From booking to airport arrival, find tips to help you plan your flight with more confidence.
  • For the best chance at a low fare to Istanbul, aim to book around 23 weeks before you fly. That window historically saves about 17% versus last-minute pricing based on KAYAK booking data over the last 12 months.
  • For flights to Istanbul, recent KAYAK data shows that stronger deals tend to land around C$ 1,086 round-trip. If you see a fare below that threshold, it's a strong deal – book before the price climbs back up.
  • If you can choose when to go, aim to travel to Istanbul in February. Round-trip fares historically average C$ 1,151 that month – typically the cheapest month to travel based on the last 12 months.
  • Before you book:

    • Check the route's typical price range so you can spot a deal.
    • Confirm baggage fees and seat selection costs on budget carriers.
    • Verify whether you need any travel documents beyond an ID.
    • Pick a departure airport, since your nearest may not be the cheapest origin.
  • Shift your departure to evening to save up to C$ 338 per round-trip. Evening flights to Istanbul average C$ 1,264 compared to C$ 1,602 for noon flights. See the time-of-day chart above for the full breakdown.

  • Istanbul Airport (IST) is the primary hub for a few different airlines, including Onur Air and Turkish Airlines, so these companies will frequently operate flights that arrive here. On one of the flights, the situation became sufficiently frustrating that a passenger openly expressed their dissatisfaction. Despite these complaints, we did not observe any meaningful improvement or receive an adequate explanation. The fact that members of our group experienced similar conditions on two separate aircraft is particularly concerning. We recognize that cabin temperatures may vary during a flight; however, the prolonged discomfort and the apparent lack of an effective response significantly affected our travel experience. Passengers reasonably expect a long-haul international flight to provide a tolerable cabin environment. When multiple passengers raise concerns about their comfort or well-being, those concerns should be acknowledged and addressed professionally.

Flight was really good, with no middle section on an A321neo for an international flight, from Ottawa directly to London. Staff was friendly. The food was okay, and entertainment amenities could be better.

The flight was terrible based off the temperature in the plane and the air smelled so stale and gross. I have never wanted to hosed lore in my life after I got off. The food was disgusting and seemingly low quality. The staff was friendly. The bathrooms were so gross after a couple of hours. I will definitely never book with them again.

The crew was great. There was no entertainment and the internet wasn't working. We sat in the run way for a LONG time which is always so upsetting. The seats are very close together and the flights are completely full which makes for a tough flight. Flying is just an uncomfortable experience.

Very kind crew. Vegetarian food better than usual. Prompt take off. Entertainment worked well. Could always do with more room!

I liked the reliability. I liked less the chair comfort...

The dinner was bland and boring, but the economy seats were surprisingly comfortable. The flight was very packed.

I didn't have any problems during my flight. My main issue is with airlines in general, they keep offering less and less every year, AirTransat is no different.

We are a senior couple (70+) and chose emergency exit seats so we would have 2 seats together and neither of us had to sit in a middle seat. My husband is type 1 diabetic on an insulin pump and I monitor his blood sugar levels. I am 5'9" and 250 lbs and found the seats extremely uncomfortable. Toward the end of the flight I developed diarrhea which lasted a full 24 hours.

We were treated well by the staff at the airport and on board aircraft. Delay was uncontrollable due to the weather. Had to wait for another gate as we were late landing in Fort Lauderdale.

DO NOT book with Kayak or a third party travel agent like Underpricers. You will regret it.

I have flown over 2million miles. Great flight but bizarre boarding process. They must have paged half the passengers to the desk for documentation check before boarding anyone. Overall great value.

The seats are very narrow. Communication regarding bids for better seating could be better

Very poor. Seats like economy class, food unbeatable, no charging, no entertainment, no WiFi, boarding by bus - no justification for calling and pricing this as business class

The flight itself was pleasant and on time. Crew was very good. However, breakfast food was barely acceptable. Unfortunately this satisfies the recent industry standards. I asked for a sandwich with ham (another choice was cheese), but received a sandwich with roast beef.

Agents helping disable person doesnt know connections to Poland and after 9 agents helping and 2hours ,we made it to proper terminal. Polish Dreamliner its Polish nightmare liner with so narrow seats and no room under front seat for bag and feet,in economy class. To upgrade, to higher standart cost an arm and leg ,even there are empty seats No good experience overall

Bags lost no more to say, bad communication and no urgency to get it back to the hotel by the airline properly the worst airline I have used.

Seats were so uncomfortable, my butt hurts so much, I wish they have more cushions,it really was horrible, Except that, Stewarts were polite food was decent

Boarding was impossible to navigate. Had mobility issues and a business class ticket, but still boarded almost at the end of the queue because there was absolutely no organization or assistance.

Lost my suitcase. And communication was poor. No offers of compensation for over 24 hour delay of bag

Turkish Airlines made a long flight from YVR to IST a great flying experience. From the attendants, to the food, to the entertainment program to all the extras, a twelve hour flight ‘flew by’. Late departure and arrival was not the airline’s fault.

The flight attendants were great! The seating for business class is better on other airlines. The food was also good!

Great food, great entertainment and very helpful, caring & attentive staff.

Food is getting worse. They use to be different than other airlines. Their economy classes food sucks. Stuff was very helpful.

Horrible, they forgot our luggage, the food was terrible, the crew were rude, the flight was delayed, I hated every aspect of this flight

The flight was delayed so connection was missed. In Istanbul we were taken to a hotel and no one in the hotel knew so we had to wait hours in the lobby of the hotel while the airline and hotel coordinated. The airline staff is rude at times

The checking line was very long , when checked the bags and got the boarding pass but moved fairly fast . The boarding line was long and the ground crew didn’t provide priority to kids boarding . But the air crew on the plane were very nice and polite . Too bad my daughter’s table try was broken which made the trip less enjoyable.

Food could have been hotter. More padding needed in economy seats

Was not able to check in online, so had to stand in line for 90 minutes to get a boarding pass, and I had no luggage to check. Why not let people check in in advance on line? Or at a kiosk at the airport?

seat didn't fold children noise in the air plain. no foot space

As always, Air Canada flight was delayed for almost more than an hour, which made my time of my flight 15 hours which was absolutely unacceptable.

Everything was excellent except the breakfast was cheap yogurt and cake ????

The flight departed more than an hour later than expected. The flight itself was good. No other problems.

Plane was late. Too many announcements during the flight. Made me pay that deposit. Uncomfortable seats.

It was pretty good. The transatlantic flights can be tough on any airline, but this was a decent experience. The only thing I disliked was the airline crew moved my carry on bag without telling me or explaining anything. If I was sleeping during that part, I would’ve assumed it was stolen.

Exorbitantly overpriced ticket. Flight was delayed as per usual with air Canada and there was zero refund or compensation.

Flight delay due to staff shortage. No snack or drinks served. Toilets had water collecting on the floor.

The help at check-in area was excellent! The crew on board was great and the legroom and entertainment is excellent!

Flight was delayed due to crew/co-pilot change over delay and Pearson scheduling issue. Flight didn't leave until 20:05 which was 15 minutes before it was supposed to land in YYZ.

Greetings to all the employees, they were very kind and welcoming. Excellent pilot, thank you for your efforts

I didn't like the food, and it wasn't as good as all other business class that I'm using

I'm flying several times per month in business class. You had the worst food by far from any company I have ever flew with. The Spanish wine was great. I purchased Internet, but it didn't work well for most of the flight.

All good, professional service, and arrived close to on time.

This was a special trip so we booked first class. It was obviously an old plane as the seats weren't that comfortable or spacious. We were delayed 45mins taking off as the "little engine that starts the big engines doesn't work". The powered divider between myself and the next seat in first class didn't work and my electrically powdered seat didn't work so I had to move seats to try and get some sleep. Food and drink were good, crew were great. But I'll never fly with BA again.

Business class to Istanbul. Packed flight. Cabin crew seemed incapable of differentiating between economy and business passengers with regard to access to the WC which meant whole flight I had people standing in aisle and leaning into my aisle seat, queueing for the front WC. Crew put it down to a lack of curtain between the two classes. The seats, for a 3hrs55 min flight were just standard seats with middle seat unoccupied. So nothing special apart from the food, which was mediocre. Aside from the roast chicken dinner (‘special’ traditional British menu option, which looked poor but tasted good I gather). However 2 king prawns does not make a main course salad.

Terrible. Missed my flight to final destination because of delayed British Airways flight. Had to spend 12 hours in airport and $1500 for new plane tickets

I asked for a wheelchair. I have a back health condition. I had to walk a lot

Boarding = No one respected the boarding groups. The ground crew did nothing to enforce the boarding system. What is the point of being a Gold member when there are no benefits to that? Tired old plane

The flight and the staff was excellent. Only bad thing is no entertainment and you have to pay for anything other than water.

Flight departed 45 mins late Crew great Food items missing from breakfast
