Pros: The staff was incredible. I had two pillows and my mattress was comfortable. I loved that I could leave my luggage there until 9:00 pm AFTER I checked out and could use the facilities. I LOVED all of the lounges, the cinema, the kitchen, the music room, it was a little paradise. Who can say that about a hostel? I can. I chose Castle Rock. The dancing on Wednesday made the trip and the bar crawl was unforgettable. The hostel was also SO clean. Thank you to everyone at the hostel who made this trip so amazing.

Cons: However, there is no lift so you have to lug everything out or down the stairs. Uber will not pickup on that street, though. You’d have to walk 2 blocks in either direction for a pickup.

Cons: I’m pretty positive my sheets were not changed before my arrival, I found multiple long black hairs in my bed (I have medium blonde hair). I didn’t say anything to the staff as I was only staying one night and didn’t want to bother with it. The bathrooms were quite dirty as well. The shower floors were dirty and the ceiling where the shower curtain hangs need to be deeply cleaned. Cheap cost but you get what you pay for.

Pros: We stayed at 10 Hill Place on the recommendation of a friend and we were not disappointed! The hotel is clean and comfortable and all the staff were really friendly, welcoming and helpful. The location is excellent - central but very quiet, being located down a side street. We walked or took the tram/bus everywhere during our visit. It's in walking distance to Holyrood and Arthur's Seat, the Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle, Princes Street...and you've got the Surgeons Hall Museums right on your doorstep! We enjoyed a lovely short break here and would definitely stay again.

Cons: We hate glass doors on bathroom/toilet. It makes the room feel like you have no privacy, and the opaque glass door means any late night, mid-night, and early morning use wakes the other occupant of the room as the light shines out.

Cons: 1. For a royal mile suite, main bathroom was standard. Overly spacious living room really could’ve spared space for a more comfortable bathroom befitting suite.
2. Website advertised kids eat free. However, when we ordered meals for the kids via room service, we were told it’s not free. Extremely deceptive and off putting of brand.
3. I emailed the hotel 1 week in advance of 4-day stay and asked for milk, orange juice, and water in room stocked and included room mini fridge. Email from customer service acknowledged request and even confirmed we still wanted wine and beer - a nice catch! However, when we arrived, we were informed juice and milk not included. False service promise should’ve not been made.
Room service food was Not worth price (pizza, burger, and kids chicken meal were only ok but far more expensive than eaterery options all around).

Cons: The facilities badly need to be upgraded. The building has nice bones but it is tattered and worn out. There was extensive mold growth in our bathroom window all up onto the ceiling. It looked like it had been painted over instead of remediated. The shower/tub drained very slowly and the water was lukewarm. The room did not feel clean and the carpets seemed dirty. Also the breakfast had lots to offer but it was not good quality. This hotel is very over- priced and I would not stay here again.

Cons: Rudeness of manager. We had called twice during the previous 2 days and were told that we did not have a reservation even with my name and confirmation number. When we went to hotel to check in they still could not find it but eventually found a card with it and when I asked how this could have happened I was told by the manager "what difference does it make as you now have a room"

They, were, without exception, very welcoming and made our break go brilliantly. Liked the choice of breakfast and the location close to the Royal Mile. Bathroom fine for two people and enough space for cases etc.
Cons: This is nothing to do with the hotel, but we found the drunken shouting late into the night by young men disturbing. This affected friends who stayed in other hotels too. The City Council and police should get that sorted.

Cons: A lot was terrible at this hotel. The absence of a doorman to help with your luggage upon arrival or to hail a cab was just awful. The parking garage is a few blocks away which is Extremely inconvenient. The staff was DREADFUL except the lad who we gave our key to as we left. The room was frigid and the heat was turned off each day. The lights are run by the room card inserted in a slot by the door. This sometimes worked ....most of the time it didn’t. We had to ask twice for them to clean the room. The room service menu needs better descriptions of the food. The club sandwich had the crust cut off and had a fried egg on it.... besides that it fell apart in your hands. Lol ! We were told breakfast went to 10:30 am but when we got there at 10:10 am they told us breakfast was over.... I literally pleaded that We we’re told breakfast went to 10:30.... we felt like they did us a favor feeding us!!! Every employee we met you felt like they could care less and were really not helpful. We met a couple who had been looking for their room for literally over an hour before we showed them where their room was. The elevator was always full of guests complaining. But the final straw was we went out to dinner and looked forward to eating the chocolates we received when we arrived but they were GONE. We called the desk to ask for another sack of chocolate..... it took hours and 3 phone calls . We expected to do laundry but with the awful service we decided not to risk it!!! At the heart of any hotel is the service and that is sadly missing at the Radisson Collective! This was by far the worst service of ANY hotel on our trip.

Open plan kitchen/dining/living room with 3 windows looking directly onto Royal Mile/Lawnmarket. All windows in the property are double glazed. Bathrooms have under floor heating. There is gas central heating. The property retains great period features; old stone fireplaces, exposed ancient stone walls; and yet provides all modern conveniences and striking decoration. Situated in the historic Old Town of Edinburgh, this is the best place to stay in the city. The Old Town is a World Heritage site. Steeped in history, packed with museums, visitor attractions, specialty shops, restaurants and pubs. Edinburgh castle is 1 minute walk from your front door. This area of the city has a real buzz and is a joy to explore. This apartment is however in a peaceful location late at night with no nightclubs or noisy pubs. Cons: The internet & 4g connectivity in the room was none existent. I tried all 3 WiFi codes in the room repeatedly & my own network & still had to go outside to get a decent connection. The shower head was broken & had been taped back into place meaning it didn’t really work anymore. New shower heads are very cheap to buy! The water pressure was also very weak meaning pretty unsatisfying showers throughout. The lighting in the bathroom was also really weak which made it dark in the early mornings & at night. Given the price I’d expect a little more attention to detail over things like lighting & the bathroom facilities.

Cons: They are not up front about several things. First there is no one at the place to handle problems. No desk, no phone number. Just email. Second, the only way to get in is by a terrible spiral stone staircase, so it is very hard to get large suitcases up. Third, when I made the reservation they immediately charged me and sent an email that I would be on the fourth floor. I made the reservation months in advance and I asked them to move me to a lower floor. They said they couldn't, but if they could it would cost 10 euros. Very hard to deal with. They also do not provide maid service unless you pay another 17 euros per day! Also no place to leave your luggage because its not a hotel. Finally, I have some serious concerns about the integrity of the apartments. The floors slope and there is serious signs of cracking and sag. At these prices, you are far better booking elsewhere!

Cons: Our room wasn't cleaned on our second day. When I sent a WhatsApp message (they don't use telephones in this hotel) a cleaner was sent but it was too late and not convenient as we were getting ready to go out. We did get a £10 voucher to use in the bar as an apology. The walls are so thin that when somebody walked past our room the bed shook! The hot items on the breakfast buffet were lukewarm and the orange juice ran out on the second morning.

Cons: Upon arrival we were greeted by a member of staff, who first could not find our booking and was adamant we hadn't booked. I am not fussed by this but her English was very poor and she was getting frustrated with us as we were telling her we were certain we had booked a room. I then showed her my email reservation which cleared that up. The total for the room was £365 for 3 nights. The woman then asked said to us the room would be £50, we then mentioned this wasn't right it was £365 on booking.com. She then went to her i-pad across the reception which was packed and there wasn't a proper desk either everyone was everywhere. She then came back and said the room was £115, again we had to correct her and show the email confirmation. She then went back to her ipad returned and finally agreed that we had to pay £365. We were paying cash DO NOT DO THIS pay by card always. My friend and I both counted out in front of her £182.50 to the exact figure. She then took the money went back to the small desk in the wall, again it was very crowded so we couldn't see her, returned and said we were £20 short! I then asked her to give us the money back to count it out again, she returned to the desk and brought the money back excluding the change of the £2.50 each which she tried to charge us for again by saying "you are actual £25 short" both my friend and I are not very confrontational people, we were also soaked, annoyed and just wanted to get to the room. So we paid the extra £20 after being firm in saying she hadn't brought the change of the £2.50 each back over and said we would be leaving a bad review to which she just turned away without giving us our keycard or telling us which room and were to go. We then had to approach her again and ask for this, she then pointed to the elevator and said that way? We then guessed we were on the 4th floor due to the number BUT you couldnt get to the 4th floor by simply pressing 4 in the elevator.

Cons: Very loud and noisy by a bar across the street until 3am from friday to saturday. (till 5 a.m. from saturday to sunday we learned) We couldn't sleep till the nois stopped. Staff said this is almost every weekend and they can't do anything about it. We got the offer to change the rooms but it was our last night at the hotel. Better ask for rooms that do not go out on the street. No possibility to open the window. Better ventilation for the bathroom would be good. Room could be a bit cleaner.

Cons: the party crawl is too loud for the whole night that I did not sleep for the whole night. I never have sleeping problem when I travel around and this is the first time. The bedsheet is dirty with hairs on it, I doubt if it has been washed.

Pros: This is a budget hostel, so it would be unfair to expect a five star hotel. And for the price I thought it was excellent. The location is perfect, the room clean and perfectly adequate with a nice en-suite shower room. The staff were super friendly and helpful - I left my Kindle behind somehow and they had kept it safe for me when I went to ask if they had seen it. There is a lift, which helped me as I had a hip problem at the time, and there is a storage room where you can leave your luggage before or after you check in/out. If you want you can pay for a secure locker, but the room is only occessed by means of a key for residents only.

A square cross-section means a flat surface to step on, which is far more comfortable than a round one. The mattress was comfortable. No innerspring mattresses in this hostel. The toilet and the shower are separated from one another.

Cons: The hostel is quite noisy with young people being a bit exuberant in the early hours, but this was not a great problem for me as I can sleep like a log anywhere. The room was small for three, with no chairs or TV but again that didn't bother me as I was there on my own (my friends couldn't come after all). It was also a bit cold, but once under the duvet, that was fine.

Cons: I missed a place to hang my jacket. Space was available. No ventilation in the shower and the toilet, only a few hooks to hang your towel instead of a bar, separated taps for hot and cold water (a plug for the sink was at hand, however), a locker would have been nice, not a single electrical socket in the room.

Shower didn’t work because of ‘pressure issues’. The same ‘pressure issues’ also meant the the hot water failed to come out of the taps unless they were fully opened for at least five minutes and then it took a good 15 minutes to fill the shallow bath. The maintenance man said this was always an issue on the third floor particularly in the morning because everyone was using the water.
Husband had to rescue something from under the sagging couch and wish he’d left it there - disgustingly filthy and left us feeling queasy that we’d been in the same room as that level of filth. Probably not been moved since the 90’s...
Relative to other hotels it’s a cheaper option but not cheap enough - I’d have paid a bit more for a consistent hot water supply and a room that had been deep cleaned in the last decade.
