Your guide to booking Auckland flights

From booking to airport arrival, find tips to help you plan your flight with more confidence.
  • For the best chance at a low fare to Auckland, aim to book around 26 weeks before you fly. That window historically saves about 24% versus last-minute pricing based on KAYAK booking data over the last 12 months.
  • For flights to Auckland, recent KAYAK data shows that stronger deals tend to land around C$ 1,615 round-trip. If you see a fare below that threshold, it's a strong deal – book before the price climbs back up.

  • Before you book:

    • Check the route's typical price range so you can spot a deal.
    • Confirm baggage fees and seat selection costs on budget carriers.
    • Verify whether you need any travel documents beyond an ID.
    • Pick a departure airport, since your nearest may not be the cheapest origin.
  • Shift your departure to evening to save up to C$ 265 per round-trip. Evening flights to Auckland average C$ 1,856 compared to C$ 2,121 for noon flights. See the time-of-day chart above for the full breakdown.

  • Once you arrive in Auckland, a few great places to start are Viaduct Harbour, Skycity Auckland, and Aotea Centre. These are popular with first-time visitors and can give you a good feel for the area.
  • Auckland Airport is both the largest and the busiest airport in New Zealand, and so it’s the primary destination for flights to Auckland. The passenger hub is located near Mangere, about 21 kilometers from Auckland’s city centre, and is used for both international and domestic flights.
  • As the largest in the country, Auckland Airport offers a wide range of options for people passing through its doors, providing them with the best possible experience. Auckland Airport includes a number of lounges, some linked to a specific airline and others working on a pay-per-use basis to welcome all passengers. These lounges include amenities like comfortable seating, complimentary newspapers and magazines, and snacks and drinks.

Very friendly airline staff 👍👍 Please consider offering some premium snacks (e.g., mixed nuts) in for the 5-hour flight in addition to the breakfast service.

Ticketing said dinner for the almost 14 hour flight and we were delayed an hour. However, onboard we were only served a sluce if pizza bread and a cookie. Not at all dinner and insufficient for a long international flight. Breakfast was good.

.very good and as I needed wheelchair assistance all staff excellent.. only suggestion is get rid of those plastic chairs hard to ride in and staff have trouble compared to others. Everything else very good experience. Will use Fiji Air again.

See previous comments. Didn’t take this flight because my other flight was so delayed. Ending up on two other flights as a result and was more than a day late.

Really liked the plane and business class seat. Food was ok but could be better. Service was very good.

Fiji Business Class was value for money. Would do again for a long haul flight.

1.5Hrs to get from plane into terminal. Long wait. Flight to NZ 1 he late

Flight full. 'Volunteers' to check hand luggage. Checked hand luggage is lost

Staff was very helpful, polite, efficient. Food was excellent. Business class seat very comfortable.

It was not at all clear when purchasing the tickets that checked baggage was not included and cost $540 per bag. That’s unacceptable. I see it was clear if booking direct through the airline and a different economy ticket could have been purchased that included baggage. Kayak linked to flight centre where it was not clear though and there was no option to purchase the baggage inclusive economy version.

I like Air NZ, but rather old plane seating in Premium Economy. Not very comfortable , nor very roomy.

More comfortable seats. Even after an hour of travel, they are very hard to sit on. Enforce the amount of stuff that travellers can carry on. Some have up to three bags and take over other passengers' overhead locker space.

Crew members are so courteous and easy to talk to. My flight ticket was expensive from Chicago to Rotorua at $2800 usd. Everything else is very nice!

We got to experience Premium Economy from Sydney to Auckland and it was a great experience wiht Air New Zealand. The crew was friendly and helpful.

Great first time experience with ANZ. Such a great customer service. The crew was very friendly and welcoming

Great airline service by the staff. I highly recommend it

Great service. Food could be improved but overall a very good airline

All good, except entertainment system could have been better. More choices.

Good and appreciate the effort Air Zealand puts into using more environmentally friendly food containers and utensils. yay! One of the better airlines for this for sure. Still some bad stuff, but at least Air NZ is trying. :) Also really enjoyed the bluetooth option for personal headsets. :)

Food was not good. We asked for Muslim food and it was weird tasteless type of boiled veges.

Delta was great because the flight was almost 5 hours so I had access to tons of movies news, etc. so it helped past the time by no other plane WestJet did not have movies so Delta was the best

I am ina wheelchair and the gate agent knew exactly what to do when boarding just the the one of the flight attendants

This was a West Jet leg and was basically on time. Everybody was helpful and kind.

20 year old 737 but really poor service from the flight attendants who must have been new.

Round trip flight to Canada and back to the US was smooth and efficient.

It was beautiful easy and smooth experience. Thank you. Will definitely get Delta for my next travel.

After I checked in, I realized we had no seat assignment. It said they would be assigned at the gate. This was really frustrating because I usually use a lounge before flights, but I couldn't because I had to be at the gate to ensure we got our seat assignments. The gate agent arrived an hour before the flight left. I was the first one up to ask about seat assignments. She told us to wait for names to be called. Dozens of other passengers were paged, but we were not. Finally, I asked my husband to ask. He went up and was also told to wait. About 10 minutes later, they called for boarding. We still had not been told our seats. We went back to the desk and they were in a panic, saying we actually weren't on that flight. Then they made an announcement telling the stand by passengers to not board (in case we needed their seats). It was so stressful and unprofessional. Finally they gave us our seats. I have no idea what happened and why the two desk agents seemed to have conflicting ideas about our seats, whether we were on that flight etc.

Very dissatisfied with the fact that I had upgraded to first class for the second part of my trip only to find out that the lounge was still not available to me, as well as not having any food or drink service on the flight due to weather, so I lost out more than what I paid for.

Delta cancelled my flight less than 24 hours before departure and provided no alternative options. Left me to fend for myself basically. Scrambled to book flight on another airline and paid a fortune to do so last minute.. Can’t wait to see how Delta deals with my refund.

Overall it was not that bad! The delay on the second leg to Indianapolis , was really unexpected!!

Boarding was a complete mess. The whole system went down. People got wrong seat for the first half an hour.

The website check in was poor. Baggage fees were in US dollars but registered in Canadian dollars. The site would not accept my credit card. Scanning the passport was the worst. Someone from United needs to try the process. I’m not a novice with tech and I have to say this was a bad experience. Everything else was great.

We boarded the plane and were about to take off when we were notified that the tires had to be checked. Upon inspection, they were found to need replacement, so the entire plane had to be deboarded. After we exited the plane, United staff forced us to stay in the gate area by posting "Do Not Exit" signs on the doors connecting the gate area to the terminal. Many of us had already rebooked our flights and had no checked bags, but they told us we could not leave. This seemed inappropriate to hold people under false pretenses. When the agent told us we could leave, I asked them to please take down the "Do Not Exit" signs, as they were misleading. The agent refused, and I told them that it didn't feel right to hold people like that.

Friendly crew, but we were delayed for more than an hour and had to change planes due to maintenance issues.

Prefer not to have an almost 3 hour delay with useless communication that wasn't accurate.

Boarding was smooth and efficient. The only food was some pretzels, but it was a short flight. Not much to order if you were hungry.

Crew were welcoming, accommodating and they worked hard to find places for all carry on.

Seats very comfortable; service efficient and pleasant; flight was on-time; boarding organized.

Starlink is great Crew was polite Business class didn’t get a welcome drink just water and snacks were ok

Not a fan of the diagonal partially enclosed business class seats or how they have to be converted to beds manually by crew. I prefer more isolation and user control for switching to lie flat.

Exorbitantly overpriced ticket. Flight was delayed as per usual with air Canada and there was zero refund or compensation.

Flight delay due to staff shortage. No snack or drinks served. Toilets had water collecting on the floor.

The help at check-in area was excellent! The crew on board was great and the legroom and entertainment is excellent!

Flight was delayed due to crew/co-pilot change over delay and Pearson scheduling issue. Flight didn't leave until 20:05 which was 15 minutes before it was supposed to land in YYZ.

Snacks and drinks should be served together and air hostess was not supportive with no smile which was kind of disappointing.

Because you didn't have the tarmac clear and then had to unboard a plane I missed my connecting flight to CLE. Cost me a day ... a 30 dollar hotel hamburger ... then the next day THAT flight was an hour late to arrive ...

First of all the flight departing from Deer Lake was delayed for 4 hours due to a problem with the plane. Secondly, I am 6ft 2 inches tall, which is not that tall nowadays, but I had no leg room despite having nothing under the seat in front of me. When the person in front of me reclined his seat just a little bit I could not lower my tray all of the way; it rested on my knee not in a horizontal position. Thirdly, I am tired of Air Canada not reinforcing carry on baggage sizes. On the outgoing flight from Toronto to Deer Lake we had trouble finding space in the overhead bins. Some people were putting luggage in them that were definitely larger than carry on size. Airlines should have all carry on luggage checked (using those gadgets designed for that) before one enters security perhaps at the baggage checking counters. Having it there won’t delay boarding and will put the onus on people to follow the luggage size limits.

it was by far the worst business class experience i've had. the food was awful, the staff was worthless and lazy, the drinks were warm, no blankets. dirty bathroom.

This was an Air New Zealand flight. All went very smoothly even during the busy Christmas travel period. Thank you!

The flight attendants were friendly. The food was ok, but the wine was cheap. I was disappointed!
