Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews
Pros: "Fast flight with no delays"
Cons: "Very old entertainment unit, slow touch screen, confusing interface. Very tight seats that were not very padded. Overall uncomfortable"
Pros: "As a professional musician, flying with my viola is one of the most nerve wracking experiences, as if it is forced to be checked due to insufficient room for overhead baggage, it could be completely destroyed. As stated in Air Canada's online policy, passengers traveling with musical instruments that fit as carry on baggage are allowed to change to earlier boarding zones. After approaching a staff member with my viola, I wasn't simply assigned an earlier zone, but rather I was allowed to board first. On this principle alone I will be flying Air Canada again. Thank you!!!"
Pros: "Loved the staff. Very friendly. Planes were clean and most of all, got to me my destination. On time!"
Cons: "The flight was delayed. Boarding was chaotic. Flight itself was choppy."

Cons: "I never received an e-mail to check in, and by the time I remembered (morning of), this resulted in me not having a seat assigned on my ticket. This caused a lot of needless stress, though to Air Canada's credit, they got all those waiting for a seat assignment on board. On my return trip, I did receive an e-mail - luckily, as the flight was overbooked again."
Pros: "Left on time, arrived on time."
Cons: "The airline failed to mention transit visa rules. Really poor customer service. Irrespective of what time of the day you call, the average wait time is 30 min. Who can wait for 30 min to receive his/her call. That's stupid for a premium air line. Even when someone answered they failed to provide a solution and were unsympathetic to my cause"
Pros: "Not much"
Cons: "The crew member wasnt letting me on my connecting flight which i was late for because of delays Air canada caused for the previous flight. Even though my connection was grounded for an additional hour. Worst airline ive ever been on."

Cons: "paying for extra seats was fine but our zone was the last to call. Maureen"
Pros: "Our flight was delayed about an hour and a half because of earlier delays in the day and the ground crew and pilot kept us fully informed of the situations as they evolved. Because of the timely updates I did not hear one person complain in my earshot range. Apart from the delay the service was great, as always."
Cons: "After paying for a business One-Way.. the flight was canceled abruptly without any forewarning. There was the a line of 50-75 ppl with one attendant working. It took me nearly 3 hours to get anyone's attention, and finally told i was 'lucky' to get on a flight the next morning, after missing a Wedding dinner. I was also forced to pay 2x cab rides to the airport. Thanks Air Canada"
Pros: "Leg room."

Cons: "They charged us 25 dollars for a carry on bag which was unfair. They didn't charge anyone else. When I came back I was not charged. I would like a refund. The people were very rude! I take that bag on trips weekly. I should have not been charged."
Pros: "Everyone was very nice"
Cons: "When I went to Check in there was alot of problems with the process on line By the time I was able to enter my information the session had timed out. It was so frustrating because I had to wait 51 minutes for an Air Canada representative to confirm I had checked in eventhough I didn't have my boarding pass on my I5 phone. I really like your planes and service providers, but your website is awful."
Cons: "The Toronto airport was ill-equipped for an international transfer. I barely made it despite a 90 minute layover. Air Canada was OK, not great."
Cons: "Very long line to get to security"
Pros: "Free snack"
Pros: "The fact that I was rebooked immediately to my new flight AC-DC 705 at 8:50 am by two wonderful ladies at La guardia airport who comforted then boarded me unto a flight due to the fact that I missed my original flight. This occured due to the Airport being Unorganized! As I had checked in well before 3 hours and was on time for my original flight at 8:30 am."
Cons: "The airport was extremely packed, Unorganized and not well staffed. What I hated is that when I arrived at my original gate A7 the gentleman who boarded my original flight was unprofessional, rude, basically ignored me and said "You missed your flight !" Not even taking the time to listen to my situation or guide me in my next steps of acquiring a new flight to go to my classes and home in Toronto!"
Pros: "Decent leg room"
Cons: "Everyone confused about the aisle seats. Took much longer to find proper row."
Pros: "The flight attendants was very curtesous."
Pros: "Flight staff is pretty good. People on the phone are generally good, as long as you don't mind waiting and hour, or two - three for a callback."
Cons: "Direct flight was delayed 3 hours and then two more times for a few hours and eventually cancelled from Toronto to Charlottetown due to flight staff (flight attendant called in sick so they cancelled the entire flight). So I was rebooked from my direct flight onto a connection the following evening in Montreal (which was expecting a winter storm). This was at 2 am so no more staff at the airport to even speak to. Had to call and ask for a call back which came at 4 am. The next day I got to the airport at 2 pm for my 5 pm flight to Montreal. It got delayed so I called air Canada and they booked me on an earlier flight. However it was too early and staff at the airport couldn't check me in as it was less than 45 minutes (facepalm). I was put on a later flight and got to Montreal okay. In Montreal my flight was delayed multiple times. Finally got on the plane but the ground staff was not around to get the place ready, pushed back, refused, etc. Waited 35 minutes on the plane before going to de-ice. Flight got 75% of the way to Charlottetown (almost over Moncton). It was a very turbulent flight. The pilot notified us we couldn't lanf in Charlottetown and were being diverted back to Montreal. So back to Montreal we went. On arriving back at Montreal we were notified to the flight attendants and again by the pilot that there would be people there go help us with rebooking. I still don't understand why they couldn't just get a new crew and fly us all back soemtime that day instead of having to all rebook, etc. This was at 1:30 AM. There was nobody waiting for us at the airport. I was automatically rebooked on a flight to Halifax that night and a morning flight go Charlottetown meaning I would have to stay another night and miss a second day of work. So, waiting in lineups until 4:30-5 AM in order to rebook a better flight back to Charlottetown. By this time I decided after spending much of the last 20 hours in airports or on a plane, that I would boom Moncton and just get a bus or drive home. Which I did, I booked Montreal to Moncton for 11 AM, paid for a bus and took that to Charlottetown. I arrived in Charlottetown at 5 PM Wednesday evening after "leaving toronto" at 11 PM Monday. Two cancelled flights, multiple delays, 5-6 rebooking, missed two days work, and lost a lot of sleep. No help from air Canada but hopefully they will cover the hotel for the first night as it was flight staff that caused the cancellation. All in all, if that attendant wasn't sick, or if air Canada had better solutions to this type of issue, I would have been home much earlier and with less stress. It really isn't fun being in an airport that long not knowing what is happening and how to get home."
Cons: "I was upset that my flight was cancelled one day before the flight day. I contacted Air Canada but they should have tried to contact me as soon as the cancellation."
Pros: "TVs in each head rest with movies."
Cons: "No communication or care. Sat on plane in Toronto for 4hrs - no offer of beverage or snack. To announce flight cancelled. 90% of flights going same location was cancelled from gate. No reason to assume our flight would have special us president clearance to fly. And doesn't take 4hrs to figure that out. Then was not giving any assistance or comms on new flight. When called told best chance is 2 days for flight and was not providing any hotel voucher. We ended up driving from Toronto to NYC. We were irate!!!!!"
Cons: "I had 21Inch suitcase. but who helped me check in staff , he said my suitcase looks littlebit big charge me seccond luggage fee $35.... my suitcase 21Inch..it is cabin size...even I didnt use extendingzipper, when I see other people suitcase same size with my suit case or more ticker what I got more mad is my new suitcase got scratched, cracked. I paid $35 . I got broken suitcase ..no reson to do that .it is firsttime I used that... also flight is delayed 2 hours both time .this is understand. .. but I stil got mad, don't understand that silly staff. I regret I couldn't complained and choose aircanada. Also he never smile to customers not kind at all seems doesn't wanna work. From that , Whenever take flight to short distance I will use westjet or other one."
Pros: "Great flight, service was excellent, will choose Air Canada for my next trip to the Orient!"
Cons: "WiFi wouldn’t process and no outlet’s for power. These work as standard on delta or JetBlue"
Pros: "There was room for 26+ standby passengers to board. Power outlets & more leg room in Economy Plus."
Cons: "No reclining! No screens, power outlets didn’t work well, not enough room for carryon baggage. No food other than pretzels. Drinks took a long time."
Pros: "Absolutely nothing."
Cons: "I missed my connecting flight due to delay and thus had to spend unneccessary money for a hotel, as well as an additional plane ticket to Cusco. Thanks for nothing."
Cons: "Worst airline and customer service in the world."
Pros: "free movies on the flight with the united app"
Cons: "The flight attendant was late delaying boarding 20 minutes. Once they started, people were lining up to board. This is a normal behavior however, there employee decided to stop boarding because she said people were crowding. she stop boarding for another 20 minutes. Now, this was a large flight and there wasn't enough room for everyone to stand off to the side. She was rude and there was no reason for this especially when the flight attendant was already late. The plane was delayed 45 minutes due to this"
Pros: "They got me out early, before expected storm."
Cons: "Refused to delay connecting flight in Denver even though severL of where already on ground in delayed flight coming into Denver. Albuquerque flght was still at gate when I got there, having run through airport along with several others. We were refused admission to plane despite delay being United's fault. Unacceptable! I will avoid flying United in the future whenever possible"
Pros: "Staff was friendly and helpful. Flight was smooth."
Pros: "The crew was friendly and efficient"
Cons: "Too many people, not enough room for luggage"
Cons: "O'Hare airport. Bad signage to economy parking."
Cons: "Bumped my head getting into the seat!!!!! The coffee machine was broken hence there was no coffee - this was a 10 am flight and the choice was a cool drink - Very poor."
Pros: "Great crew. Good communication."
Cons: "Lazy airline. Wouldn't tell me before hand whether or not flight was delayed or canceled. Waited until flight was invevitably delayed before were were told it was. Cost me a day. Lost work. Asked airline beforehand about conditions due to whether and was blown off like I was a dumb person who didn't matter."
Pros: "arrived on time despite delayed departure"
Pros: "Another flight was issued"
Cons: "My original flight schedule was cancelled"
Pros: "The staff was friendly and helpful. A young lady on my Houston to Austin flight helped me find my seat. A young man on my New York to Houston flight was very kind."
Cons: "1.5 hour delay!"
Pros: "I had a blood coat on my leg 2 months before my flight and the pain and swelling sometimes were unbearable, United was extremely accommodating, kind and courteous from the check in all the way to helping me retrieve my luggage in a wheel chair and that alone ease my pain, not having to do any extra effort was a huge relief on my legs. Definitely booking again with United and Kayak"
Cons: "TSA were less than basic, making me go up and down twice trough two different metal detectors and a body scan machine, then asking me to put both my hands above my head while standing up in the body scanner, a guy in a wheel chair who could only stand with a cane, these guys are barbaric but that's not the airlines fault."
Pros: "I liked that I made it to my destination in time and didn't miss connecting flight."
Cons: "What I didn't like it that I almost missed my connecting flight, and TSA decided to pick out my package for inspection and stole important items out of it. I am filing a claim"
Cons: "the stuffs were mean and helpless, your luggage fee was so high ,only give one checked bag for free, this is international airline and you charged the first for 100 dollars and the second one for 200dollars and you let me,a poor little girl felt lonely in the airport and found it nowhere to complain,I missed two flights in one day and the air attendant 's attitude were bad, this was the worst experience ever in my life,I won't recommend United airlines to any of my friends"
Pros: "Staff was very nice"
Cons: "Two flights, two delays."
Pros: "Flights took off and landed on time."
Cons: "Flight home was moved an hour early when I checked in. Gate attendant offered me a $500 voucher for taking the next flight...and then ended up putting me on the early flight anyway and gate checking my luggage. I really wish I got both the voucher AND to hold onto my carry-on. And then, leg room on that flight was so bad. I am only 6ft tall and was squished in like a sardine."
Pros: "The pilots at the front were friendly as we departed, thanking the passengers."
Cons: "The line up process at LaGuardia was unorganized based on the preassigned number boarding system. There was no space to organize 1-5 as assigned on the boarding passes. Going and coming from LaGuardia, the flight gate was changed multiple times, then there was at least an hour and a half delay on the ground and an hour in the plane. We had to reroute to Neward because of air traffic situations, but the ground crew was not ready nor efficient in helping the throngs of people find transportation or understand the process The crew was sour, and when simply asked for a spoon, the guy said, "later" and of course, he never brought one. There was no friendliness or cordiality from these people. We were like cattle to them. I have never seen it so bad. I have watched what used to be a great airline with Continental, decline to a consistently subpar experience with United. I will look for other airlines to fly in the future. My experiences with Southwest have been much better in the last two years."
Pros: "left on time without fanfare."
Cons: "internet was weak."
Pros: "I arrived safe and sound. A United ticket clerk at Chicago O'Hare was super nice but didn't really help my situation. I appreciated her effort and warm demeanor."
Cons: "After booking the flight I noticed that there was a 25 minute window between the time my flight was scheduled to land in my connecting city and the departure time of my connecting flight. Aware that most airline close the gate door and the flight 10 to 15 minutes before take off and the fact that it takes about 15 minutes to get off a flight after the aircraft door open, I was sure that this would be a problem. Also if I then had to change terminals that would be another 20 minutes. Long story short, I thought this was poor customer service on United's side. I called united the day before my flight and customer service rep assured me that it would be the same terminal and that these times are customary on the part of United. I then also mentioned this at the gate as well and talked to a very kind Flight Attendant. Everyone worked to put me at easy about this. My flight left 20 minutes late but made the time up while in the air. We landed I got off the flight in record time and asked a gate attendant to check my flight status. The flight and gate had been closed. They then had be go talk with a very kind woman at the customer service desk. She then moved me to a AA flight. She said "now the fate closes in 10 minutes so you probably won't make it but run". "You've got to be kidding me" i thought but she was so nice so I didn't question it... But I RAN!!! I didn't make it and AA customer service rep put me on the last flight out. I say in the airport for an extra 4 hours and ate lots of food I'm sure is slowly killing me as we speak. Happy to be safe and at home."
Pros: "Checking in at ticket counter was easy, service was accomdating for mom w disability. Love the option abt free ck bag for carryon. Very happy with change of flight option when original lay over was canceled. Love the text message update"
Cons: "I was forced to check my carry on due to lack of overhead space. Scarce food selection Forced checked carry on turned up scratched/damaged"
Cons: "Flight was delayed which would cause me to miss my connecting flight. The agent on the phone changed my itinerary but sent me to the wrong airport. By the time I got there, there wasn't any other flights that I could take so I ended up having to take a connecting flight the next day. I wanted a hotel voucher but was sent running around to no avail. There was no compensation of any sort and the agents were helpless"
Pros: "We had a safe flight"
Cons: "My first flight was delayed by an hour and 20 min. I arrived at Dallas for my connector to Austin, 25 min before my departure time. I could have made it, however, the plane taxi'd at the gate for at least 10 min, then the door wouldn't open. When I finally got off, I sprinted to my next gate, thinking they may hold it for a few minutes as there were many people connecting on that flight to Austin, but instead they did the opposite. When I arrived there were other people waiting who had arrived 10 min before the departure time (also from a delayed flight) and the doors were already closed. There was no representative at the gate to even tell us this, until we had waited over 10 min, and when he arrived, he said the doors were closed, and all of us were too late. Why would you close the doors early, knowing that other connectors were coming in. Additionally, on my return trip, my flight was cancelled, and I never received a reason for its cancellation, just an automatic rebooking that put me back in New York a day late. I had to be on the phone for an hour, rebooking a flight that United didn’t have. They instead put me on an American airlines flight last minute that I barely made. This wouldn’t have been so bad if this wasn’t the second time this exact scenario occurred within two months, when my siblings attempted to return home for the Christmas holidays. United is terrible."
Cons: "Delayed four hours."
Cons: "There was no entertainment"
Pros: "Boarding process was quick and easy"
Cons: "Flight was delayed which result in me barely making my connecting flight"
Pros: "I had to cancel the flight but they did not help me to make another reservation without charging $200 extra even thou I had dr. letter."
Cons: "The boarding process took forever, plane was delayed, crew was unfriendly while stuck on runway for at least an hour, plane was very uncomfortable and dirty. ONE flight attendant was sweet and brought water, the rest treated us like we were school children and not customers!"
Pros: "Had to switch airports from Laguardia to newark. Terrible & stressful"
Pros: "Flight was quick and on time!"
Cons: "Nothing just the usual discomfort of flying not United's fault"
Pros: "Everything about the flight! I loved it! Short yet great"
Cons: "Flight was 2 hours delayed. In bound flight very late."
Pros: "The crew was helpful & friendly. The seat was comfortable. Love the free WiFi... Next time kindly serve some free snacks."
Pros: "Friendly service"
Cons: "Flight left early, missed connection!"
Pros: "The price for round trip fare was the cheapest 1400 miles I've flown. On my way to a funeral, and I needed the savings."
Cons: "After two hours of delays, we were told we were better off transferring to another flight, in another terminal, by another airline. only available time was 5+ hours after the expected departure of the original flight. The original flight ended up departin 1.5 hours prior to the flight we were transferred to."
Pros: "Absolutely nothing."
Cons: "- 4+ hour delay - Poor communication between gate agents, online and onsite staff with conflicting and incomplete updates. - United should have just canceled the flight instead of perpetually delaying it. - Alternate flights suggested by staff were 4 hours later. I had to push for other carrier flights. I had to push for gate agent to explore partners at other terminal easy to navigate to at LGA. - At the core a mechanical issue that could have been screened for during routing maintenance. - Channels for getting credit cumbersome and timely. Why can't a gate agent or representative on 800# issue a credit?"
Pros: "Flight was as expected and on time."
Cons: "Food was kinda snacky and lame."
Pros: "Had no problem connecting to my next flight, which was only a few gates down"
Cons: "Was told I HAD to check my bag and pay the luggage fee, only to board the plane with several other passengers carrying the same size bag as mine and storing them in the overhead compartments!"
Pros: "The help I got from one of your reps after calling was good after I made sure she knew I needed to be there on time. First I felt like she was low balling me and offering shitty options, then she got more helpful when I showed some anger.. Don't think that should be necessary!"
Cons: "The help I got from one of your reps after calling was good after I made sure she knew I needed to be there on time. First I felt like she was low balling me and offering shitty options, then she got more helpful when I showed some anger.. Don't think that should be necessary!"
Cons: "United Airlines gave away my seat without my permission. They gave it to keep a family together, which was ok except they never asked me if it was ok. Even when I got my ticket scanned right before boarding, no one told me about the change. I think the crew singled me out purely because I'm Asian so they thought I wouldn't say anything. They also gave away my aisle seat so I had to sit in a more crammed row and window seat. No compensation was offered, boarding took forever, and I had to check in my bag because they ran out of overhead compartment room. This was a horrid experience."
Cons: "Flight was an hour late and I missed my connecting flight. Luckily I was able to get a flight the same night, others had to get a hotel at their own expense since United claimed the lateness was a result of air traffic controllers. But we left late because the plane arrived late in Laguardia. I don't see how both the plane arriving to Laguardia late and departing from Laguardia late is due to air traffic controllers. No entertainment for a cross country flight and the entertainment from united wifi wouldn't work as well."
Pros: "The crew at the gate was extremely helpful. I arrived at the airport early and was allowed to catch an earlier flight home on standby."
Cons: "Passengers filled the overhead compartments with small items that could have been placed under the seats. Many people had to check their bags at the gate."
