Pros: I loved the spa, and the club level. The art--in the halls, and the rooms--was quite wonderful and unique in my experience. The food on the club level was excellent. And the spa is the best I've found amongst hotels, and in Chicago. Staff was quite helpful.
Cons: It is very expensive. I was amazed at how expensive the overnight parking would have been ($ 71), and chose to park for 1/3 of that in a garage next door.

Pros: Very nice. Excellent price for how luxurious it was. The room was unbelievable and the location was perfect. The parking was very easy, if you don't want to use the valet, there is a parking garage right next to the hotel.
Cons: I had called to confirm our check in was at 3pm, and I received an email stating that our check in was at 3pm. However, our room was not available until after 4pm. We had missed our dinner reservations because of this. And being that we paid alot to stay at this hotel, they did not offer any compensation for their error.

Cons: Room service food quality wasn’t great. The room was low occupancy for Covid but all of the travelers were placed clustered together, so it was quite loud and frankly felt crowded and unsafe. The bathroom, while gorgeous, is terrible for families as it blocks no sound or light.

Pros: Service staff never made me feel like I was a bother. I loved the spacious and newly remodeled room we stayed in. Beautiful bump out bay window with breathtaking views of the river and Lake Michigan. Bathroom had very high end finishes, and also included a television in the mirror!
Cons: The maintenance guy who tried to fix a broken bathroom light was using very profane language as he failed at repairing the light. However, this staff member's behavior scored us a free upgrade from city view - to river lake view - so it all worked out.

Pros: Our room was beautiful with a spectacular city view. Complete functioning kitchette which we did not take advantage of because we were only there one night but would have been great for a three day weekend stay. Staff was friendly and professional. We had a light fixture broken in our bathroom when we first arrived and they had it replaced and room service had cleaned the glass up in under 20 mins. Impressive for an operation this size. Within walking distance to many desired locations.

Pros: The staff was extremely helpful with everything from directions to meal preferences. The quality of atmosphere was also very good. The decor and views from the hotel were better than anywhere I've ever stayed.
Cons: The pool area was not on par with the essence or ambiance of the rest of the hotel, with the lack of hot tub areas and the extreme plainness of the pool area compared to the rest of the hotel.

Pros: The staff was friendly, the rooms were clean and in impeccable shape. The space provided was great (chamber suit). There were plenty of outlets..thoughtful situated. Very convenient to have the shower in a separate room from the toilet. The controls for the room temperature were within our command. Free cocktails every night from 7-8, amazing! And the location of the hotel was right near a bunch if restaurants, the Chicago institute of art and the Grant Park.

Pros: Brilliant, well thought out design elements made our chamber a pleasure to stay in. Separated dressing room/washroom allowed myself to get ready in the morning while my fiancé grabbed a few extra minutes of sleep in peace. Additionally the staff was very helpful, informative at check-in, and incredibly friendly. Also the Hosted Social Hour is an absolute must do!
Cons: There wasn't anything major to complain about here. My fiancé felt the complimentary toiletries could have been more femanine scented (or at least a tad more gender neutral) and our server at the dinner in the lobby was slow and forgot a third of our order (to her credit however, she recovered well when the mistake was pointed out).

Pros: My boyfriend and I decided to have a fancy night out and found a great deal for Virgin Hotels Chicago. It was for only one night but we wished it could have been a week! Everything was amazing. Check-in and check-out service was fast, easy, and staff were all so friendly and accommodating. Our room was gorgeous, most amazing bed we've ever slept on! Overall, Virgin Hotels had an amazing vibe to it, very hip and fancy. Absolutely recommend!!!

Pros: The rooms were nice, but our room had not been properly cleaned. There was an empty wine bottle in the trash, a stain on the carpet, and dirt on the bedspread. The location is great for exploring the city. A block from Michigan Ave, the beach, and Rush street.
Cons: The customer service was not good. We waited 30-45 minutes for our bags to be brought up to our room and finally had to go down to get them. There were two bellmen standing in the lobby doing nothing and our luggage was just sitting there. As mentioned the room was not properly cleaned which is never a good feeling when you are staying in a hotel. I requested a late check-out and was immediately told "No due to someone else staying in our room and they needed to clean it". He then asked what room we were staying in. He again said it wasn't possible as someone was staying in that room and they would need to clean it. When we checked out I forgot a brand new shirt I bought while staying there. I rarely hang things in the closet and had done so since it was a new shirt. I realized this the next day and called and again was given horrible customer service. They told me it was not in the room and that nobody stayed in that room the night before so they couldn't help me. Obviously, the maid who cleaned that room took it, but they accepted no responsibility for that. Not to mention they couldn't give us a late check-out due to another guest needing the room. It's a shame the customer service was so bad because it is a nice hotel in a great area of the city.

Pros: I liked the sofitel before because it had this amazing smell wafting through the entire building especially in the lobby that I loved so much my friend found out what they were using and turns out they were using a scent from a French perfumery which made the whole feeling even more glamorous than it was already. My friend ended up gifting me a candle from the very same perfumery that was the exact scent of the Sofitel Chicago location!

Pros: My son and I had a great stay at London House! It is located perfectly and is within walking distance or a short Uber ride of Navy Pier, Millenium Park, OTC. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and staff was friendly!
Cons: We tried to eat at the hotel restaurant to avoid going out in a storm. The restaurant is more of a bar setting and the menu is not family friendly. Needless to say we braved the storm, got soaked! Great memory! Lots of good places to eat around the hotel.

When we tried to get our bags, no one was there to talk to so we had to go to the front desk and they were going to send them up. We went upstairs with our digital key ready and it didn't work. We had to go back to the front desk, only to have the staff not believe us that it didn't work. They gave us a regular key and we went back upstairs. I had wanted to freshen up but the bags had not arrived. We waited about half an hour but ended up going back to the front desk to remind them to send the bags up. After that, the stay was fine until I was over charged for the room and had to call the hotel to get the correct charges.

Cons: The fact that this upgrade was right against an elevator on the 11th floor (1101). Throughout the stay, you could hear the elevator go up and down, the guest talking loud coming out and going into their hallways. But importantly for a Photographer, that giant TRUMP sign taking away from my cityscape photos. My suggestion would be to place any upgrades away from the main hall where the elevator is and to ask the guest questions such as, “Is this your anniversary or honeymoon “.

Pros: The rooftop bar is amazing...during the winter, however, the lounge is enclosed and not much to talk about. Our room had a gorgeous view of the river, the bed was comfortable, linens were great, and the big tv was like being in bed at a movie theatre. Pros: I loved the location of our hotel..just a couple blocks from beautiful Millenium park, right by the river, and a nice walk to the lake/navy pier, etc...The staff was so super helpful during our stay, very friendly when I had questions. I used the fitness center and I loved that there was so much equipment available! Quite a few people were using it as well when I went in for my workout, but there were still plenty of elipticals and treadmills available...and I was able to do my weight machines also. And it was very clean. A nice bonus was that we were able to leave our vehicle in the hotel's parking structure until 6pm the day we checked out, for no extra charge, and we were able to preload our vehicle. Justified my choice to park in the structure that I thought was quite a bit more initially...but parking would've ultimately cost me more if I had to leave the hotel and park somewhere else for the day. We had a very nice stay, and I will choose this hotel for hopefully a longer stay next time.

I asked twice for a sleeping mask and the first night they're were out said they'll get some in the next day. On the next day I asked again and they already have them out.?.? I feel they should have notated I requested one the first day and then have it ready the next. The bed linens leave something to be desired. They use a flat sheet for the bottom sheet which kept coming undone. The comforter wasn't big enough for the bed. It continuously kept falling off so in the middle of the night I had to get up and cover my wife back up. The room was for the most part clean. However I drop something and when I looked under the bed I saw individual skittles covered in dust :-/. And the restaurant... We tried to eat and drink there but the service was terrible. Took 20 mins to get menus and a water. I guess they're understaffed? But we left before ordering anything due to the service. The overal stay wasn't terrible. I would stay there again but I would never pay full price for it.

Cons: They need better security. I stayed in a four person dorm and one of the guys in the dorm brought his girlfriend over to sleep in his top bunk bed so there was five people in the room. Then they started having sex while I was getting ready to sleep. I quickly got up and left the room for like 20 mins hoping that when I got back they would be done but they were still going at it and in fact was getting louder, so loud I could hear them from outside the room. I got annoyed because it was like 11pm and I had to get up really early the next day so I just went in the room, got my bags and went down stairs and asked the front desk to switch rooms. They were really nice and quickly changed me to a different dorm. The rest of my stay was really nice.

Cons: The hotel room lacked basic amenities. There was no coat rack in the room. In the unpredictable Chicago weather, our weathered coats needed a place to dry. Housekeeping was stingy on towels, shampoo, and coffee. One tiny bottle of shampoo for a potential of 3 days worth of showers for a family will not cut it. They also did not replenish our coffee. When we asked for more coffee, they brought up 1 Keurig cup of coffee, 2 coffee cups, and 3 sugar and cream packages, which did not make any sense. Also be aware that they add $80 per night to your card for incidentals.

I know the hotel has little control over who we get for neighbors and likely would have moved us if we would have called to complain but neither one of us wanted to disturb the other by calling down to the front desk in the middle of the night. They did remove our urban fee which was a very nice gesture.

Pros: Location. A block away off the Magnificent Mile, North Side near the John Hancock building. The North Side of Chicago downtown is the nicer & safest part of downtown Chicago. Also has more restaurants and shopping centers within close walking proximity than the south part of downtown Chicago/or the loop. We were are from San Diego, CA, it was our first time visiting Chicago, we are definitely going back (much nicer & easier to get around than NY).
Cons: We will definitely stay in the North side of town again, but definitely never booking the Whitehall ever again & we are never prepaying for a hotel ever again, unless we have stayed there in the past & we already know what we are booking. Had we not prepaid for the hotel we would have checked out & booked another hotel. We Checked in at around 2pm Dec 26th for a 6 night stay. First room we got on 8th floor modern decor but was not as the one we expected from the pictures, it was a 3star room because the bathroom was big & definitely worthy of a 4star, but room was not. Even in the dim light we could see the walls & furniture were old, once we used our cell flash lights to see better in the room, the walls were scary. And there was a wall just 2 ft away from our window, so even in the day no natural light came in. we tried it for a few hrs but we felt like we were being enclosed & we had 7 days to go & we were there on our 10th yr wedd annv. So at around 7pm, we called front desk, Rebecca was super nice, we requested if we could get a room that was not facing a wall, just something that had a view to the outside world. We got mover to room on the 19th floor, bathroom was small, but room was bigger in size, but worse in décor & condition. Traditional décor, but not in a good way, even more older furniture and walls than first room, & bed frame & fixtures had a layered of dust, as if no one had cleaned it in 10yrs. And I found a woman's sweater and hair wig in the closet. Lets just say the only area I felt okay to get undressed was the bathroom as this was the only 4star worthy part of the room.The only reason why we stayed in this new room is because the room was a corner room away from the main hallway, which seemed a lot safer, being that this hotel did not seem safe at all & the hallways & elevator are super narrow & small & seem taken out of an episode from the "Twilight Zone". Hallway walls are old & musky, elevator even had tagging, I never stay at a hotel that's less than 3stars, never had seen this type of condition in any of the hotels I have stayed. And in past 10yrs we have vacation 2-3 times a yr. Not sure how they have manage to keep a 4star rating. The only 4star worthy of this hotel is the bathrooms in rooms, hotel restaurant, & hotel staff. Rebecca gave us a nice letter and vouchers (we only used the breakfast voucher) to apologize for the hair wig & sweater, but the damage was more than done. We had a hard time even being in our hotel room, before our trip we had originally planned to spend more time relaxing in hotel, but definitely we ended up trying to be out of our hotel as much as possible. If they had 4star rooms elsewhere in the hotel, then we did not stay in one, which again does not make this a 4star hotel because a 4star hotel should have all rooms in 4star condition starting from their smallest deluxe rooms all the way up to their suites. Unacceptable, if anything they are a 2 1/2 to 3star hotel.

Cons: We got to the Whitehall around 6:30PM on Friday night, to find one of the automatic doors to enter was not working correctly. Next up: one of the elevators (of only 2 tiny elevators) was broken down. Everything had a luster of the past, but needed updating, cleaning, replacing, etc. In our room, the carpet was stained and one of our sheets had a hole in it. To add insult to injury, of the 2 phones in the bedroom, one didn't work at all, and the other only worked if you pressed 0. (ie, none of the corresponding keys to concierge etc worked). The shower faucet where you adjust the temperature was also broken - as it was loose and hard to finagle into getting a temperature that didn't scald or freeze you. And maybe the worst of all? We had gone out for brunch on Saturday, and come back, said we didn't want to be disturbed, but then, while we were napping, someone CAME INTO OUR ROOM without knocking to check our minibar!!! What?! Who does this!?!? This hotel is 2 star-worthy, not 4. They need to SERIOUSLY up their game or deal with reality. Also - we were charged for 2 items (a granola bar and candy bar) that we didn't even take. The lady said "sometimes touching something in the minibar triggers these prices). I said "that would make sense if either thing were even *in* the minibar!" So, there you go. That's the truth of the place. Judge for yourself.

The first day we got to the Hotel, there was a rat walking in the middle the lobby. At first we were kind of disappointment but things happen. what we didn't like that it took about 20 mins until staff actually did something about. The hotel has strong dirty smell in the lobby, and bad one in the hallways, like if they never clean the carpet. While the hotel its old, it is not a excuses to have walls scratch , parts missing and lack of customer service. The rooms were okay, barely clean and outdated a/c unit. Hopefully on day they notice they losing thousand of dollars because if this hotel were to rebuilt, it would a GOLDEN mine for tourist.

We took the subway/trains (or walked) everywhere and bought the 3 day pass, cheaper that way than taxi rides everywhere. Very close to Buckingham Fountain and Millennium Park, and Michigan Ave. Lots of places to eat near by. The hotel also has a decent Thai restaurant attached to it. Every major attraction is not more than 5 miles from the hotel. The staff is very friendly and helpful in finding what you're looking for! They also provide a luggage storage service for you, free of charge! This was helpful for us as our flight arrived at 7:30 am and check-in wasn't until 3 pm! Same service available upon checking-out.
Cons: The musty smell. Our room was on the 9th floor, near the elevators, the hallway smelled terrible as did the room. Our shower was not cleaned, it had dirt/sand sitting in the tub and along the back ledge where the water spout is. The A/C was off when we entered our room causing it to be very warm and musty (we went at the end of July, so it was hot outside). There was no hair-dryer, however, I called the front desk and they brought me one. No counter space in the bathrooms, in fact, we had something fall into the toilet off the tiny shelf in there. There was hair all over the sheets. The beds and pillows were very uncomfortable. No breakfast, pool, refrigerator, or other amenities. The trains were noisy, being right outside the windows of the hotel, however, I think the sound on the 9th floor was not was bad as it could have been on lower levels. I also sleep with earplugs, so it was not that bad for me, my husband did, however, complain a bit about the noise. Honestly, I don't think this hotel is worth more than $60/70 per night. The location is all it has going for it!

Then the steam radiator heat wasn't turned on until 10pm. My room was about 60°F when the pipe-knocking finally began. The restaurant downstairs was overwhelmed in the morning since only two people were working - though the food was pretty good. I waited 20 minutes to order at the counter and another 20 minutes at the table until my pancakes were finished. 15 minutes later I was finished. Parking is not included and my plans kept me in downtown until 3:30. So I put my things back into my car at the garage across the street after breakfast. When I collected my car it had been parked there for 23.5 hours, yet I paid $15 dollars extra for a second night as I was ready to leave after 2pm. Still cheaper than another night in a hotel plus I was home in about 4 hours anyway.

Pros: If you're planning to go to Chicago and be out and about- this hotel is perfect! 100 ft off Michigan Ave, a 2 minute walk from busses/trains and a maximum of 15 minute ride to almost any of the major attractions. The front desk staff and concierge staff were very helpful and kind- offered suggestions of how to make the most efficient use of time to see the most we could during our short stay. Though there were no "luxury amenities" (we werent expecting any!) our room was clean and bright with a comfortable bed, immaculate bathroom (good water pressure and no shortage of hot water! ) and great view of city life. The elevators ran quickly and were clean. The spotless and updated lobby connects to a great breakfast/lunch cafe and also to a Thai restaurant that looked like it had a bar (which was of no use to me traveling solo with a child).
Cons: The only thing that wasn't great was the carpet in our room needed some attention-but it seems like they are upgrading/updating lots around the hotel so I assume this is on the list (everything can't be done in a day!) . I've noticed many people commenting on the cosmetics of Travelodge DT Chicago and in general, the main areas seem all done. The cosmetics of the hall on our floor were quite dated, but since I wasn't planning on hanging out in the hallway, this did not bug me one bit.

Pros: This is a comparatively affordable hotel and a good value for short, busy-schedule business trips. If you don't need the extra amenities and if you want a convenient, clean, no-fuss "place to stay" it's a good find. It is also close to the downtown Universities, making it easier for the moving in (or out) of your college student(s).
Cons: Although there are many food choices within a few blocks, it would be nice if there was a breakfast choice, that was open early, in the building.

Pros: It's was close to everything so I could explore during my layover and get some .rest. It was good for the price. But I would stay there again.
Cons: It is next to a loud people mover. Also when they redid the hotel they took to many short cuts peeling paint exposed pipes no breakfast

Cons: when we arrived at the hotel they gave us a room that you couldn.t call it a room. the window was broken, it was fixed with paper and scotch and the wind blow through it. when i complained they said it was the room i had booked, and i told them that i never could have booked a room in such conditions. after arguing a little while they changed us to another room on the same floor that was ok. with no extra charge.

Cons: The rooms were way too small and there is absolutely NO room in the bathroom to move. Not to mention the room is dirty and doesn't even contain an Iron for your clothes. PLUS this hotel has 3 elevators and only 1 was functional! I was staying on the 6th floor and waited 15 minutes for the elevator which still didn't come so I had to walk down 6 flights of stairs carrying all of my luggage and the staff could care less about anything you have to say. I will NEVER stay here again.

Pros: Location and price we're excellent. It was walking distance to soldier Field, and most other attractions downtown. It was old and decor was very dated but it was very clean and bed was comfortable.
Cons: The only complaint I'd have is that the old radiator was very "clanky" and loud when starting up. It woke me up more then a few times throughout the night.

Pros: The hotel is situated right in the heart of downtown close to bars, restaurants and college campuses. From its location your just a $10 cab ride to all the major attractions of Chicago.
Cons: Rooms aren't spectacular and don't come with microwaves or fridges but they are clean and the beds were above average for the price. The top floors aren't as renovated as the lower levels so are room had a window AC which blocked the view (wasn't a good view anyways) and was extremely loud but that helped drown out the noise from the street during the morning hours.

Pros: Excellent location, walkable to food and all the major tourist sites. Very friendly staff. May be able to find a deal at some of the other historic hotels around, but a solid bet if you are visiting to be in the city instead of your room.
Cons: Pretty basic room, not much in the way of luxury. I thought the mattress was a little stiff, and you can hear the L from outside, neither of which were significant enough to keep me from considering here again next time in Chicago.

Cons: When I arrived person at reception desk told me that my reservation was cancelled though in fact it was not. Customer Service was very helpful to locate my reservation. I just do not understand why hotel staff could not see it.

Cons: Beds were small uncomfortable cheep pillows and sheets. Staff at front desk was rude and not welcoming. Very loud Banging noise on the pipes around midnight. View from Windows was an abandoned building. Only gave us one coffee cup and no water cups.

Pros: The room was a good size-a bit plain, but comfortable. The entry/exit to Grant Park for the Chicago Marathon was directly across the street. You couldn't put this building in a better place. Great location.

Pros: I really like that is was close to everything. Everything was with walking distance, train, stores, buses, etc. The room was clean and well kept.
Cons: The room was a little bit hit due to the heater. Try to turn it off but it did not work. Opening the window a bit did the trick.
