The car was not fully charged on pick up and we had to stop to charge and as a result a2.5 hour journey took us 5.5hours. My heavily pregnant wife was very stressed. There were no charger points available nor working when we stopped to charge. We then made it with 8miles left on the battery to the next charging station. We picked up my daughter 2hours late and that created further problems for the family looking after my daughter. They missed their connection to Ireland. The 155miles return journey to Gatwick we only just made again with less than 20miles left on the battery. We were assured the car would travel 255miles on a full charge. But it didnt ! All in all we had an awful experience and a very stressful journey, concerned all the way for my heavily pregnant wife. The girl at budget/Avis desk was Polish and her english language was very poor. I do need a car again Monday 4th for 1day hire again from Gatwick to take my daughter back to school and will use your search engine, but would be extremely concerned if we ended up with a hire from Budget again.Reviewed 29 Oct 2024

The shuttle van from the airport was fast and convenient. The representatives at the desk were friendly and efficient. There was no line like I have seen at other airports. The return process was fine (except the first representative failed to print us a receipt and we got no email either so had to go back). The car itself, however, left a lot to be desired. It was much smaller than the “typical” model they advertised and though it said “or similar” we didn’t feel it WAS similar. The interior had clearly not been cleaned and was missing a floor mat entirely on the drivers side. It had not been washed, at least not recently. As such, the wipers were so dirty that on the drive home, in a downpour, they honestly were a hazard — we could see next to nothing of the road due to the smears. When we tried to call the desk to let them know of these issues, no one answered… for three days. And when we emailed and requested a response, we got none then either. So communication was a huge problem too. In the end, we cleaned it ourselves and luckily the wipers didn’t need replacing, just a good scrub. But we were extremely frustrated.Reviewed 23 Aug 2024

Most of the experience was excellent but felt like the original pick up experience was too pushy in trying to upsell us to spend money on things we didn't need. They know we've just landed from a long flight and are experiencing jet lag and it feels like they are trying to take advantage of you in that moment.
