Clean Elegance and very rustic gets the true eccentricity for New York The AC didn't really work need an update or worked on to get room at right temperature
Location is great! room wifi signal too weak to get connected. Call operator 3 times and went to lobby twice. Reboot phone, other tricks. Not working. Staff show no patient. Told me to try another day... Room is not clean at all. Did not want to stay here in the future. Be aware! The hotel is going to charge you addition 20 dollar for wifi and facility. It is mandatory, although their wifi may not work!
The hotel was conveniently located next to the subway for ease of travel. It was walking distance to Times Square. The rooms were clean and the bathrooms were recently remodeled. They need sound proofing between walls. We could hear conversations in the next room and they weren't even yelling.
Location, rooms are comfy , free internet My mother's shoes were stolen, Along with my nephew's (2 and 1/2 yo) pillow and toys. The shoes were inside a suitcase the entire time which makes the case even worse. We complained at the front desk, but the staff were unapologetic and did nothing to solve the issue.
Mo the bartender and Grace at the front desk went above and beyond to make my stay pleasant.
When I first got to hotel to check in I was informed that the room I reserved was not available and that I never booked the king room. But this not true I had my confirmation number and the reservation saved on my phone. So she put me in a queen room and charge me 461.00 but the deal I reserved was for only 261.00. So when I check out I was told that 200.00 would go back in my bank but it still hasn't. So I will never book through kayak again. I was robbed 200 dollars and was giving wrong room.
It has a great feature during weekdays where their stylish bar has an open bar hour for hotel guests. Directly across Bryant Park and close to many boutique coffee shops and Fifth Avenue are all pluses. Expedia got my name wrong on the reservation...which doesn't make sense as I typed it in correctly online so the check in was me trying to explain that I did have a reservation.
the location is great because I love Bryant Park. Old hotel, but redone kind of modernish. They should have left it old. We had a tiny room that looked out on ugly air conditioners from the other building. I had always dreamed of staying there but was very disappointed .
The staff were wonderful. Our room was quite nice and more spacious than we expected. Apparently the room had just completed renovation and was approved for occupancy the day before we checked in. The rooftop bar is very attractive, with a fabulous view of the Empire State Building. The renovations that are in progress are a real nuisance. The restaurant and the fitness center are closed for renovations. During the day, and sometimes in the evening, only one of the two elevators is available for guest use. That was very frustrating. More than once we took the stairs, both from and to our 8th floor room, because of the miserable wait for the elevator to arrive.
The location is not bad--on 37th st between 5th and 6th. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The wifi was good. They had free coffee in the morning. I can not recommend this hotel. There are so many issues. The room was unbelievably tiny with no space for a table, i.e. no place to make or drinnk coffee. The only way to use a computer is to put it on your lap and sit on the bed. There is construction going on everywhere, with noise and dust, and one of the two elevators is out of use for hotel guests. I had a room in the back. It was quiet but had a depressing view of rundown buildings and garbage.
Great hotel. Friendly staff. Great location. I gave this hotel an "okay" because of what seemed to be chaos in the kitchen. I would order an item, the friendly person on the other end would say ok. But...wait for it...each time I ordered and confirmed my food items, I received a call back telling me they are out of at least one of what I'd ordered.
The restaurant was nice, good food The room was never properly cleaned. I stayed for 6 nights and the room was never fully cleaned. The bathroom mirrors had the same smears the entire stay, the floor was dusty and hairy and I saw the same piles of dirt from day one. The glass shower wall had a soap scum that remained the entire time as did the bathtub. The entire room was dusty and never saw any of it cleaned. And I'm quite certain my sheets weren't even changed daily. I believe the cleaning crew only changed towels and made the bed. I also asked that they did not leave the a/c on 65 each day and i continued to return to an ice box daily!
My son was graduating with a professional degree. Family from the Midwest were coming to NYC for the investiture. I made a reservation for 3 rooms (first mistake!). When I contacted The Avalon to change into the individual rooms, I was told to contact the online site where I made the reservation. The online site was absolutely no help! They refused to render any assistance, as they already their money. Contacted The Avalon who worked things out. They were a pleasure to work with. Rooms weren't ready when checking in, but all 3 parties arrived before 11 AM, so not unanticipated.
They were incredibly understaffed for the week after Christmas. It took an hour and a half to check in and 2 hours to get our car at checkout. Would never stay here again
Great location, confortable beds, spacious, very clean, nice staff, easy check in and check out. The air conditioner was extremely loud, the hotel provided earplugs but if they could fix this issue It could have been the perfect stay.
Too much money for such a mediocre room. It supposed to be a non-smoking room but in reality it smelled to weed. Very disappointing experience especially having the kids there. I reserved two rooms and arrived at 4:00, there was only one room available and we had to wait for the other one almost 3 hours.
They provided a complimentary happy hour and breakfast. The bed was comfortable. The shower was amazing. Would definitely stay here again. Construction in the lobby, which I couldn't hear but it was slightly unsightly and cramped as things were walled off and the reception desk was pushed back. But honestly that was it.
Perfect location. Close to all the attractions and the stations. Staff at the front desk were rude. All you get is an one word answer from the receptionist. Complimentary WiFi was not working at all. They did not have an answer when asked about it. Rooms were very small. Will never choose this hotel again
Staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Rooms were clean and the complimentary breakfast was good. There was no mini fridge in the room, but other than that everything was good.
Convenient. Elevator broken. I was there LAST week was broken then. One of two broken, it took FOREVER to get in and out of the rooms. They should give a discount until it is fixed.
