COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Visitors from Canada must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) test taken 48 hours before departing to Sweden.


Unvaccinated travelers are recommended to get tested as soon as possible after arriving in Sweden, and then again 5 days after their arrival. Travelers should self-isolate while waiting for their test and test results.

The recommendation applies to children in the preschool class and older, but not to younger children.

The testing recommendation does not apply to fully vaccinated travelers.

Quarantine requirements

Visitors from Canada are not required to quarantine after entering Sweden.

Travelers are recommended to self-quarantine on arrival in Sweden for at least 7 days and undergo testing for COVID-19.

COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Travelers returning from Sweden must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) test taken 72 hours before departure to Canada.


Children under the age of 5 are exempt from presenting a COVID-19 test, other exemptions includes, a crew member or a person who seeks to enter Canada only to become such a crew member, emergency service providers, technical stops – flights refueling.

Travelers are required to take a COVID-19 test on arrival in Canada at their own expense. Travelers are also required to take another COVID-19 molecular test on day 8 of their 14-day quarantine. They will receive a COVID-19 test kit and instructions before leaving the airport/border. Those who refuse will receive a $750 fine.

Quarantine requirements

Visitors returning from Sweden will need to quarantine for 14 days upon entering Canada.

Travelers are subject to a 14-day mandatory quarantine, this includes a mandatory 3 night pre-paid booking at a government-authorized hotel, at their own expense (approximately 2,000 CAD) and take a COVID-19 molecular test on arrival at their own cost.

Towards the end the quarantine period, travelers will be required to take another COVID-19 test. they will be required to stay in their place of quarantine until they receive a negative test result.

Certain persons are exempt from the mandatory quarantine requirement when entering Canada for the purposes of performing an essential job or function as identified in the Order under the Quarantine Act. Exemption will be validated for each entry into Canada.
