Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews
Pros: "Even woth premium economy it still wasnt as good as thought it was going to be."
Cons: "Planes need to update seats"
Cons: "Need better movie options"
Pros: "The plane from Guangzhou to Beijing was newer and very well designed business class seats, the convenient layout was exceptional. I think the meal ok but the staff was exceptionally friendly helpful and took good care of me. Also this aircraft had a large movie assortment, larger than usual."
Cons: "I think the meals are the only area lacking, again not easy to have pre made meals that are as good reheated."
Pros: "bad middle seat - no advance seat selection available even 4 days in advance from kayak app and just fly website said link is broken. airchina website cannot find ticket. empty exit row seats not allocated upon request - airlines wanted $100 more for it. allocated randomly to others mid flight."
Cons: "advance seat allocation at the time of booking."
Pros: "The crew are very helpful. Services are very good."
Pros: "Boarding was easy and the crew were wonderful."
Cons: "Entertainment was weak. Food was horrible."
Cons: "We only had one hour to catch our connecting flight, which was canceled and rescheduled by air China not by customer. Rude!"
Cons: "Very Old plane The entertainment system was down during entire 9hour trip Food is terrible, noodle so dry, can not eat After toilet visit, the water is not working, can not wash your hand"
Pros: "Great crews! Great food!"
Cons: "There is nothing I can complain"
Pros: "Wide bed and good support for good sleep"
Cons: "Not a big movie selection"
Cons: "The Airport crew send us back and forth to where we go for our missed flights.Wifi connection in Beijng Airport is available but cant connect at all . Food like the noodle meal should improve or can be replace to something better. Crew should be morev fluent in English for better conversation among passengers."
Cons: "I booked for my wife and son. The Air China lady didn't want to let them board. She said at check-in the passport number on the reservation wouldn't match my wife's passport although in Houston they could bring up her ticket perfectly fine with the same passport. Took 45 minutes and the help of a more customer service oriented co-worker to get it resolved. Poor and stressful experience."
Pros: "On board crew service is better than US airline"
Cons: "Ground service (in it's JFK airport desks) of Air China were unsatisfied. It has not been improved for more than ten years."
Cons: "The headphone jack was broken so listening to movies was hard. There wasn't a huge variety of food selections"
Cons: "The flight had 02:30 delay due to a technical problem, when we Arrive the luggage was broken."
Pros: "Boarding was efficient and quick. New large plane with adequate IFE; I was prepared with pre-downloaded netflix on my ipad just in case. Two meals were served in addition to beverages and free beer/ wine. Our flight from SFO-to Beijing was great and on par with any other airline on a long haul flight. Our shorter Beijing to Osaka flight was on an older plane that did not have IFE, that is where I am glad I had downloaded some videos and movies to watch. This flight was also delayed for 1 hour on the tarmac due to flight control scheduling. No major complaints about the flight or plane. Transit hotels were provided on both legs of the flight in Beijing. They are a coin toss in terms of quality. The first hotel was garbage, dirty and smelled beyond bad of rot and ciggarette smoke combined with Beijing polluted air, breathing was difficult. Upon our return trip to SFO, we had a much better hotel. Cleaner, bigger, and it felt safer."
Cons: "There were a lot of in-flight announcements that were redundant: Ex:Duty free shopping alerts multiple times in a short span of time by different FA. The FA were not very concerned with passengers standing and walking around during taxi on the tarmac..I was stunned not only at the passengers carelessness disregard for safety or rules to remain seated. It just felt like the bar for passenger safety was a left to each passenger to decide."
Pros: "The flight attendant crew is pretty good. They don’t speak great English and when they are working they are short and not so courteous, however after they have served and a bit more relaxed they are pleasant."
Cons: "Ticketing staff are horrendous to be polite. There is no such thing as customer service. Checked in online and had seat confirmation and when I was at the booth my connection flight had me sitting somewhere completely different. I showed the email confirmation to the ticketing agent and she said that’s not a confirmation and would have nothing to do with it. I quickly realized i was going to get no where so left it."
Pros: "Crew was nice and attentive."
Cons: "Food was bad."
Pros: "Good flight, clean, good service and great price"
Cons: "Food for vegetarians is not that great. Carry your own food. English is definitely a problem for the crew but everything is manageable."
Cons: "- Surly staff, terrible food, terrible cellphone policies (to be fair, this is a china-wide issue), crowded seats, old planes. I HATE AIR CHINA and will try to avoid flying them as much as possible"
Pros: "Middle of the roax"
Cons: "To tight of a seat for a man who is 6'3 275 lbs. Shear brutality"
Pros: "There is nothing I liked about Air China. It is a joke of an airline."
Cons: "Things I didn't like: 1. Cannot use smartphones during the entirety of the flight: customers should be warned that smartphones are not allowed to be used during the entire flight. I would not of chosen this horrible airlines if I'd known. I would of gladly spent hundreds more on another airline to avoid this inconvenience. I saved games and movies I wanted to play onto my phone for my 20hr flight and learned from the flight attendant that phones usage was not permitted. What a waste. Plus their movie selections were very limited and a complete joke compared to American, Delta, Virgin, or JetBlue. 2. Food: HORRIBLE TASTING FOOD. Air China should be ashamed of themselves to represent "Chinese food" in this way. I found 3 out of 4 of my meals completely inedible and absolutely disgusting. 3. Most cramped seats I've ever flew in: These seats are just tests to see how much you can put up with flying."
Cons: "Little movie options"
Pros: "My Sleep"
Cons: "EVERYTHING ELSE"
Pros: "Compare to the price of ticket, I thought the service was good and the seats were not so tight."
Cons: "I did not like the food that were served."
Cons: "This was like flying in the 90's. The seats were super small and uncomfortable my TV didn't work and they wouldn't let me use my phone (even on fly mode) and the Beijing international airport didn't have WiFi."
Pros: "Fare prices were inexpensive."
Cons: "1 out of the 2 meals did not taste like much. Meat was extremely chewy. 2 hour layover was not enough time to do customs and re-check-in through security to catch the domestic flight. Beijing airport employees barely knew where to direct you for reacquiring a new flight."
Pros: "it was a very comfortable flight and the crew was friendly and helpful. We were traveling with two small children, so saying it was a comfortable flight is very high praise."
Cons: "It was VERY annoying that we had to keep all cell phones turned off the entire flight. We preloaded games for my 5 year old son on an old iPhone 4 that is not connected to the internet or any cell service or bluetooth or anything and he was not allowed to use it the entire flight. Very frustrating for him and us. I wish this information was clearly provided on the Air China website when we booked the tickets so we could have planned accordingly."
Pros: "Clean cabin."
Cons: "Service not very good."
Cons: "The air China flight attendants are some of the rudest people I have encountered. They were extremely unhelpful and one went so far as to sigh and roll her eyes at me. Our flight was also delayed for four hours with no explanation, while we all sat on the plane waiting. Finally they made us all get off of the plane issued us new tickets and then we got back on. The whole process was rediculous. The seat space was smaller than usual and the plane was very dirty. It was also the worst airplane food I have ever tasted. I would definitely recommend not flying air China. K"
Cons: "Same as above, and the entertainment is also limited for western customers."
Pros: "Delayed 8 hours in Beijing with no info given on departure updates. Worst flight ever."
Cons: "Almost four hour delay to destination"
Pros: "Nothing, it was a horrible, never to be repeated experience compared to JAL, Asiana, and China Airlines (Taipei), which I ususually take."
Cons: "Inconvenient gates, landed in LAX near the beach, 40 minute bus ride to Tom Bradley. Horrible, inedible food. Basically I will never take this airline again and strongly recommend that their low-ball pricing is like a mean trick; and not worth the low cost at all. I should have known, "you get what you pay for"."
Pros: "service for first and business class was very good, including the food and hotel arrangment"
Cons: "the flight from Nanjing to beijing was delayed so I got to hotel after midnight, and had to get up early in the morning to catch up 2nd flight to US. I was exhausted."
Pros: "It was okay. The crew was fine, food was okay,"
Cons: "Comfort. Maybe because im a lil bit large, should be more choices on entertainment"
Pros: "enjoy movies"
Cons: "after a long flight overnight，breakfast and lunch are combined as brunch at 1:30pm melbourne time - but chicken rice /pork rice definitely are not so exciting ！"
Cons: "The lack of follow up and follow through support on lost baggage. 2 lost baggages."
Cons: "The food The plane was old"
Pros: "By far the cheapest booking cost... but at a cost"
Cons: "Every single leg that was not a code share ended up being delayed. Multiple bookings over multiple flights and date/times were delayed. Worst on-time of any major airlines. So you get what you pay for..."
Pros: "I enjoyed the entertainment offered, and the hot jasmine tea was yummy."
Cons: "They did not give us enough water for a 12 hour flight. They only came around four times – once before the two meals and once after – and they only filled up the small cup about half way each time. I left the plane dehydrated after the first flight. On the return trip, I bought a bottle of water in the terminal to take on the plane, but they confiscated it at the gate. I've never had that happen before, especially since I bought it past security in the Beijing airport. Since they took it, I probably annoyed the flight attendants with how much I asked for water, but I didn't really care."
Pros: "Newish aircraft and comfortable seats"
Pros: "For economy class it was very good."
Cons: "It was economy class and the seat was uncomfortable."
Pros: "The flight was generally fine and on time. Good as good as to be expected on midrange flight."
Cons: "Transfering in Chengdu takes forever. First we didn't get a gate and had to take a bus to terminal the long way round the runway - 10 mins. Then we had to collect our suitcases and re-check in and the queue was very long. Some people were very stressed about missing their connecting flights. Then when transferring to connecting terminal you first have to walk far within the terminal, then have to go outside security, find yourself the shuttle bus to the other terminal yourself, then go through security again - many more queues. Lots of time spent and lots of stress, and I'm not alone as everyone was complaining."
Cons: "I lost one luggage and is still waiting for Air China finding it."
Cons: "The very worst thing is that I flew into Beijing 90 minutes before my next flight -- had to go through terminal transfer and a VERY LONG immigration line. In fact, I MISSED MY FLIGHT TO CHENGDU, and Air China had to book me on a later flight. The Beijing airport is cranky and difficult to smoothly get from one place to another, but missing this flight was COMPLETELY AVOIDABLE if there were ANY Air China staff around to assist and there weren't."
Pros: "I liked the room on the airbus jet more than the room on the Boeing jet going over to Begging we were in a 737 that was squeezed sideways.. I liked the spac3e tha5t one less seat across provided."
