Cons: "The temperature in the cabin was way too cold. People we wearing their jackets and when I mentioned it to the cabin crew member she said a few other people would have to make a similar comment before she could request turning the temperature up. There was also a glitch in the system so that the reading lights for each seat could only be operated by the seat directly in front. The food was very uninspiring and poorly presented. The tea and coffee were awful!!!!!! The choice of movies,etc was very limited. Thank goodness it was a night flight and not too long!"

Cons: "Real nightmare as I had booked YUL-LYS-BRU with Brussels Airlines (SN). YUL-LYS was operated with Air Canada. Came within 4 minutes of missing flight despite being at airport 3 hrs early. SN had not released ticket to Air Canada so they could not check me in. Had to call SN customer service after AC could not check me in, then wait and wait as they had to try to correct the mistake 3x before AC counter could issue boarding passes. Terrible experience going through this with 2 small kids waiting. It’s as if the two airlines’ systems don’t communicate but passenger is responsible for resolving."

Cons: "I want to seriously complain about Air Canada and Kayak booking systems. I reserved the tickets to Shanghai but there were no place reminding me that I need Canadian VISA to connect flights between two Canadian cities. I am a Chinese citizen who is working at USA and not allowed to change flights in Canada based on the newest government rules. However, in both booking systems, there is no reminders. In my opinion, either Kayak or Air Canada can add a simple checkbox to let the potential guest choose his or her nationality status, then this kind of trouble can be mitigated. We talked and called Air Canada people but no buying. They kept saying this is our responsibility. We bought United Airline tickets at the last minutes and cost us about $2,400 because we cannot wait to get back China to prepare our wedding ceremony and US Visa interview. We are very very disappointed with Air Canada and will keep complaining about this issue. As a service supplier, how cannot you think on behalf of a customer? The air company definitely knows more about government rules than a customer. We did have mistakes of not researching government rules. However, the biggest mistake was we trusted Air Canada and Kayak who we thought had taken care of those kind of issues for us. Thanks."

They are new and have touchscreens that are actually well designed and can scroll etc. Resolution and sound are great, so I actually feel like I watched my movie and didn't just look at moving blurs with half the dialogue missing. Other airlines give two meals. It's ridiculous that Air Canada insists on being so stingy with the food."

Next she refused to let me take my carry on bag saying it was too large even though it fit on all flights to Montreal. Once I proved it would fit with the luggage sizer she had moved on to another customer and ignored me for 10 minutes while I stood there even though my boarding passes were printed. When I got to the flight, I found it could have been gate checked but there was no need as the flight was NOT FULL and my bag fit with no problem at all in the overhead bins. In 35 years of flying this was the worst experience I've ever had."

Cons: "Our flight was delayed three hours. My flight and one other were the last to leave that night. There were no TVs on this flight. The only way to watch movies was on a smart phone or electronic device through their app. My poor old fashioned dad, didn't bring his phone so he would have just sat there for seven and a half hours if I didn't let him borrow mine. AirCanada's alternative is to rent an iPad from them, just another way for airline companies to get money out of us. The movie choices on their app were bad and older. International flights usually have new movies to so it is less likely passengers have seen them already."
Cons: "Extreme delays on my return flight which made me miss my connection and get rebooked on another flight for the next day. We were delayed on departure, then on the tarmac, then in the air, and finally when getting off the plane. I am glad that I was rebooked and was given a hotel to stay at, but I did not like the way I was treated by Air Canada staff at customs. I passed through customs only to be sent back into Canada after having crossed through security because the staff decided to close. We were told by other staff members that it was up to them to decide when they were done and to talk them. I ran through the whole airport with about 7 other people to make it. Why make us cross through security only to send us back? There was no one there to guide us on what to do. I had to go through the whole thing again the following day only to have my face cream taken away (it is technically cream, not a liquid) and then be detained. None of this happened AT ALL the day before. I'd give more details but it was a complete mess."

Terrible food: a slice of oily cske, served in a plastic sleeve, must be the new low for an international breakfast...no individual tvs on the sets....hello, step into the 21st century.... And the selection available via your iPad or laptop and their wifi was small, and old...we had paid to upgrade our economy tickets to the next level, and we expected more...the size of the upgraded seats was not great and there wa no foot rest to put your feet on, which is a significant help to someone who flies so many hours and can assist with circulation...."
Cons: "Tough to have a long-haul flight without functioning seat-back entertainment. Mine never worked. Asked three times about it - three times the system was "rebooted" - to no avail. I told each subsequent flight attendant that it had already been reset - they just "tried" it again. Very frustrating over the course of several hours. No one ever checked to see whether their re-set actually worked. Also, not sure why the window seats now have an arm rest on the window side of the seat - seriously interferes with passenger comfort when trying to sleep."

I Even though I made it through Customs in the shortest time possible, and back through security, I still managed to narrowly make my second flight. They were final-calling my name and actually taking off earlier than expected. Had I been 2 more minutes late, my flight would probably have taken off. I didn't check any bags either, so had I checked one, I don't think I would have made my second flight."

Cons: "One man wanted me to check an empty carry on bag I travel for 10 years with this high quality foldable carry on bag, it is a tight in their test cradle because of the wheels but it does fit. Even a passanger offer me is support telling the agent he was not reasonable after getting the bag in and out 4 times he still wanted me to check the bag in ? After 10 min arguments he said ok put it on the floor ! I could of put 2 of my foldable bag on the top storage if I had 2.... it was a connecting from same airline a much smaller plane which accepeted the bag . Very unpleasant ! Some people like to feel in power."

My bag was delivered later then the promised time, it was also returned damaged. It is now almost one week since I have taken my flight and I am unable to process a claim because they have not updated my file via their Bag Tracer program. It is clear that they still have a lot of work to do to be considered a real commercial air line company"
Cons: "Vancouver B.C. customs routing and clearance long (distance), slow (we nearly missed our PDX flight). Once in PDX, the baggage handler dropped my wifes bag in a puddle and left it there for a full five minutes. Not the type of air travel we are used to."

Cons: "I didn't like that they either started boarding too early or we waited a long time to get off the runway as it seemed we were on the plane a long time before we actually left. Also we just received our snack and our drink and as soon as we received them, a stewardess told us to all put our tables up and I do believe that it was because we were descending to land. It seemed like forever before we received our snack and then we're told we couldn't use our tables. I think they should have started the snacks earlier as it was quite a big plane and it probably would take quite a long time to serve everyone and the worst part of it all was that I had asked for a can of pop, so I had to hold my can of pop, my glass pop and try to get my snack out of the package which was not easy at all."

Cons: "A male flight attendant was unwelcoming when I finally got to the plane (being late was not my fault). Did not want to help looking for a spot for my normal size carry on. When I pointed out one above him, he left my bag there and just walked away. I am 69 years old, 5'1"."
Cons: "previous flight was late so we had to be rebooked. The line was insane with 3 agents. The 3rd said go to the other 2 lines. The second went on break leaving one agent. A manager came down and gave the sorry here is our corporate email speech to two girls in line but left without acknowledging all the rest of us waiting. It was a mess. When I got my ticket she was like here you go without explaining anything or a sorry. When I asked for a few details like am I in a hotel overnight or when do I leave she gave me an eye roll. When I got to the plane after traveling all day and waiting extra hours there was an empty row right in front of me. I tried to lay down but the attendant made me move because I hadn't booked comfort plus even though the flight I booked I would have been in Denver hours ago. Things happen but it's all how you deal with it and air canada does not deal well."
Cons: "On the way back from Quebec City to Montreal we were asked to check our carry-ons as luggage, because "there is no room' on the plane. It was an empty flight. ALL overhead compartments were empty. Both flights - Quebec to Montreal and Montreal San Francisco were late. As the result, we have to spend 1.5 hours in the baggage claim area, because "there are no baggage agents in SFO available". THAT WAS THE WHOLE REASON WE ONLY HAD CARRY-ONS! By far, one of the worst flight experience in the last 10 year."

Cons: "Please read previous comments (copied and pasted below) I should never have been sold the flight. The connecting time was too short - even under normal circumstances without delay I was told that I had a solid chance of missing the flight. Furthermore, once I finally made it into Montreal for my connecting flight, no one did anything to expedite my experience. They tried to get me to my final destination 24 hours after I was supposed to be there - they had a packet of accommodations for hotel and flight already prepped (mind you, I had only missing my flight by 10 minutes so clearly my seat was sold to someone else), and they didn't want to accommodate me in any other way. Explaining that I was meeting a friend who had taken another flight, I was told that the problem was not his and there was nothing I could do. Even though I found flights on Kayak and on Air Canada site for an alternate flight getting me out to Europe a few hours later, I was told "no can do." I asked him to speak to a manager and suddenly he was on the phone and (successfully) accomodating me. BUT. The flight was a connecting flight (connection in Rome to final destination Barcelona) - and he hadn't booked me the Rome to Barcelona portion. i was told - "go see the stand in Rome and they will have your ticket ready to go." They didn't have anything on their record but did tell me that this flight should not have been booked for me without having a ticket for my final destination. This was a hellish experience and I will be writing reviews and contacting Air Canada further to discuss this whole process."

Cons: "I missed my connection in Montreal because the flight was 2 hours late to get in and Air Canada staff in Lyon had told me I did not need to get my luggage in Montreal but only in Toronto to go through US custom ... which was not true. The airport staff in Montreal was absolutely unhelpful and sent me in 10 different directions. I was finally rebooked for a later flight, and the person there was finally very nice and helpful."
Cons: "Not serving a meal on a 5 1/2 hour transcontinental flight is unacceptable. Just because you can get away with it doesn't make it good policy."

Ground crew not well trained.No boarding pass was given (which is fine). 1 hour wait because of power failure at the airport in Montreal and then we are about to take off and there was an engine failure so we had to come back again . Not good stuff!!!! How would you feel flying again air canada?"
Cons: "On the Montreal-Athens leg the meal was free but of poor quality and quantity. Breakfast was just a piece of banana bread... No entertainment system in the aircraft. Had to rent iPad with very poor quality earphones (struggled to listen to the movies) Also some of the movies were not adjusted for the iPad which translated into using only a portion of the iPad screen."

Traveling back to SFO the counter person made us pay to check a bag, even though we knew if we went to the gate, they would take it. This was not good or consistent. We will not fly on Air Canada"

Cons: "The flight was quite late. I was traveling alone with 3 kids and asked the attendant if he could help us get off early and/or find out at which gate our connecting flight was located. His response, "most people on here have connecting flights." We were unable to board the next flight despite running to get there with time to board, as "our suitcases would not make it." I feel the staff made no effort. At least 12 others also missed this connection and the very small plane could easily have been delayed to load the suitcases."

Pros: "One of the crew went above and beyond. I ordered a vegetarian hindu meal but somehow was not on the list. Luckily one of the meal options was vegetarian. However he came back to get my information and sent a message to Zurich so that I would be sure to have the meal on my return flight. I thought that was really thoughtful and kind! I do not know his name but he worked in that included row 25 on the A side and I would have loved to be able to mention his name so that he gets a great review. Economy seats we very comfortable for me."

They barely had time to pass out the meal, take away trays and then prepare everyone for landing. The whole crew seemed stressed out and the whole thing seemed a little unnecessary."

The second flight does not wait for the connections and there is no plan for the predictably stranded passengers. The airport is littered with stranded travelers. Alternate routings often involve transit Visas which take some eight hours of queuing up. In the meantime, business and economy travelers alike are stranded without food, water or information in a BITTERLY cold terminal. There is no food or drink to buy. On top of that, officials and service people don't speak much English. Given the experience of my co-passengers today and those stuck in the terminal for the past few days, one has to wonder why the airline flies these sectors at all."

Multiple crying babies with toddlers running the isles all night with no parental control or Flight attendant(s) intervention, even after being asked by multiple passengers. Woooh... movie/IFE selection drastically cut back! why? Food, worst in 7yrs. Guangzhou layover, lounge(s) not prepared, minimal pre packaged snacks no hot food, showers not working or rather not cleaned from night before would take "hours" for them to be cleaned and available. Will probably be last flight with Southern China, has dropped considerably and is no longer a "worthy" airline."

So basically CAN is their hub and they should have certain privileges at CAN. But every time I went to CAN to take a China Southern airline I had to take a shuttle to board the flight. Even for a huge flight like 787 you still have to take the shuttle to board. Can't they request a gate for big air crafts like this? And then the food is really bad. If you don't have to land in CAN, I would consider flying to HKG instead with Cathay Pacific."

When the plane touched down in Beijing, it took over half an hour just to taxi to the gate. I have to run literally from the gate to the immigration and to TSA. I had also cut the line to get to the front so I don't missed the connecting flight. There were people screamed and yelled about our action (I Have 2 other couples under the same situation and don't want to miss their flight). But I finally made the security understand that we were told by Air China (with the red Air China round sticker) that we should cut the line to get to our plane. This is second time happened to me and Air China won't wait to close its gate when departure time arrives. I am not sure what will happen if I miss the connection. I stranded one night in Beijing with Continental couple years ago because of typhoon and was told the airline is not required to do anything for you because of weather related. But the connection issue needs to be addressed as I am sure some of my fellow passengers had missed their connecting flight yesterday. For now, I will stay away from Beijing connection ( ie no more Air China) until the latter makes some realistic adjustment to its connecting schedule. This is not difficult but they need to be aware and lessen stress to its customers. Beijing airport authority needs better facility with properly trained personnel to facilitate the transfer process. I had used Tokyo and Seoul with so much ease. Beijing needs to get up"

Cons: "The online service was not user friendly and slow. Our upgrade was said at departure it would be for the full flight and was Not. The staff would not speak English and refused to serve any drinks or snacks as I thought it would be normal. Our luggage was lost and did not arrive at our final destination til 2 days later. On the flight home we were told to wait till our transfer to upgrade and that was denied and said we needed to do it prior. I am beyond disappointed and will never fly with Air China again and the only recourse that was given was from the nice people in Japan that explained this happens all the time and provided a voucher for less than 100 US dollars. I will advise anyone in the future not to fly this airline and I would like this to be investigated."

My 5'6" wife barely had any room, never mind myself. On my flight back, I requested an emergency exit row seat (as I noticed on the flight over the emergency exit row was filled with old people and young couples with babies/ young children). And was informed it would cost $120 USD per flight per person. My jaw almost hit the floor. You mean to tell me that the emergency exit row - the row where in the case of an emergency you are supposed to physically be able to assist passengers - actually COSTS money to sit in? That is an absolute disgrace. You have to pay for the added responsibility to help in the case of an emergency? Of course, once I was on the flight the emergency exit row was filled with old people and babies. All of course perfectly capable of helping in the case of an emergency. I was, and still am furious. The gall to charge that much money and then give the responsibility to people unable to help? Meanwhile, an able-bodied couple in the 20s is denied and I am cramped in my less-than-acceptable-for-budget-airlines legroom. And the food. Putrid. Inedible. It was somehow overwhelmingly fragrant while far too bland. Its hard to imagine someone putting together that meal and feeling proud. The meals all screamed "I do not care about my customers." In fact, that is the overwhelming feeling I got from Air China. An airline that truly could not careless about their customers. I would not reccommend. Even if they are the cheapest by a far margin. Stay away. Do not go near. Air China is a terrible airline that should be avoided at all costs."
