Insights shared by verified travellers who flew from John F Kennedy Intl to anywhere
Verified travelerFlew with American Airlines-Jun 2026
JFK was a convenient airport to fly out of if you arrive for an early flight. Download all your media ahead of time. don't buy the internet in-flight if you don't have to.
NicoleFlew with Delta-Jun 2026
Terminal has great options for food. Lots of seating and charging stations. If checking luggage and already paid online just drop them at the curbside and continue to the check point.
SarahFlew with Delta-Jun 2026
Delta had a very organized boarding process which I appreciated. The construction on the way to JFK meant my Uber had to detour through some residential areas which was annoying. I would have used the subway and AirTrain if I hadn't been traveling with my cat.
Verified travelerFlew with Alaska Airlines-Jun 2026
Expect to leave for JFK 3 hrs prior to flight if traveling by car from Upper West Side. You will want to arrive 1.5 H prior to departure
JeanieFlew with Alaska Airlines-Jun 2026
Bring your own food and entertainment. The buy-on-board program may require advance ordering, and it can be expensive. Also, the on-board wifi may not work.
Verified travelerFlew with SWISS-Jun 2026
Check the recline of your seat and the seat in front of you to make sure you don’t get crushed/crush anyone.

Arrive timely at the NY airport. Be courteous and patient. Understand the temp difference and dress in layers so you can be comfortable once you arrive.

Be self sufficient and carry some dry nuts and fruits on hand for such last minute disruptions especially one is diabetic or have other dependencies.
Verified travelerFlew with United Airlines-May 2026
Make sure you have at least 2-3 hours of layover if you have a connecting flight. Avoid JFK terminal 1 as it is always chaotic.
Verified travelerFlew with Aer Lingus-Apr 2026
Make sure to double and triple check that the flight you book actually exists before going to the airport.
Verified travelerFlew with ANA-Apr 2026

Verified travelerFlew with LATAM Airlines-Mar 2026
Be accurate with your luggage's size and weight
OlgaFlew with JetBlue-May 2026
Here’s the part that confused me the most. JetBlue flies only from terminal 5. Delta (at least) arrives in terminal 4. Be aware that there is a lot of walking to get out of terminal 4, then you board the sky train, then you walk more, and finally get to terminal 5. There, surprise! You have to go through security again. At JFK, some security lines are ridiculously long and slow. It’s very annoying that transit passengers must go through that again when moving between terminals. One more thing related to terminal 5 where JetBlue flies - there is absolutely nowhere to sit and almost nothing to eat before going through security. The security lines were better organized though and it didn’t take that long.
KathleenFlew with Alaska Airlines-Feb 2026
allow plenty of time to get to the airport and through security. Take the plane train if you can. Terminal eight has good food options
BeverlyFlew with JetBlue-Dec 2025
Wear support socks which helps when you sit for a long time.
EllenFlew with Hawaiian Airlines-Dec 2025
Check your flights a few weeks before your trip and keep checking to see if times have changed, and if you need to adjust your layovers. Our flight went from 10am to 8:30am. We could have missed it.
Cecilia LeiteFlew with LATAM Airlines-Jan 2026
Make sure you are skymiles member , in order to enjoy WIfi during the flight.
WeiFlew with JetBlue-Feb 2026
Get to JFK early due to construction and route changes.
PawanFlew with Lufthansa-Jan 2026
Food- be specific if you dont want to eat Meat. And the vegetarian choices are really bad. Pack exact 23 KG/ 50 LB or else you have to pay
Verified travelerFlew with British Airways-Nov 2025
Sit at the back near the toilets and the food service, you’ll get served quicker lol x
StephanieFlew with Avianca-Nov 2025
Make sure your carry on and personal item fit the dimensions provided on the avianca website otherwise you will be charge to check a bag. They check before you board!

Patients , especially in the airport. RFK airport is crazy busy ! For the flight , get up during the flight to stretch.
LuisFlew with Delta-Mar 2025
It’s a long flight, come prepared to either watch movies, read or sleep.
HowardFlew with Alaska Airlines-May 2025
Must have a tablet to watch videos. Bring a seat cushion.
Verified travelerFlew with Delta-Mar 2025
Wear something warm on the plane they keep it cool
DavidFlew with JetBlue-Jan 2025
JetBlue leaves from JFK which can be a plus or minus depending on your plans in New York. Arrive early and check out the TWA hotel—with a great public lounge, bar, and food court in the restored 1960’s Eero Saarinen-designed building outside of terminal 5. The AirTran accepts OMNY tap to pay with your phone or credit card, take it to Jamaica station to transfer to the LIRR to go to Penn Station in Manhattan or check the MTA TrainTime app for schedules and tickets for other destinations.
DavidFlew with Singapore Airlines-Feb 2025
Bring a mattress pad with you if you plan on sleeping in business class.
Verified travelerFlew with American Airlines-Jan 2025
Be there on time it really need two hours for security checkups
KishoreFlew with ITA Airways-Dec 2024
Be prepared for confusion. The Delta boarding pass you get is actually not usable at JFK. You have to go to the ITA desk and get a paper ticket. Again something Delta doesn’t tell you. Poorly managed partnership
KymberleeFlew with Delta-Oct 2024
Just make sure you get to the airport early because you never know with traffic or what situations may happen. I always fly Delta so I can’t speak on other airlines. TSA pre check is always a plus in my book.
Verified travelerFlew with Qantas Airways-Nov 2024
there was an instance where a non speaking couple didnt know when to board. people cut in front of them and the crew didnt respond. it would be nice if there were translators available to assist when needed. i get that you want people on board as quickly as possible. sometimes, it's like herding cats. but do assist the people who dont understand the language.
MichaelFlew with American Airlines-Oct 2024
Book a month or more in advance to avoid paying more than going to South America. Don’t expect your checked bag quickly. They’ve been doing construction for literally years.
JulieFlew with Alaska Airlines-Oct 2024
Leave early. JFK can be messy. I couldn’t find healthy food choices so eat before you arrive.
Verified travelerFlew with Qantas Airways-Oct 2024
Bring plenty of books podcasts and music to read or listen to cause it’s a long flight
PartinFlew with Austrian Airlines-Nov 2024
Make sure to leave plenty of room for layovers
Verified travelerFlew with Emirates-Nov 2024
Pack snacks in case they’re only given dinner
CarolynFlew with Delta-Oct 2024
Get there early! I have TSA and CLEAR and security still took forever.
MichaelFlew with Delta-Oct 2024
Get to the airport early. Queues in JFK are terrible
Verified travelerFlew with Japan Airlines-Aug 2024
Make sure if you have any type of food allergies you let them know ahead of time instead of during your flight. The airline will do their best to accommodate your allergies and they take them very seriously. Economy wasn’t to bad on the way there I would recommend sitting in and exit row if you’re looking for leg room and it also helps to be close to the bathrooms.
RolandoFlew with British Airways-Jun 2024
Purchase one of the memory foam pillows you will not regret it. They provide one for you but it’s fairly small. Try to keep your personal item small so that you have as much room as possible for your legs.
Maria AlejandraFlew with Frontier-Aug 2024
Buy some food and beverage for that 4 hours trip. And download some movies in Netflix
Verified travelerFlew with Iberia-Jul 2024
Spend the money to get Global Entry that’s it
Verified travelerFlew with Avianca-Jul 2024
Get early to the airport, it make things easy
jacquelineFlew with ITA Airways-Aug 2024
bring comfy clothes and a good neck pillow
Verified travelerFlew with Turkish Airlines-Aug 2024
Look for business class separate line, it’s a little farther than the regular check in line. You may miss if not paying attention
RobertFlew with American Airlines-Jul 2024
Take later flight in evening so passengers more tir e and sleeping. Get your own food before flight.
Verified travelerFlew with Iberia-Jul 2024
Book directly from airline, at least will have direct communication
DerrickFlew with JetBlue-Aug 2024
Lots of construction around JFK airport, leave early.
BarbFlew with Delta-Jun 2024
I booked into JFK due to cost. However, I wouldn’t do it again due to all the construction in the area and the incredibly long B concourse for Delta. We were at the very last gate.
PaulFlew with British Airways-Apr 2024
Bring your own wired headphones and two pin 3.5mm adapter if you want a decent sound experience from the in flight entertainment. If you're vegetarian, there will be an option in flight - no need to order through your booking before the trip.
Verified travelerFlew with Alaska Airlines-Mar 2024
Bring an iPad with lots of shows downloaded. The terminal at jfk is nice and small, easy to go thru security. Palm Springs airport is amazing. You step out and feel like you’re on vacation.
LionelFlew with American Airlines-Apr 2024
To buy food in advance and put in in the bags to account for plane delays. I also recommend to activate plane information updates on the phone.
FreddyFlew with JetBlue-May 2024
Get to JFK with plenty of time. Be ready for the all crazyness NYC offers 🤗
AmranulFlew with Delta-Apr 2024
If you have a child who is under two years old or older, make sure they have seat right next to you otherwise they will make you sit far from them
Verified travelerFlew with Kenya Airways-May 2024
Again, be at the gate early enough for a comfortable check in. Also must get a Kenya Airways boarding pass since other boarding passes are not recognized.
MichaelFlew with American Airlines-Apr 2024
Book a month in advance or you’ll be paying rates that could get you to a foreign country.
TommyFlew with American Airlines-May 2024
Eat and use the rest room before flight and try not to leave your seat at all.
Verified travelerFlew with Alaska Airlines-May 2024
The airport food was limited and expensive. Best to bring a sandwich from outside…
VaitsaFlew with British Airways-Apr 2024
Be early and pay attention to gate changes.
Verified travelerFlew with Hawaiian Airlines-Mar 2024
Bring your own food for snacks because it’s crazy expensive at the airport and the airline doesn’t give that much food for such a long flight.
RichardFlew with JetBlue-May 2024
Don’t make the mistake I made and pay for a second checked bag. They will check your carry-on for free at the gate.
Verified travelerFlew with Delta-Apr 2024
Don’t sit next to the bathroom. It wreaks!
MichaelFlew with Iberia-Jan 2024
Make sure your toiletries are travel size. Check in for your flight extra early, and dress warmly, because Paris can be brutally cold in the winter.
leaniepenneFlew with British Airways-Jan 2024
Dress appropriate for the season and be comfortable, arrive early for checking in case there are unexpected changes or delays.
CorinneFlew with SWISS-Dec 2023
Note that you have to pay extra for checked luggage on certain economy flights. Be at the airport 3 hours prior, security check can take time.
GabrielaFlew with Avianca-Feb 2024
Everything is self-handled. Machines register your bags and they must weigh what they are supposed to so you will not have ti pay extra
Verified travelerFlew with Cathay Pacific-Feb 2024
Long journey wear comfortable clothes they only served two meals so take some food especially if you have diabetes
JustinFlew with Norse Atlantic UK-Feb 2024
Travel in relaxed clothes. Don’t over-eat. Avoid caffeine and alcohol.
JeffreyFlew with Delta-Jan 2024
Leave a lot of time to get to your gate.
NicholasFlew with JetBlue-Feb 2024
Don’t forget to bring your headphones for the tv.
DavidFlew with JetBlue-Feb 2024
Bring own entertainment and backup batteries for devices
LaurenFlew with JetBlue-Dec 2023
Be very careful that you don’t misplace anything. If you have to go through TSA multiple times, be sure to retrieve ALL your things even if it means you have to hold up the line unfortunately. Otherwise, there will be zero help to retrieve your things afterwards even though there are so many cameras.
Verified travelerFlew with British Airways-Jan 2024
Check all flights, arrive at the airport alot earlier if you have your flights cancelled and then rebooted with another line, they didn't book us on and took neatly 3 hours to sort out, others arrived at the normal time and missed their flights
ZachFlew with Korean Air-Dec 2023
BRING YOUR OWN WATER! They don't serve much for a long flight and I kept having to ask the cabin crew for more.
JayFlew with LATAM Airlines-Jan 2024
Don’t stay in the middle row. No AC Vents. The air was just stand still. An 8 hour fight felt like 20 hours

Doubled charged me for luggage and lost $520, dug much into my travel budget.

Very disappointed to not have lounge access The shorter flight seats were uncomfortable

The flight from Abu Dabhi to Bangalore was terrible. The plane was an order model with no onboard entertainment. The beverage selection were very limited.

It was worst flight ever of 26h. Poor service and seating. Flight from Abu Dhabi to Islamabad service and seating was worst ever. No tv extra.

It was OK as the seat which we paid for doesn’t have any window. We paid $120 for 3 seats but it’s for nothing. Crew could not help. None of the ports worked so all our phones went dry

Boarding catastrophic let alone have to claimb the plain rather than using jetway. 5.5 hr delay leaving had to do stop in Lgw for a new crew which further compounded the delay. Connecting flight would not wait and had to pend a night in a hotel. Curiously my seat would not go full flat.

Long way to improve. Toilets not working. Bad handling when flight was canceled

Entertainment did not work from flight from Abu Dhabi to Kolkata. Emirates has a much better flight in that sector.

Crew did not cooperate… I just asked water twice for one crew member and she didn’t get anything.. and when I asked other crew member he gave me water and he was not respectful.. I kept Hindu non veg meal chicken .. when I get my turn chicken was not provided and then they gave me veg paneer and green peas curry which I don’t like..

Sits are very uncomfortable and food quality should be improved. Alcohol you have to ask and wait for more then 1/2 hrs. Don’t feel like to travel in Etihad. It was 1st time we traveled in Etihad now we decided we don’t want to travel in Etihad.

Staff is rude and condescending. Airline is badly managed. They take away their flimsy earphones and blankets one hour before the lading. I’ve never experienced this with any other airline. It’s a very portly managed and run airline that should be avoided.

Amazing business class in a single aisle plane. Fully flat seats, pyjamas, amenity kits, all in all a really complete product. Service was good - not amazing - but they did a good job. Got a few hours sleep. Will fly with them again if I can.

Everything about our return trip from Colombo to Manchester was excellent. Staff were brilliant all flights. Return flights on time and all staff were brilliant. The outbound journey however was marred by cancellation of Man to Bahrain flight. No information or staff assistance. Customer Service none existent. Told to make own arrangements by none interested or understanding telephone staff who said to make own hotel arrangements and be reimbursed. CS refused to reimburse hotel or lost lounge booking or taxi fees.

Very poor experience, passengers and were not social and started a troubled with other passengers and a fight erupted

From the start of the check-in process, the associate was unprofessional and claimed that my ticket was incorrect, attributing the issue to Gulf Air. However, they failed to provide any clear explanation of what was wrong. After an extended wait of 45 minutes, the issue was resolved, and we were finally issued our boarding passes. Upon arrival in Paris, we faced further delays as the stairs to deplane were not functioning, resulting in an additional 45-minute wait onboard. This delay posed a significant risk of missing my connecting flight.

I like it very much. Gulf Air is always the topper rank of the world. I love it very much.

This itineray had to be cancelled as the connection time in Paris was only 55 min which is below the 90 min required by Paris airport. Nether Chat deal/Kayak, nor Gulf air nor American Air picked on that. I called American Air for unrelated question was then told that boarding would be denied due to the short connection time. This should have been an automatic notification from Chat deal/ Kayak or Gulf air and itinery cancelled. What is the point of inconveniencing the passenger?? The return has still not be refunded. Shame on Gulf Air, very poor customer service for an airline that has so good flight crew!

The flight was a transit and I had my boarding pass from the departure. I have talked to the check in person to set me up close to my family seats and ended up with my wife in one seat, 3 years old son in different seat and myself on different seat. very disappointing and overwhelming.

all good. crew wasnt attentive to the announcements they were making about the flight. made several mistakes at several tines while announcing destination, arrival time. first officer made this mistake too.

New aircraft, new and modern. Crew could be a little more smiling.

The plane was filthy and worn - the seat pockets were stuffed with tattered food and torn pamphlets. The cleaning crew that came on as we were deboarding were grabbing handfulls of trash and perfunctorily wiping down tables with dishrags. It's been a while since I flew Jetblue and it used to be a great experience. After this flight I will avoid flying Jetblue again if there is any alternative.

JFK is the worst airport and JetBlue is the worst airline

Very poor help no one answering a question regarding seating. Very rude staff. They don’t care, as if it’s not part of their job. Flight was delayed for no good reason and no apologies given.

A more comfortable seat. Padding would be really helpful but I've read the airlines don't want customers to be satisfied with economy seats.

When I booked, I included my checked luggage and when the bill was sent there was no record of this. Its was costly since I am from Trinidad amd Tobago. Exchange rate over seven dollars to one US dollar.

Everything was good except checking bags . I had paid for two bags but it didn’t show so we had to do it again while people waited and we were struggling to get to our flight

Plane was delayed multiple times. I would like to request a refund. Was due to arrive Thursday evening ended up arriving Friday morning.

The crew and the pilots. The pilots were amazing. The landing in Cancun was excellent.

The security line at JFK was one of the longest I’ve ever experienced - probably 45 minutes. I don’t know if JetBlue has control over it, but it detracted from the overall experience. Entertainment had good options, but the volume control was a bit small to tap on and the screen had a fair amount of interference blips. Clearer picture would have been better.

I liked the entertainment on JetBlue, the service from JFK to JAX was terrible at best

I do not have any issue after travelling but not able to return back to Newyork because my flight is cancelled. Requested to refund my full amount.

Food is terrible, service is not good. Staff were not personable and rushed food service.

Everything was good and no points to complain. Food is always a tricky concept. Sometimes you like it and sometimes you don’t. Food was redundant from Kuwait City to NY-JFK.

Beautiful Flight took off on time and everything was good

Comfortable seats. Be aware there is no alcohol on this airline.

It was very nice flight only suggestions to upload recent videos and English subtitles. Thanks

Everybody was so nice to treat me good all the workers When I came to Bangladesh there was just a little problem with the luggage but I got my luggage it took like two hours Other than that everything is good

Food quality should be upgrade. Plastic spoons looks like not good as well as food quality not up to the mark.

Everything was great specially the seats was comfortable even I was in the economy and the food was really Great👍

Not much on entertainment, food was good but not delicious, flight was on time

Flight was cancelled by air India. There was no explanation provided why the flight was cancelled. Found out that the flight was cancelled because the Iran air space was closed. Meanwhile, all other flights passing through that region were operating without issues. When asked to refund money for the tickets, being told that “ As checked, we wish to share that Flight AI 116 on 15 January 2026 from New York to Mumbai was cancelled due to Iran airspace closure, which were beyond the airline’s control. While such events can disrupt travel plans, we appreciate your understanding and patience. Our team remains committed to ensuring the safety and comfort of all passengers and takes all necessary measures to minimize any issues. However, we must inform you that compensation is not applicable under these extraordinary circumstances, in accordance with the relevant regulations.” Completed unacceptable and unprofessional behavior!

The seats were extremely uncomfortable. Air India seats used to be very comfortable . with sufficient legroom. In this aircraft there was no legroom. It is a shame that for your profit margins you are trying to pack people like cattle on these long haul flights. The food was terrible. The bread was hard like a rock. Mr CEO of Air India, why don’t you take a flight in economy from India to USA and experience the hardships first hand. It is utter disgrace

Absolutely nothing. Cold and unpleasant airline staff, and to top it all, the entertainment system was broken. Really harrowing experience.

BAD experience. Entertainment system was not working and most of the passengers had this issue. Staff was not helpful. Meal was yuck. Bad old flights.

Food was unfit even for prisoners. larger front seats are terribly uncomfortable, which is ironic. Thorough need to upgrade aircraft on such a long route.

Old fittings. Went business class. Staff not very considerate regards comfort.

Service was good, crew response was prompt. The baked fish and Malay fish as well as the sauces with them were bland.

I did like the food and frequency cycle in which was served. In the other hand there was no internet service. The trip is too long and there was no entertainment.

Asked for water, air hostess never returned. Bathrooms were messy. Tissue paper all on the floor Charging plug, TV not working I got board through out the long flight

I went flight in international, the flight was so Awfully for Me. There is no comfort in the seat and restroom’s are so smelly. I ask the cabin crew member for the drink or bear they did not serve me. I am not gonna travel again in the air India.
