Your best option is a plain economy car, as they fit into all parking lots, can cruise through the city without taking up too much space, and are less likely to get stolen compared to a luxury BMW or Mercedes. In Mexico, car theft or damage is still fairly common, so also make sure to get insurance with your rental car. Good traction is also something you want to have in your rental car, as road conditions can be challenging in some parts.

Otherwise, there are public parking lots like the free Playa Caracol, the Estacionamiento, or Playa las Perlas. Pros:Car was good
Cons:Pick up and drop off was very slow, line was long. At drop off they made you wait in the same line to return the car as the people waiting in line to pick up the car. Car return took 30 minutes. Also Kayak did not make Car insurance policies clear, and staff at Alamo were very aggressive at pushing their Insurance options. Their arguments with customers about insurance was one of the things slowing down the pickup/drop off line.
Pros:Nothing. They did not have a car even though we booked one. We had to change our entire travel plans because of that. Horrible.
Cons:Uhm, maybe having a car available when you've booked one?
Pros:Even though we had a reservation, there were no cars available when we arrived. We had to rent from another vendor for a much higher price.
Cons:Honoring a reservation would have been the right thing to do.
Cons:They charged an unexpected $24/day for insurance on top of the daily fee. Robbery. Went with a better local company instead
Pros:no van was not there staff was not helpful at all had to pay 70 dollars for cab
Pros:Diana at the counter was FANTASTIC!! Great English and made me feel welcome and comfortable!

8.0 Very good
Pros:The staff was friendly and very helpful.
Cons:The car radio was broken, and the car was rather low end/ poor quality. It was difficult to pass because the car took a lot of time to accelerate.
Pros:The staff was friendly.
Cons:The car was terrible. It was completely beat up with significant dents on every panel. The right side mirror did not work. The battery connection was loose and the car didn’t start on multiple occasions. The tires had a slow leak. The car price as quoted should include the mandatory cost of insurance for non Mexicans and not just say it’s extra.
Cons:You can not try to change the price when I pick up the car and added additional unwanted add ons that were not a choice. Forced insurance etc
Cons:Staff. Car. Service.

Pros:Drop off was super easy and streamlined
Cons:Europcar in Cancun refused to accept my CDW, collusion damage waiver. Even though i had all the correct paperwork and even called the company who handled the coverage. Apparently even though it states they will accept CDW, they will not and they will give you a huge runaround as to why which isn't true, but when you are there, you basically have no choice but to accept whatever they charge for the extra coverage. My rental was $94, they charged an additional $250. This should just be charged up front to avoid all the hassle
Cons:The price was total bate and switch charged me a lot extra even though I had proof my insurance and credit cards covered me in Mexico. We will never use them again.
Pros:Quick transfer to the office
Cons:They tried to rip me off by adding the unnecessary package, being very confused about what they try to charge with and forced me to cancel the booking. Very, very bad experience!
Pros:Drop off was easy.
Cons:I ended up paying $260 including insurance. Your website lies.
Pros:Poor experience enough that I will never consider using Europcar again and reconsider Kayak as well.
Cons:The staff lied to me immediately upon entering-which took a half hour. They told me that they had no contract with our insurance companies, American Express and State Farm , and as I result the company policy was that I had to buy full insurance. They also stated that the price quoted on the internet did not bind them as Kayak was only an agent. I have lived in Mexico for years and know that he was in fact lying to me. Ultimately we 'negotiated' a price that was twice what we were promised. I ended up with 3 insurances covering the vehicle and almost wished something happened to it. The gas tank was only a quarter full- I've never seen that.
8.0 Very good
Pros:Staff service was great. Rental and dropoff was easy.
Cons:Cars are a little worn out and need some cleaning.
Pros:The staff was amazing. It was very easy to pick up and drop off
Cons:I was quoted 22 dollars a day. I ended up paying more than double that. I didn’t even pay for the insurance and I still payed more than double. It would be nice if the quote told you about fees instead of misleading you to think you’re getting a great deal.
Cons:Our flight was delayed and they cancelled our reservation. Agent at the counter offered an alternative with another company (something nded like something under the table) for five times the cost of my original reservation. In the end we were left without a car.
Pros:Even though I reluctantly paid for the extra insurance despite having coverage through the credit card, the whole experience was easy and pleasant and I can't really complain. Everyone we dealt with was exceptional.
Pros:Easy shuttle to the car rental. Good car
Cons:You are forced into hidden fees. The rental price does not include mandatory insurance. Expect to pay 4x what you book. Checking the car back in was also a little bit of a mess.
Pros:Price looked good online
Cons:We arrived early in the morning only to find they were new car seats. What do you do in a foreign country with a two and four-year-old without a car seat? This place sucks.
