Pros:The hertz employee (I do not recall his name) was easily the most helpful and friendliest rental agent I have interacted with in SJ. A+. And the car was excellentReviewed 20 Oct. 2020

Horrible pick upPros:Having a car.Cons:When I went to pick up the car, the Hertz agent told me there were no cars available for pick up and that there would be no cars available anytime soon, despite the fact that i had made a booking over 2 months prior. I had to return to the office every 30 mins for 3 hours to check availability because I had planned my trip around having a car. It wasn’t until 3 pm that a car finally became available. Not only did this waste multiple hours off of the first day of my trip, it was also extremely stressful to think that I may have had to forgo a number of bookings and plans that required me to have a car, so overall not a pleasant experience at all.Reviewed 1 Jan. 2019

Best avenue for renting a carPros:Before renting a car to San Juan, I tried several car rental places online and was shocked to see how much the cost was for a weeks rental at the airlines. Kayak helped me save $$$. I was able to rent a car at half the cost with no hidden fees. Never rent a car from the airline. Also, you can return the car to the airlines for a nominal fee of about $5.00 even if you rent from outside the facility. We rented from Hertz , and picked it up at the Marriott hotel and dropped it off at the airline. Wonderful experience. Thanks Kayak!Reviewed 24 Apr. 2017

They didn't have any carsPros:The representative was really apologetic and when I called kayak/hertz for a refund the processed it quickly.Cons:When I arrived at the airport, Hertz had no cars. I was told that I could get on a waiting list but that they wouldn't know when the cars would be returned. I rushed to another provider and found that they had an ongoing deal for situations like this so I was able to obtain a record from Hertz and rent from Thrifty at the same price. Needless to say, it was unexpected considering I had reserved a car and already paid for my reservation. And of course after traveling all day it was quite stressful, but I acted fast and was able to secure a car.Reviewed 27 Jan. 2018

Everything smooth except pick upPros:Ease of renting at the airport terminal.Cons:At pick up the credit card we used to make the reservation was in my name but the renter was my brother’s name. They said they had to match and couldn’t honor the reservation and it would cost us $250 instead of $100.49. Both my brother and I were at the rental counter, so we asked to put the car in my name. They said they wouldn’t be able to do that, however WE could call customer service and do that. So we did and they changed it to a new reservation with my name. The person at the counter of Hertz in San Juan was anything but helpful though. This process also took around 2 hours to complete. Pretty ridiculous and we ended up not making up into the mountain town we wanted to go to before dark and had to wait until the next morning to go. Need work on counter service.Reviewed 17 Jan. 2018

very good experience despite of a flat tirePros:We rented for 5 days at Puerto Rico, 3 days are actually enough and we paid for $360 at drop off, plus toll charges to come. The pick up and drop off were uneventful. The clerk at the front desk at the Marriott hotel actually made an excellent suggestion so we can return the car to the airport! Nice suggestion and thanks! We had a flat tire in the middle of the rental. The 800 phone call worked well and we were given 3 options. We changed the spare tire ourselves and returned to the airport for another car, fortunately one car was available for us and we were able to complete our trip with this minor interruption. There are many pot holes on the road in sunny Puerto Rico (sadly), especially driving to the rain forest, and they were not surprised we had a flat tire.Reviewed 28 Dec. 2016

Pros:gas mileageCons:I reserved a full size car (fusion or sonata) and ended up with chevy Malibu--very difficult for parents to get in and out of car. I had to wait over an hour to get my rental which I reserved well in advance. I then was directed to a parking lot where the hertz representative had no idea what or where my car was. Finally, they brought my car around and it was disgusting. The outside had so many dents and scraps I was afraid to drive it off the lot. Then the inside was equally as bad--smell, stained interior etc. This is the first time using Hertz and I will NOT use or advise any one to rent with Hertz. The previous three years I used enterprise at this location with MUCH better results.Reviewed 22 Nov. 2016

Great car, atrocious, useless, rude, scaremongering staffPros:Supplied with an awesome Jeep Renegade, in good condition. Fuel was super cheap, rental was very reasonable too, without all the (luckily optional) add ons that cost more than renting the car! Pretty clean too, and we got to collect our car 30 mins early.Cons:Horrible woman at check in /pick up. She started off nice but then when she realised we weren't going to pay $500 for 4 different types of insurance to cover the car, she went completely psycho on us, screaming, "my car is worth $25,000, who's going to cover the cost if it gets stolen?!" freaking us out and trying to scare us into spending x4 of what we paid to rent the car. She then tried to sell us fuel and additional driver charges, again as expensive as renting the car. No thanks lady! We took our chances and surprise surprise, we were fine! She made life so difficult and was unhelpful, mean and succeeded in worrying us about the crime levels in PR. When checking the car, we had to tell another employee to mark the obvious damaged underbelly of the Jeep which was hanging down almost touching the road. Finally, when refueling before returning the car, the fuel cap didn't open. We tried for 10 mins, watching you tube videos, checking the car manual and still couldn't get it open. Tried calling Hertz San Juan Airport and surprise surprise no one answered on 3 different extension lines, what if there was an emergency?! Useless. It was a Monday afternoon, 3pm. No excuse. We eventually pried the cap open with a credit card. Terrible.Reviewed 3 Feb. 2018

The unit rent was not available at pickup. Really disappointedPros:Price was ok.Cons:After 40 minutes wait because it was a solo employee, they didn’t have the minivan that I rent. They offer an “upgrade” to an SUV. Not happy at all. I rent a minivan for convinience of the space and the ease of in and out for elderly passagers (my mom and dad of 90’s). Very disappointedReviewed 22 Apr. 2018
