Onboard wifi and improved interiors would be appreciated for economy passengers.
The check in was efficient and courteous. There was a delay but not the airline's fault. My seat - paid extra for it - in the Y Class of economy - had no working entertainment system. The meal table was broken. After a half hearted attempt to fix the entertainment system, I was told SORRY...these are old aircraft, what to do....well for one thing, slash the prices. I paid almost $3500 for an economy ticket and that;s the service I got.

Pros: "Flight from chicago to delhi and the international conn to kochi was all excellent and seamless. I highly recommend flying air india if you find a last min good deal because then most seats are empty so you can stretch out and sleep."

Cons: "I fly a LOT, and this was one of the very worst flight experiences I’ve ever had. The flight was delayed and the staff (on the ground and in the air) were rude and unhelpful. As a result I missed my connecting flights to Nairobi and on to Lusaka. Air India staff couldn’t be bothered to offer even the most basic support in trying to make the flight or helping to reschedule. I had to spend almost five extremely stressful hours running back and forth in the Mumbai airport to get Air India to issue a basic form letter stating their flight was delayed in order to get my next flight rebooked, and was yelled at by their abysmal customer service staff. As a result I’m out hundreds of dollars in missed flights and extra hotel rooms and arrived 24 hours late (!) to my final destination. I will think long and hard before EVER booking an Air India flight again."

Cons: "Very few entertainment choices. (though this isn't particularly common these days): no way to make inflight phone calls. No Wi-Fi. Flight was delayed due to the airline's incompetence. Flight attendents were very unusually rude. Airline FORGOT THE CUSTOMS FORMS, forcing us to wait for them to be retrieved from the airport upon landing. Further, we were then not allowed to disembark the aircraft until they were filled out despite being at the gate. Worst of all, nearly half the suitcases didn't make it to our destination. Half the passengers then had to fill out forms to make a claim. Even worse, this process alone took an unreasonably long amount of time. General logistical nightmare. Very poorly executed operation."
Pros: "On time, comfortable, good leg room in economy class and decent service you can expect. This was a Dreamliner service from Dubai to Kochi. Can't comment about onboard service as I was comfortably sleeping during both trips and chose to skip it. On my previous trip from Kochi to Dubai last month, the flight reached Dubai 40 mins ahead of the schedule. I would highly recommend this service over Emirates flight to Kochi."

Cons: "I arrived 2 hrs before floght departure. They first issued me a boarding pass; then there computers got stuck for a while. The guy at the counter couldn't get me a luggage label; then announced the flight was overbooked, took back my boarding pass and then tore it up. Told me my seat had been assigned at another counte to a family. He sent me over to another counter where no one told me anything for gala an hour. Finally they told me I had no option but to take the next flight at 500am. They put me up in a trashy transit hotel, made me wait outside in the heat for another half hour for the transport to the hotel. Will never fly Air India again if I can help it. Everywhere you see a lot of air India officials but only on in ten appears to know his job. Very unprofessional, incompetent, customer unfriendly. What a pathetic airline. Btw the frigid provided is a meager vegetarian buffet at a restaurant which is a few blocks away from the transit hotel."
Cons: "NEVER EVER CHOSE THIS AIRLINE. How such an airline is still the national carrier of India amuses me. My entertainment system was not working. There were no headphones and when asked they just kept ignoring me. The remote was broken in 2 pieces and when asked the attendant replied "Am i supposed to fix this?". I was forced to travel for 15 long hours from Chicago to New Delhi without any entertainment system. I barely saw any flight attendants in the economy class. Such airlines without any professionalism should be grounded ASAP. I would request Kayak also to remove Air India from their services or give a warning when any user opts for it. The Govt. of India should strip of the national carrier symbol of this huge debt ridden business. Its a shame that a route like US - India wherein the middle east airlines are reaping profits due to their brilliant services, the citizens of India have to look for other options rather than their own national carrier. SHAME ON YOU AIR INDIA."
