Cons: Spartan rooms that could easily be improved upon, ie. luggage racks, any decoration, lighting inside room entrance, TV system that works. One desk person (seemed like manager) said we had good view room - view was of us for double buses parked in front.

Cons: I didn't like that I had to pay inflated prices because the festival was on. Also I took I'll with a bug so didn't have as good as stay as planned. Nothing to do with the hotel I might add.

Cons: Although it was fitted out like all the other rooms and I'm sure clean (I wasn't in it long enough to find out), it was completely claustrophobic. And it looked DIRECTLY onto a brick wall. I could not stay in it and asked for another room. Any other room.

Cons: The bed was tiny for two people. Somewhere between a twin size and a double size. Definitely not very sleep-able for people used to a king or a king or queen sized bed. To the hotel's credit though, I was too tired to ask for a different room.

Pros: Had an amazing stay here, the rooms were modern clean and spacious and there was two small welcome bottles of Scottish Whisky in our room waiting for us which was great! The shower was amazing and the toiletries were very good quality- not conditioner though but luckily I had some already, We were late for breakfast (too difficult to leave the HUGE comfy bed) but the staff were very accommodating and even offered to get some fresh food cooked for us.

Cons: The breakfast was an experience! Considerably understaffed with only two members managing a packed dining space. It took 35 mins for coffee to arrive, which we were told was due to the “ tickets being backed up”, which is really unacceptable considering coffee does not require a skilled professional. The other patrons at breakfast were visibly frustrated at their service being slow too. Eventually a plethora, of what I can only assume were managers, showed up to help the staff clear the littered tables. In the end after a full hour we left the bistro hungry and frustrated without breakfast. It was highly disappointing considering the service your provide is of two parts , bed and breakfast, of which we only received one!

Our visits to the bar each evening we’re made extremely enjoyable, especially with the bar staff who made us feel very welcome. Our lunch was outstanding, try the Squid it’s Devine, we went back twice. Our Greek waitress was very friendly. Finally, our room was lovely, there was nothing else they could of thought off. Lovely bedding and comfortable bed, Elemis toiletries provided daily, coffee and tea making facilities and complimentary water provided. A definite visit and prime location. Will definitely be returning.

Cons: 1. For a royal mile suite, main bathroom was standard. Overly spacious living room really could’ve spared space for a more comfortable bathroom befitting suite.
2. Website advertised kids eat free. However, when we ordered meals for the kids via room service, we were told it’s not free. Extremely deceptive and off putting of brand.
3. I emailed the hotel 1 week in advance of 4-day stay and asked for milk, orange juice, and water in room stocked and included room mini fridge. Email from customer service acknowledged request and even confirmed we still wanted wine and beer - a nice catch! However, when we arrived, we were informed juice and milk not included. False service promise should’ve not been made.
Room service food was Not worth price (pizza, burger, and kids chicken meal were only ok but far more expensive than eaterery options all around).

Cons: The glass panel protecting the floor from water as the shower was running didn't really do it's job and thus the floor was often slightly flooded. This is the only negative from our stay!

Cons: Looking a bit tired. Desk in room had big scratch on it. Also, on a previous stay breakfast was on the top floor which was lovely. This time we were in the lower part of the ground floor restaurant. The continental breakfast choice was quite poor considering the price. The toast was merely warmed up bread and coffee wasn't particularly hot. My elderly parents in their 80s, who were also staying, were unable to shower as they couldn't get in or out of the very steep sided bath.

It was very clean and had a hairdryer, iron and ironing board, tea and coffee making facilities and a large telly. The bathroom was fabulous. Very big with a big double shower with two shower heads. The only complaint about the room was it was always very warm which was sometimes a little uncomfortable. Otherwise great. The staff were so nice and friendly.

Cons: There could have been a mirror on the desk as it was quite hard to do my make up and hair without having to use the small handheld bathroom mirror or wardrobe mirror. Was a bit noisy at night with banging and people walking up and down the corridor.

Pros: Location is superb. Once we finally got our room, I must say that the Junior suite is a decent size.
Cons: When we checked in we were given the wrong room. The staff didn't do a thing, we had to ask for the correct room ourselves. + the room didn't come with the additional things we ordered (chocolates, bath foam). Hence for 1 night we had to sleep at a lower value room. No compensations were made. Utterly disappointed in the staff. Once we were given the correct room the staff claimed we were getting an upgrade but instead we just got the room we paid for. + when they moved our stuff from one room to the other it looked as if our things were just thrown there. The breakfast could have had more variety as well.. The windows were super loud with the wind.

Pros: Hilton are our Hotel Group of choice. I just thought this one to be overly expensive probably only justifying itself because of its proximity to the Old Town and the Royal Mile. The bedroom and bathroom were small and the rest of the hotel just felt like an apartment building. There was no real old-world warmth.
As you would expect the staff were very friendly and helpful.My final gripe was that the parking was public and some distance away down a hill and some very steep steps.This,I concede however,is probably the case with most Edinburgh hotels.

Cons: I think for international guests who fly in overnight an option for early checkin would be great even if it cost additional. We wanted to freshen up and had to use a restroom in the restaurant in the hotel which was not a great option.

Cons: Housekeeping service slow, for two days we left our room around 9 O'Clock and return back around 1 but we found that no one clean our room. So, we had to call the reception to ask them to clean our room everyday.

Pros: The fun, funky vibe and central location were what attracted me to this hotel initially. However, there is a pub on the ground floor and our room was on the first floor directly over the bar where live music was played well into the night. When I requested a room change, they were fully booked but said I could change rooms the following day.
Unfortunately, we weren't informed of the room change procedure and the room promised to us on the second night was given to someone else. Very disappointing.
The hotel staff should be better trained to fully inform guests of room change policy. Also, guests should be warned at check-in that their room is over a pub that plays live music on Friday nights and offer them ear plugs in advance before they realize they can't sleep.
The management did offer a gesture of compensation but really, had I been informed and been offered ear plugs on arrival, I would have actually enjoyed my stay.
Other comments on the room: the sheets were clean and the bathroom also seemed clean but there were tons of dirty marks on the walls and dirty windowsills, which is not nice to see at hotel at this price point.

I was visiting for the Fringe Festival and International Book Fair. The hotel was a perfect location. There is a bit of walking to visit Edinburgh, but I left feeling quite healthy which is a good thing!

Cons: Room size for a double was really small, not snug as receptionist told us on arrival. Bed was positioned against the wall so access to one side was climbing over, not ideal. Lift not available above 1st floor, we were on 3rd floor and was told this 3 times by receptionist, in detail, like we didn't understand the first time. Decor needs freshening up/changed, dandy comic wallpaper too much in a room that size with 1 black wall, 1 white wall and wooden panelling on the other. Bed lumpy and too soft, not great, no headboard or bedside lamp so it was very bright ceiling lights until you went to sleep. Checking out was quick, like we had disturbed the conversation between staff, but once she saw no bill to settle she was back to her chat! Bye then! Definitely a single room, not a double

In urgent need of complete renovation from A-Z. 1.. advertised 400 yards from the railway station- maybe if you are a crow and can fly but in fact it was an uphill-downhill trek for around an hour. Everything old, not-maintained and hideous. old furniture , pages torn out of old 'Dandy" comics for wallpaper. if anything was painted it was black. Most things weren't painted

Pros: I arrived from the US a 6:45 am. I got to the Residence Inn at about 8 am-well before standard check-in. Sara at the front desk was awesome! She offered me coffee and breakfast, and to watch my luggage until my room became ready. And at 10:30am, she gave me my room keys. Thank you for being so very friendly and accommodating!

Pros: The size of the room was great compared to other hotels in a city. The little kitchen was a fantastic amenity. Location was very close to all attractions and little shops and cafes close by. Although there was some construction going on opposite ( obviously not the hotels fault) we found our room quiet with no road noise at night. The staff were friendly and helpful. The included in the rate breakfast was really good.

Cons: As other reviewers have commented the room could have done with a bit of a facelift. Grout in shower was a bit mouldy in places. Our curtain was hanging down and some of the flooring and paintwork required attention. None of the above was anything too serious and certainly did not affect the enjoyment of our stay. We would go back to this hotel.

Cons: The reception staff was awesome. The bathroom in the room however is where I had an issue. I didn’t notice until I took a shower that night but there was mold ALL OVER the ceiling and in the corners of the bathroom. I brought it up to the staff in the morning and they said that they would get it cleaned off. I came back to the room that evening and there was still mold on the ceiling. I looked like they tried to get off some of the bigger spots and then just gave up half way through. It was brought up to them again and I got the same BS answer/result. Luckily we were checking out the next morning. I definitely won’t be staying here again. The staff can’t even take mold issues that can affect someone health seriously.

Cons: Receptionist couldn’t offer our rooms early as they weren’t ready when we arrived at 1.30. No problem, however she was happy for us to pay £30 for an upgrade and then we could have the room straight away. Thought that was very cheeky.

It was handy for the Royal Mile and plenty of bars and restaurants but, because of the bad weather, we chose to eat in the hotel restaurant ( a limited menu but the food was good and reasonably priced). Breakfast was also good with a variety which would suit most people. The bedroom (premium with comfortable seating)! was ok - the only problem being the noisy air conditioning which sounded like a house alarm going off continually in the distance.

Cons: This is not a hotel, rather a travelodge-type upmarket hostel with private rooms. Things to be aware of: 1 windows cannot be opened - repeat: one canNOT open the windows at all - not even an inch! The result is sticky air esp. at night. 2 heating/airing is by air-conditioning only; apart from being ecologically unfriendly, this means that there is always a noise and draft in the room if the system is used. Note: even if one switches off one's own air-conditioning, there will be at times air blasted into one's room as part of the wider airing set-up. Note that the room is never really warm in the winter, while even in the relatively cool Scottish summers one needs to use air-conditioning in order not to sweat at night ... not great! 3 bathrooms are plastic, window-less cubicles in the corner of the room: because these are ready-built, it means that there is a step (!) from the room into the bathroom - which will easily cause problems for anyone with mobility issues. (The rest of the building/floors/etc is accessible from the street via elevators) 4 still on the bathrooms: the 'plumbing' system is such that one hears regularly 'plumbing' noises, like water being drawn through the system etc. 5 staff are all friendly, very young, and with little hotel experience; when asked about the locked windows, I was told that this is a legal requirement in Scotland: it ain't! When pointing out the correct legal situation (i.e. that hotel windows must not be openable widely, but that they can be arranged to be openable by an inch or so, as other hotels in Scotland do (!), I was then told that the IBIS has closed the windows for security reasons ... At that point I gave up on the conversation. 6 there is no proper reception: instead one is met in the middle of the entrance lobby by a staff member in a red shirt and a digital device to check in; 7 'security' is by card; after 23.00 there is only limited staff presence ... ETC!

Cons: They are not up front about several things. First there is no one at the place to handle problems. No desk, no phone number. Just email. Second, the only way to get in is by a terrible spiral stone staircase, so it is very hard to get large suitcases up. Third, when I made the reservation they immediately charged me and sent an email that I would be on the fourth floor. I made the reservation months in advance and I asked them to move me to a lower floor. They said they couldn't, but if they could it would cost 10 euros. Very hard to deal with. They also do not provide maid service unless you pay another 17 euros per day! Also no place to leave your luggage because its not a hotel. Finally, I have some serious concerns about the integrity of the apartments. The floors slope and there is serious signs of cracking and sag. At these prices, you are far better booking elsewhere!

Cons: The breakfast “buffet" was just okay, not worth paying extra for — it was unlimited but they ran out of basic things like cheese and yogurt early on and just had bread and cereals.

Pros: The room was quite large (triple). We had a kettle, tea, coffee sugar, milk etc which was replaced after use... hairdryer was also available in the bedroom as well as an iron. my kids watched a bit of TV (flat screen Samsung) a lot of towels for our use...The location couldn't be any better as we were literally within a couple of minutes to the train station and everything else. Breakfast buffet was splendid with a large variety of foods and drinks for adult and children. they also cater for gluten free customers. The temperature inside of the room was really warm and we had to turn the heating down. I like the fact that we didnt have to pass reception each time as the restaurant and rooms have another entrance. the neighbourhood is lovely and majestic.

Funny British ways about electricity - you have to put a hotel key in to a special reader inside the room to turn on the electricity in the room. They really don't want you to leave the lights on when you're not there, I guess.

Most things you could want were included on menu, and requests available for fresh poached eggs if required. Hotel is very close to Edinburgh Waverley station within a short walking distance. Staff were helpful if any other requests were made. Reception staff ordered taxi on request and supplied order number to await call for taxi while indoors.

Cons: Unfortunately we didn't have the view we had hoped for as our window faced the back of the building, seeing and hearing trolleys full of dirty laundry from early morning. The restaurant prices can be a bit high.

Cons: on my day of departure we are not required to leave the room till noon however the cleaning staff barged in about 10am. Im not sure why they are even trying to come in the room when we are departing that morning anyway. I was stood in the middle of the room in just a towel. This is really unacceptable - Whether they knocked or not - why are they trying to get into a room that we were entitled to saty in till noon.

Cons: We stayed in two different rooms. The second room had a bathroom that needed some work. It was clean, but some towel bars were showing rust, and the tile needed to be re-caulked.

Shower didn’t work because of ‘pressure issues’. The same ‘pressure issues’ also meant the the hot water failed to come out of the taps unless they were fully opened for at least five minutes and then it took a good 15 minutes to fill the shallow bath. The maintenance man said this was always an issue on the third floor particularly in the morning because everyone was using the water.
Husband had to rescue something from under the sagging couch and wish he’d left it there - disgustingly filthy and left us feeling queasy that we’d been in the same room as that level of filth. Probably not been moved since the 90’s...
Relative to other hotels it’s a cheaper option but not cheap enough - I’d have paid a bit more for a consistent hot water supply and a room that had been deep cleaned in the last decade.

Cons: Heating in room should have been set slightly higher to make room warm when we arrived. It took some time to heat up after we got to our room on first floor, on a cold wet afternoon. View out of our hotel window was of a digger and workmen with the associated noise. One of the lifts was broken.
