I sat in the middle seat between two hours other men. It was a constant struggle arm space. After 7hours in the air I could not wait to get off the plane. If I didn't actually pay an extra €60 for the seat I may not feel bad but I feel like I might have been better off without paying for the "upgrade""

The worst part was the crowded gate area at Boston. It made me feel like a cattle holding pen. Since we're told to get there two hours early, it would be nice to have more than a tiny little snack bar with overpriced pre-made sandwiches and salads that have been sitting out for who knows how long. Crappy lukewarm coffee. Starbucks is right outside security, but of course we can't bring liquids through."

Cons: "My issues are two part: 1 - I wasn't informed that I was required to retrieve my luggage from the carousel on this flight from George Town to Toronto. I thought perhaps I missed something, however, the three other couples that were in the same predicament I was weren't aware either. This caused a massive headache, the instructions were superbly poor on how to retrieve the luggage, and the process was completely a waste of time. We had to talk with three different people, the person that took us back to the carousel showed no urgency despite us all explaining that we were on a short layover, and might miss our next flight, and even though we had our passes to get through customs, we were made to wait in line to have our baggage inspected. A completely broken process that could've been avoided with a friendly reminder at check-in. 2 - Once I was able to retrieve my luggage I picked it up off the carousel only to find the handle on one piece of luggage had been ripped off, and the plastic lining on the other bag was destroyed. Admittedly I find this to be no surprise after seeing how mine and everyone else's luggage was handled so poorly upon being loaded into the cargo. I saw my luggage being tossed 3-5 feet into the cargo area - literally picked up, and with complete disregard flung like it was a trash bag being thrown into the dumpster. Since I didn't have time to discuss this with any staff due to my prior issue and being unable to find a representative once I landed back in Vancouver, I called the next day to discuss this over the phone, but the representative explained that I was only able to make a complaint in-person at the time of baggage retrieval. The person was absolutely useless and unwilling to help. This was by far the worst treatment I've had at any time in my life while flying any airline. The trip to George Town was with American Airlines, and even though it was longer, and a tad bit more expensive, the service I had with them was stellar by comparison to my experience with AirCanada. Going forward I will only be using AC when there are absolutely no other options."

I would have paid to have moved up to an un-occupied section of the aircraft if I could have. My mistake. I should have got up and walked around looking for these vacant seats. Despite the captain announcing that WIFI Internet was available for purchase. There was no WIFI on this aircraft. I am a tech guy. The flight attendant said just use your credit card. NO there was no WIFI available."

Pros: "Our connecting flight was cancelled due to weather. That is truly out of the airline’s control. What is in their control is communicating the status of the flight with us. When we checked in they took email addresses and cell phone numbers for status updates. We never received any updates. Consequently we didn’t know the flight had been cancelled until it was too late to make an adequate adjustment. On top of that we had to deal with the worst customer service rep in the world at the ticket booth when we struggled to make alternate plans. Completely unsatisfactory experience."
Cons: "I wasn’t able to check in online and therefore wasn’t able to update with my dietary requirements which meant I couldn’t really eat anything that was given. I was told at the airport that it needs to be submitted 24 hrs before the flight and there was nothing they could do. Really unfair and not on."
Pros: "The staff were great!! Always helpful and very friendly! The added flight from Ottawa to Toronto had fantastic staff as well. Would've been nice to have someone waiting for us at the Ottawa gate as we all missed our flights."
Cons: "The day was extended by 10 hours. It seemed like each time I was redirected including the added flight to Ottawa I was set up to miss a flight. I was sent to Ottawa because there wasn't enough oxygen on the flight to Toronto. 15 passengers missed our flight to Toronto because we left Fredericton late which put us on a new flight 2 hours later, that had mechanical issues so again a missed flight. I am happy they do their due diligence with safety, but it created a long day. They also had to stop food service before they got to me so I wasn't able to get food."

Pros: "As a professional musician, flying with my viola is one of the most nerve wracking experiences, as if it is forced to be checked due to insufficient room for overhead baggage, it could be completely destroyed. As stated in Air Canada's online policy, passengers traveling with musical instruments that fit as carry on baggage are allowed to change to earlier boarding zones. After approaching a staff member with my viola, I wasn't simply assigned an earlier zone, but rather I was allowed to board first. On this principle alone I will be flying Air Canada again. Thank you!!!"

Cons: "The flight was delayed several hours. The rows are way too close together to be remotely comfortable, and the seats themselves are tiny and barely recline. Being 5 months pregnant, I was uncomfortable the entire flight. The "entertainment" that you have to download an app for didn't work, and particularly stung knowing how much we paid for the flights, and that other airlines simply put a TV on the back of each seat that is easy to connect headphones and view. The food on our previous flight had been so terrible we didn't bother on this trip, but it looked equally awful. My husband was in the aisle seat and the flight attendant repeatedly and without warning hit him with the cart. The flight attendants varied in level of friendliness, but the ones in our row rushed through service, and did not give us the options the other row had (ice in drinks, veggie or meat options). All in all, it was kind of a terrible flight experience."

Cons: "Extreme delays on my return flight which made me miss my connection and get rebooked on another flight for the next day. We were delayed on departure, then on the tarmac, then in the air, and finally when getting off the plane. I am glad that I was rebooked and was given a hotel to stay at, but I did not like the way I was treated by Air Canada staff at customs. I passed through customs only to be sent back into Canada after having crossed through security because the staff decided to close. We were told by other staff members that it was up to them to decide when they were done and to talk them. I ran through the whole airport with about 7 other people to make it. Why make us cross through security only to send us back? There was no one there to guide us on what to do. I had to go through the whole thing again the following day only to have my face cream taken away (it is technically cream, not a liquid) and then be detained. None of this happened AT ALL the day before. I'd give more details but it was a complete mess."

Cons: "The flights attendants uniforms were wrinkled and old, tired and worn out looking, their behaviour was the same. They were pretty much tired and disinterested in their job. Time to hire new blood, get new, fresh looking uniforms, and there definitely should be a weight limit, I have seen flight attendants who have to turn sideways to get down the aisle comfortably, what on earth would they do in an emergency. Yes size does matter. Look to JAP airlines for style and dignity in the job. Having said that I love Air Canada and fly it as often as possible home."

Cons: "I was stuck in immigration for about an hour. The screening process at this airport is so laborious. You have to wait on a bench until they call your name and they don't care if your flight is about to be boarding. I understand that immigration is necessary but they could at least have people form a queue instead of having us wait for our names to be called. I told them that my flight would be boarding in 25 minutes and they told me "Oh, don't worry, they'll just put you on the next flight". But when I got to my airline to check in, they charged me $150. I needed that $150 to pay some bills when I got back home."

Cons: "One hour late leaving, no reason or information given. Food was awful with green sauce on chicken and celery bits in milk for salad, the connecting flight was cancelled and the option was another flight in two days. The only flight going later that evening was full and the next day was full also they said. An hour later a bus service was offered leaving in ten minutes which many of us raced to catch on our own with no one to show us how to get to the bus. The bus we were told to look for was the wrong bus. Of course our luggage didn't make it and that took another hour to register at our destination as every one else on the bus didn't get their luggage either. Bus driver got lost but passengers were able to show him the way. This is the third time in four flights Air Canada has lost our luggage. The worst was the NO ONE ever smiles, we were watching for it, and certainly NO ONE ever says we are sorry you are inconvenienced which would go a long way to make the delays and changes more tolerable."

It would have been nice if this could have been notified earlier, rather than having to wait for all passenger's luggage to be delivered before realising that our's was not there."
Cons: "Flight canceled due to mechanical problems. Out of 4 agents at desk at airport only one knew what to do in case of a cancellation. They all stood around eating raisinettes! Unprofessional, lack of training, lack of planning (why wasn't another plane sent). One agent was going through the line giving out a phone number to call? Why weren't they trained? I called and thankful I was up at the desk so I could tell the agent what to do from the lady on the phone! Lost a day on our already short Christmas visit with family. Would love a refund!"

Cons: "The check in counter in Dublin was horrendous. I was forced to check a luggage that was my carry-on on the outgoing flight so there was no reason it was not going to fit on the upper compartment, but the counter agent forced me to check it anyway, even with it being under weight limit. The line was huge and there were 5 counter agents, but 3, and at times 4 agents, at a time, were only pulling from the priority boarding line. We had to wait more than one hour to check in. Than to the boarding, the same people from the counter were the boarding agents. The boarding was extremely slow and again unorganized."

Cons: "To pay so much for a transatlantic flight and have to pay $10 for an IPad on the 8 hour trip home??? It would be nice if even limited internet was included so we could use our own device. The worse experience was getting through customs at the airport in Barcelona on the way home. Only two agents available to stamp passports on a Sunday morning when the world's largest cruise ship (Royal Caribbean Harmony of the Seas) had docked earlier that morning? We arrived at the airport at 8:30 and no Air Canada agents were available to check us in until 9:00. After waiting to get through customs and we proceeded to our gate, our 11:45 flight was just beginning to load! Lots of shoving and people cutting line to avoid being late for their flight. I heard one person mention they had missed their flight, and I'm certain many others did as well. With the chaos and delay, I'm surprised altercations didn't happen. The airports/airlines need to work with the local authorities to avoid these delays and provide their customers better service."

Cons: "Flight from Paris to Toronto was delayed 4 hours. That automatically caused us to miss our connecting flight from Toronto to Nashville. The 1st flight turned out to be more than 4 hours late. The 2nd flight was delayed as well. Not to mention we were directed many places throughout the Toronto airport trying to locate a boarding pass for the 2nd flight in hopes to make it to Nashville that day. All members of the Air Canada staff were helpful, however traveling for over 20 hours majority of which was spent in foreign airports made for a long and unpleasant day. It would have been different had it been our fault for being late or missing a flight, but we were very early for our international flights which simply added to the amount of time we had to sit, wait, and hope. A coupon was given to us, however being that I live in a different country I don't know how quick I will be able to redeem this."

Announcements were difficult to hear in the terminal; there was a step requiring all passengers to queue up as if boarding but instead it was a passport/boarding pass check. The two queues were not labeled, there was much line-switching, and the passport-check lines blocked the terminal for travelers for other flights... The incoming plane was late; we wondered why this passport check could not have proceeded while we waited instead of delaying our boarding once our plane arrived."

Cons: "I didn't like that they either started boarding too early or we waited a long time to get off the runway as it seemed we were on the plane a long time before we actually left. Also we just received our snack and our drink and as soon as we received them, a stewardess told us to all put our tables up and I do believe that it was because we were descending to land. It seemed like forever before we received our snack and then we're told we couldn't use our tables. I think they should have started the snacks earlier as it was quite a big plane and it probably would take quite a long time to serve everyone and the worst part of it all was that I had asked for a can of pop, so I had to hold my can of pop, my glass pop and try to get my snack out of the package which was not easy at all."

I just would have been a problem for someone else. The steward made me feel as though I was at fault because I should have payed the extra 100 to have emergency exit seating, they tried to get me to sit in the very back row of the plain and sit sideways across the two seats which means I would not be able to sit next to my fiancé. The whole thing was embarrassing and very rude, maybe people of 6'6" should be charged for emergency exit!!"

This time check in was very disorganized and unprofessional (I got scolded when my luggage bumped the post that forms the line that was set up after half the passengers were there making the last to show up first in line.) The flight was delayed and hour for a broken air mask upon departure . The monitor screens were hard to see and harder to hear. Upon arrival we sat for 30 minutes because they couldn't shut the engines down. Customs was a breeze but the walk from terminal to customize to the next terminal had me winded, luckily my connecting Air Canada flight was late also . And this was the better part of my experience. My flight to Athens was miserable ( lots of screaming children spread out through the plane). And when I thought it was over my luggage was separated and lost for 3 days. I should send you the underwear as a reminder of my experience"

Cons: "I booked my flight 8 months in advance and pre ordered a vegetarian meal a week before leaving for my trip. They "forgot" one of my meals (breakfast meal) on my return flight home. Hey also gave me a tuna sandwich for my snack, which means they also didn not have a vegetarian sandwich for me in between my dinner and breakfast meals. It was the first time every traveling overseas that they've made an error with my meal plan after flying on multiple airlines. My connection was a nightmare as I had to wait to go through security and customs which took over an hour and then my second flight was delayed. I will never fly through Canada again from the U.S. To another destination country."

Especially since we were on the plane an extra 2 hours from a delay. The flight delay caused me to miss my connection flight. And then I wasn't put on the next available one, I had to wait around in the airport for a very long time, 4 hours to fly home. My baggage was lost. And my credit card was charged twice for my checked bag. The customer service employees in the airport refused to help me with either issues. I am extremely unsatisfied with my experience on Air Canada and will never be flying with it again."

I stepped off that plane to my connector to Paris when boarding was suppose to start but that plane was on an hour delay. The food is just horrible, anyone who has flown knows this, and on both flights first class was the only priority. They got to everyone else when it was convenient. This was my first time flying with Air Canada and will certainly be my last. I'll happily pay a little more for the other airlines. So if you fly with them, good luck to you."

Cons: "The fight itself was fine. Not great. Not terrible. But the airline lost my son's suitcase and has been entirely unhelpful ever since then. Now we have been stuck in a foreign country without clothes and toiletries for 36 hours and Air Canada's "helpline" has been anything but helpful. They can not find any information on the location of the suitcase and hope that they will find it in another 48 hours. Rediculous!! I will never fly them again and suggest that you save your money, effort and vacation by flying with another airline."

Nor China Southern, nor KLM nor Kayak did inform us about this at anytime. This never happened to us and if we knew in advance we would not have booked this connection (one in Amsterdam and one in Chengdu). Passengers need to be informed about this! Some people mentioned this is Chinese state policy, still not sure about this though. * Horrible transfer experience: In summary we were on ourselves, information was absent or just plain wrong by the ground staff at Chengdu airport. Which resultet in us queuing in 3 different lanes. Even in the first lane we queued, following official signs for transfer, the first staff told us we can queue here but then the lady at the counter (after 30min queueing) told us to go somewhere else instead. We had to wait in the rain to take a shuttle bus to another terminal. There we then queued at a China Southern counter, but it turned out to be incompatible with our ticket (booked with China Southern but operated by China Eastern - not communicated to us). Hence we queued yet again at a China Eastern counter which was eventually the correct one. Common to all this was the negative attitude of all staff which basically didn't care at all and were just incompetent. Note that this was not a language issue, as one of us is fluent in Chinese. * Once boarded the plane, which was 25% full, we were even disallowed to change seats due to "weight balance issue" (which seems to be just a joke given the weight of the airplane itself...). Note that the check-in agent explicitely told that because the plane is half-full we can just freely select an empty seat - yet another false information. * Conclusion: 1. Transparent information is they key for making a booking decision. 2. Do not fly via Chengdu airport. This will just ruin your trip. This airport is not ready to serve as international transfer spot."

Cons: "This ridiculous airline and it's rude, obnoxious staff in Chengdu made a mockery of my friend and I (two 21 year old American girls traveling alone). We had booked round trip tickets back in October 2017 that included a 1 hour layover in Chengdu first, then a 7 hour layover in Shanghai on our way to Bangkok for a trip in Thailand. That was fine with us. Then all of a sudden it changed to a 6 hour layover in Chengdu then an 18 HOUR layover in Shanghai. We decided to deal with it and get a hotel room in Shanghai, no big deal. After a great trip in Thailand and leaving fine from Bangkok to our first layover in Chengdu, that is where the nightmare started. First off, going through Chengdu customs, I don't know if it is because Americans do not travel through there a lot, but the officers pulled us aside and were passing around our American passports around their staff, taking pictures of them with Iphones before handing us "in-transit" paperwork to fill out. As weird as that was, no one really seemed to speak english and we just wanted to get away from them and get through. When we went to the check in counter, they handed me a boarding pass for our flight at 1:50 that afternoon, but then proceeded to tell my friend that she wasn't on a flight until the next morning at 7 am out of Chengdu and our original connecting flight out of Shanghai at 11:50 the next morning was now at 8 pm for her. What could have been simply fixed like it WAS after calling priceline and our travel agent, the staff at the ticket counter and a representative over the phone made our lives living hell. They barely spoke english and the ones that did were very rude to us, saying that they couldn't help us and put us on the phone with China Eastern. FOR AN HOUR AND A HALF we were on the phone with a representative who was talking us in circles, telling us that there were no available seats on the 1:50 and that he could get her on the next 3:45 out of Chengdu, then put us on hold to come back and say he couldn't only change 1 domestic flight in China, but would have to cancel her flight to NY. When offering to pay to just DO IT and get out of china, he said that if he were to cancel it and take our credit card info, it "may or may not go through" and if it didn't she would be stuck with no flights. When asked how that made any sense, he proceeds to say" Because miss, our system sucks," and other rude things like "Why can't you just keep your flight and meet your friend in NY." then him along with a rude ticket counter guy say that he could help us if we took 5,000 yuan out of the bank and paid them cash. TRYING TO SCAM US. After all this drama a simple call to priceline was able to fix the problem no payment involved, and there WERE available seats on all the flights and a domestic flight could be changed. LYING, SCAMMING, RUDE, individuals. Definitely worth a little more money to take any other airline BUT THIS ONE."

When told that people were hungry and freezing, instead of moving to an indoor heated terminal, they simply brought down airplane blankets which did little, and a case of water bottles and airplane food to which they only passed out to the Chinese passengers and when any nonChinese passengers went to get food or water, there were turned away. I truly have never experienced anything in my life like this. It borderlined on inhumane. Worst experience of my life. Do not ever fly China Eastern."

Pros: "I have flown with Air China before and had a bad experience. They are improving everything from customer service to in-flight amenities. Transfers in Beijing are still a problem with zero efficiency."

Cons: "Food was terrible. Drinks are served room temperature without ice. Staff was rude. Tried multiple different televisions that barely worked. They will not let you have your phone on even on airplane mode for music or games, etc. Would not take again."
Cons: "I flew Alaska Airlines to San Jose and San Jose to Shanghai on air China. I was told by Alaska my baggage would be carried all the way through to Pudong airport. My baggage claim ticked showed that. When I got to PVG Pudong airport in Shanghai my baggage was not there they were not very helpful and difficult to understand. They told me they thought my baggage would come ther on another flight and gave me a form. By the next evening I had not heard from them. I emailed them again and I'm currently in Japan waiting to see if they will send me my luggage. Do not expect the kind of customer service in China as you would in the US or Japan.Shanghai airport is, at best, difficult to navigate...stay away from all the taxi solicitors."

Cons: "Flight was delayed but no announcements and no change to boarding information posted at gate. Food was inedible and also not enough for the long flight. The major food groups served were white bread, white rice, and more white bread. With some extremely salty and corn starchy food in small amounts to go with. Entertainment system had touch screen that was very difficult to use, 90 percent Chinese movies, and headphone was very unsatisfactory."

A ticketing agent called about an hour later and said the flight I booked was unavailable so they switched me to China Southern (where I have no status) but have status with Air China as Star Gold. In addition, they charged me an extra $330 US, so the good fare on Air Chain / Air New Zealand did not materialize. I am thoroughly disgusted with the process and FlightNetwork."

Cons: "On the way from Auckland to Beijing, our flight was diverted to Hangzhou. Air China gave no communication why and when we would be able to leave the tarmac so we waited on the tarmac for 6+ hours. The pilots and flight attendants barely spoke English so they were not able to communicate the reason for our cancellation nor what they would do to provide other options for our connection flights. I missed my flight to the US due to this cancellation without reimbursement from Air China."

Pros: "Loved the price. The seat back entertainement was good. They had a good selection of movies, shows, music and games."
Cons: "The seat back entertainment touch screens aren't the best quality and would freeze a lot. Even though there was a good selection of entertainment, it wasn't really enough for stuff for round trip (13+ hrs x 2). I would recommend a few more movies. The food was okay, but not great. They came around with carts with drinks but would only pour about 4oz at a time and maybe came 5 times. Not enough for a 13 hour flight. Also, Chinese got preferential treatment for sure, and rude to Americans. Had a connecting flight which we were late so tried to get a flight attendant help us off first. Nope, just said there wasn't enough time and we would miss it and would have to get a flight the next day. Thankfully there were enough people taking the connecting flight they delayed it and we made it, but they do not care..."

Cons: "Very uncomfortable, bad food, and way too many interruptions about turbulence. They could have just said this once, but they would repeat the message in Mandarin and English 3 or 4 times in the span of 5 minutes. We get it. Just say, "Please stay seated" and leave it alone"
Pros: "There was really anything exciting about the flight. Far under par."
Cons: "Seems like the crew forgot about us once they turned the lights down. Getting water was a mission. They also left one of our bags in Beijing. Getting it now is a mission."
