 60 year old from another country and have knee problems. Thankfully someone took mercy on me and helped me out to catch another flight so I could leave. Its unfortunate that flight cancellations happen in such a way without making sure the passengers are all contacted and alternatives made for them. it is also unfortunate the airport only does porter airlines and there are no other flights that can be made available when flights get cancelled"
Pros: "Professional, but friendly crew."
Pros: "seat was the worse, but ok overall"
Pros: "Cleanliness of the plane Great crew"
Cons: "More information about when to check-in and seat selection. We checked-in 24 hours before, and most seats were already filled."
Pros: "Overall not bad at all :)"
Cons: "All was good"
Cons: "Hello, I just needed to voice my dissatisfaction with this fight. I’m not sure if every Westjet flight I was lucky and had amazing crew members or if the staff on this flight was having a bad flight. Our flight was delayed by 75min. The flight crew did not attend to any requests from the customers for the 75min we were on the tarmac. I asked for headphones and the crew member look agitated I asked made a remark about how nobody buys them so she didn’t know how much they are. She said she would come back with the price, and did not. I had to wait for the beverage cart and then order them again. Then I asked for an additional can of ginger ale. The gentleman said he’ll need to come back (as he was cleaning the garbage). He never came back. I had to hit the assistance button again and got the original woman. Once again agitated and when I asked she said to wait for the beverage cart again. After another 10-15min they started the beverage service again. On previous flights there were delays, shorter like 30min westjet crew members gave free headphones. And those are the kind of experiences I’ve come to expect from westjet. Not the free aspect but flight crew that care about the customers. The entire crew on this flight was agitated and annoyed from boarding and it definitely showed. Small things like even a smile or even sorry everyone, would’ve gone a long way. But when the crew doesn’t care the flight gets 10x longer, and when the flight is already delayed by 25% of the flight duration it comes to a point where you’re counting down the seconds to get out. The delay was unfortunate and out of the control of the company and crew but that doesn’t mean the crew couldn’t still make it into a memorable experience for the guests."
Cons: "Seats too narrow with little leg room."
Cons: "My other WestJet flights let me have access to wifi via the WestJet app and the entertainment console. I was disappointed to not have access on this flight."
Cons: "Always delays with this airline, hope their service improves now they have been bought out by Air Canada. Staff need training on how to deal with their delays, rather than the "I know as much as you" answer. Their staff have always pleaded blind ignorance when disruptions occur. AVOID."
Cons: "The boarding process is terrible. One line for section 2,3,4 causes so much chaos."
Cons: "Issue handling for delay"
Cons: "Timing. The flight was delayed by an hour."
Pros: "Seat okay. I have long legs so not enough leg room for me."
Cons: "No complaints"
Pros: "Not much, other than it got us to our destination about 15 minutes ahead of schedule"
Cons: "The food on WestJet is atrocious when you purchase Plus seats. If you are on a flight less than 2.5 hrs you get cookies or pretzels and poor wine. If you are on a flight over 2.5 hrs you get some hot in a box. I had an egg and bacon fajita. The fajita was like warm cardboard."
Pros: "Simply took 4 mins and I was away !"
Cons: "Everyone was great that I dealt with West Jet is great !"
Cons: "Lil late"
Cons: "Stewardesses were very unfriendly. Biscuit and water? Your pulling out of sudbury but we as paying customers still deserve to be treated better. Plane was clean and flight on time."
Cons: "The flight left without me"
Pros: "The flight itself was okay. Nothing bad to say."
Cons: "We didn't know that you need an app to watch movies on your own devices with West Jet. Y u need to download the app before you get to the airport, because the WiFi doesn't work at the airport or on the plane. I don't have data on my phone or tablet."
Pros: "Great flight, quick, efficient, good service & on time."
Cons: "In flight entertainment was unavailable- solely GPS map was accessible on in flight entertainment."
Pros: "Boarding was quick and easy. Crew were very efficient and pleasant."
Cons: "No food on an international flight over 5 hours long? Every Asian airline offers free hot meals and tickets are cheaper than WestJet for a similar distance. I paid for 3 hours of Internet and ithe signal lasted 30 minutes into the trip. Money wasted. Seats were so uncomfortable, like vinyl seats in a 1970s car. My back and tailbone were aching after 30 minutes."
Cons: "Did not get my choice for my prepaid meal but the replacement meal was ok."
Pros: "Flight was on time."
Cons: "Having to exit the terminal and go through security again when changing planes in Toronto."
Pros: "Great leg room...clean"
Cons: "All of the onboard staff was great except for one. She was visible grumpy. She was rude to an elderly couple sitting next to me. Her impatience with them ended up that she didn't get their drink order right. She challenged them on whether they really said they wanted milk and sugar or just sugar. Then she rolled her eyes and huffed and puffed about someone else waiting to get down the aisle after going to the bathroom. The client was had patience and was talking to those around her. The server was verbally frustrated and everyone knew by her words and facial expressions. There was an elderly lady with a cane who she was very brusk and impatient with. Her tone was condesending and dismissive."
Pros: "Thought the flight left a little late, we still arrived on time."
Cons: "The seats weren't that comfortable. Though I'm not fat there was little room to move left or right there was however ample leg room considering I'm fairly tall. Though the flights are quite expensive no meal is included., only drinks and snacks."
Pros: "getting to Vancouver in short time."
Cons: "No movi"
Pros: "The female flight attendant and the pilot spoke reassuringly and with friendliness."
Cons: "This was the most negative experience I’ve ever had flying Westjet. The female flight attendant was wonderful, fun and friendly and professional. The two younger male attendants were incredibly rude, rolled their eyes, ignored me, put themselves first (at one point instead of making room for me to return to my seat the blond one insisted I let him pass when it was unsafe for me to do so and nowhere for me to go). I felt demoralized by these two men and it’s both surprised and disappointed me as Westjet staff have a reputation for friendliness. These two men will Discourage me from flying Westjet when travelling to LA again. Not pleasant. Again the women was lovely. I tried to catch the male names but they wouldn’t stop and face me for long enough for me to see their name tags. They seemed to have some inside jokes between them and gave me the sense my requests were not welcome or respected. I am a nervous flyer and this was such a difficult and uncomfortable Experience."
Cons: "The flight from Toronto to Phoenix was even worse than Air Canada. No food available to purchase. Cramped seating. Entertainment system was difficult to navigate...the buttons didn't work half the time, the movies were already playing and all the "bad" words were edited out which changed the entire movie. Waste of time. Would not fly WestJet again based on this experience. And what's the point of checking in online when you're called to verify id again at the check in counter."
Pros: "The information given by the pilot overhead was timely and well delivered. The flight was smooth and we arrived safely."
Cons: "We sat for 4 hours on the runway. Aside from 1 crew member, they were impersonal, rude, and unaccomodating. They pilot spoke overhead very pleasantly and apologetically and encouraged walking around and using the restroom but they crew gave everyone a hard time. There was no offer of complementary food service or compensation for anyone despite being on the plane for double the amount of time planned. Finally, the in flight entertainment worked for maybe half hour of the actual flight with no explanation or acknowledgement."
Cons: "Our hour-long flight home from Toronto to Ottawa was delayed by two days. WestJet provided a hotel voucher and food vouchers for one day but refused to refund us for a car rental that would get us home in time. While we made our own way home, we were emailed to say that our flight home was delayed twice more."
Pros: "Food was OK and the crew were ok."
Cons: "Our flight was supposed to leave a t 1045. Half an hour before the flight was to depart we were told that the plane is her, but it is in the hangar and they are trying to get it to the terminal for loading. (can you believe) Once it miraculously got to the terminal the crew had to do a safety check etc etc and we boarded the flight 30 minutes after scheduled departure time. We were then informed that the plane had to be fuelled with 20,000 lbs of fuel while we were boarded. This took another 20 minutes. Then they had to de ice. We departed 1 hour after the scheduled time. They ran out of meals on row 14. The entertainment system did not work. When the fasten seat belt sign was on and an announcement came on to stay in your seats, people were wandering around aimlessly and the crew never enforced the announcement. All in all a less than satisfactory experience and an airline I would not fly again if I can help it."
Pros: "Absolutely nothing about this extremely delayed flight"
Cons: "I was stuck at Pearson International for 5 hours before I was able to get on a different, direct West Jet flight which also ended up being severely delayed."
Pros: "Our flight moved up one hour from our original booking, which wasn't ideal, though we were rerouted, transferring in Calgary rather than Vancouver. This should have saved us time, so we didn't mind."
Cons: "But then we sat on the tarmac in Toronto for an hour and a half, which cause us to miss our connecting flight in Calgary. In the end, we got home later than planned. The flight was fine, but the changes and delays were frustrating."
Pros: "Staff were great"
Cons: "No water hot or. Old on the plane and nearly 5 hour delay on New Year’s Eve :("
Cons: "Didn't fly on the day I was supposed to fly due to delays. I had to figure out for myself that I wasn't going to make my connection and thus I went back home. We agreed to itinerary for the next day that had a 2+ hour wait at la Guardia and yet I still almost missed the N.Y. to Tampa flight due to delays out of toronto. Had to sprint from one terminal to the other. In Toronto we sat on the tarmac for 90 mins, and this was after dealing with security and other issues with checkin before i even got on the plane. For example, it was difficult to explain that i had already paid for my checked bag the day before. As a result I never got a chance to eat the entire day. And then my bag didn't get to Tampa until later that night anyways. Although the individual staff members were all very nice, there were institutional flaws that made two days very frustrating. I have some sort of debilitating delay on more than half my flights over the last few years, and rarely is there ever an explanation or compensation."
Pros: "We took off, we flew, we landed and walked away."
Cons: "5hrs and 9min flight time. Add boarding and alighting at the other end - adds up to over 6 hours travel time. WestJet will supply you with a coffee or tea and a cookie, pretzel or cheese stick packet. Wow! You get to watch fair selection of movies etc on your own phone or tablet - IF you have downloaded the app BEFORE you leave the terminal.Wow! If you need to wait for the bathroom the stewardess tells you to wait in the aisle behind row 3... really? So I can't just stand here in the galley and wait... no sir, behind row 3. Best advice - fly Air Canada - these guys do not deserve your money!"
Pros: "The pilot was awesome and the crew."
Pros: "Boarding was a breeze and we arrived in Cancun early which was great."
Cons: "The cabin was freezing. I fly often and I always pack a sweater and a blanket but even that couldn’t keep me warm because the cabin was so cold Also, my meal that I purchased on the flight was frozen all the way through. It was literally like biting into a popsicle. My teeth hurt for the rest of the flight after just one bite. I asked for another sandwich which took a while because they were busy with other passengers. My replacement sandwich felt just as cold but it wasn’t frozen solid like the first one. It seems like a minor inconvenience but it became quite frustrating."
Pros: "Quick, efficient and funny friendly staff"
Pros: "The granola as the in flight snack."
Cons: "There was not enough options if you wanted more water, or juice. There was not even a soda option available."
Cons: "Late boarding and then late departure After landing, baggage delayed as well"
Cons: "We flew from Toronto - Abbotsford with a stop in Edmonton. There was a 1 hour layover in Edmonton before the Edmonton - Abbotsford flight left. Unfortunately, the plane arrived in Edmonton 30 minutes late, and rather than wait 5 minutes for the passengers to disembark from the Toronto plane and board the Abbotsford plane, WestJet decided to leave all those passengers behind. There were no other flights available until the evening, and we were stuck for 8 hours at the Edmonton Airport before we were finally given a flight to Abbotsford. Never again will I book with WestJet."
Pros: "Flight staff"
Cons: "Had to disembark. So left and arrived much later than planned."
Pros: "The flight over all was good. Service, and delivery of the expectations were good. Even though the items listed in the dislike are 3 in number, and added to an uncomfortable experience, some of them are identifiable as beyond control, yet others are within the control of system set up or process."
Cons: "small items that I didn't like were : 1) Temperature, and 2) wifi 3) waiting for electrical. 1) Temperature: When boarding the plane the Temperature of the cabin was extremely warm. The pilot advised of the condition, this was not something that could have been fixed and I think they handled it well. I just didn't like the 90+ temperature 2) Wifi: was intermittent, I ensured the Westjet app was the only one running, but the movie I was watching was pausing every 15 minutes to buffer. So it was a constant reminder of dial up.... 3) waiting for electrical: Upon landing and taxi-ing to the ramp, the pilot was advised that there was no electrical to support the plane after he turned off the engines. So good that he waited, thank you pilot, and not so good as it was another unpleasant item on the plane ride."
Pros: "The service its good"
Cons: "One baggage did not arrived"
Pros: "I always feel welcome when traveling with WestJet. Their cheerful, knowledgeable staff are committed to their passengers wellbeing. They create an atmosphere of comfort, and the seats with enough reclining and leg room add to that. Wherever possible I will always fly with WestJet!"
Cons: "All good"
Cons: "Low-quality white wine. Good to encourage Canadian production but cheap choices do not help the airline's réputation."
Pros: "Comfortable newish aircraft. No entertainement, but it is ok for a short flight; same with food."
Cons: "They misplaced my luggage, I received it about 36 hours later. Most important: they never called me for updates (contrary to their own information sheet). I had to call several times; their online follow-up is badly set up, too."
Cons: "Flight delayed 1.5 hours because incoming plane did not arrive. Finally took off 2.5 hours late. Just in time to arrive in Charlottetown to a severe thunderstorm. Circled til low on fuel then flew to Moncton. Refuelled and flew back to Charlottetown, arriving at 3 a.m., four hours late. The weather delay was understandable but WestJet's poor scheduling created the problem. Worst of all, the airline never told anyone what was going on, not the passengers nor the people waiting for them at the airport. Total silence. Unbelievable but typical for airlines."
Pros: "After our horrendous flight to America with Norwegian (never again!!!) it was refreshing to have some space and the staff was friendly"
Cons: "lnternet was very expensive ($4-5 for 30 minutes, so l did not bother) no entertainment whatsoever, but okay for a budget flight during the night"
Pros: "The customer service phone number was impossible to get through on in order to take to someone within 24 hours of my flight in order to make my Special Meals request as I have Celiac's Disease. I was unable to make this selection at booking as when you book through a third party like Expedia, which I did, you cannot access the same internal tools required to make that selection. You can ONLY then call once you have checked in before the flight in order to let the airline know of your Special Meal needs. This is not only a terrible policy as it undercuts those who ARE ultimately still buying tickets to their airline, and that the airline is CHOOSING to sell. It provided me with an extremely subpar experience of the airline but left up to the last minute with doubts about my ability to board a 13 he international flight without the reassurance that I would have ANY meals aboard and no other options should that be the case. Right before my flight departed I was reassured that the information we had requested Expedia relay to the airline internally the day before, who we called when we couldn't get through to the airline, WAS able to convey this Special Meal request and I was going to have food on the flight, so I then did not purchase a bunch of snacks in the airport to have as options. The first meal in, no Special Meal was provided and I had to explain then entire situation all over again. They assured me they would figure it out and get me taken care of. However, no one who assisted me conveyed this to anyone else on the flight and every time food was dispersed, same situation. This was stressful and exhausting and the options provided me were modified to be gluten free, such as an entire plate of fruit for my snack, instead of the protein heavy snack everyone else received, because there truly wasn't extra for that type of dietary restriction. This was stressful and I was very hungry on the flight. One of the attendants got me a few chunks of cheese from first class, but otherwise, it wasn't great. I would advise travelers with Special Meal requests NOT to fly with AirCanada."
Cons: "There were several announcements to download the Air Canada app in order to access in flight entertainment. They must have been 5-6 announcements about this. WiFi access was to start after take off in order to use the app. but was never available."
Pros: "Better staff than normally, which was both surprising and pleasant. Flight made it on time for the changeover in Zurich, which is very important."
Cons: "Extra charge for luggage - it showed up in the itinerary only after everything has been paid for. And even the paid suitcase allowed 23 kg only. It has been just over TEN years ago that you had two suitcases at 32 kg each included in price! Does the airline seriously believe that you can travel around the world with just a swim trunk in your pocket? This policy is an insult to any world traveller. We do not all go into an all-inclusive resort! The only drink offered during the flight was plain water, again a step down from before where they also offered others, e.g. orange juice. Seating - now that big persons have the right for two seats for the price of one, when will the same rational apply to tall people?"
Cons: "Flight was more than 2 hours late - same as the flight from Columbus to Toronto when we left- the ground crew did not know or care where the plane (a replacement craft) was coming from or when it arrived and let it sit on the ramp for about 15 minutes before marshaling it in and the seats we got after waiting all that time were excessively worn and felt like we were sitting in bowls. The logistics either of Air Canada or at the Toronto airport for domestic flights stinks. I will try to avoid both in future."
Cons: "One of the washrooms was a disgrace! There was vomit or diarrhea or both on the floor and on the top to the toilet seat. No one bothered to clean it up. Also, my wife identified herself to Lufthansa that she has celiac's disease, yet when the food cart came by, she was informed that all she could purchase that was gluten free was nuts. We found out later that there was a fruit and cheese plate available. Also, it seems that there were few items available from the on board menu. Why bother even having a menu if many of the items were not available? Air Canada should be ashamed!"
Cons: "Air Canada Check In staff were extremely rude and unhelpful. My flight was at 7pm and I arrived at 6:10pm because I got stuck in traffic. I had already checked in online, all I needed was to get my baggage tags and drop my bag off. Instead of telling me where to print out my tag, they made me stand in line to talk to the check in staff at the counter. By the time I got to the counter, it was 7:40 and there was zero chance of my bag being checked in for this flight with the staff showing me attitude. When I told him that all I was here before the drop-off time and all I wanted were tags and that his other staff just told me to line up without helping, he just said "you can buy another ticket for the next flight or leave your bag here and pick it up when you return from your trip." Honestly, the worst customer experience I have ever had!"
Cons: "We were delayed 2 times, got on the plane, everything seemed fine and then maintenance crews were on the plane, the door was left open so it was freezing on the plane. Then we were told at 12:30am that it was cancelled. We had to go back through customs, pick up our luggage and find an agent who gave us a voucher for a hotel room. Never made it to the hotel until 1:30am, had to get up at 5:30am, go back to the airport, check our baggage, go through security and customs which the lines were extremely long and get on a 9:30am flight. Horrible!!!!!"
Pros: "The plane was clean and seemed very new. The boarding process was streamlined in an organized way. The entertainment system was okay."
Cons: "The plane was a huge B787 Dreamliner and the airline didn't allot enough boarding time to accommodate the hundreds of passengers that needed to get on and settle in. Because of this, the flight was delayed by almost an hour and many people missed their transfers. It seemed like an unreasonable lack of foresight to schedule only the standard half hour before takeoff to board ~300 passengers. On top of that, the flight was roughly four hours long (five with the delay) and no complementary food, even a small snack or two, was offered. The seats in coach were made to be decently comfortable padding-wise, but I felt more packed in like a sardine with the people next to me than on other planes. The flight attendants seemed extremely stressed and overworked, and I couldn't blame them."
Cons: "Our flight was delayed from Cleveland and so was the plane going to London . We made it to the gate 15 minutes before boarding was complete . When we get to the gate they told us our seat is gone , someone else got it and we are booked to tomorrows flight and put in a hotel. Me and other 10 people was kicked off because they over soled the flight . Very frustrating and disappointing !!!!!!! Luckily the lady at costumer service was really helpful and put me and an other girl on a flight to Dublin the same night."
Pros: "Their sympathy for our atrocious wait was, free pop and water, and some pretzels. $30 meal vouchers at the limited options gate area, which could only be used towards a meal (really? no where else?). Here's a were sorry email and a discount on your next flight with us. I have yet to see how much the significant cost for that discount but my expectations of Air Canada are very low."
Cons: "That delay was horrendous, I spent 10 hours at an airport. I woke up so god damn early to get there because of news spreading the worries of people waiting at customs immigration to the U.S. it only took us 40min to get through and the flight delay notice was given an hour and a half before departure. We couldn't even sleep on any benches because they were all designed for individuals to sit. It wasn't until our gate location moved to the end of that area was there any carpeted floor space to sleep on. On the flight, economy seating was very tight with limited leg room, and best of all our seats had no window, literally every other row in our section had a window. Air Canada handled this stressful event very poorly, once they figured out bringing a new air craft hours later, and everyone moved to the new gate area, all the attendants had left from their gate post until 40min before the flight which was hours later."
Cons: "At the gate, we were told our plane would leave soon. An hour later, they announced the flight was cancelled and we were briskly escorted out of the terminal, told to go through customs and pick up our luggage, which had never even made it on to the plane. They were not re-booking flights at the airport, and the phone lines went to a voice mail message telling us to call back in a few days. I was stranded in Toronto with no phone and no where to stay. It's a week later and I still have not heard anything from from, even though I've called and emailed and sent snail mail."
Cons: "They had nothing together. My first flight was delayed so I got in late and my connecting flight was rescheduled for 5 hours later. Their "free meal voucher" for rescheduling amounts to one slice of pizza and no drink. The airport then lost my checked bag and kept me waiting in one room for 4 of those hours to where I was still rushing to catch my next flight. Air Canada then forgot to assign a plane to my new second flight so I waited another 2 hours to board. Once boarded, the airline made us wait another hour while they loaded bags, then unloaded some of the wrong bags thy put on. They then tacked 25 minutes in the wrong direction and we went all the way back. I have never seen so many people rushing the customer service desks because they missed their connecting flights, throughout the entire time I was stuck in Toronto. Additionally, their "in flight movie system" doesn't work unless you rent one of their iPads. It prompts you to download Java Flash player even if you already have it instead of asking to run it. Then once you allow it, you get a 1-2 second animation then the movie breaks. There are similar errors with their music and tv show features, I tried all of these in my laptop and phone."
Pros: "the crew didn't do anything to make it horrible Large selection of movies/tv on board comfiest seats out of all the major airlines I've flown"
Cons: "The flight kept getting delayed bc of mechanical problems, and then eventually cancelled. They got the majority of people on a new plane, but the gates kept getting changed so it was a lot of back and forth. Plus the pretzels they gave us were stale. This was the second of two flights I took this trip that had mechanical issues, so they obviously need to fix their planes better or get new ones, because two Air Canada flights in one day that have mechanical problems leaves me worried that the planes aren't in optimal condition. It took me over 24 hours to get from Tucson, AZ to Montreal, Canada when normal travel takes less than 8 hours including layovers. I am worried about my return flights, not gonna lie (for my safety and time). Thankfully I'm returning a couple of days before I return to work, but I know other people that travel for business and that is a huge inconvenience."
Cons: "i booked the flight in january and keyed in my passport expiration date several times online in the next several months...at the airport, i handed the air canada agent in miami my passport and she booked me and a checked bag through toronto to copenhagen...i went to board my connecting flight in toronto and was told my passport, which expires at the end of august, was no good as i needed to have 3 month left...so they refused to let me board and told me to go see customer service...so i go stand in line for several hours (was only one agent for the first 45 minutes and 10 people in front of me)...one woman going down the line to see what each person's issue was told me that it was my problem, not AC's...and that "we are only responsible for making sure your passport is valid for getting into canada"...i was on my own to find a hotel and a new flight...fortunately a supervisor saw me standing in a daze several minutes later and said that it was AC's mistake for not catching it in miami...so she booked me into a hotel, gave me the address to the US consulate and instructions on how to get an emergency passport...she said that it would be no problem as "this happens all the time"and went ahead and booked me on the next day's flight...so i was able to spend the next day getting the new passport and getting back to the airport to fly out that night, but i lost a day in copenhagen with my family...it seems to me that when flights are booked and passport info, including expiration date, are given, a simple cross check of dates would be easy, and, imho, incumbent upon the carrier taking you there, especially when "it happens all the time"...this was not done on 4 occasions between booking and my trip...there were other issues too which is why i will never fly air canada again and i will never travel though toronto...the return trip through that airport was a nightmare for many passengers."
Pros: "As we approached Raleigh ~3:15am, over 4.5 hours late, the pilot apologized for the delay, which was thoughtful of him. And we arrived in one piece, so that was good too."
Cons: "While waiting for the flight, I whined on FB about our probable delay, and a friend responded with "I'm guessing that you're crammed at the end of that terminal hallway with about 10 other gates of people with no airplanes, no information, and 2 AC employees." Spot on. Apparently such delays, understaffed gates, and failures to communicate with passengers are par for the course. Friend even predicted the free bagels AC would eventually offer at the restaurant that closed 3 hours before our flight finally left. He didn't predict the multiple announcements about assorted other flights not having functional restrooms so please pee before boarding."
Pros: "Pearson Airport puts the puddle jumper flights at the far, far, far end of the airport. That makes some sense."
Cons: "There's only one choice for refreshments, unless you count the cracker-amd-nuts machine. The seats are terrible. The assumption seems to be that no one waits long, but the experience proves the opposite, as wind, construction, security clearance for flight crews and who knows what else (any excuse will do) creates delays of more than an hour for people who end up standing along the walls and sitting on the floor waiting. Again, crews and ground staff for AC are not able to give accurate instructions or guidance for boarding flights. That airport is a mess."
Pros: "The flight attendants were very professional and accommodating."
Cons: "Our flight was delayed 2 1/2 hours at Narita and then again in Toronto for another 2 hours. Plus my family and I were tired from the 11 1/2 hour flight and when we get to check in the attendants were very rude, almost like it was a bother to them when we asked for help, it was probably because I interrupted their conversation. Every airports kiosks are different and that was our first time going through there so we just wanted to make sure that we did it right. Then when we get to the gate where we're suppose to leave out from, I asl the attendant there who I can talk to about forgotten bag on board. She then goes to tell me that I need to call the 800 #, Abd I said but I'm here at the airport can't they just bring it to this gate and she then got an attitude and said that they couldn't do that and I would just have to go to the lost and found which was downstairs. I was on the line with lost and found before I went to ask her any questions, and I mentioned to her that I had been on hold for 30 minutes, and she said they weren't going to answer. So I then asked hire am I suppose to get my bag then? She repeated about calling the 800 #, and at this time a lady runs up the counter thinking that she missed her flight. She shows the attendant her phone and is hysterical thinking that she missed her flight and the flight attendant told her just go sit down it's not here yet you didn't miss it. The customer then starts yelling in another language and the flight attendant just tells your just go sit down calm down and go sit down. She's doing all of this while I'm standing there she pulls out her phone and then told her co-worker I should put her on YouTube the way they do us. All the while I'm standing there because I still have more questions and she just ignored me like I wasn't even standing there. I more than likely will never fly this airline again, I'm paying for their services and to get treated like this, no thanks!!"
Pros: "I liked the clean cabin, decent service during meals and overall amenities offered. The plane itself was quite nice and more comfortable than most."
Cons: "The food seemed to be quite a small portion. The chicken entree was normal size, but lacking in taste. The side was also bland in flavor but a good mix of veggies. I would have enjoyed another small snack, such as cheese and crackers or some such. The movie list was fairly good with somewhat recent items. The TV list was lacking in choices, it seemed. However, that may be the content of modern TV. Access to the toilets were often hindered by staff, especially in the rear of the cabin. We were 45 minutes late. I was already booked on a flight 5+ hours later, which was nice. However, I was given a only a food voucher of 31CHF. The amount was wonderful, but they offered this at a time when I had already eaten on the plane and was not hungry at all. I could only buy a few things to eat or take with me, and the rest of the amount was wasted. Alternatives, could have been a partial refund, a visa gift card, an upgrade on my flight back, etc."
Cons: "Bumped off a direct flight from Toronto to Fort lauderdale with 6 other people. We all booked back in february. They are overbooking 5 to 10 percent now and kicking off the people who paid the least. There is no advantage to booking early only to be bumped. At the gate the AC employee said we would be credited 3 to 4 hundred dollars but we had to run to the customer service desk and then hop on an AC flight to Houston connecting with United Airlines to Fort Lauderdale. At the customer service desk a herd of people waited anxiously to be re booked and compensated. When they started handing out notice that they would send us 200 in the mail there was an uproar that fell on deaf ears. We then ran to get on the houston flight only to find out that flight was overbooked as well. We had to wait to see if they had any no shows. Fortunately I was able to stay on the plane. Upon arriving in Houston we were quickly ran to the United airline gate only to find out that Air Canada had dropped the ball again. We were not booked on the flight. Five of us had no seats booked , while I was booked to depart on a morning flight the next day with no accomodations arranged? Fortunately for us United Airlines picked up the ball and some how got us on the plane to Fort Lauderdale. Upon arriving around 1140pm! should have arrived at 5:20pm direct! we quickly ran to the AC terminal to get our luggage that was originally checked on the first flight. We were told that it would be there. AC employees with no concern at all told us it's not here and it would have been on the united flight that we just arrived on. After I explained that we werent even scheduled to be on the United flight by air canada, so there's no way it made it onto the plane. They looked at us like we were idiots, closed thier office doors and walked away. We ran back to the other terminal( shuttle buses stop at 11pm in Fort Lauderdale?) only to find no luggage again. Fortunately United picks up the ball again and traces our luggage back to Toronto, AC pulled it and left it sitting there. Because of Air Canada's inept employees I missed my rental car reservation and had to buy new clothes for the wedding the next day. They said they'd have the luggage to me by 11 am , it arrived at 11:30 pm the next day. Save yourself the hassel, fly any other airline other then the iconic continually bailed out by the federal goverment airline. If you know, no matter how bad your company and service is ,you will always be bailed out would you work hard? Probably not, hence the atrocious attitude and poor performance of this dead horse airline."
Cons: "Super noisy and we left 30 minutes late"
Cons: "Rouge legroom has gotten to the point of being dismal. The seats are thin and uncomfortable - don't even try reclining though, or you'll be in the face of the person behind you. I buy flight passes which are good on Air Canada as well but Air Canada has taken away all the non- Rouge flights and I am left with no choice. On a 5pm flight out of Toronto, all the hot food choices were gone by the time they were 8 rows into food and beverage service. I'm seriously thinking of moving my loyalty status to West Jet. If only they had flight passes."
Pros: "The flight was half empty so was able to have a role to myself"
Cons: "Air Canada Rouge should be renamed Air Canada Rude. Employees are very un-friendly; Seat design on the plane is the most uncomfortable of any airline out there. Very close to each other and very little padding on cushion of seat. Dirty plane; don’t think they serviced it between flights, garbage in each seat pouch. Very cold on flight, crew did not regulate the climate control. Too many unnecessary announcements both in English then French. Each announcement seemed like it lasted about 10 minutes which no one listen. So much for trying to watch a movie that pauses every time the crew feels the needs to talk. Sat at gate for 30 minutes pass departure time without any explanation until right before we departed (waiting on passengers from late arriving flights). At lease they could have told us. Anyhow this is not the Air Canada of old. Air Canada Rouge shows no signs that they care about the comfort of their passengers."
Pros: "I love that I had a direct flight for my destination, from TLV to Pearson Int'l, at a decent price. This is usually hard to come by. The in flight entertainment options are very good. The online check-in process worked very well."
Cons: "The service on my original TLV-Pearson Flight (Dec 23rd am) was not great. The staff sat in the back gossiping the entire time and looked offended every time I came to ask a question or ask for something - they would get silent and just sit there, like I was interrupting an important conversation and so I even offered to get my own stuff. Ridiculous! What happened to customer service? The food is HORRIBLE! Worst food I have ever had on a flight, and I flew to 8 countries this last year, so that says a lot. I'd recommend only eating food you bring, or just starving yourself."
Cons: "There was a build-up of delays for domestic flights, namely from Toronto to Edmonton, Ottawa and Calgary (the ones I heard). I was on the Toronto to Calgary flight, which was supposedly delayed from 16:45 till 18:55 EST, but the actual boarding time was closer to 19:45 EST. Once all the passengers were boarded, the crew informed us that the pilot was missing. Another 20 minutes went by before he was located, at which point we were informed that the first mate was missing as well. By the time the pilot and first mate were both on the aircraft, it took another 30 minutes for them to get the aircraft ready. My flight from Toronto to Calgary was supposed to arrive at 19:40 MDT, the actual arrival time was 23:00 MDT. As a passenger, I am annoyed to say the least."
Cons: "With an hour delay out of Paris due to waiting for missing aircraft flight documents to be completed and delivered to the airplane on the holding ramp, we ended up arriving in Toronto an hour late. With only an original connection time of 90 minutes, it was not possible for me to make it thru Canadian and US customs to the connection gate. I was to learn that no other connection to a Kansas City was available until much later in the afternoon / early evening. As a result, I ended up arriving in Kansas City 6 (six) hours later than originally scheduled, three quarters of the time it took to travel from Paris to Toronto. To say the least , I was not at all thrilled having lost that time."
Pros: "It got me home."
Cons: "One of the attendants yelled at anyone who needed to use the bathroom whenever the seatbelt sign was on. Understandable when the plane was actually experiencing turbulence but most of the time it was a smooth flight. Know there are regulations concerning this but I feel she could have been a bit nicer in her tone. Thankfully there was an empty seat just outside the toilet so that I could sit but anyone who arrived after me was told to return to their seat. When nature calls, sometimes it's impossible to walk very far."
Cons: "The crew waited so long to start selling food. Then, by the time the cart got to where I was sitting (only halfway back) they were already sold out of the two things I wanted to buy. The tea they served was the dregs from the bottom of the kettle, nasty and bitter. There was no "entertainment," except a crew member renting out a couple of ipads that connected to the wifi. The luggage compartments are oddly shaped so that you can only put your luggage in the long way. It a misuse of space. A lot of people had a hard time finding any place to put their bags. During takeoff, one of the luggage compartments opened up twice."
Pros: "The ONLY part of flying Air Canada that I used to like was your partnership with SAS, over the past ten years I have lost more airtravel points through Star Alliance troubles than I could have made in the decade before. Luckily when I fly from my birth place of St. John's NL, you're ground staff are the absolute best! I can give "shout outs" to each and every one of them. From those ready for retirement to the new staff just in from "who knows where", they get the whole "customer service" priority that your airline needs to focus on. Your management in Halifax "Sharon" is out of this world too, other than that whether through Lufthansa, Air Canada or anywhere I would travel, seeing that red leaf on your wing would make me ashamed to be Canadian."
Cons: "I paid extra for a seat to ensure leg room, all I got was ear ache! The flight - although half empty had no place for my briefcase, but I was "ordered" to push my sealskin bag under the dirty greasy seat in front of me. When I requested they store it upfront for take-off & landing - the french female steward started flirting with the man sitting next to me and didn't even offer a response. When drinks came around - I was handed a half empty glass with juice on it's exterior and borrowed a napkin from the next seat. Later I did get a napkin "thrown gently" over the person she enjoyed speaking with. I was happy to wait until connecting passengers disembarked before the local traffic, but was appalled when the more senior female steward stopped a local passenger who I know has anxiety about flying - to insist she let the other passengers off first. Air Canada needs to be educated on what human behaviour entails, before they can graduate to customer service. Together with my first name, you can know my last name is Floyd"
Cons: "The last leg of our entire trip, and it was late. We left about 1.5 hours late and they had trouble getting the gate to the plane when we landed. A long trip home was made even longer. I was very surprised that there were so many issues with timeliness on AC flights. In our outbound to Athens, two of the three flights left late, and they had to rebook part of our trip to accommodate. And the return trip was more of the same. I expected AC to be world-class and it was more like a regional airline in terms of performance."
Pros: "a lot of leg room, fast boarding, nice screen, cool window with adjustable darkness."
Cons: "all my food were not covered when hostess delivered the tray, salad was missing, apparently it fell into the trolley while she pulled the tray out. and then i couldn't eat it because it was frozen. food quality was just really bad; whenever the crew passed by they were speaking really loud like to the other side of the valley, probably not necessary; the seat itself has a fancy look but the cushion is not comfortable at all, couldn't really rest one's head on it as it would just keep sliding sidewards . another thing that the airline can't really help- baby crying & screaming all the time and playing toys with music, couldn't get any sleep at all... perhaps a "kids zone" like trains have would be good for planes.. ?"
Pros: "The crew was nice, accommodate well. Sit lean back okay, good convenience of charging mobile device. Food was okay. Entertainment good choices."
Cons: "Where do I start? Baggage check in is horrible and long. Wait in line for 1 hr with all counter open. Process just too long and too slow. Unclear of instruction for paying extra baggage. Security at gate taking too long to get through. Seat is too small, a larger person took almost 1/3 of my seat for the duration of flight and he wasn't that big. No noise control in aircraft, couldn't sleep at all (9hrs flight), kids and adult taking, playing like there home. The cabin smell very very unpleasant, due to body odor of passengers. Only 4 restroom for whole economy class, but 6 restrooms for 40 passengers of business class Due to the region of the air liner at, majority of passengers were rude, obnoxious, loud, and really really smell."
Pros: "The flight itself was fine, free WiFi on board, movies to watch, stewards and stewardesses on board were very kind and attentive."
Cons: "I was originally flying WestJet, and the 7:05 AM flight I booked was cancelled. I hopped online and booked the 8:10 AM flight via Air Canada back to Boston. First, the flight was oversold, so only AFTER I was able to check my bag did I learn that I was flying stand-by. Completely nerve wracking. If I had known in advance I would have booked with another airline. I was able to get on the flight thanks to some volunteers who gave up their seats on the 8:10 AM flight for the next flight out (10:10 AM) in return for some monetary compensation. I arrived in Boston, and after waiting for 45 minutes, I learned my bag was put on the 10:10 AM flight rather than the 10:10 AM flight, but only after dealing with a snappy and disrespectful check-in attendant that seemed to not believe me that my bags indeed did not arrive. The office for baggage services for Air Canada was vacant and locked next to the carousel. Myself and a couple of other travelers, upon getting to the check-in counter and explaining the situation mistakenly lumped us all together and said "okay so you're all traveling together and your bags need to go the same place". Me: "No, that's incorrect, we are not related or traveling together, we just all have the same issue--none of our bags have arrived". Other Air Canada representative, who up to this point had not been involved in the exchange: "She didn't ask you if you were related, she asked you if your bags were lost" and then proceeded to roll her eyes and walk away from the counter. I suppose she misinterpreted my concern for rudeness and felt the need to put me in my place. Granted, my early morning flight cancellation and the stress associated with flying standby had nothing to do with them, but the attitude I was given as a concerned traveler whose bag was potentially lost was completely unwarranted. Compounded with the frustration of the entire morning I cannot describe how infuriating this exchange added up to being. I was told my bag would be delivered to my home by 4 PM that day. No bag. Got a phone call at 7 PM - they'd be there in the next hour. 10:00 PM and going to bed: No bag. I gave up and prepared to make a claim in the morning. 8:30 AM Sunday morning - my bag is sitting on my front porch wrapped in a trash bag. What a fiasco."
Pros: "The sag wagon ride, all be it short as the major length of walk not available to assistance.la"
Cons: "Lay out design of terminal, nearly missed initial flight to Copenhagen from Toronto- due to no assistance to navigate through terminal, needed ride but only wheel chair available, but not in time to catch flight. Toronto to MKE- The 5 gate changes, and watching 2 previous flights 40 minutes late with multiple gate changes, plane with flat tire and gasoline leak, not confidence building. Plane very small, tightly seated in back row without ability to recline, directly across from bathroom in which the door kept flying open and a women emerged to state some issue with toilet."
Pros: "The gate crew was instrumental in helping us board our flight when the first leg was delayed and or connection time was only 30 minutes."
Cons: "Of all the international airlines I have flown, this was by far the least well equipped for a long haul flight. There was no entertainment (we had to download an app to your personal device beforehand, which we were not informed about until already onboard). There were iPads for rent, but not nearly enough for the number of passengers requesting. The dinner was a good size, but there were no additional snacks, only small sized drinks offered, and alcohol was not complimentary, and a smaller size than what's provided while in N America for the same price. Overall, I was quite unimpressed with Air Canada, and will avoid flying with them in the future, when possible."
Pros: "the plane crew were pleasant and kept us posted as to what was happening and causing us to be even later to leave."
Cons: "The staff on the ground were disorganized, uninformed, frazzled, dismissive and boarded us 1 hour late with no updates on why we were not boarding on time. Our flight was just sitting there on the ground. when people asked they blew us off. we were also crowded into the last, very narrow, terminal area in the Toronto airport (F89-F99 area). Too many flights departing at the same time, created limited space to sit/stand. One passenger pasted out, and had a seizure upon hitting the floor face first, because of the stuffed space, and lack of air movement and available seats. They did have a fan in the area but it didnt do much to circulate air. Once we boarded an hour late, the ground crew were nowhere to be found. We waited 30min on the plane for crew to board our luggage. We were told they left the area to work somewhere else, and would be back soon. Ugh! I would not fly Air Canada again, esp through Toronto again."
Cons: "I was supposed to be home on a Sunday. That I didn't arrive until the follow Tuesday should tell you something. My adventure included: 2 cancelled flights, one drastically oversold flight, being given a hotel room without a working toilet, hours spent waiting at the airport for information from gate agents who never showed up, and being curtly told that, as a passenger who didn't arrive on a connecting flight, on my second night I would not be given a hotel room, but instead a mat to sleep on in the airport. I did finally get a hotel room—this time with a working toilet"
Pros: "Size of plane allowing for aisle seating."
Cons: "Delay with boarding for about hour without a good explanation. All monitors in airport shows plane on time when it actually was not. Boarding process also took a bit of time perhaps due to many elderly on the flight. Seating was also confusing as the middle seats did not correspond with aisle seating. This caused delays as passengers had to figure out where they were sitting. Checked in luggage at gate since flight was full and we were asked to volunteer to check-in luggage. At baggage claim, bag delay to retrieve luggage after already hour delay in departure. Bags was not labeled or categorized correctly causing an extra half hour delay to claim bags."
Pros: "The crew was great"
Cons: "The gate changed 4 times and there was confusion at final boarding. The Toronto airport TSA agents have absolutely no manners and need to be retrained or fired. Traveling has become very stressful and try make it worse. There was a Hispanic girl, heavy set with curly hair yelling at us to approach the scanners. I talked to her asking her to be gentle with us because we'd just flown for 7 hours and are suffering from time zone changes. Another yelled at my seatmate about his travel size after shave. She was a black Caribbean. She snapped at me about the importance of security and that he was rude for saying he didn't care that she'd throw his stuff away. I told her that he said he didn't care because he's tired and quite frankly, a trail sized aftershave that she doesn't approve actually doesn't matter and is nothing for her to get worked up about. Her colleagues were all staring at her as she started throwing her weight around and making unprofessional nonverbal noises. Then there the room where you weight for your name on the screen to appear if your number is 1 or 2. The people in there are extremely gruff. There was only one Hispanic woman who took my slip of paper that had my pic who said please and thank you. Then when you go to customs to get your passport signed, the guy at counter 10 starts arguing with me for no reason. I put 1 family member on the customs form. He asked if anyone is traveling with me. I said no. He clarified that one should mean an additional person and not just me traveling. I said it wasn't clear and I didn't know. But he decided to get argumentative with me about it until I said ok and walked away. Your TSA process is a nightmare. I did not experience that at Heathrow, Vienna, Or Tel Aviv (all places that have recently experienced terrorism). I didn't even experience it in my arrival town Denver. Toronto TSA is very very poor."
Cons: "Air Canada Oversold my flight, the process of reaching my destination was incredibly painful and uncertain. For example -at one point an Air Canada service representative provided me with a ticket for my original flight with a seat assignment however when I tried to board the aircraft the gate agent confiscated the ticket and then destroyed it advising that I was not supposed to get a seat. Air Canada gate agents and check in staff were visibly struggling with the computer booking/reservation system at multiple points throughout this process. For example - at one point my bag was checked on a flight that I was not on and the gate agent openly expressed disbelief and concern that it was happening outside their control... very concerning."
Pros: "Other than the rude employee in Vancouver's ticket and baggage counter, I'd fly Air Canada all the time if I could. SO much better than any of the other commercial airlines."
Cons: "We had a 10 hour layover in Vancouver, which would have been fine except that we had to get our luggage and recheck it the following morning. This left us outside of security, unable to go anywhere to rest. No one expects to be comfortable when you spend the night in the airport, but this was worse. No where to sleep, no decent chairs to rest in. We weren't sure why, since our connecting flight to Seoul South Korea was also Air Canada, our luggage had to be picked up at baggage claim, held on until the following morning, then rechecked. The clerks at the Air Canada ticket and baggage counter were supposed to be opened at 9, but an incredibly rude employee snapped at me that he didn't have time to talk to me, that I'd just need to wait until 9:30 when they opened."
Cons: "AC373 on 07/23/16 - need I say more? Having an airline background and now the HR mgr of a very large hotel chain, I understand many things that are out of a companies control, ie: weather etc, but....never have I witnessed airline staff YELLING at passengers "it's not our fault and the agents need to leave so they don't go into overtime?" Yes, some passengers were difficult, but it's part of the industry. If you can't handle w/care and service - don't choose as a profession. Very unimpressed with AC's customer service, guest recovery - they made it seem like it was more of an inconvenience for them. Can't imagine "choosing" to fly AC again!"
Cons: "This was an absolutely terrible flying experience. Our flight from Toronto to Vancouver was delayed by almost 5 hours, which meant I missed my connection to Victoria. Almost no information was given about what to expect about our onward travel connections in Vancouver (most people had connections). I was told that not only would AC book me on an alternate flight, but there would be an agent to meet us with information about baggage, hotel stays, etc. There was no such agent. An agent was only available for folks connecting long-haul to Sydney, Australia, but for no other destinations. I tried to call the airline directly to get information, and kept being told "you will have to speak to someone at the airport". No information was given about where my bags where, whether they would be at the airport or about my connecting flight. I was also told that if I chose to stay in a hotel I would need to pay out of pocket and then seek reimbursement. Unwilling to take the risk of not getting reimbursed, I, like many of my fellow travellers, chose to suck it up and sleep on the floor at the airport. They also failed to tell me that I would need a brand new boarding pass, so after waiting 30m to get through security, I then was sent back to wait another 30m to "check in" yet again and get another boarding pass. This was absolutely one of the worst flying experiences I've had recently, and it utterly frustrates me that AC has a near-monopoly on Canadian air travel. I live in Victoria and will likely go back to what I did in the past, which was take sea travel to Seattle and fly from there just to avoid Air Canada."
Pros: "Nothing to like about this airline. Horrible people especially in toronto, really unhelpful, extremely rude."
Cons: "Air line decided they didn't want me to take my connecting flight. Removed my luggage without consulting with me. Offered me a disgusting hotel. Forced me to pay out of pocket for food, taxis, transfers and my own hotel choice. Staff were so rude. No explanation to why they removed my bags. I made it in plenty of time for my connecting flight but airline had just decided. No staff member was interested in answering my questions or helping. They all just wanted to sod off home. they just didn't care."
Pros: "Staff was professional and courteous. The staff was helpful but were too busy dealing with the full plane load of passengers."
Cons: "Crowded middle seat that was uncomfortable to sit in. Sat next to severely overweight person, who needed two seas to be comfortable. I was squished. The seat belt was tangled up and I could not fix it to adjust it. Bell to call flight attendant was not working. The middle light bulb was burnt out. Took my book to read on this long flight but could not read. just sat in the dark when the lights went out. Boarding the plane seemed like planned chaos! No one (passengers) listened to instructions and these were poor given by those responsible to oversee the boarding the plane. Fight was delayed for half an hour with people coming on at such late time. Had to change seats to accommodate others - family with children. Dealing with disembarkation should be better and much too long. Those with connecting flights should leave first and can be identified earlier to prevent cheating. Those with children should be next. Those in the aisle seats then leave, followed by those in the middle and window seats. Loading the plane after the business class or first class should be according to seat number from the back of the plane to the front. this completely random boarding boarding clogs up the aisle with passengers and luggage. I thought in an emergency this plane would not be efficiently evacuated. You can call me Seelochan Beharry 604-261-6690"
Pros: "Boarding is the best!"
Cons: "I do understand mechanical issues occur, but your communication of these issues was awful! My god, you cannot tell if your electronics are working before you board people. One thing I can say for America, they do not mess around.....they fix problems....your team sucked leaving Toronto Barcelona two weeks ago and then you suck leaving Toronto to SFO. Please understand, folks have flight connections and the number one thing then need from you, instead of water is information on whether their flight will be waiting for them!!!"
Pros: "Great crew."
Cons: "The system at the Toronto Pearson airport is loco--crazy design, have to move from one line to the other, no idea where to go. The system is so disorganized that you have to keep asking employees what to do and it seems to change as you go from one line to the other. It's not hard to design good lineups. Have good sineage in many places and have one line for one purpose, not many lines in different places for the same purpose that change with the whims of the staff. I'll be attempting to fly with other airlines next time as this airport system is just too much."
Cons: "The wait for security into the terminal in Toronto was absolutely ridiculous. And then I realized they only had 2 doors out of the 5 open???? For over an hour and a half? I could have missed my flight had I not found someone who let me get in line with them. 20 people DID miss the flight. Absolutely ridiculous. When we asked security if we could be expedited they said we had to take it up with Air Canada. So here I am taking it up with you. And then when we finally DID get to Montreal, we were taken to the international terminal. How does that happen??? This delayed me even more, causing me and the entire plane to wait while they figured out what to do with us. Because of these mistakes and delays, I missed the final bus that would have taken me to my final destination. I had to spend 175 dollars on a hotel because I was stranded. I am a student. This is no small fee to pay. I would like to demand that I get at least that amount in reimbursement for this HUGE mistake."
Pros: "Nothing. The experience was a headache."
Cons: "Layover that was booked through KAYAK was already 9 hours long. I was fine and willing to accept that for the lower cost. Flight then gets delayed from 8:00 to 9:00 PM, okay, that's fine. Then flight gets delayed from 9:00 to 12:00. This forces me to miss my hotel reservation in LAX, This was one of the worst flying experiences I've ever dealt with. Then the airline doesn't even have the decency to give me a pillow because I was sitting in coach. If this is what airlines are becoming, i can't wait for the hyperloop one to force them into bankruptcy. The lack of respect for their paying customers is asinine."
Pros: "The flight crew were nice and friendly, though they weren't very on top of trash pickup, but they were chipper and that's always better than grumpy crew that are super-efficient. Also, our luggage made it with us despite a tight connection."
Cons: "53 minute hold time to call center (before my call was even answered) to order vegetarian meals for flight (the day before flight) -wish that could be done online, vegetarian meal request not transferred to new flight after we missed our initial flight due to first flight delay, lights not working properly for half of flight (sleeping child under spotlight), the pasta dish, collecting garbage in my seat throughout flight (particularly after meal service), cramped seating, lack of entertainment, and they are now charging for alcoholic beverages on international flights. I'm not a big drinker, but I still enjoyed that perk."
Pros: "3 1/2 hours late cramped stuffy with a very strong chemical disinfectant odor that was gagging passengers . Cabin was too hot and poorly ventilated. Only flight landing in Pittsburgh late Tuesday night and we were still forced to walk him from the very end of the concourse . Once we got to the landside terminal we had to walk past all the unused baggage claim area to the very end carousel. Pittsburgh airport management should be ashamed of themselves . No wonder there tax finance Taj Mahal is a ghost town !"
