FAQs - booking Egypt flights

  • If I plan on travelling to the eastern part of Egypt, is there another airport alternative?

One alternative you can consider is to fly to the Ben Gurion Airport (TLV) in neighbouring Israel. From Canada and you will find one-stop flights from a huge selection of cities throughout the country, plus there are nonstop flights available from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) aboard Air Canada.

  • Which airlines offer the most direct flights between Canada and Egypt?

It should come as no surprise that EgyptAir offers nonstop flights to Egypt from Canada, with one of those occurring from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and arriving at Cairo International Airport (CAI). Between these two airport pairs, there is also a one-stop flight aboard Air Canada that has a layover at Zurich Airport (ZRH).

  • I want to travel to the Red Sea. Which airport should I fly into?

Hurghada International Airport (HRG) and Sharm EL Sheikh International Airport (SSH) are two of Egypt's busiest airports and are both popular gateways to many resort and dive spots on the Red Sea. If you are looking for one-stop flights to Egypt, you might find cheaper options to both of these airports with carriers such as Air Canada, EgyptAir and several other European airlines. The airport that you choose will mostly depend on your final destination within Egypt.

  • Do I need a visa to travel to Egypt?

Canadian citizens do need a visa in order to visit Egypt. While it is possible to get a visa upon arrival, it is strongly recommended that travellers apply for a tourist visa prior to their departure. Top tips for finding cheap flights to Egypt

  • Enter your preferred departure airport and travel dates into the search form above to unlock the latest Egypt flight deals.
  • Passengers travelling to Egypt with children should know that in this country, there are no specific car seat laws regarding children except for the fact that children under seven years of age cannot travel in the front seat of a vehicle. Because of that, it is important to check with any rental car company you plan on using to make sure they can rent you car seats, or you should plan on bringing your own.
  • For those travellers that would like to visit the Great Pyramid of Giza, you will find that this pyramid has a location just to the southwest of the city of Cairo. This makes the Cairo International Airport (CAI) the ideal airport for this destination.
  • If you are making a plan to travel to Egypt for Leylet en Nuktah which celebrates the rising water level of the Nile river in late June, any major population centre along the Nile river makes a good destination. For travellers looking to avoid the congestion of a big city like Cairo, another alternative might be the Assiut International Airport (ATZ) further south along the river.
  • While most resorts and high-end businesses accept credit cards, travellers should note that Egypt is still a predominantly cash-driven country, so it's advisable to travel with some cash. ATMs and exchange offices are widely available in cities and airports across Egypt.
  • If you are travelling to Egypt during Ramadan, it’s important to note that airfares might rise, especially in the week leading up to Eid al-Fitr. While most tourist sites remain open, there can be some changes to opening hours during this time.
  • To visit Elephantine Island, the ancient border city between Egypt and the lands of Nubia, you can fly into Aswan International Airport (ASW) which is located 16 km southwest of Aswan. From Aswan, you can get to Elephantine Island by ferry.
  • If you want to visit one of the beaches along the Mediterranean Sea, consider flying into Borg El Arab International Airport (HBE) near Alexandria. Due to its central location on the Mediterranean coast, you can reach many beaches near Alexandria and Marsa Matruh by bus or car.
  • Should you opt to obtain a visa upon arrival at an airport in Egypt, be aware that you can pay for it only in US dollars, British Pounds or Euros.

They charge me for luggage which is was included on the ticket

Good aorcraft 777 but Worst food ever Breakfast was a bû’with matonnaise… Staff was nice but invisible most of the flight

Business class in the second leg - CDG-EVN was a disaster.

Everything went smoothly with Air France. There was a delay in departure which seemed to relate to the immigration services being short staffed.

No bording was given for next trip on same carrier, food was very moderate.

We transited through Chad and what was supposed to be a 1hr 20 minutes transit time lasted over 4hrs. We didn't get regular updates until we complained. After a 10hr flight from Paris no form of refreshment given and finally arrived Abuja over 6hrs later and none of my bags came

The line at boarding was not well organized and managed

A couple of minor delays in boarding but very professional and efficient staff.

Crew was professional. Boarding has few seats . Since the plane was not full would have been nice to change seat on the internet

Je n'ai pas pû incliner mon siège et une des hôtesses ne comprenait pas ce que je disais. Je devais parler fort

I have been traveling for over 30 years, and this was THE worst experience ever. The guy that was checking in at Dubai, didn’t have any professionalism or curtesy. During the flight, You had to wait a while just to get something to drink. They didn’t transfer all my luggage, even after they made me pay $155 extra for one small gallon of Zamzam water, and that luggage is still missing after three days of my arrival. NEVER AGAIN..,

The flight was cancelled with very little info at the airport. Absolutely mess with no option to reschedule flights without paying fortune for business class.

Despite paying business class, the angle seat was uncomfortable. The crew was just ok. The baggage checkin was a mess at JNB.

The seats were broken, crew didn’t really care about service, boarding was not priority for business class, my bags arrived last

Comfortable flight with decent legroom and good seats. The crew were helpful and courteous and managed well with the stressful boarding and the chaos that’s involved. The food was decent, more than expected from a short flight like this. The only reservation I have was that the crew allowed passengers to board With massive amounts of hand luggage which were piled up on the empty seats next to passengers and and it was a risk to all passengers in the case of turbulence or emergency landing. I’ve never seen this ever on any flights I have boarded with many other airlines.

Flight was supposed to take off Saturday at noon. Bumped for unknown reasons until 2 am, then 9 am, then noon, then we don’t know. Not weather related. Dismal and non existent customer service. No 24/7 relations. Couldn’t get my bag back to attempt to get on another flight until 5pm Saturday. Will never take this airline again!

Greater clarity in organizing line-ups for the various boarding groups would have made it easier for all. Due to the many children, the announcements could not be heard clearly enough, so a simplicity in organization would have helped.

I had a great experience with EGYPTAIR. They offered me to check in my handbag which made it very easy since I use a cane. Thank you to EGYPTAIR crew for making sure everyone is receiving the right services.

Cons: "The food was very poor and tasteless , too much bread and it was cold. The choices of movies was poor."
Cons: "Neither departure terminal nor gate was displaying in the application even while refreshing it continuously. The information was available in schiphol airport website 3.5 hours before take-off time."

It was an excellent experience, traveling from Toronto to Denver with United.

Terrible experience! All flights delayed, staff had no idea of what they were doing, and at the end luggage lost for 2 days!

Ontime boarding. Almost 1 hour take off delay. We could have boarded slightly later since the pilots were in traffic

Flight was delayed, I had to put my luggage all the way in the back! They served only a beverage no snack on the way in Air Canada, definitely not a good first impression.

I go am isle seat because it was half empty Food strike no food available

I think Air Canada is the only airline I've flown where they don't give you at least a free cookie.

It was an enjoyable flight. I guess the airlines will never go back to catering, they save so much money.

It was a domestic flight so the food was not included. But we had not even a little snack and by the end of the flight they were coming around serving water.

My flight from Victoria was late taking off and then I was rebooked on a new flight from Vancouver to SFO without my knowledge the next day. I actually made it to the gate on time so I could have boarded my flight but Air Canada rebooked me instead. Completely unprofessional and unpleasant experience with no grace from the Air Canada staff. I will not fly Air Canada again

Flight was delayed, jeopardizing the following connections. Food was terrible. Crew was great.

Air Canada from Edmonton to Toronto was disappointing but Lufthansa from Toronto to Frankfurt was excellent.

I dropped my wallet under my seat on this flight with all of my money and credit card. I requested to be able to go back and retrieve it but Lufthansa denied my request. I went to the Customer Services and they called Lost and Found but I was told nothing found would be turned in until around 12:00pm. My next flight was leaving so I was unable to check to see if my wallet was turned in. I will never fly with Lufthansa again.

I ended up buying (for $340) "extra space" seats because I my flying partner was given a STY boarding pass, leading me to conclude that she was on standby and that we had to buy seats on the flight. I later learned that the flight was not sold out and that we could have gotten on as usual. To be honest, I felt swindled.

Didn't have bar code on our phone based boarding pass. People at the counter didn't notice. We walked to security, couldn't get through, had to go back to check in to get a paper boarding pass.

I'm Canadian. I have the unfortunate experience of pretty not having the choice to fly with them. THEY ARE TERRIBLE.

My baggage has been lost for the last 6 days! The problem originated at LAX with Lufthansa, which was a very big disappointment from LAX to Munich. The flight was delayed over an hour, the overhead bins on the window side are too small for most carryon's, the in-seat video screen were very poor as they would not respond to your touch quickly and would stop and start all over again, the earphone jacks are not like most standard ones, the seats still has wrappers and trash in pockets and on the seats. and there was no USB outlet to charge your phone or other devices. The German reputation for quality is bogus with this airline. BUT the responsibility for delivering my luggage became Air Dolomiti's as they were the last leg of the trip. The baggage area was chaos because several flights arrived at once. I took me over an hour to file a claim, the agent entered my info incorrectly, and the contact numbers for Lost and Found at the airport was never answered. I have never been called by Air Dolomiti or the baggage delivery company. I had to do all the calling. AD's live agents gave me two wrong phone numbers for the baggage company. When I finally got the right one on my third call, OF COURSE, no one answers and I still do not have any information on when my bags should arrive. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL operations by Lufthansa and Air Dolomiti. I will make sure I book any other air carriers on the rest of my flights to Italy this year.

It's good but not enough entertaining you have to have your iPad

One of the worst experiences. Some of the Staff was really unfriendly and rude. I was freezing and I asked for an extra blanket and one of the stewardess told me that it’s only one for each passenger and then I asked another one and thank God she gave me one. The food was very poor. They offered meal as soon as we took off and then nothing for 7-8 hours. Then they gave a tiny snack something like crackers and one hour before landing they gave us another snack.

Everything was fine except that the ground personnel in Toronto wasn't able to operate the jet bridge, so that everybody was stuck in the plane after landing for 40 min, so I missed my connection.

Turns out you cannot use the Lufthansa app to check I for flights bought from a 3rd party. Had to locate someone to ticket me in Frankfurt. I was not the only one. What a hassle.

Pretty good flights! If they can let y u s know regarding delays by announcing it in the PA system it would be a good business practice!

While I had a business class ticket I wasn’t given priority to boar. Again my luggage had priority tags and these bags didn’t come out till the end!! The food at the lounge was only two type of sandwiches and warm juices and soft drinks I thought I’m paying for good services but the least u can say it’s mediocre at best. I’m considering not to use TAM AGAIN.

3 hours late, came at my final destination without any of my luggage.

Really was disappointed in flying in business class starting from lounge which was the worst lounge every Flight almost 6 hours flight the airplane is sooooooo old not comfortable at all food was awful no tv seats was uncomfortable can’t even charge your phone to play any entertainment

Old planes that are not being maintained with at least basic cleaning. Plane smells awful, bathrooms not cleaned either. Very uncomfortable chair. Customer service probably one of the worst I have experienced. The AC dis not work, kept us on the plane for over an hour with no water and air condition

Old planes that are not being maintained with at least basic cleaning. Plane smells awful, bathrooms not cleaned either. Customer service probably one of the worst I have experienced.

when we ask for water or any help nobody care.. they are too arrogant

I thought it was great because the seats were really comfortable for the long flight. The food was just ok, and could have been a bit better.

Pros: "It got us to Casablanca. Should have taken a car though"
Cons: "The plane sat on the runway at over 100 F and the A/C was not on. They barely started it once we were in the air"
Pros: "Nothing to like aboie this flight , my worst night mare . They are all corrupted I was told to pay for the trip I already paid for. The plain had an engine failure, I could not reach Casablanca for my next flight"
Cons: "Refund!!!!"
