Pros: I used work in this hotel many many years ago, it was a tough job because the manager had very high standards, so many years later to stay as a guest I can see those high standards are still there. It is the kind of hotel where they make all the guests feel they are special and deserve excellent service, it has always been like that, I cannot fault this hotel.

Pros: I told them I am severely asthmatic. When I walked into the room I immediately smelled musty old rug that was cleaned at least dozens of times and exhausted its useful life a long time ago. I went back to the front desk and told them needed a different room for medical reasons and willing to pay more. The front desk person and the day manager told me that they did not have availability without any serious they said no without any consideration and force me to sleep in this room where I ended up wheezing all night. They also lied to me that all the rooms were renovated at the same time and were the same. And it turns out that there were at least a few rooms available.

Cons: During our 3 night stay, I called each day twice to request a straightener and they never had one. It worked out fine, but it was offered on the card in the room. I was hoping there would be at least one day I could use it. Otherwise, great stay.

Place was spotless, comfortable, bigger than we had imagined and plenty of storage space. I wish we had stayed more than one night. Great for long stay travellers.

Cons: 1. For a royal mile suite, main bathroom was standard. Overly spacious living room really could’ve spared space for a more comfortable bathroom befitting suite.
2. Website advertised kids eat free. However, when we ordered meals for the kids via room service, we were told it’s not free. Extremely deceptive and off putting of brand.
3. I emailed the hotel 1 week in advance of 4-day stay and asked for milk, orange juice, and water in room stocked and included room mini fridge. Email from customer service acknowledged request and even confirmed we still wanted wine and beer - a nice catch! However, when we arrived, we were informed juice and milk not included. False service promise should’ve not been made.
Room service food was Not worth price (pizza, burger, and kids chicken meal were only ok but far more expensive than eaterery options all around).

Cons: Looking a bit tired. Desk in room had big scratch on it. Also, on a previous stay breakfast was on the top floor which was lovely. This time we were in the lower part of the ground floor restaurant. The continental breakfast choice was quite poor considering the price. The toast was merely warmed up bread and coffee wasn't particularly hot. My elderly parents in their 80s, who were also staying, were unable to shower as they couldn't get in or out of the very steep sided bath.

I travel alot internationally and truthfully feel that this was one of the best hotel experiences I've had in my life. Being that I do travel alot, it means the world when you can sleep peacefully in extreme comfort. From arrival to departure the George was a wonderful experience. I highly recommend it and will return there when in Edinburgh. A gentleman named " Willy" was a gem, very helpful. Thank You.

Cons: Breakfast- we were given bar vouchers as service had been poor. We had to ask housekeeping to make our rooms up twice - 4 pm not done. Didn’t leave tea, coffee etc had to request twice. Bathroom smelt of sewerage needed attention. Evening meal most of the main courses were not available at 8.00 pm.

Pros: The whole hotel experience at the George Hotel was completely faultless. The staff were incredibly helpful and welcoming. The rooms were spotless, warm and very comfortable. The breakfasts were delicious. The flight was cancelled on our return and had to stay at the George Hotel an extra night, the staff welcomed us back with mulled wine! Excellent stay, thank you.

Pros: From the minute I walked into the hotel I felt very welcomed. The staff were attentive and perfectly freindly and professional. I travel alot internationally and truthfully feel that this was one of the best hotel experiences I've had in my life. Being that I do travel alot, it means the world when you can sleep peacefully in extreme comfort. From arrival to departure the George was a wonderful experience. I highly recommend it and will return there when in Edinburgh. A gentleman named " Willy" was a gem, very helpful. Thank You.

Cons: Payment process was total disaster, as we were charged twice. When we were checking in, the staff member at reception was clearly a trainee as he was struggling to process our payment. When he asked what appeared to be his manager for assistance he was dismissed and we were told that the payment was OK. When we realized we had been overcharged we had to ask several employees repeatedly over the next 3 days to receive an explanation as to when and how we would be reimbursed. We spoke to several staff members over the weekend, and only one staff member apologized for the inconvenience.

Cons: We had a disabled bathroom and we are not disabled. We have had this booking made since February therefore feel that we should have been allocated a more appropriate room. The bathroom was very basic and was not as viewed in the photos.

Mattress on bed needs to be replaced as sagged in the middle , armchair showed signs of significant wear as did the curtains. Quite a small room which did not have a wardrobe, only a hanging rack. Breakfast was adequate but fruit juice was poor quality and croissants were not very fresh.

There are 12 beds in a bedroom that has space only for 6. The last bed almost touch the ceiling. Twelve people sleeping in a bedroom without any ventilation. We couldn't open any windows because they were hidden behind the beds. To noise at night with higher music from bars and cars beeping outside. It's almost impossible to find a place to park the car. Without any doubt it was the worst hostel I ever stayed. Please avoid it.

Cons: The bedroom, seen better in an old Travel lodge. Toilet had to be flushed 4 times, no lock or catch on toilet door. Only 1 bath sheet on towel rail, second one was hidden away in the wardrobe. Noise, on level 3, overlooking a single storey building with roof fans running 24 hrs. The location puts the price up , not the facilities. Bar prices expensive.

Cons: Check in I paid for a classic double room and yet when I checked in, they gave me a single room up in the rafters . This mistake was corrected swiftly . Bar I met my 4 friends in the bar for drinks . It was busy but there were plenty of empty tables at the edge of the bar . So we sat down . Then the waitress asked us to move because they were being set up for dinner . We had purchased our drinks by then so had to stand. Breakfast . despite having paid for breakfast , I had to do without because the queue for the hot buffet was at least 30 people long , snaking through the restaurant. This meant that the wait would’ve made me late for my 10am meeting in the lounge . Even though I arrived at 905am . I couldn’t even have a continental option as there were no cereal bowls , no bread for toasting . So I had coffee and a cold pancake .

Pros: Great price. Perfect location to walk with luggage from the train station (less than 5 minute walk) and close to a bus stop (less than 10 minute walk) to the airport. Incredibly helpful staff. Clean rooms, well furnished. So pleased.

Pros: Great location a couple minutes walk from waverly Station, and within walking distance of most visitor attractions. Only stayed 1 night, but rooms were clean and comfortable and staff were friendly. Would recommend for a short stay

Pros: breakfast was just ok. Mini croissants on first morning were not fresh. Rooms not available on arrival or at the 3pm check-in time. Receptionist had an attitude. Remainder of reception staff and all other staff were very helpful and pleasant. Great location.
Cons: Apart from one exception the staff were pleasant and helpful. Location is excellent. The lobby was cold and draughty. The rooms and décor are a bit dated. Breakfast was a little disappointing.

Pros: Location good, early check in, good breakfast.
Cons: Curtains hanging off the curtain rail and unable to close. Waited a long time in restaurant and drinks order was totally forgotton about when ordered with meal. View was stone wall. Noisy at night. No mattress topper on double bed. Music in restaurant appalling.

Pros: Right off the Royal Mile, this hotel couldn't be in a better place. Comfortable, clean rooms with great views.
Funny British ways about electricity - you have to put a hotel key in to a special reader inside the room to turn on the electricity in the room. They really don't want you to leave the lights on when you're not there, I guess.
Perfect spot for our stay.
Cons: We stayed in two different rooms. The second room had a bathroom that needed some work. It was clean, but some towel bars were showing rust, and the tile needed to be re-caulked.

Pros: The reception area looks swanky but it’s a fur coat and no underwear. Good location for Old and New town

Shower didn’t work because of ‘pressure issues’. The same ‘pressure issues’ also meant the the hot water failed to come out of the taps unless they were fully opened for at least five minutes and then it took a good 15 minutes to fill the shallow bath. The maintenance man said this was always an issue on the third floor particularly in the morning because everyone was using the water.
Husband had to rescue something from under the sagging couch and wish he’d left it there - disgustingly filthy and left us feeling queasy that we’d been in the same room as that level of filth. Probably not been moved since the 90’s...
Relative to other hotels it’s a cheaper option but not cheap enough - I’d have paid a bit more for a consistent hot water supply and a room that had been deep cleaned in the last decade.
