Top tips for finding cheap flights to Australia

  • Enter your preferred departure airport and travel dates into the search form above to unlock the latest Australia flight deals.
  • To visit the Western parts of Australia, consider booking a flight to Perth Airport (PER). PER is considered the western gateway to Australia. The airport gives you easier access to Success, the southern suburb of Perth. Success is about 25 km from PER.
  • If arriving from a late-night flight from Canada to Australia at Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD), you should consider spending your night in the onsite Mantra Hotel Sydney Airport. At the hotel, you will be staying about 0.8 km from Terminal 2 and about 0.9 km from Terminal 3.
  • If you intend to rent a car from car rentals in Australia, please note that SYD has a few onsite car rentals that will offer a car that will suit your preferences, the total number of users, the purpose of the car, and your budget. The onsite car rental counters can be accessed at each terminal and arrival level. Avis, Budget, and Enterprise are among the onsite car rental agencies at SYD.
  • If you are bringing children with you to Australia, you must be aware that it is illegal for a baby or child under the age of seven years old to travel in a car without a child restraint. For this reason, you will need to bring a car seat on your flight to Australia or rent one upon arrival.
  • To visit the north of Australia, book a flight to Darwin International Airport (DRW) which services the Norther Territory and gives you access to several islands in the Beagle Gulf.
  • The centre of Darwin is only 11.4 km from the airport, or you could opt to catch a 2h 30min flight to Cairns International Airport (CNS) in neighbouring Queensland.
  • If you want to visit the east of Australia, there are a couple airports for you to choose from. Brisbane Airport (SNE) and Gold Coast Airport both service the southeast of Queensland and are ideal if you would like to be close to the beach. Further down the coast, Sydney Airport (SYD) services New South Wales and is under a 3h drive away from the capital city of Canberra in the Australian Capital Territory.
  • Before you get on your flight to Australia, you will need to apply for a visa in order to enter the country. If you are a Canadian passport holder, you will need to apply for a visa online, rather than a paper visa. This will allow you to visit Australia multiple times over a 12-month period, throughout which you will be able to stay for up to three months during each visit. The service fee for applying for an online visa is around 22 AUD (20 CAD).

Gate agent was fantastic in Auckland. They wanted to charge me for my two bags even though I was gold member with United in Tonga. So I had to pay for an upgrade. The meals on both flights had no vegetarian option. The only one item the salad was not tasty at all. Good thing I had brought my own snacks. The bread was white roll which is so not healthy. I think New Zealand air can definitely improve their food offering.

The entire process was excellent! The economy sits are a bit snug so I'll have to be sure to purchase premier or business class next time but, other than that, food, service, attendants were exceptional. Gate agents and ticket agents too!

Can you please process refund. Mum died and dad went to Pakistan to bury her after cancelling flight.

All was good, the only thing was it didn't run on time.

Great meal. Best seats ever! They need to teach other airlines how to do that.

Food was not good. We asked for Muslim food and it was weird tasteless type of boiled veges.

Couldn’t request a vegan meal somehow but I noticed other people getting them

They announced food service but then never came around. We also couldn’t land so kept trying to get to runway and then had to come up and go around happened like 3 times and cause the child next to me to start throwing up

Good food and entertainment options. Great Staff that were all welcoming and caregiving.

There was a snafu with confirming seats at check which left us in limbo for the second leg of our trip. I believe the ANZ app is not well integrated with the systems at the terminal resulting in this disconcerting error.

Business class Seats on the A350 from Nan to YVR were wonderful. The flight crew was okay but could do with better training. Toilets were clean but ran out of paper towels towards the end of the flight. The food/menu and the wine offered really needs considerable improvement. Dinner options were either Bolani, a beef sandwich (even this could be made much better), or paneer butter masala. Unfortunately, if you are not a fan of Fijian food, there isn’t much choice. Dessert was either turmeric ice cream or fruits but unfortunately, they were out of fruit! So the only option was turmeric ice cream. I’m not certain how many passengers like turmeric but I am not one of them. They need to cater to a more diverse group of people. Perhaps they need a new chef? The movies& tv shows were mostly older so I didn’t find that interesting either. It was however, fun to view the plane’s exterior cameras as we take off and land. The best thing about this flight are the business class seats.

Comfortable as one can get in Economy, food was very good, staff were super friendly & efficient.

Really liked the plane and business class seat. Food was ok but could be better. Service was very good.

Better connections, much better cabin crew, much cleaner cabin that Qantas, American and probably other carriers.

Fiji left without me because American Airlines was too stupid to get to LAX on time. Fiji should have offered a standby on another flight but they told me tough luck. I will never fly with this company again.

The A350 aircraft business class experience was very good. Comfortable and well appointed pod, and supplemental bed pad available for sleeping. Food was very good.

Business class seats and amenities were excellent, crew very attentive. Slept well. Food good, lounge experience nice. Would fly them again. A350 aircraft excellent, very quiet.

The flight attendants were extremely friendly and helpful. Everything ran on time. I highly recommend Fiji Airways.

The experience was lovely in every respect. The crews were delightful.

The flight was delayed over 2 hours. We had to wait on the plane and the air conditioning was turned off. The food was average and the cutlery was wooden!

Perfect. The flight was on time and the crew were very friendly and helpful.

Plane a little late departing, but not an issue. The pilots humour when he said “I will try to make up some time…. I know a few short cuts to Adelaide” made the passengers chuckle. This is what makes Qantas “Australian”.

I have never had a problem with flying Qantas, so this flight was the same as any other.

After British Airways cancelled my London to Sydney and Virgin Australia refused to refund, there was no ways I would try Virgin Australia again, so it was Qantas - what a good flight experience. So much easier to get off an international flight and get a local flight without having to add extra amounts for baggage

The plane was delayed about 3 hours so anything else is immaterial

It was so hot on the plane mixed with being quite turbulent and a rough landing. We all felt very nauseous for hours afterwards. Crew were lovely though.

For a long haul, the flight was good. We left an hour late due to a seat in business class not working. But they made up time and we still got in on time or even early thanks to tailwinds. The crew was friendly. The meals were okay, nothing special.

No internet on international flights in this dsy and age is bad.

Good. BUT the Kayak app kept sending me wrong messages saying that there was a Gate change. That same thing is happening today.

Everything got delayed we were supposed to land at 1pm and landes at 8-9 pm … was horrible

Calgary desperately needs a star alliance lounge in the transborder area for United.

Brutal as can be … delayed by 24 hours then delayed and hour on the tarmac then delayed three hours in Chicago, screaming child behind me kicking the seat for the better part of 10 hours… couldn’t be worse

My flight was delayed for a whole day, so I lost a day of my vacation.

My flight was delayed by a whole day, so I lost a day of my vacation.

Staff did not care, and very clearly did not want to be serving passengers. Requests were ignored repeatedly. Toilets filthy. Bins were just trash bags hung around the place that were never emptied. It was a challenge to even get a glass of water on a 14 hour flight.

The check-in and passport submission was complicated and repetitive, due to the poor communication between Air Canada and United. There should have been a single set of instructions and a single questionnaire that provided the data for both airlines.

-The cabin was ice cold - When we arrived in Houston there was no gate available -We had to wait 90 minutes for our luggage to arrive.. In the future I will avoid flying with Air Canada at at costs

How would you rate my experience when I was stuck in YOW without being offered a cup of water by the airline?

Marked by flight delays on all segments of the trip. Food in first class cabin was mediocre and overhead cabin storage was not adequate. Overall, the premium charge for first class cabin was poor and over hyped. This will be our last flight with UA.

Flight was delayed and still they didn't manage to transfer my bag to the flight. The onboard staff was quick to show desperation and frustration with the not-so-easy passengers.

Do not book a flight thru Toronto Pearson to the US with less than 2 hrs between connecting flights. With 90 minutes (which I had) if your first plane is 25-30 minutes late by the time you debark, walk to go through security again, go through US customs and find your new gate with at least 15 minutes before your departure. If you stop to go the the bathroom you will be lucky to catch your flight, in my case I wasn’t lucky. The airline should not offer flights that do not allow you time to get to your second plane, bad customer service!

It was swiss air flight and they were very helpful and kind

My flight was delayed in Calgary and I missed my connecting flight to Cincinnati. I was rebooked on a flight the following day. I did not receive a food or lodging voucher.

I didn't actually get to take this flight. It was canceled and the automated system rerouted my party of four (including a minor and a person in a wheelchair) to three different airports. Since we had a three hour drive from Newark this was clearly unacceptable. For all of us to end up in Newark would have required waiting at least one day, probably longer.

Constant delays worked out in our favor but definitely extended our travel day

Flight was excellent in all aspects, - comfort , food, drinks, service, entertainment. Inspite of the computer glitch, the flight was on schedule and flawlessly. Thank you, air Canada.

There was no entertainment on board and wi-fi did not work for me. Food consisted of beverage and pretzels. Flight was over 2 hours delayed due to unscheduled maintenance. We missed our Toronto connection. Air Canada rebooked us for the next day. We had purchased premium seats but our rebooked flight was nearly full and we did not sit together. Seats were way in the back of the plane. Air Canada did provide us with a hotel stay. Agent upon deplaning told us luggage would be sent through to our final destination. Customer service person told us our luggage would be at the carousel. It never showed up, so we lost an hour waiting for it, already well past my bedtime by now. My husband has limited mobility. Baggage agent advised us the luggage did, indeed, get placed somewhere for our next day flight and provided us with an overnight kit (shaving kit, oral hygiene kit, sleep shirt, etc.) and it was very much appreciated and needed. Husband has mobility issues and we found that wheelchair assistance is not provided during layover stops, which made it difficult (and slow) for us to get from gate to customer service to baggage claim to hotel shuttle. We were given food vouchers but were too exhausted to use them before going to hotel. For the most part, all agents we dealt with were respectful and pleasant, although only a few were as warm, friendly and helpful as most of the Canadians we had interacted with during our visit.

We paid $110 for more leg room. My traveling companion’s knees were right up against the seat in front. Where was more leg room. We feel ripped off. Food,,,there wasn’t any not even a bag of pretzels. As a result, there was very little service.
