Flights from British Columbia to Canada: the best tips from KAYAK users

Air Canada Jazz is a great option. We had a great flight.

If you are tall or heavy this is not the airline for you.

Vancouver airport is great, lots of places to fill water bottle and lots of comfy seating if you look around for it. Air Canada is wonderful and agents have always been pleasant and helpful. Due to the loss of my driver's license in the mail, I had only my Ontario Health card for ID and Air Canada agents were wonderful, not making an issue of it at all and also not making me feel awkward. Thank you!

I have been pleasantly surprised by Air Canada as of late. My last two trips have been with them. I appreciate the monitor still being in the seats so Im not messing around with an app that most often doesn't work. The flight crew was excellent and very helpful.
SarahFlew with Air CanadaYCD-YVRDec 2024
Nanaimo airport is awesome. So small and friendly. Easy to fill up your water bottle and have your snack sitting looking out the huge floor-to-ceiling windows. And, due to my peri-menopausal overheating, I actually appreciate the outside winter walk to board the plane.
Verified travelerFlew with Air CanadaYVR-YKAJan 2025
Taking the Skytrain into/out of YVR is useful. Coming in from the train there is a Security entry just to the right that is usually a shorter line and thus faster.
ShawnaFlew with Air CanadaYLW-YYZDec 2024
Was my first trip to Toronto, I would choose an aisle seat or window seat, not middle. Middle seat is best for a very small person.

Make sure your carry on will fit in the luggage compartment. Only 21 inches not standard 22

My favourite agency that I’ve flown in Canada with has been Porter, which is odd considering they are usually the “cheaper” airline. Domestic flights are really good with them though I wouldn’t commend their international flights. Air Canada was way too expensive and wasn’t nearly as comfortable nor did the price include l even the earphones on the flight so I definitely won’t be taking them again.
SuzanneFlew with Air CanadaYVR-YULOct 2024
If you’re going to connect international from Montreal it’s quite a distance between domestic arrival and the international gates, be prepared for that could be tight.
LynnFlew with Air CanadaYVR-YYZOct 2024
Consider booking on a newer plane or another airline.

If you can afford book a more expensive seat
RyanFlew with Air CanadaYVR-YKASep 2024
There is a train but Rocky Mountaineer is expensive. There’s also E-bus but we would have had to stay overnight. Westjet is much cheaper but flights are through Calgary taking over 4 hours to make it to Kamloops instead of the 50 minute flight with AC.
LeeAnnFlew with Air CanadaYLW-YYZSep 2024
I wish I had known that the air canada flight I was taking was so small inside that you can barely fit your carryon bag down the aisle. Also that there are some planes who's seats don't recline.

Boarding process was quite different from the ones I experienced when flying from Winnipeg. Vancouver is of course larger and handle more passengers, but is what causes confusion for the passengers. I found my baggage was directed to 2 different areas of baggage route because the bins were not kept together. This caused some concern for me and a return to the very busy check through area. I find travelling very stressful and I try to anticipate the rules and what is required of me. I wonderd why the two routines (in Winnipeg and Vancouver) were so different. In Winnipeg I didn't remove my metal buckled belt, but Vancouver I did. I scrambled to redress, find my two different bins amidst a very busy area.
Verified travelerFlew with WestJetYQQ-YVRJun 2024
There's only 2 options: WestJet and Canada Air. WestJet is full of hidden fees (to reserve a seat, to check a bag, etc ). their website is completely non-functional, and they cancel it delay flights all the time. It looks cheaper but don't be fooled. Fly Canada Air if you have a choice.

If there is a connecting flight to the US register with the MCP app or have Nexus. Only 2 US customs stations open for a lot of people to check. Everyone was running to their flights. We had 2 hours in between our flights and we got thru just in time to board.

Great for being a budget airline, Air Canada watch out
RobertFlew with WestJetYVR-YYJApr 2024
Short flights late in the evening can mean waiting for planes that have gotten later and later throughout the day. Short flights on a Sunday night means full planes of people heading home after a weekend away.
BrianFlew with Helijet IntlCXH-YWHFeb 2024
BC Ferries is cheapest option (walk-on is quite inexpensive) if you have the time. Harbour Air and Pacific Coastal Airlines (YVR South Terminal) often have great sales. Helijet, even on sale, will likely be most expensive. But, Helijet is harbour to harbour (like Harbour Air), and can fly in the dark and in somewhat bad weather (Harbour Air can only fly during daylight).

Air Canada does good job on this route. Strongly recommended.

Service was great from start to finish. Pleasant attendants, timely luggage to carousels.

This airline is never a disappointment. Always on time. Short haul from YLW to YYZ , best way to travel.

Boarding was fine, and flight was on time. During the flight however, you aren't even offered a drink of water. The carts never leave the galleys. All the attendants said the whole time is take your headphones off and buckle your seatbelt. For the price I wouldn't expect 5 star service, but maybe a drink would have been acceptable

Nothing needs to change as it is such a short flight.

The employees at the counter when we first arrived were very helpful and kind. The flight attendants were are very pleasant and helpful. I appreciated we departed on time.

My husband required a wheelchair to get to the airplane and the service he received was exemplary. Thank you.

Internet on both flights was sketchy. Thus in flight entertainment was non- existent on MN - Balrimote leg.

WestJet was able to re-book us to the next available flight at no charge when air traffic controller staffing shortage delayed our inbound flight

I am a tall woman and could not move my legs enough to reach down under the seat in front of me to retrieve anything I put down there. I sat in both aisle and window seats and felt extremely cramped. In the aisle seat, if the stewardess was heavy, it was impossible to pass, and she would knock my arm shoulder and thigh every time she went by. If I can avoid it, I will not be flying this airline again.

Get our, as a group, skis on time to their destination. Have more attendants checking people in. There was only one. The line was a block long :( . Also flight change with 5-hour delay

Lost my luggage. Filed a report and there is no response. Received a phone call from another airline that said they had the bag and they did not know what to do with it

They delayed flight because lack of staff then missed connection. Never flying with kayak or weather

Absolutely the worst airline I have ever taken. They lost my baggage and told me my bag tags had been cancelled. When my bags arrived days later I had to pick them up at 3:15 am. My return flight was delayed another 6 hours and they broke my bag. Westjet does nothing to try and make it a better customer experience and all the customers services representatives I spoke with were useless and incompetent. Never flying westjet again.

it's all good nothing you can do make better 😌

Flight was delayed due to mechanical issues to the point that I missed my connection and had to wait for 6 hrs in Calgary... thankfully I wasn't in a rush or that would have been annoying

Very good AC Rouge flight YYZ-TPA. Great crew, all went smoothly. Thank you!

Service is pretty good. Sandwiches have to be purchased but I’ve bought my own food. Seat was comfortable and various movies to chose from.

Very friendly staff. Good seats on a quick flight. Right on time.

Very nice Crew! Not much entertainment, but it was only a short flight, so it is okay for this flight.

Air Canada cancelled my flight without issuing a refund. I could not make this flight. Air Canada does not accept phone calls Aircanada.com is down.

Flight was cancelled. Had to wait around the airport for 5.5 hrs for later flight. Entertainment system was not working.

Service and crew very organised however the plan and seat seemed very dated and not enough space

One leg of the flight arrived late which necessitated a rebooking on the next leg. Although there were no major weather events in play, best choice offered was a 7 hour wait in the Vancouver airport for a 4 hour totally packed red eye flight to Ottawa. No opportunities to return earlier via other major hubs like Toronto or Montreal. Felt very much like national routes were no longer well supported. Adding insult to injury, entertainment system for my seat was out of order. Thought I might use wi-fi, but discovered it would cost $10 per hour! Paid a lot for the flight as it was over the holiday period. Probably won't be doing that again.

Plane was smooth. More of a YVR issue, but the gate at departure was JAM PACKED with people and departing flights. Literally standing room only around the gates... This should be staggered or spread out better. Other than that, the flight was fine.

The boarding staff was extremely rude and disrespectful to multiple passengers. I would advise to avoid Air Canada at Comox airport unless they take steps to improve their airport staff.

Leg room was terrible and seats very narrow. Flight was also delayed.

The worst airline experience that I ever had in my life. The fare was cheap but boy do you pay for it when it comes to baggages, carry-ons, food on board and lack of available staff at check-in. Almost every other passenger on my flight had the same complaints and experience. We all bonded discussing our displeasure. My husband and I will definitely not be traveling with Flair Airlines. We'll take anyone else.

The most uncomfortable plane I ever fly on. The seats won't even recline a little. For a 5 hrs flight at night and tired it felt like torture

Seats in 1 res are dispersed all over the plane, even child was across

Personally, I will not use this fight again. The service is poor, you have to buy even water. They don't provide anything even sneak, you have to buy. They said Personally items for 7 kg. Then they use some measurements, if you have 7kg and if it's not getting inside of their measurements, you have to pay 80$ this is robbery. I will prefer other flight then this. I am désappointement taking this airplane.

It’s a shameful company. It ask as to go to counter to take the boarding pass, they simply send it by email, just to check the bags’ size in a smaller than normal template. DONT USE FLAIR! It will be more expensive than normal airlines at the end.

flight was okay, no wifi, no free drinks but worst of all they lost my son's bike for four days. Customer service was nonexistent - call a number that leaves you on perpetual hold, there's no baggage folks in the baggage claims area (in vancouver). we went up to international and nobody was at ticketing, went to domestic and they had us fill out a form. they could not tell us where the bag was. Anyway, highly recommend you drop an airtag for anything that's worth more than $500. My son's bike costs a lot more than that to replace; I was on pins and needles for four days.

The crew of this flight, specially the flight attendant in the front were the sweetest I’ve had in all my life, I genuinely hope they get a race or sum cuz of their efforts. It was just quite unsettling that the flight took so long to departure. It was supposed to leave at 10:35pm and we ended up taking off at 11:22pm…👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

It’s bare bones but was on time so can’t complain.

Of all the countries I've flown to and airlines from around the world, I have never had such a dismissive an arrogant employee during boarding. After waiting in line for 20 minutes to board, I was sent to a second line for Passport verification. Natalie from Flair, repeatedly tried to scan my passport which didn't work for some reason but was too lazy to input my information manually. Bar code scanners aren't 100% reliable as we all know. She asked me my birthdate 3 times, made me wait to be the last person aboard and then smugly threatened me that my only bag could be charged for (same backpack I used as on my arrival as carry on). Natalie working in Ft. Lauderdale and the was the epitome of lobotomized tiktok brain with the charm of junk mail.
