Cons:This company is a complete money grab. They try to charge you for everything, insurance, insurance transfer fee, overcharging your total even by $10 for no reason AND they ran out of vehicles so there was nothing for us. The office was slammed at 10pm and everyone in there was just disgusted with all the weird contracts, policies, and fees they throw on you. I feel bad for these employees.Reviewed 18 Jul. 2020

Absolute scamPros:NothingCons:Do not use this car rental service, it is the epitome of extra fee scamming. Your online booking is non-refundable, so when you show up and your rental isn't what is seems, you have the choice to eat the money and book something else last minute, or go along with their extra charges and hope to salvage something decent out of your trip. First off, the car they tried to offer me was not the one I booked on Kayak, a tiny "economy" sized sedan when I booked the larger "standard" class. After disputing the fact, they "benevolently" upgraded me to the proper car. After that, it turned out that local residents are only allowed 800kms, which is not stated in the booking policy at all, so we had to pay an extra 20 cents per kilometre, upon which they added 13% HST and an 18% "airport fee" which is completely illegal. I was planning on using my Gold Card VISA insurance, but of course they insisted that I needed to pay an extra 11.50 per day (+31% tax) for their comprehensive insurance plan, and since they had my non-refundable deposit, I had little choice but to go along. Also, they company booked on Kayak is called Economy Rent A Car, while the incredibly confusing "receipt" I received from them is made out under the name Jet Car Rental, also highly illegal. I will be looking to take formal action against them, and I hope Kayak drops them from their website.Reviewed 24 Jul. 2018

Pros:Only thing they got right was have the right vehicle for me. (They didn’t have a single available vehicle my second reservation and I booked it over 2 weeks in advanced)Cons:Pickup was horrible. The company is a complete joke. Everyone in the lobby was laughing at how ridiculous some of the fees and excuses. Check your gas, check every single scratch and dent because they will find a way to over charge you. Have your own insurance? It’ll cost just to transfer it. The vehicle we rented was dirty to begin with and had a broken seat so when going to move the item we rented it for, we could not move it. They wouldn’t give a discount or anything after we specially rented a van to move an item in another city. Will not rent from here again.Reviewed 27 Jul. 2020

Pros:The drop off to the airport was good.Cons:The car was filthy. I inspected multiple cars and all of them were really unclean. I had no choice to take the better of the ones available. They refused to give me an upgrade and told me about the car insurance transfer fee and limited mileage after I paid everything which was very unprofessional.Reviewed 15 Dec. 2020

DO NOT RENT FROM ECONOMY RENT A CAR!Cons:I booked my rental car through Kayak, which doesn't prominently display ratings for companies. I didn't need anything special, just whatever cheap car would get me around for my trip. Economy Rent A Car was the top option, so I chose them. Their lot was not on airport property, a few minutes away with free shuttle from the airport. Worked for me. After we landed and got our bags we were directed to the area where Economy is set to pick up/drop off. We go there and are told to use a phone on the wall to call for the shuttle. There is a woman on the phone that hangs up as we are walking up, frustrated, and saying "are you kidding me? This isn't happening." As she's leaving I look at the phone, locate the number for Economy on the board, and call them. Ring... Ring... Ring... "We're sorry, but the person you are trying to reach has a voicemail box that is not set up yet." The woman comes back and we ask her which company she was trying to reach: Economy Rent A Car. ...Okay, let's try again. And again. And again. And again. While I'm calling my wife looks up the number online, and it's the correct number. That's when we see the 1.7 star reviews from nearly 1000 people. Reading through the reviews, most people had the same problems we did. And some of those that were lucky enough to get the shuttle or find transportation to the Economy Rent A Car lot said that when they got there they were told that they were late for their reservation and that there was no vehicle for them. DO NOT USE ECONOMY RENT A CAR. KAYAK SHOULD BE ASHAMED THAT THEY EVEN DO BUSINESS WITH THAT COMPANY.Reviewed 17 Sep. 2018

Stick with on-airport car rentalsPros:The price seemed almost too good to be true, and almost was.Cons:Firstly getting there was an adventure in itself. A train then call for the shuttle. Real pain in the bum. But don’t call them from your cell, this was apparently why I waited almost 40 min, they said you have to use the airport phone. I talked right to the guy at the counter who said the shuttle was in its way. Finally making it to the rental company, the guy at the counter tried to add an add’l $12/day stating this coverage was for what my platinum Amex wouldn’t cover. Never heard is this before. They wanted proof that my car insurance covered the rental. Who takes their insurance slip on vacay with them? I went online to get my policy number then got them on the phone.. they confirmed my coverage with the counter guy. When he got off the phone with them he was not very happy that he failed to collect the up charge from me. From now on I’ll stick with in terminal companies thank you.Reviewed 19 Dec. 2017

Bad Customer ServicePros:To be honest , I really don’t like this place and their customer service. See below:Cons:The guy at the counter forced me to buy insurance from them, even though I bought full coverage insurance the time I rented the car. So I end up buying insurance from them too, because he was refusing to give me the car. On the time of return they were not sure about the miles at the time I took the car. At one time they told me that I drove 2500 km during my use. But I only put $33 gas in it. As compared to other companies like Herts or Avis , this place is nothing. Plus this place is far from the Airport, at the time I was booking my car, I didn’t know about this. Overall I will never rent a car from this place.Reviewed 30 Jul. 2018

A Bit GrottyPros:The we car rented worked very, well and was very comfortable. It was also less expensive than other car rental agencies. Also, they didn't try to up-sell me to a larger vehicle, which I appreciate (I find up-selling extremely tiresome).Cons:When I was comparing companies to rent from, I chose Economy Rent a Car based on price, and the fact the website said their desk was in the airport terminal. When I completed the reservation, the instructions on the confirmation email said to call Economy's shuttle bus upon arrival. Hmm. When we arrived in Toronto and called the shuttle, the number provided was for a different rental company. Hmm. It turns out Economy's shuttle bus just goes "every 15 or 20 minutes". They don't want you to call for the shuttle. Hmm. When we got to the rental office, there wasn't a smile in the place. It's pretty dingy. When we checked out the car, it wasn't exactly dirty, but it wasn't as clean as one expects when renting a vehicle. Hmm. When we pulled out from the parking lot, I was thinking we may not have made a good choice to rent from Economy. However, I have to say the car was fine, and we got it for a good price.Reviewed 19 Oct. 2018

Don’t do this!Pros:The late model car was new and comfortable. Also, Ali, the airport shuttle driver, went out of his way to be polite and helpful.Cons:Where do I start?!? This experience ranks slightly below the time when I received a cockroach-infested vehicle in the tropics. We arrived close to two hours later than planned, only to have to take a shuttle to the pickup point for Economy’s shuttle. Waited another half hour plus after calling for shuttle. When we arrived, the car was not ready. Being “cleaned up” for us, we were told. After half hour wait, car comes around and we loaded our luggage into the car. It was at that point that I noticed the piles of trash (literally) in the rear of the car. There was trash in the cabin. Not minor, but days worth of fast food wrappers, drink containers, etc tossed over the back seat, obviously having been occupied by a family with multiple children. We took our luggage back inside for another half hour wait. When we finally received the car, we walked the outside and were told to bring the car back at the same tank level (3/4 full) to avoid charges. As we pulled away, I noticed the tank was closer to half full than what they had written down. Car itself was nice, but the next day I noticed that the company had not just held a spot on my credit card for several hundred dollars, but had actually charged the card that amount. When I pointed out the fuel discrepancy, the charged amount (still on my card) and the fiasco at pickup, the “manager” working the desk could not have cared less and was rude and defiant. NEVER again, if it can be avoided.Reviewed 26 Jan. 2018

Never Ever Ever Use EconomyPros:I'll start with the good things; there were a few. The car was great, no problem. When we dropped it off again, the fellow in the office came out to meet us, and since we had just missed the shuttle back to the airport, offered to drive us there himself. That was awesome, so kudos to him.Cons:Here we go: By the way, it wasn't about finding the cheapest place. We had to book the night before because the whole trip was last-minute for a funeral. This place was on the website and had a vehicle. -"Important information OFF-AIRPORT CAR RENTAL SHUTTLE PROVIDED" For some reason they don't go into any detail about how to get to that shuttle. I called the local number, which thankfully I had written down from the website when I booked (it wasn't on the confirmation email at all). It rang and rang and I finally got a message: "The customer you are trying to call isn't available and hasn't set up their voice mail" Next I called the 800 number, got connected to a call centre somewhere, and was told he would connect me to the Toronto facility. After many more rings I spoke with a man I could barely understand, who was giving me one word answers. Mumbled something about taking a link train ..... somewhere.... and hung up. Called the info line at the airport. I was finally told that I had to take a tram to a location out by the parking garage where I THEN had to call the rental place back to be picked up. 83-year old mom in tow, we finally got there. The driver was fine, no problem with him; he just did his job. When we arrived at the rental place (dirty, nasty) there was a man sitting behind the counter who insisted on taking a $500 deposit even though I had purchased the full insurance package online. I recognized his voice from the previous phone call and without getting into details, he was completely apathetic and unapologetic. We're originally from Toronto so coping with getting around to locations isn't a big deal. But if you aren't familiar with the airport I can't imagine what you'd go through. Went out to the car. Car was fine. EXCEPT one of the back windows and the driver's rear view mirror was covered in ice. I asked the guy to clean it. After staring at me blankly, he went and retrieved an ice scraper and threw it onto the back seat. Still with me? After a long day of travel this was exactly what I needed. I let him know that when I rent a car, I expect it to be ready for me to drive. He very grudgingly scraped off the ice and then went to get the manager. (Aforementioned guy behind counter). Who said, "It isn't our responsibility to clean snow and ice off your car. That's up to you to do." Seriously???? Oh and he also said, "If you're so unhappy why did you book with us?" Wow. I don't think we were asking for a lot. Just a bit of customer service to let us know that our business was valued. It isn't that difficult, is it? My $500 still hasn't been refunded, nor have I received the confirmation email I was promised "within 15 min" telling me that I had returned the car without issue. I realize with Visa it can take a couple of days, but I will be watching my account very closely.Reviewed 19 Jan. 2019
